I'm still on a macaron quest. Last Tuesday, I did a search on DoorDash and found out that Yoglo Yogurt Fruit Mix sold macarons. Nice!
A box had six assorted French macarons. It was $12 a box, which seemed cheaper than most places. I ended up getting two, so that my friend and I could enjoy them at work.
I placed my order and headed over to this store. It's located in a plaza on the southeast corner of Brimley and Sheppard Avenue East. I didn't know where it was, so I parked at the back and walked around.
It's a weird mall-plaza setup. I'd say that roughly three pathways were blocked off for construction, so it was trying to figure out how to best find unit 1. You'd think that unit 1 would be on the left when you face the plaza. Nope, it's on the right, tucked away in an alley, across from the food court.
The good thing about trying to find this store is that I have walked the entire place. There are a handful of stores in the mall area. Most are outside that comprise the plaza.
I was thrilled that I found this store. I walked in. It's not the coziest place. There's one chair to sit down. It really isn't meant to be a store to get fruit, a drink, or macarons, and sit there to savour them. It's one path to get to the counter and then leave.
The woman started talking to me in Mandarin, which is a language that I don't speak. I ended up speaking to her in English and showing my DoorDash order. She had it ready and handed it over with the most secure knot on a plastic bag that I have ever seen. I thanked her and left the store, walking through the maze to get to my car.
There is lots of parking. Sure, you may need to park in the back like I did, but I felt safe. My car was fine.
I brought the macarons to work the following day. My friend and I had three each before and after lunch.
These macarons are smaller in size. I like that this store specializes in fruit and desserts. It was all fruit filling between the macaron shells. It was different and I liked it.
The macarons were placed on top of Fruit Loops. This place likes to be different and I welcome it! I felt like I needed milk. However, the cereal absorbed some of the moisture from the macarons and they were softer. It was perfect for my friend who has braces.
Each box had these flavours:
- Pistachio
- Creme brulee
- Dulce de leche
- Chocolate
- Red velvet
- Chocolate mandarin
The problem was trying to distinguish what the two different shades of brown macarons were. The same was the case with the pinkish macarons.
I like that my friend and I chose a macaron colour, had a bite, and looked at each other guessing what we were having. It was a lot of fun.
These macarons were excellent. They had a crunchy, soft macaron shells. The flavours were yummy and sometimes complex. They weren't sweet, which was a bonus.
We liked the creme brulee one the best out of them. It tasted like the dessert, but without the sugar rush. We enjoyed the citrusy chocolate mandarin. The pistachio was also awesome.
This store sells a lot of fruit products, from cubed fresh fruit, to fruit smoothies. As the name indicates, you can get yogurt-based bowls and drinks.
This store also has dessert knockoffs. It makes chocolate cupcakes that look like Hostess ones. It also had Flakie-like pastries.
I had a great experience with the macarons. I am a fan of fruit, so I'll come back for more. The location is a bit weird, though. At least I know where it is now.
