This is a very busy by-the-ounce self-service frozen yogurt shop on bustling State Street. One of the things I love about the new frozen yogurt trend is that the shops tend to have a very clean feel, and that is what is lacking at this particular Yogurtland. Surfaces went un-wiped for too long and everything felt slightly sticky. The entire shop had an unpleasantly strong smell that my husband identified as some type of a bleachy cleaning solution. It was 2 pm on a weekend which in my opinion is a bad time to break out the institutional smelling cleaners. Toppings looked a little "touched on" which is a huge no-no in self-service yogurt. Uck. I don't want gummy bears that look like they've been manhandled. That said, the taste was fine. Between our group we tried maybe 5-6 different flavors and all were great, though maybe a little sweet. Yuuuum! My fiancé and I stopped in the other night while visiting Santa Barbra. We went all out and got delicious frozen yogurt! They had hand sanatizer next to the cup station which I loved! The service was friendly and the place was clean! Overall I had a great experience! read more

Used my BOGO coupon. I hadn't been in before because I figured their products were full of sugar and crap, despite their advertising that states "Real ingredients make great flavors". After buying my yogurt, still $8.65 with coupon, and tasting it, my earlier statement was right. I went home and looked their ingredients up on their website. Their ingredients are maltodextrin (a hygroscopic spray-dried powder) with double the glycemic index of sugar. Next ingredient is Sorbital (sugar) then polydextrose(sugar), dextrose ( more sugar). You can't find a small cup in the place, so you'll buy more. Another business to fatten up America.... Moooo! read more

Futuristic looking venue. There are 10 or more flavors to choose from. Two have the tanginess that I crave. I made the mistake of putting too many flavors in one cup and the flavors were mushed up. Tons of toppings to choose from. I chose fresh banana slices, strawberries, chocolate syrup and walnuts. It does not get much better than Yogurtland if you are a frozen yogurt aficionado. read more

Just came back from the new Yogurtland on State St. Ooooooooh man. The taro yogurt is sooooooooooooo good. There are a lot of different flavors, a lot of different toppings, and it is way cheaper than Pinkberry. My decently sized cup of yogurt ran me $2.75 and I think I may have to run back for more pretty soon. read more

Features sort of in order of awesomeness 1. Cheap! You pay 30 cents an ounce so you only pay for what you want to eat. 2. Relating to point 1, no more compromising with your friends on flavors and topping to save money 3. Buffet style purchasing -- allows you to create a near infinite combination of flavors and toppings each time 4. Selection is huge! In addition to traditional toppings like strawberries and mochi and flavors like mango and plain tart, they also have fun and tasty toppings like blueberries and frosted animal crackers (no skimping here) and yogurt choices like taro and pistachio. (Stay away from tiramisu and cheesecake though. they taste like vomit.) 5. Decor is a nice middle ground between the hole in the wall feel of Rockin' Yogurt (across the street) and the upscale club/spa feel of Pinkberry 6. They have a bathroom! 7. They give you free self-serve water! With strawberries floating in it! 8. Seemingly unlimited samples! (without the awkwardness of having to ask. just reuse the little cups they give you) 9. Cool biodegradable neon-colored spoons (I'm using them in my packed lunches from now on) 10. Ethical -- they deduct the weight of the cups when calculating the price, something that they clearly don't have to do but which is totally awesome for cheapskates like me. Why? Because you don't have to buy more in order to absorb the a flat rate. 11. Cleverness -- they make you use big cups so you are fooled into getting more frozen yogurt and spending more. While this would be a point against them, it weeds out the weak and so I approve. 12. It's called Yogurtland which is descriptive of what the product is. (what the hell is a pinkberry??) I am definitely a fan of the yogurt here and the ambiance. I give it 4/5 because if you look at the nutrition facts that must be asked for you will see the yogurt is very high in sugar and calories. Yogurtland is pretty awesome. The fact that you can walk in and there's a variety of yogurt flavors to choose from is just the beginning. the place is in need of a redesign - even the smallest amount of people in here made it a bit of a mayhemfest. serve yourself froyo and toppings, then pay $0.30 an ounce as you are pushing past the hordes of others trying to do the same. but if you were patient enough to deal with the 12 year olds sampling every flavor, it was worth it. and just skip the toppings - the froyo alone is satisfying enough. read more

What I wouldn't give for some froyo now... They have such a good selection and its self serve so you can make up whatever crazy mix you feel like. It's pay by weight so the first time is dangerous but after that you get the hang of how much you want vs how much you want to pay. They have every topping you could imagine and the fruit is pretty fresh. The sorbet flavours in particular are just amazing-- especially with yoghurt chips and M&Ms. YUM. You have to try and control yourself though, because it can be kind of overwhelming if you put everything you want-- you have decide what combinations will actually be the best, rather than just listening to your stomach. You can also take a little tasting cup so you can be sure what flavours you want, which I think is a great idea. There's almost always a line but it moves pretty quickly. It's also open late, which led to many post-dinner cravings and legging it down to State Street. read more

I'm not totally sure what I think of this place. I've been a few times, however I've never really been wowed. I agree with everyone else, the flavors are a tad artificial tasting. The peanut butter and tart flavors aren't bad though. Plus, since it's all self serve and your yogurt's weight determines the cost it is substantially cheaper than Pinkberry etc. I have yet to find an amazing fro-yo place in Santa Barbara. Alas... I used to go to Rockin' Yogurt practically daily and felt so bad for them when Pinkberry opened up the street and Yogurtland opened ACROSS the street. Nobody can compete with self-serve yogurt. It is soooo much cheaper than anywhere else in town AND they have way more toppings. And so many cool flavors. Coconut was my favorite. I tried the Yuzu, pretty good. Red velvet was amazing, too. I'd usually fill the cup pretty full of yogurt and toppings that usually made no sense, and start going 'oh god this is going to be so expensive' and then it'd only be about $3. NICE. That's a small at most places. And at the place in Isla Vista I always end up getting myself charged like 8 or 9 (oops). Thank you Yogurtland! read more

I love yogurtland and am always a big fan of this franchise. However, i came into this yogurtland and it was full of people but the people in the front were kinda rude. I understand that you can't taste test all samples in one cup, but if you only give 1 cup to the customer, how can we try the other one. and if we do ask for another cup, its like forbidden and they get a-wol. ANyways, the yogurrt is good, the consistency is different. i do like the plain, not too creamy and its tarty. it tastes just like plain tart. i also like the red velvet , dutch chooclate and coffee. those are my favorite flavors. i noticed they have popping tapiocas, interesting..they should bring coconut and lychee jellys too! They were so good! Stopped there once a week or more for years then it seems they got new Managment. That's when things changed. First, they seemed to reduce the sweetness. It's a desert! It's supposed to be sweet. They have plain if you don't want sugar, and some of them were plenty sweet without extra sweetener. Now it seems they have decreased the flavoring additives. The most standout aspect of Yogurtland was its vibrant, robust flavors. No more. There was good reason for strong flavors. Frozen yogurt can freeze your taste buds making stronger flavors almost necessary. Sad. Don't fix what isn't broken. read more

This little ice cream place lives in a little pocket of food businesses housed in shipping containers. Very creamy, not atrociously sweet.

I love this place. Good thing it's not too close to my house. I often skip meals and go straight to Yogurtland. A buffet of yummy frozen yogurt, ranging from Mango, Pistachio to NY cheesecake, peanut butter, taro and pumpkin pie. The toppings bar rocks!
