Yokozuna is a good place to hang out, grab a drink and have sushi. My wife and I like to go there with friends for happy hour. Their cocktail menu is good and the bartenders are knowledgeable. Our favorite appetizer is the steam bun with pork belly. It usually great but sometimes the pork belly is overcooked and ends up being too dry. The sushi rolls are okay but not always as fresh as we would like it to be. It's often hit and miss as far as quality of the food. Sometimes it deserves 3 stars and sometimes 4. We will have to try other kitchen items beside sushi next time. read more

Didn't go for the Sushi We don't really care for it anyway. Their online menu includes some good looking appetizers, soups, salads and entrees. That's what got us in the door. The inside of the restaurant is bright with an attractive modern décor. Overall the food (what we had and the descriptions of the food on the menu) impressed me as a trendy, Asian fusion, sushi restaurant. The service was average. We had the Thai Green Curry, General Tso's Chicken and started the meal with an order of Roasted Pork Crispy Spring rolls. The Thai Green Curry had a mild curry / coconut milk flavor and with variety of vegetables, including fresh slices of mild Fresno peppers. The General Tso's Chicken was very different than what is typically served in a Chinese restaurant with the chicken being heavily breaded and smothered in a syrupy spicy sauce. This was more of a chicken, vegetable, rice stir fry with a spicy chili sauce. It too had the Fresno pepper slices and the plenty of Thai dried hot chili peppers. They had the fire in them, but if you don't eat them this is a very mild dish. The very best part of the meal was the Roasted Pork Crispy Spring Rolls. By far the best spring rolls we have ever had. I will admit that this place is a bit "trendy" and overpriced. I've been to several "basic" sushi places that are delicious and you don't have to pay for all of the fancy rolls. But with that being said, Yoko has good sushi. They have fun & different rolls. I've been to this location several times, and as a southsider I prefer this location. I have had a variety of the rolls, the gyoza, sweet potato fries, cauliflower, Jorge's nachos (not what you would think of when you see "nachos" but really good - see pic), rice, pad thai, general's chicken, and ramen bowls, and various other dishes. I like that the general's chicken is not breaded. That was a pleasant surprise. The Chicken Chili Ramen kind of lacks flavor, I would not get again. The Pork Belly Ramen has better flavor and is good but kind of greasy. My understanding is that they are changing the menu soon too. Check back! read more

Finally made it to the new South location about 2 weeks ago. It's located in the corner of a decent sized strip mall at 91st and Yale (Whole Foods, Smashburger, Upper Crust, a kitchen supply store, a few other restaurants, etc) with plenty of parking. I will mention though that the day we went there was a huge thunderstorm and the parking lot got pretty flooded. Not Yokozuna's fault of course, just a side note. :) This location is bigger than the downtown location, which is nice. There are some regular tables, booths, banquet seating, sushi bar, and an indoor balcony. There are 2 walls of windows, so the lighting inside is great. The bathroom is modeled off of the downtown location, but it seemed smaller. The tile in there needs a good scrubbing, it already looks worn and gross. It would be less of an issue if the bathroom wasn't right next to the kitchen entrance.....am I the only one bothered by that? Speaking of, as I exited the bathroom I was almost run over by a waiter exiting the kitchen. Strange layout for that area, but oh well. On to the food! Ordered the same rolls we always order at the other location. The quality and presentation is the same so that's a plus. I had just had my wisdom teeth taken out the previous week so it took me awhile to eat my rolls. I had to cut up a few of them b/c I couldn't open my mouth very wide - hubby had to go track down a fork for me since our waitress went missing. There are some traditional food options like fried rice and typical sushi rolls, but there are far more interesting options like a blackened ahi tuna burger, the Meesh Mash, a thai peanut sushi roll, and very elaborate salads. There are also many fun cocktails you can order as well as refreshing non-alcoholic options, like unsweetened peach jasmine tea. It was a cold day, so I was hankering for some ramen. It is REALLY good here! The broth has that deep pork flavor, the soy egg had that perfect translucent yolk. Mushroom and nori were delicious. The noodles were good and bouncy. I highly recommended with