I have been waiting for an Asian bakery in town and I'm glad I gave Yoon's bakery a try! Their egg custard is really good and sort of different than the usual egg custards I've had in the past, which is a nice surprise. Our family have also ordered their cakes which have been pretty delicious. I only wish that they had a larger selection and their bakery can be pricey compared to other Asian bakeries that I've been to in Sterling Heights, Chicago, and LA area so I don't go that often but it's still a nice treat to have once in a while. read more

This place is amazing! Some of my favorite items are the red bean buns, custard buns, and egg salad buns. It always amazes me how they can make such soft bread that still has a nice bite. During the summer they have shaved milk fruit bowls which are so good. First time having anything like that, and I'm very impressed how simple but delicious it is. Moving here from a big city I assumed I would be giving up my korean pastries/bread. I left behind a Tous Les Jours and a coming-soon Paris Baguette and figured I would need to visit Chicago or the east coast to have anything close to Korean cream cakes.. I am so glad to say I was wrong! This place is small and nowhere near as flashy or fancy - but the quality of cakes, pastries, creams - are truly incredible. Their cream cake is soft, moist, not too sweet and the cream is perfectly airy and delicious. So very much worth the cost!! The egg tarts are some of the best I've had - a perfectly soft flavorful custard center that isn't clumpy or chewy with a crisp shell.. Yoon's Bakery is absolutely amazing. We tried the red bean paste with cream, castella, apricot crumb twist, and choco-choco. The red bean paste with cream is a MUST TRY, but all of them were crazy good. The prices are also unmatched - I think I paid $7-ish dollars for the 4 pastries. I went around 10 AM on Saturday and they were fully stocked. I've also visited on a Saturday evening and there weren't as many options. I think their website says they bake between 5 AM - Noon so I definitely recommend going some time in the morning for the freshest pastries and most options. Once you try it you'll wish you tried more! Definitely going back next weekend to try more items. read more

I tried their egg tart and their custard soboro. The egg tart is expensive for what I'm used to but it was really good. I only wanted to try it after reading reviews but wasn't sure because of the price but I'm glad I did. The crust was different than other egg tarts I've tried but it was crispy and I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. The egg custard itself is more subtle than a cantonese egg tart but it complemented the crust well. I will likely get it again when I happen to be in the area and don't mind splurging on an egg tart. Thr custard soboro was a bit underwhelming for me since this is what I was excited for. I was hoping for it to be a little more crunchier but the custard was really good. Yoon is a pretty standard Asian bakery, with fluffy and delicate lightly sweetened pastries. It's set up like most Asian bakeries - you grab a tray and a pair of tongs when you enter, put wax paper on the tray, and then select the individually wrapped pastries you want before going up to the counter to pay. I was slightly bothered by the fact that you're supposed to just put your tray back into the pile when you're done, even if you eat in the store (i.e. the trays aren't cleaned in between). Yes, the prices are higher than at many other Asian bakeries, but the costs in Ann Arbor are also higher and Yoon is much smaller than Paris Baguette etc, so it seems to make sense. I tried a few of their pastries and thought they were good albeit pretty standard; I haven't tried their sliced bread, but I've heard that the texture isn't exactly fluffy. The variety isn't huge, but I think it's pretty good for the size of the operation - there are cream and custard filled buns, croquettes, milk bread, savory buns like sausage buns, egg tarts, and Asian style layer cakes (and probably others that I can't recall at the moment). Note that there's a $10 credit card minimum, which isn't hard to meet because their pastries feel so light. Red bean cream bun ($2.69) - fluffy bun filled with whipped cream and red bean paste, typical but yummy Choco soboro ($2.29) - chocolate custard filling and a peanut streusel topping, dusted with powdered sugar Special bread ($3.29) - I thought this was interesting. The bread is about 10" long, and it's two very thin flatbreads, one filled with red bean and the other with green pea, with cream in between. It's very snackable and very easy to accidentally eat a lot of When I went the service was extremely kind, even though the staff members didn't speak English very well. They offered me some free samples when I checked out, and when I went back to take a photo (embarrassingly) they offered me even more. What a little gem. Stopped in and got some cinnamon and sugar donuts. Tried some other delicacies. It's definitely geared toward Korean tastes with red bean paste pastries, pork & mayo pastries, which I don't quite understand. Some other treats as well like a vegetable croquette. They are eager to help but no one speaks English so go in with a sense of fun adventure. What I did try was delicious. Everything had a very soft crumb and you can tell the oil the donuts were fried in was fresh. It's a really great place to try something done well and something different. read more

