Spotted this why browsing yelp looking for a quick bite on our visit to Portland. I love me some musubi so we had to check it out. We parked across the street and walked over. The shop is a bit small but what really matter is the food right? We got a few different musubi and an onigiri. We were kind of bummed that they didn't have any hot sauce, they offered a spicy mayo but charging $2 so we passed on it. The employee was very kind and was patient with us while we made our selections. As for food it wa tasty and hit the spot but not the best for the value. San Diego has better musubi for better prices. But give it try and decide for yourself. read more

The store is small, really just a quick in and out kind of place. It has a small amount of nearby parking and is also easy to walk to from the local area. Quick, easy, and delicious! If you're looking for something on the go, this is the place. One thing I miss in Hawaii is being able to grab a musubi from any gas station. It's the easiest snack to munch on when you have to be on the go. Now I just make it myself. But there are days where I just want to purchase them. Every place I have been to would sell these little bricks of yumminess for $6 with more rice than spam and the thinnest slice of spam ever No thanks. This place is affordable and the musubi has the perfect rice to spam ratio. It's all about the ratio. The onigiri is also the perfect rice to protein ratio. This place is great! Although small, it's very charming. The service was friendly and because everything is pre-made, ordering food was super easy and there was practically no wait. Also, it's worth noting that parking is scarce so plan accordingly. Food recommendations: * Teri-Spam: Can't go wrong with this classic! * Wasabi Tuna Onigiri: My wife got this one and I had a bite. It was really good and it wasn't as spicy as I thought it was going to be. If you get the regular Tuna Onigiri, you'll like this one because it adds the perfect amount of "spice". * Ume Onigiri: This is the star of the show! Super easy to order online and pick up! I found parking around the corner and walked over and my order was ready! I ordered the spam musubi, wasabi tuna onigiri, salmon onigiri and the butter mochi. Everything was so delicoous, this was my second time here! The shop is small so there's no seating, perfect for a midday snack. I appreciated how she warned me about the step! This is a good place to get a light lunch or snack. I love musubis and they have a ton of options. I got the basic spam musubi with teriyaki sauce and it was good but I have had better at hawaiin restaraunts. The salted salmon onigiri tasted kind of liked smoked salmon. It was a bit rice heavy though and the rice was cold which I didn't like. I would go for the musubis in the hot case if you get something from here opposed to the cold case items. Each musubi is around 4.50$ and I spent about 9$ here. I did like that they had some other treats like banana bread and butter mochi. Another thing to note is that there is no seating here it's more of a takeout spot. Overall this place is good but not amazing and I don't see myself going back unless I am in the area already. read more

This is a cute little shop and the staff are very nice. While I did like the onigiri here, it is too expensive for me to be able to justify it. Spam musubi and onigiri are simple to make and mostly rice and nori, so I would rather just have it at home at that point. I may be biased because back in Japan such a thing would be less than a dollar per piece, but here it is around $5... It's by no means bad, but the value is not great, so I wouldn't come back. If you aren't able to make musubi yourself at home, this shop does a fine job. read more

A small, cozy spot serving fresh musubis and onigiris. Seems to be a popular spot in the area. The guy helping us was very energetic and nice! We tried the Miso Tofu Musubi and the Spicy Tuna Onigiris. Both came out warm. The Tofu had a nice texture and a subtle miso flavor. Meanwhile the Tuna was slightly salty but that balanced out the rice very well. Great to stop by for a quick lunch or stock up for a picnic. They also got sweet treats and drinks as well. read more

Wonderfully friendly service from as soon as I walked in the door and thoughtful until the very end. I saw a sign for Musubi as I was driving by and wondered if it would it be that easy to pick up a quick meal before a flight. And yes, yes it was! They had several versions of Musubi to choose from. My partner and I stopped by on Saturday around 11am. There was no line. Items appeared well-stocked. The store is tiny with a sign on the door limiting to one party at a time which I appreciated for such a small space. The girl working was very friendly and welcoming. There really isn't much parking to speak of, but the small lot next to the space had one "5 minute parking" spot that we were able to snag. The hot case items were nice and warm. My favorite was the teriyaki spam with pickled daikon; a great choice if you like the flavors of kimbap. My partner liked the teriyaki spam. The Portuguese sausage & egg was not my favorite, but is nostalgic/classic for Polynesian foods. The cool/more room temp tuna items were pretty good, but we overall preferred the hot items. They do have select packaged snacks & a fridge full of cool drinks. I'd be happy to stop in again for a quick breakfast/snack on the go. read more

