I have stopped by this nice shop a couple of times this past month since I always see it on my way home. The best fruit and vegetables with a price that is lower than those in the supermarket. Was able to get everything I was looking for and even found some nice snacks in the aisles as well. A variety of produce. Dried fruit and nuts that are pre-packaged-- wish it was bulk rather than packaged. Sometimes you don't want that many. .. I was surprised to find this little market has a middle eastern influence. You don't think to find Persian Ice Cream at Yolo Fruit Stand.. but, they have some (along with Gunther's). Finally came here after driving by on I-80 all the time. There is a large enough parking lot and the produce looks great! I haven't tried anything besides their dried fruits but they're at an okay price. I purchased the golden raisins, ginger, cantaloupe, and mango; It came out to be around $20. Not bad but at the same time it was worth it for the quality. There are a lot of other products here and it is cheaper than Safeway, but definitely not cheaper than places like KP market or ranch 99. I found a box of mangoes (6 ct.) for $2.50 whereas here is $1/mango. For those who don't want to make a drive check this place out! read more

For my 400th review, a review on a place I wanted to visit for years yet didn't stop because it was inconvenient; well, today was a day that was convenient. Stopping here was an exciting part of my day; I was thrilled to finally come here. Filled with joy, I park and rocket into the front of this place. The signage of this place was awesome; however, I realized when I walked into the place, the building was old. The tables were covered with a grand selection of produce that I normally buy. Sorting through these, I came to a conclusion that the items in the front weren't fresh (Fruit Flies/Soggy Onions). So I walk in and notice more produce (Yay I said in my head). Nope, yet disappointed again. They weren't that fresh except for some items. Maybe I was expecting more than farmers market fresh or maybe close to it. All in all, the produce found here are as fresh as the produce I can find at winco and food co. Expect the same or less. On another note, this place does have a grand selection of dehydrated items like mangoes, kiwis, corn nuts, the list goes on. There is about 4-5 isles of items that you can find. There's are some items that you don't see normally here so take a gander. I picked up some Yolo Fruitstand Corn nuts. Dehydrate Corn Nuts [Lemon Chile]: 3.5/10 Corn nuts +Sugar + Sulfur Dioxide + Spices When I tried this, the bag seemed almost stale. I was too far to return this bag; so sad. The flavor was great but the texture was difficult to swallow. Overall, I was disappointed. The prices here were a little more than Food Co stores and the selection of freshness ranged from flies to fresh. Its pretty difficult to like this place in my opinion. Despite their perfect location, I've seen this place go downhill over the years. One can now find more healthful goods (organic, more fresh, etc.) at Safeway. The final straw came yesterday when I bought something to drink, and a minute later asked an employee where I could put the bottle for recycling. She proudly stated that they recycle *absolutely nothing,* and then told me that such concerns are not part of her job description. When I asked her if she has talked to the boss about keeping so many things out of the waste stream, she became quite hostile. I try to buy my produce and misc items from the produce market at least twice a month. I love the produce markets because you get fresh, local produce, that is organic AND is so reasonably priced sometimes I think i'm stealing...LOL... HOWEVER, this produce market is not the best or close to it. There is not that big of selection of fruits and veggies and what they do have is not fresh. I relunctantly stopped here because my normal produce market (Pedrick Produce-which is just a few miles up the road) was closed for Easter. I bought just a few items to get me through the week, the cuties were almost all rotten sitting on the shelf and the strawberries I bought were full of mold 1 day after I bought them. I will NOT be going back. I would rather shop at Safeway, pay more but know that my fruit and veggies are fresh! I should have just waited until Monday when Pedrick produce was open. read more

