Boyfriend and I would come to Grandma Sally's often, and this just doesn't compare. The menu is honestly pretty small, and quite pricey. The portion sizes aren't arguable, but they could be better. I had one of the skillets, wasn't a fan of the undercooked seasoned potatoes. Also, the eggs were watery... The bacon and pancakes were good! Nice selection of bread too. The specialty drinks are not worth it--they practically give you kids sized mason jars to drink out of. The matcha was honestly terrible and they don't have regular sugar. The service was good, though! If you decide to check them out, you can join the waitlist online the day of. It was busy when I went and there wasn't any parking. During covid, we weren't eating at restaurants, even outdoor restaurants and Yolk by far had the best quality of food for delivery. Everything was packaged correctly and so that the food was in the best shape when it got to our door. The food itself is delicious - the scrambles, benedicts all very tasty. Was curious to check this out post revamp from Grandma Sally's. Definitely fair to say that the foundation is the same, with everything just a notch up. Good choices on the menu, I really appreciate that they have milk alternatives (oat!) and am excited to work my way through the specialty coffee offerings. I got pancakes with chocolate chips and strawberries, and for the first time out of anywhere I've ordered this at, they put strawberries in the pancakes! Definitely unexpected, you'd think this would make the pancakes really soggy but it didn't (not great for reheating, though). Fun for a change, and with extra ingredients both in and on the pancakes you definitely can't complain about getting less than you paid for. Servers were friendly and overall it was a positive experience. They seem to really have to-go orders down, which isn't something you'd necessarily expect for a breakfast place. read more

We used to love stopping by Yolk in Lakeview when we were in the city, and I'm so happy that Yolk is so close to us now! We have only gotten takeout since they opened, but every single time, my eggs benedict is still perfectly warm when I arrive home, the yolks still gooey and delicious. My kids' love this restaurant too, and they love the pancakes, scrambled eggs, and bacon. The sausage gravy is so yummy. I have no complaints! The menu prices are a little higher than some restaurants in the area, but you cannot beat the flavors from here. read more

I'd been wanting to try this place for awhile now but was seriously disappointed. I had a turkey burger, my partner had a turkey Reuben. The fries were served without salt and overly golden in color. My burger was a premade patty and no condiments were provided with it - lettuce, tomato, and a pickle slice on the side, but no sauce, cheese, onion or the like. The server was nice enough but one of the bussers walked directly in front of my partner as we left without so much as an apology or "excuse me." The walls are plain and bare and the decor is reminiscent of an elementary school cafeteria. Absolutely nothing on the menu was original to the cafe. I was looking forward to going to Yolk, but I got the feeling that the hostess was not looking forward to me coming to Yolk. 10 am on a Friday, several booths and tables were open. I told them that I was meeting a friend, but she wasn't here yet. I asked for a booth for two, however policy is all party members must be present. Ok, I get it, but can you at least fake concern or empathy while you're saying it? When my friend arrived, we were seated and given a crumpled menu, how many customers has this thing seen! First visit and I ordered the loaded potato pancakes. Not what I expected - very crispy on the outside, but creamy like mashed potatoes inside. Truly was loaded! Delicious. My only downside was the teeny tiny glasses for the cold beverages like oj and milk. Water was also served in these glasses but they left carafe on the table. This place is maybe 20 min away from me. Took over an hour to get here. I don't know if the driver took to long to get there or how busy they were but everything was lukewarm and had to be reheated. Coffees were warm which made them meh. The Pb latte didn't taste anything like pb and didn't come with whipped cream or reeses pieces..which I suppose wouldn't have mattered since it would've been melted by the time it got here. Salted caramel tasted like too sweet coffee creamer. My son enjoyed his cinnamon roll french toast. I got the South of Border benny which I guess would've been better if I hadn't had to microwave it leaving me with a soggy english muffin. Way too much chorizo..it's all I could taste. And the grease from it soaked the muffin too much. Maybe serve with some avocado with it. Using Doordash is a crapshoot..you never know how many deliveries they make on the way to you. My wife and friend's have been to the Yolk downtown and we enjoyed it there. When I learned they were opening one in our neighborhood, I was happy to hear it. Going through the menu, I wanted replace a simple thing that I could not eat due to a dietary restriction. I explained to the waitress what my limitations were. While I was explaining, my wife noticed the waitress rolling her eyes. Rather than help with a suggestion or check to see if I could change something for an equivalent value (even if there's an up charge) I was pretty much told tough luck. For a place that charges close to $20 for an omelette, you would hope for better service and accommodations. Although I can't say much for the food at this location as we canceled our orders and left, the experience was enough for me to look for other breakfast places in the area. read more

Went here for Mother's Day! Put my name on online waiting list. Had to check in by 853am. Got there at like 840am. Place was not busy at all when I got there. 2 people were trying to pay for their orders. The gentleman that worked there was clueless. The hostess comes up and says how many people in your party? I respond and say 5. I'm checking in from the online waiting list. She says ok one moment. Comes back and says sorry our system is down. I say ok what does that mean. She says sorry we are now closed. No one else will be seated inside or at all. This all happened within 5 mins. There were like 15 people behind me and everyone just walked out. I know things happen and systems go down. But you don't tell customers we are closed. She could have said our system is down we don't know how long it will be before we can seat anyone down or we are working on getting the system back up. Just poor, poor, customer service! Context- after tragically losing two close family members, I attended this restaurant with my mother & sister as a first attempt to get out of the house. The hostess was great and we were seated right away, and the experience began positively. I regret that I cannot remember the name of the waiter because he truly was the downfall of the entire outing. After ordering, we waited 35+ minutes for our food, and when we asked the waiter when we could expect our meal he said it would be awhile due to our "meal modifications" (I asked for extra bacon, other guest asked for no sausage). In the meantime, we watched on as two other tables who were seated after we were got their food. Once the food finally arrived, the waiter spilled my sister's glass of water all over her & her phone that was on the table. After this moment, I asked the waiter if we could speak with the manager to which he answered by raising his voice and shouting "He's over there!". Once finally in contact with the manager, he only agreed to comp the meal after witnessing the waiter continue to yell at the three of us at the table. Let me say that we all have bad days, but on this day (probably my worst) the employees & management at Yolk Oak Park River Forest sadly only added confusion and disrespect. It is my sincere hope that the gentleman who served us so poorly is either fired or trained properly so this new establishment can build good rapport. read more