I lived in Tokyo for 3 years, and very much miss Japanese treats like red bean paste pastries. Yoon's Bakery is the most authentic such pastries in Michigan! My husband works in Novi, where the largest Japanese community in Michigan lives. He has purchased bakery items at places in Novi like One World market, and nothing he has ever found is near the quality of Yoon's. The pastries are diverse - from Japanese and Korean style baked goods to Parisian style chocolate buns. My daughter said her chocolate bun was like a buttery chocolate croissant. I had a red bean paste with cream bun, and it melted in my mouth. YUM. A few cautions: I brought my young kids in with me, and it's not the best place for little ones. The pastries are at their grabbing level, and I could tell the shop keeper wasn't excited when my daughter reached out to touch something. Everything is individually wrapped, but of course the shop does not want little ones grabbing the delicacies. I will leave the kids home next time. Also, bring cash if you plan to just buy a few treats. No credit card purchases are allowed for purchases under $10. I will absolutely be back (without my kiddos)! I have not been to an Asian bakery this good since I was in Toronto with my friend who took me to all the hole in the wall Chinese bakeries. I got both savory and sweet things and EVERY pastry I got here was freaking amazing! My roommate almost cried with joy eating the custard-pon I brought them. The ONLY downside is that the prices are more expensive than I'm used to. To be fair, in Grand Rapids, there's 0 Asian bakeries and I think in Ann Arbor the next nearest one is in Novi, but in Toronto, I certainly never paid 2-4$ per pastry; I think my friend's mom would eviscerate me for paying 2$ for an egg custard. So you may have some sticker shock if you're used to cheaper Asian bakeries, but the quality of products is definitely up there. read more

If you have ever been to a Paris Baguette, think of Yoon's Bakery as a smaller but similarly delicious Asian Bakery. Unlike Chinatown bakeries with $1 or less pastries, Yoon's Bakery offers a variety of savory and sweet pastries ranging between $2-$6. If going just for a snack, definitely bring cash as they have a $10 credit card minimum (but they do accept Apple Pay!). I tried their versions of the classic red bean and white bean buns ($2 each). They were generously filled and they tasted very fresh. The white bean is very sweet and the red bean is moderate. I also bought a Medium Cream cake (~$29) and was not disappointed with the moistness and sweetness of the cake. The owners even offered to replace the top fruit decorations with fresh ones! I'm excited to see how much Yoon's Bakery will grow as they hire more staff and expand their menu (I can't wait to try their drinks!). For those who have never been to a Paris Baguette, the prices might take some getting used to - but overall, a very friendly family-run bakery that is blessing Ann Arbor with delicious Asian influenced pastries! read more

I have no problem with their pastries but the lady with short hair there was soooooo rude today. Till now I still don't know why she treated me like that. I come to the bakery pretty often and know they have a rule of max 4 ppl in store, which is good. This afternoon, I came in just to get a slice of cheese cake. I went straight to the counter and said 'Hi'. No response. Then I said 'can I get a slice of cheesecake?' No response. I thought she was dealing with some paperwork behind the counter, so I stepped to the side with the registry and waited to pay. The lady finally spoke to me that they serve a max of 4 and I was the last one to get into the store, and started staring at me, as if I did something wrong. However, I was the 4th customer! If you have a problem with the 5th customer, you should tell the 5th and the people coming after that. As she was staring at me, there were other customers entering the store. She did nothing. I am not supposed to do the customer control for the store. And I don't understand why she ignored my greetings and treated me so rude. I will never come back again. I prefer a place where the staff treat customers politely and do their work professionally. read more

Good to see new places opening up in Ann Arbor area... stopped by to check it out, walked out with goodies and spent $30. I went around 11 am on a Sunday... as you walk in you are in bread heaven... the smell... they are freshly made on the spot and I saw the employees packing the new batch in the back counter. I walked around few times before getting a tray to get my stuff... So far, my favorite is the sweet potato stuffed bread and custard... I also tried their almond cream - not fan. I was so excited to hear about the arrival of an Asian bakery in the area again! So I made it a point to swing by to show my support, only to be met with a rather cold and unwelcoming lady manning the counter. Prices were STEEP. Perhaps prices look especially magnified next to the $0.85 - $1.25/bun standards in Chicago, but I feel like they are even more expensive than Pastry House hippo out in Novi, and that's typically my upper limit for Asian pastries. Let's be real here, there's no way that one bun took even close to $3 to make. Plus, they are always nice at Pastry House hippo. The actual taste of the buns and cakes were pretty good, hence the rating. And perhaps the lady was having a bad day, so I wouldn't pin my entire review on that aspect alone, but prices make it pretty prohibitive for return business from this customer. read more