This has been my go to stop when going home to Reno for years. All of their produce is picked ripe (not weeks before it is ready), the prices are extremely fair, and it is right off of the freeway for easy access. They have other interesting foods (jams, honey, dried fruit, chocolate covered goods, etc.) Just an example of some of their prices: Yellow Onions - $0.59/lb. Green Bell Peppers - $1.99/lb (Not like everywhere else where they are $1.99 or more per pepper) A flat of amazing looking & tasting strawberries for $9.99 Avocados - 5 ripe ones for 5 bucks Make it a point to drop by, stretch your legs, and find some of the best produce. I've driven past the Yolo Fruit Stand approximately 367 times in my life but never bothered to stop. This past weekend we finally pulled off the road to let the dogs out for a bathroom break and to grab a snack. Holy sweet salty nuts, Batman - the bag of candied mix nuts that I picked up was the perfect thing to help me get my mind off the Friday evening Tahoe traffic. Take the time to get off the road-- it is easy off, easy on-- regardless if you are driving west or east. Used to stop here ONLY to get dried apricots-- NOT the "full turkish sweetened" ones but the half apricots that are actually dried, not preserved with sugar (they have the turkish ones as well). As time went on and I drove less... my car sat in my garage, the battery ran down...and I needed to charge the battery. I didn't want to drive on the freeway for 20-40 min for no reason... SO I started to drive from downtown Sacramento to YOLO Fruit market to get my veggies/fruit once a month. (yes, they stay fresh-- I use the one's that don't first, It's all about planning and storage options) Veg prices are good or better than Smart and Final/Food Source, much less than Safeway/Raley's (unless a "sale") -- AND unless you are buying out of season. Be smart-- use what is in season and therefore less expensive... like everyone had to do in the '50's and '60's before you could get out of season fruits/Veg from around the world at your whim, for a price. Decrease your carbon foot-print...buy local, use public transport... and drive your car to only charge the battery. Yes, I love farmer's markets...but too difficult to find parking (Sac. Sunday/Downtown Sq. madness/Davis (4th&C) deal with masses of people ...PLUS my need has to meet their limited hours, etc. Too trendy for me. This is the second best thing. Easy-peasy. Open 7 day/week, 8a-6p (or 7p-seasonal- longer in Fall/Summer/Spring). I always look for balance in my life... I agree with other reviews-- the dried fruit and nuts and speciality items are on the high side of cost-- your choice is not to buy them, I don't...but their mushrooms per lb. can't be beat. Other reviews about their veg/fruit not lasting? My perspective is that they didn't know how to choose. You KNOW (by feel, touch, look, smell) when something is about to "turn bad" unless you've never bought food or are clueless-- then DON'T buy, wait. Vegetable's and fruit have a propensity to rot. Who knew? You, the buyer, should know therefore beware buyer, caveat emptor. If you didn't have a parent or grandparent that taught you how to choose fresh, good, sweet vegetables and fruit... then teach yourself, ONLINE (I do). I thought I knew it all at 22 about fruits and veg...YET everyday I learn more and I'm 60. read more

I always make a 10 mile round trip trek to Yolo Fruit Stand. The fruits and vegetables are fresh and at a good price! I always love whenever the cherries, grapes, kiwis, and apricots are $.99/lb. Fruit don't come at that price at Safeway. Tomatoes are always at a good price under $1/lb. I love getting their fresh corn since they are really sweet! If you need a pumpkin for Halloween, this is definitely a place to go get one! They have white and orange pumpkins, and even "pumpkin pie" pumpkins. Go visit the store since it's so lonely being out in the middle of nowhere. Btw, you can only use credit cards for transactions over $5. read more

