I was having a blah day and had absolutely no interest in cooking. After tossing ideas around with the bf, we finally decided to try some place new that was close to our place. Having driven by the place on a daily basis for almost a year, I was pretty excited to check it out. We opted for take-out rather than dining in, so I can't really talk about the whole dining experience. I think an update will be needed. I got the full order of fish and chips. At first, seeing the price tag for two pieces of fish, I was a little turned off. That is until I saw just how big the pieces of fish are. The breading was nice and light and was perfectly crisp. The fish, although very moist and flaky, was just firm enough to not fall apart everywhere. The chips? Meh they were ok. I hear they have great clam strips. I haven't had much else and to be honest this place is no frills. Obviously not a place for a date unless your girl is from Liverpool and missing the food of her native peoples... I was going to wait until I gave this place a second try, but I'll review it now (and update if I go back- it may be awhile). Yorkshire is actually just up the street from where I've lived for almost 3 years now, but I just finally made it over for lunch. I decided to go with the standard fish n' chips- I feel like you should try the signature dish at a place first, y'know? The upside was that it was FAST. Like, whoa, fast. Two huge pieces of fish thrown on top of some fries, finished off with salt and malt vinegar. The downside is that I just didn't think it was that good. The fish didn't have a lot of flavor- I had to put extra salt on, which I rarely do. I appreciated that it wasn't overly greasy though, and I didn't feel yucky later as I often do from fried food. Oh, I also thought 9 bucks was pretty pricey for 2 pieces of fish and a handful of soggy fries. Like I said, I'll give it another try, since it's in the hood. read more

As authentic fish and chips go, I would say Yorkshire is on point. Cod is nicely cooked and battered lightly. You get a little teaser amount of the fried batter "crumbs" with your chips which is an offering in many Chippies in GB. I would prefer better chip as some reviews have cited the average frozen fries that are served. The fried oysters are something else. They are not overcooked, just flash fried, rich, and delicious. Though perhaps priced a little high, you get what you pay for and I have never been disappointed. The only thing that would make this place better would be if they served beer. Which I tried convincing the employees they should. The kids agreed. The dad/ owner- not so much. Oh, and I was a little bummed there wasn't any salt on the chips, but I think that's because my wife had originally told them no salt, then recanted- they probably didn't hear her. The best fish and chips you'll find in Denver. Yeah so the floors are a little sticky, and the decor is a little dated, but the fish is awesome!! Its one of those rare dives that stays afloat because, and heres a novel idea, the food is good. Plus who needs a clean resturaunt when the food sucks? In a time were every mom and pop fast food resturaunt is being torn down to make way for a new Mcdonals or BK it rare to find a place that actually has an original flavor. I do agree however that the frys were dissapointing but , again, THE FISH IS GOOD!!!!! so it really dosn't matter. So little of these placese exsist anymore, especially around Denver. But I noticed that the fryer is new and in good shape, and as many times as I have been there it has always been clean. The service is slow, but that is to be expected when they fry it as you wait. We love this place! We don't get to come often because it's on the North side of Denver. Shop has been here like 40 years, opened by a couple from the U.K. They make it to order...the most delicious juicy cod I've ever had. They use peanut oil and the taste is fantastic, even without condiments. The fries (chips) are fluffy with a crispy skin. Yum! The coleslaw is a standout as well. First off I am from New England and believe me...my diet is very seafood centric when I am at home. That being said, the seafood that I miss the most when I am living here in Colorado is clam strips. I came to the restaurant with clams on my mind and that is what I ordered. My partner had the fish and chips. I didn't think the fries were fantastic. The clam strips were really good...but I would have to say that the fish and the tartar sauce were REALLY good. I can't say that the strips were quite comparable to those that I get in CT, but they are a worthy stand-in for when I have a craving. Solid fish and chips however for what they lack in flavor they make up for in oil. Very greasy but I suppose that is expected with fish and chips. The place is a definite dive. The service has never been friendly here and kind of pricey for what you get. They are definitely doing something right though. This place is the perfect "hole in the wall" Fish and Chips place!! My family and I have been going to Yorkshire since I was a little kid and now I take my own family and my son here! Such a great mom and pop restaurant with no frills but amazing food. Years ago their hours of operation were limited and anytime their family went on vacation the restaurant would shut down too. We are excited to see that they have a steady hour of operation and aren't closed on any regular day!! Their fish and chips, fried oysters, coleslaw, and best of all the amazing TARTAR sauce are fresh and delicious every time. I've never had a bad experience here. It can get crowded as the restaurant isn't that big but its worth the wait!!! My entire family enjoys this restaurant even