one caution: if you are a chili head like me and order the chili bomb extra, don't just dump the entire thing in. Now, not to be braggy, but I've travelled to India, China, and other asIan countries and have astounded many locals with me ability and love for spice. So a couple of weeks ago I wrote a really scathing review of this place. The manager contacted me and said, "Give is a chance to make it right". First of all major kudos to anyone who runs a business and has the stones to say "sorry for the mistake, give me an opportunity to fix it". If more businesses were ran like that it would change our society. This time the service was impeccable. The atmosphere was much more relaxed and infinitely more enjoyable. I ordered a veggie roll, and a spicy roll, then server brought me a chefs special roll. The veggie roll, and the chefs special were spectacular. I love their sake options. I tried a sake that tasted like it was brewed in cedar chips. It was very unique, earthy, and delicious. I also tried a sparkling sake; it was also delicious. All in all it was a great experience. I have been to Yokozuna location downtown several times so I knew to expect good service and high quality sushi before even going into the southside location. The place is always packed and on a wait on weekend nights so we ended up sitting at the sushi bar when we came here. There was a good view of the chefs making sushi, our own server (not like a bartender server where it is most places when you sit at the bar), and plenty of space to have a comfortable meal and be able to talk without being on top of our neighbors. Service was great too. There were a lot of good cocktails and beer on the menu, but we opted for a pear sake. The sake was delicious and paired well with the sushi and the cucumber salad brought out as a complimentary appetizer. We went family style and shared the following: Sashimi combo Spicy tuna roll Geisha's demise roll Caterpillar roll The caterpillar roll is still my favorite because I really like eel and avocado plus the eel sauce they serve on it is absolutely divine. I always try to get at least one roll that I've never tried before and this time it was the Geisha's demise which comes with sweet evil sauce. The roll was delicious! The sauce my be a little too spicy for my personal tastes, but a little dab was just enough to keep things interesting. The people sitting next to us got the pub roll and it looked awesome. My wife and I go to Yokozuna every-other Friday night. We always have a different service each time and last night was nothing different. We had a different server last night, her name is Rachel. If you've been or thinking about going definitely ask for her to be your waitress. Last night was her first time being a waitress and it was by far the best service we have ever had. She is a great people person and is on top of anything we asked for. Yokozuna needs to hang onto Rachel and don't let her go anywhere. She is a great asset to your business. Unfortunately I've always had an issue in the past with the slow service almost every visit, which made me nervous attempting to take a child for the first time. But this visit the service was great and our food came out quickly! And they even have a children's menu, I had no idea! I highly recommend the sweet potato fries appetizer! Fries alone are always great, but when coated in tempura batter, they are amazing! Makes my mouth water thinking about them! We decided to order the children's chicken strips and fried rice. The chicken was your typical fried chicken strips, but the fried rice was delicious! For our sushi we ordered the Rising Sun, Route 66, and Nutty Thai Professor! I would definitely order them all again. The Nutty Thai is great if you love spice, there is sriracha sauce on top and jalapeño inside! If looking for sushi in Tulsa, I would definitely recommend either Yokozuna location! My favorite sushi place by far!!! Outstanding service! Very hip and trendy! Decor is divine! Bar seating is just as fabulous as table sitting! You won't leave here hungry! $50 bill, filled up on sushi for 2, had a large sake and beer! Well worth the money! Not overpriced! The rolls are large (but not to large where you need to take bites), the appetizers are mmmm mmmm good! Try the cauliflower! I have ate here many times, even with my brother from California who approved highly of this place and he has had some of the best in San Diego! Highly worth the wait if they are busy! Kids menu is great!! For those kiddos not into sushi! Son enjoyed the chicken with a side of white rice! Note: it can get pretty loud so come early if you need to avoid too much noise or bring noise canceling headphones for sensory kiddos.