Open year-round, CHEAP, and local produce. I have lived in Sac for over four years now, and finally stopped by the fruit stand on a trip back from the Davis Explorit Center. My youngest was asleep and my oldest was eager to be helpful, so I let my older one run around and grab all the fruit. The place was VERY family-friendly, and small but well laid out. I could see/hear my kid from the front door, no matter where she was. $20 bucks bought me an ARMLOAD of produce, and it was all delicious. I most especially appreciated that it was a very comfortable environment, and that the two people I saw working were smiling and accommodating. I stopped here before to buy pistachios which ended up being staIe ughhh. So about month later I figured heck I'd give them another chance no biggie, wrong!! So I came in off the freeway to buy a pop and some pistachios. At this time I really had too use the restroom bad lol so i asked politely if they had a restroom avail seemed harmless, wrong again!! I was immediately approached and told customers only and that I need to buy something first. Fascinating place. I wouldn't come here for the produce. Don't get me wrong the produce is fine, not exceptional, but good with an interesting selection; today I got purple cauliflower. Come here for the market! A blend of Middle Eastern, Mexican and American all twisted into one. They have Middle Eastern spices I have never heard of. I picked up a container of dried ground limes. I don't know exactly how I am going to use it but I will try it out. They have a wall of flavored syrups and rose water. Not sure if you use it in drinks or what but I am going to find out. You want nuts they have nuts: flavored nuts, ground nuts, all varieties. They had bags of fried veggies with sea salt: purple taro, green beans, sweet potato, etc. My husband was getting mad at me because I was going down every aisle, when we had just gone in to get a cold beverage. Next time my trip will be better planned. When I checked out I must have hit a magic number because they said "oh, you get your choice of a 5 lb bag of russet potatoes or a bag of kiwi". Humm, I have never been given a "prize" at the end of a grocery check out; I selected the potatoes. read more

I took a road trip yesterday afternoon!! I gassed up and washed my car, grabbed my favorite tea at Starbuck and set my GPS for Yolo FruitStand!! I have to say that was one of my most fruitful road trips to date!! I grabbed some broccoli, brussel sprouts, cantaloupe, corn on the cob, apples, pistachios, pineapple and strawberries!! We have tried some of every bit of our harvest and I have to say everything is/was delicious. I stopped by there on May 25th. I was looking for cherries and strawberries. All they had were around 10 baskets of each and they looked old and bruised. I looked around and there was lettuce that was brown on the ends and wilted into the front side of the refrigerator case. Just general poor quality all over the place. Tomatoes looked good but I put them back when I found wine bottles on the shelf with mildew-stained labels. I live in Davis where everything is overpriced. Whenever I get the chance I stop by at this fruit stand for my produce. They are always significantly cheaper and I like that all the produce is from local farms. They also have cheap Roma tomatoes (99 cent a pound compared to 2.49 per lb at Safeway), Persian cucumbers (I can't find these in davis), peaches, cherries, strawberries, nectarines, cheap spices, $1 avocados. I've noticed that my produce sometimes gets bad quickly but I've started refrigerating better and it lasts that way. If you're passing by here definitely get your groceries from here (especially if you live in Davis). Bonus - they have German kinder sweets and Persian food items. read more

A great, clean little market located directly off Highway 80E right before you hit the outskirts of Sacramento. The little store is packed full of local and fresh produce. The place is clean and well-lit and staff are friendly. Inventory is everything from Russian cookies and cakes, Ritter and Lindt chocolates, boxes of Turkish Delight, handmade tortillas, nutella, jams and preserves (even quince preserves!), packages of crumpets, flatbread, honey, crackers, mustards, cheese (no meat here that I can see), to a broad selection of beautiful produce (including fresh fava beans and orange cauliflower!) and a huge selection of dried fruits and nuts. My favorite are the "Honey Orange Almonds" flavored with vanilla and orange oil. They also have wasabi peas, chocolate peanuts, chili lemon mango, and all sorts of other combinations. But best of all: 1 lb. Honey Orange Almonds ($5.49) 1 bunch green onions 6 lemons 1 bag of peeled garlic 1 bunch italian parsley 1 bunch fresh basil 2 yellow nectarines 1 red onion 1 pkg green beans _______________ $13.47 If only this place was closer to where I lived. I stopped here today after realizing that I didn't have enough time to make it to the Farmer's Market in Davis. What a treat! Everything from produce to chocolate here seemed much more affordable than what you find in the grocery store. Furthermore, tons of quirky ethnic foods, locally produced snacks, fresh salsa and guacamole, honey, jam, dried fruit, homemade tortillas and pitas... (pant, pant) I was going buckwild on them goodies. I left with plenty of produce, plus cinnamon honey roasted almonds and banana chips for my snacking pleasure at work this week. I first tasted homemade creamy saffron ice cream at Formoli's (Sacramento, CA). They now serve homemade saffron pistachio ice cream. A month ago, a Sacramento News & Review article mentioned YFS had other flavors. Stopped in today to find creamy saffron, saffron pistachio, and faloodeh (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faloodeh). The last one is a rose water sorbet with rice noodles of vermicelli thinkness! It sounded so wild, I had to get a quart for $6. The idea of a permanent fruit stand selling produce and snacks from local farmers is great. We live in the Central Valley, why should we be forced to wait for the weekly farmers market like the city slickers? Selection (naturally) varies by season but I've found it significantly broader than most of the local grocery stores and supermarkets. You'll find a lot of produce to choose from. The prices aren't bad either. However, I do have to echo what a lot of others have pointed out - the quality and freshness is often iffy. Way too often, the produce has clearly been there for a few days and is at or near overripe and probably shouldn't even be available for sale. Breadth and volume kind of make up for it, but if you're not a person who is good at picking fruits and vegetables, it would be valuable to study up or bring a friend who knows what to look for when picking produce. There is also an expansive selection of dried fruits, dried veggies, nuts, flavored nuts, snacks and trail mixes. These are on the pricier side and while I've generally found these pretty good - dried mangoes, wasabi peas, and roasted almonds in particular, the cracker covered peanuts were absolutely awful. Staff here is always very friendly. The parking lot is very loose gravel, so take care not to drive like an idiot. The Fruit Stand is a fine place to stop by when you're in the area, just to see what they have in stock and the good prices, but with the often iffy quality of the produce available, I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to make a visit. read more