If you are missing good old Asian buns this is the place to be. If you never had one this is FOR sure DA PLACE TO BE. In general I love these soft and fluffy Asian bread and I was so happy that Yoons did not disappoint. First the owner is incredibly enthusiastic. I asked for a recommendation and ended up with twice as many buns on the tray as when I started, so I had to gently put some back and ended up trying these three: Custard bun (4.5/5) - I loooooove my custard buns. No matter where I am I always get a custard bun. From Iceland to Stockholm to Ann Arbor, I have to say this one did not disappoint. It was plenty generous on the custard in a soft milk bun. It's not super sweet either so you don't feel disgusting after. Must try! Red bean cream bun (4.5/5) - it is a very delicious bun. The owner recommended it to me and described it as "dynamite explosion in your mouth." I would def agree withr the explosion part because there was A LOT of cream. Def more cream than bun and red bean combined. But was it delicious, yes it was. The proportion was a little off but def worth a try. Honey twist (4/5) - this is a large one with lotus paste smothered in the twist. It is delicious but I felt the parts that didn't have the lotus paste was a bit lacking. Otherwise it is good but I would get the others over this. You should definitely stop by and try this place! I did sample the white bun with strawberry and it was not my cup of tea. But other buns here are very solid. Prices do tend to run a little high for Asian buns but it is not easy to find one in Ann Arbor so I'm not complaining! read more

This is such a cute space! We stumbled upon this bakery when we went to Way 1 Supermarket a few stores down. Afterwards, we looked up and saw the "Fresh, Handcrafted" next to Bakery description and immediately went inside. The space is quite open, with not a ton of product, but we like that. The offerings range from stuffed buns with bean paste, egg tarts, savory sandwiches, and other European-style pastries. Being egg tarts aficionados, we picked up 2, a green bean paste bun, a red bean paste bun. All were delicious and fluffy. You could taste the freshness in the bread, and the flavors were not overwhelmingly sweet as well. The paste in each bun was super smooth and had a great amount inside. At times, we've had bean paste sweet buns that are mostly composed of bread. However, these were the opposite and very delightful. The egg tarts, THE EGG TARTS though, were the stars. They had the thinnest crust that was borderline breakable, but they were firm and held the filling so well. The custard itself was silky, fluffy, and smooth. With a bit of brulee on top, it gave a nice nutty tone to each after bite. I would highly recommend getting those, and get them fast because they disappear. We were lucky enough that that afternoon, they had close to 10 left. I'm glad that they are here, and will happily come back for those egg tarts. However, the other sweet buns are just as good. My husband and I decided to visit Yoon's Bakery when we were in the area. We had heard good things about it and we were very curious. When you walk in you see along wooden table covered in a variety of sweet and savory pastries. On the right there is some antique shelving that holds more items. To get started, you should take a cafeteria-style tray and cover it with the available parchment paper sheets. Tongs are provided to pick up each item. We got so many things because so many things looked good. We had to limit ourselves because, after all, two people can only eat so much, right? The mocha bun was quite large and was filled with mocha cream. The panko sausage find with a frying pan encrusted with panko and drizzled with ketchup and mustard. We got a cinnamon donut for our kid to try and it was fried dough with yummy cinnamon flavor. There were also twist breads that were made of the same kind of dough but didn't have cinnamon. While in the shop I asked the shop owner, who was very friendly, to help me understand what soboro bread was because I had never heard of it. She asked me if I had any allergies and offered to cut up one piece to try. The bread is labeled as having peanuts, and the experience of eating it made me think it was coated with some kind of meringue. I really liked a lot. That one was plain but they offered it filled with vanilla cream or with chocolate custard. One thing I want to note is that the texture of these pastries is not improved by time. We bought more than we could eat that day and the next day discovered that we needed to oven the items so they would have a better texture because they had grown a bit soggy overnight. This is a small problem, since we can either buy just the amount we need next time or remember to toast them to perfection. I just want to let you know that if you can decide ahead of time, it's better to buy just what you can enjoy that day. read more

The best Asian bakery in Ann Arbor for sure! It is located in a plaza lined up next to various stores. When you walk into Yoon's, you'll find a wide variety of different breads - both sweet and savory. On their menu, they also have several drink options such as coffee and tea. One bread I always get is the Blueberry White Bread, which looks like a big, soft bagel. It's absolutely delicious and has just the right amount of sweetness that is not overbearing like some Western baked goods. The owner is very friendly and occasionally hands out samples when you come in. All of their baked goods are fresh on a daily basis. 10/10 would recommend to anyone craving bakery goods! read more