Despite being not much roomier than a walk-in closet, Yokai Musubi packs a kaiju-sized flavor punch well above it's weight class! Pick your poison from the rotating list of musubi, onigiri, mochi or cheesecake, grab an iced coffee or tea (green or milk) from the adjacent cold case, pay at the kiosk, and move on out: there's no room, or tables, for dining inside! Everything is ready to grab-and-go at a moment's notice, and each item is carb-loaded enough to satisfy even the most monstrous hunger! Grab two, or three...they're so cheap! You can't go wrong with any of them, but our personal favorites on our first visit were the spam & egg, and the miso tofu, but I highly recommend tacking on a side or two of their spicy mayo, which boasts far more kick than the kind you'll encounter at your favorite sushi joint. And after seeing their weekend-only offerings, I guarantee I will be back to try their kimchi, spicy tuna and hot dog musubi, faster than you can say "isogu"! Itadakimasu! read more

Small, quaint shop that is located right on the busy street of Burnside. Due to the size of the store, only one party group is allowed in at a time. Be sure to watch your step once entering inside. There is a step you have to step down/up. I can say they aren't the worst Spam Musubi I've had. Though they definitely are not the greatest either. I felt the flavors lacked a bit and the ratio of the spam to rice could be better. The Azuki Taiyaki was decent. It wasn't overly sweet. It was very soft. However I like it more on the crisper side. POG slushy was delicious as expected. Pass on the lime flavor. It was too artificial and had to be diluted. The Pandan Butter Mochi had great flavors of pandan and a touch of coconut flakes on top. Nice chewy texture. Would I return? Unlikely. read more

The inside is small but it don't matter because those musubis are to go lol they got quite a variety of musubis to choose from. The musubis are really delicious but the slice of spam is half the size of a usual musubi! I was really shocked it was a very thin layer of spam. We spotted it the first time as we headed to the plant shop next door, made note of it, and then forgot about it until we were in the area again. It was during the afternoon, and we were craving a light snack, so musubis it was! The shop itself is small, and it is clearly a better option to take out - so we did just that. The musubis were fine - nothing super astonishing, but they did exactly what I hoped they would -they served up a tasty morsel that enabled me to keep my day going. Best musubi; beats all the musubi I've eaten on all the Hawaiian islands (that's cases of spam, too many sacks of rice, and crates of eggs folks). The rice was cooked perfectly and served as fluffy (not some sticky amalgamation) where each grain worked to support tender sliced spam with not too sweet teriyaki style sauce. Simple and allowed the few ingredients I work in harmony to satisfy the taste buds! The tuna mayo onigiri was good too but I wish the tuna had a bit more mayo and tuna given the price too. The musubi and onigiri definitely are good but given the price I wish for what I wrote above lol. These would make a good snack on your way to the rose garden or Japanese garden though - it's a quick drive! No public bathroom in case you need to know. The shop is small so make sure you read the sign - one customer/party of customer at a time. You can wait outside for your turn if you see someone in there already, or join the line. Ran in here right at closing, tried one of teriyaki spam, hotdog, spam and egg, and special curry rice spam and special curry rice tofu from the hot case. Wow, loved all the hot items, super fresh and still warm. The clear winner was the curry rice...so much so that we ran back in at closing to buy more! I LOVE spam musubi. Any time I see a store dedicated to musubi, I will make a beeline to it. I've had my fair share of spam musubi in Hawaii, so I was a bit disappointed with what I got at Yokai. Standard Spam Musubi: this was just mediocre. It was just spam and rice. Usually there's a savory/sweet sauce in between, so we were a bit disappointed. Ume Onigiri: Be aware that this is pretty tart. While I enjoyed it, I couldn't eat too much because it ended up being a bit too tart for me to finish. read more

Saw a TikTok about Yokai and wanted to try. Arrived around 11am on a Friday to an empty space. Everything looked premade so we were in and out pretty quick with no tables to sit at. Ordered the SPAM, Teri-SPAM, SPAM and Egg, Kimchi, Salted Salmon and Spicy Tuna. The spam to rice ratio in the musubi is off with too much rice. The instructions for unwrapping the oniguri was a little hard to follow. Nothing stood out, wouldn't go out of my way for it again. read more

Dropped by Yokai Musubi around noon on a weekday and was able to grab the two items I'd had my eyes on -- the ume and the green onion tofu! Woohoo~ The items are super fairly priced for what you get and are great as a snack, in between meal nibble, or a full on meal, esp if you want to try a variety of things. I appreciated that the green onion tofu musubi was warm while the ume was chilled. Scarfed the tofu one down sooo quickly and it was delicious! Good amount of salt and flavor on the tofu to balance the nice chunk of rice and nori. The ume was a great as a light little snack and honestly would be my go to breakfast item. Parking is street parking but there are plenty of places to park nearby. Shouldn't be too hard! The only downside was not having a ton of vegetarian options but the ones that are available are delicious. Service was super nice and I'll definitely be dropping by here again~ read more