The first time I came here was a Saturday and, as expected, the place was packed. But 1:45 on a Thursday? That's a testament to incredible variety and crazy-ass low prices. 5 heads of garlic for a buck. Giant eggplant for a buck. Generous sacks of dried local apricots and pears for 4 bucks. Almost-ripened plums, peaches and bananas begging for one night on your kitchen counter before you devour them. Also snagged a big container of peanut brittle...3 bucks! How can you go wrong here? If you're a garlic lover, you can buy it in bulk, peeled by the bag on the cheap. Save the garlic by either double bagging and freezing, or putting some olive oil and a couple cloves of garlic in an ice cube tray and freeze. read more

Dropped by here out of curiosity and it's quite a good find but the produce is definitely hit or miss, especially the tomatoes. Some days they're overly ripe and borderline rotting and you'd think the place were a fruit fly store based on the numbers swarming around. You can find produce here at great prices that rival or are at par with Asian grocery stores. Since those are way out of my way, this is the next best thing. Avocados and garlic are always a steal here at $2.99 for 4 and $1 for 4, respectively. Ditto with the tomatoes though they're more fresh in the large pre-packed bags. Parsley, cilantro, beans, mushrooms, green onions, and broccoli are all good bets here but the lettuce and cabbage leaves more to be desired...Not so fresh. Wilting. Minimum card charge of $5 for credit and debit. A great place to hit up prior to going to a regular grocery store because you can definitely save. The pricing here is what keeps me coming and this place afloat. read more

Wow. Just wow. This place is amazing. Not your usual "fruit stand." This place is a full blown market with the freshest produce I've seen outside a Nugget or Whole Foods. Definitely worth driving across the causeway. I randomly stopped on an easy on easy off I-80. Walked away with $13 dollars of produce. The sweet, personable Greek owner rang me up & my jaw dropped at how reasonable the price was. Cantaloupe, eggplants, tomatoes, strawberries, zucchini, mushrooms, nectarines, cherries. So my therapist said i should take my addictive nature and do something good with it...so watch out yelp! i went here a few weekends ago when my best friend was graduating from Davis and her sister introduced me to it the first day and i couldn't help but go back everyday for the remainder of the trip...its located in the middle of nowhere but convenient since its right off the highway Their fruit freezers are the best! especially in the hot Davis weather... i would recommend the lemon for something sour and the grape for something sweet. The yogurt drinks are also great, they are soo refreshing and filling. They had fresh produce and a great selection of sweet and salty snacks... The last day we went there they were about to close and allowed us to stay there and enjoy our fruit freezers in their outdoor seating section until we were ready to leave... great place, I'm happy i found it! read more