This is definately now one of my go to places whenever I visit AA. Soft fresh bread with the perfect level of moisture, bountiful fillings, and smells that make your mouth water: really can't ask for anything else from a bakery. They even had samples in the back near the cash register each time I stopped by. My favorites include the apricot crumb twist (the original twist is great too!), strawberry white bun (this thing is huge yet the bread is so fluffy and light), red bean bread (love the texture of the bean paste with the beans), custard bread (the owner even gave me one on the house to give as a gift since they're shaped like hearts!), soft baguette (my mouth is watering just thinking about it...), mocha coco (very unique crunch with hints of mocha), croquette bread (great if you're looking for something more savory!) and egg tart (has a thicker shell than what you normally get with a lemony glaze on top, still delicious even if it's not traditional!) but you seriously can't go wrong with any of their items! read more

This place instantly reminded me of the nice Indian bakeries with inexpensive and fresh baked goodies. As you walk in, you'll be overwhelmed with what to get because there are just so many options. I found the Yelp pictures helpful and went for the potato croquette and curried croquette. My husband had the one with sausage but liked my croquette better. They are on the oilier side but it doesn't taste like old and used oil - so that's good news! The panko on the croquettes make them extra yummy. Our breakfast here was a meagre $5 which is super reasonable. We were tempted to buy their bread but maybe some other time. Loved our experience of this clean and spacious bakery. Very VERY rude owner Have been here several times and bought so many different items. I'm partial to one (a custard tart) and went in last week to buy a few. The owner/cashier was short with my friend and I when I handed her my debit card. "10 dollar minimum," she said, "you go get more." That's a quote. For a moment I thought she must have meant that I should grab a courtesy item because we were only a bit shy of $10 and I could not imagine being sent to fetch food as if the buying choice was hers and not mine. So when I said, "Oh, sorry, this is all I want. I have no cash so maybe next time... Or do you mean get a free item?"... she literally SNORTED, grabbed the pastries I had brought to the counter and said, "Ok you go, next time." And SHOOED. US. OUT. I'm talking hand motions. Eye rolls. Complete disdain. You would think we were raccoons in her store instead of return business. When 2017 crashed into existence, I said "2017, you are the year in which I'm going to limit carbs and beer, so I can slim down." And 2017 responded with "Or you can go to this kickass Korean bakery where 90% of everything is filled with custard." It's still early, but this may be the year I really blow up. So Yoon's is a small hidden Korean bakery by a bunch of other Eastern Asian shops/restaurants on Plymouth Rd in Ann Arbor. I ordered takeout from Evergreen and just happened to stumble upon this place, which is right next door. The bakery reminds me of all the bakeries in Korean cities. Overall, the desserts are not quite as sweet as what you'll find in American bakeries. There are a lot of buns filled with custard (and the custard is incredible, by the way, doesn't take eggy like some do), cremes, bean paste, fried bean paste, sweet potatoes, and other delicious things. The custard tart may be my favorite. I always just fill my arms with buns when I walk in. They also have savory buns. I'll be honest, I haven't tried any from Yoon's. I did the first time I visited family in Korea, and I just really did not enjoy the savory buns. I think I'll try one from Yoon's someday, but I'm not quite there yet. They also have more American style desserts, like cake and cake slices, but I also have not yet tried them - but I am really really looking forward to. Will update after I try more of their desserts. Yoon's is such a special bakery with very authentic Korean baked goods. Everyone I've introduced it to has absolutely loved everything they've tried. Ok- so the baked goods are pretty good. That being said, the service and to a lesser extent, the prices, at least for my one experience, really hampered the experience. Bought a cake (cream cake, maybe about 8 iniches) which was pretty tasty- light, not too sweet, good flavor and not dry. Even the price, 27.99, although on the high side, wasn't horrific for a good quality freshly baked cake. The problem was that when I got to the store, all the employees were in the back and it looked like maybe they had a vendor there or something keeping the owner (I assume) busy. Nonetheless, at least 1-2 people made eye contact with me, saw me standing there, and yet no one came to ask if I needed help with anything etc. I literally just stood there for a good 5 minutes trying to get someone to help me until someone came to help. When he did finally come, no "thanks for waiting" or "sorry for the wait" or even a smile (despite clearly making eye contact with me 5 min earlier when I was looking for someone to help). Just made for a poor experience...ie the customer is the core of your business, some sort of positive interaction with them is probably helpful. Anyhow, maybe it was just this one employee (the lady that I assume owns the place was nice on the phone) or just this one day but not a great experience despite good cake. read more