though we live over 40minutes away! Wanted to try this place for the longest time, seeing it and knowing about it from Value Ads I kept receiving in the mail. Went on a Saturday during lunch hour and ordered fish and chips (full order, 2 pieces), chicken strips (full order, 5 pieces) and mushrooms (full order, about 10 pieces). Total came to about $22, which seemed a bit on the expensive side. The fish was worth the price though, nice and crunchy. Best British style fried fish in Denver - English batter is not supposed to be seasoned. The 'chips', well, I wish they would use thick cut, Maybe the thin ones are easier on their fryer, I don't know. I stopped mentioning it years ago, just like I stopped mentioning that the relatively tiny pieces they fry up at GB's Fish & Chips are nothing like you get in the UK ("they stay crispier" per their manager). I like a big slab of fish and it reminds me of Knutsford, Blackpool or any other small town shop in England. It is a local 'hole in the wall', but like many others here have mentioned, this is just like a UK chip shop (without mushy peas - bummer!) or a Northeastern US fried seafood shack. I would have never found this place if I hadn't had to use the restroom while driving to Denver. As I was pulling out of the gas station, the Yorkshire Fish & Chips sign caught my eye and I knew I had to try it out. I don't know why people are saying that the decor and atmosphere is grim, the place reminds me of a lot of fish and chip places I've been to in England and Scotland and personally thought the place was quite quaint. It's not 5 star dining but it's definitely not a seedy hole in the wall restaurant either. As you walk in you smell the familiar scent of malt vinegar and frying oil and the menu has great variety (fish and chips, oysters, calm, calamari, fried mushrooms, etc). I ordered the combination plate which came with a piece of fish 5 scallops, some shrimp, and fries, a cup of coleslaw, and a Dr. Pepper. My girlfriend ordered the regular fish and chips. One aspect that I didn't like about the place was you had to pay for the food after it came out. Not that it is a big deal but it would be nice to just wait and pick up your food after you ordered but that point is pretty moot. When we saw the portions of food we were quite surprised. The full order of fish and chips had 2 huge pieces of cod + a heaping portion of fries. My combo plate was an even larger feat. I thought that the fish was pretty good. The fish was flaky and the batter was crisp. It wasn't overly greasy and again the portions were HUGE. I could care less for the scallops, I thought there was a little too much batter for the size but it wasn't too bad. The coleslaw was pretty good and the price of $0.75 you can't beat it. I would say that the fries were mediocre at best. They might have been packaged but I can't be certain. I wish they were more like pub fries/chips but it's not a deal. I don't see how this place has so many loyal followers? For $12.37 I was expecting some flavor or at least something decent. The portion size was great, but the fries are the basic frozen restaurant fries that you get at any downtown café. On my particular visit, the fries were not cooked all the way through and they have that crumbled cardboard texture in the middle. I mention how I felt about the food to the three gentleman at the front and basically got three shoulder shrugs in unison. I get it, it's a local dive spot that people must love. However, as a new customer that did not know anything about the restaurant I will not be returning. I gave a two star rating because the portions were good and the person that took my order was friendly. Best Fish and Chips EVER(apparently just like overseas according to the significant other) If you're not crazy hungry just order 1-2 pieces, unless you want massive leftovers, the pieces of fish are enormous, they don't skimp on the chips either, delicious tarter sauce even!! Yorkshire has some of the best fish and chips in town! The fish actually has flavor, not just the breading. A half order is plenty unless you are very hungry. The clam strips are my favorite but we usually get an order of fish and one of clams so we can share. Fries are solid as is the coleslaw. Green beans are very good as well. I had driven by this place many times, always wanting to check it out. Today, lunch time and I was in the neighborhood. First impressions walking in: I personally never judge how well a place cooks up a meal by the appearance by the way.. Kind of a dive. I agreed With a soda, and 19 dollars later, I had my combo within 5 minutes. The shrimp, 5 pieces, was great. The fries as others have mentioned are soggy, but decent tasting. The combo came with 1 piece of fish, about 8" long. The batter was very crisp, with good taste. Unfortunately, let me down in the freshness category. Flaked nicely, but you could definitely tell that we live 1000 miles from the nearest ocean. I for one would not like to be reminded of that once in a while. The meal came with all sides I asked for (marinara, tarter, and malt vinegar, which is a must have for me). All sides were up to par. Overall, definitely overpriced. Came here to eat for the 1st time with the hubby and we were disappointed. We had the combo platter which was $16.00 for 3 jumpo shrimp, 5 scallops and 1 big piece of cod fish. We told the cashier it was our 1st time in and he didnt really seem to care. It wss $21.11 for 1 combo platter and 2 drinks. A little pricey for what we received. Everything extra greasy like everyone has said. Scallops were good, but was not a big fan of the cod. Not for my taste atleast. I worked near this place for 10 years and I enjoyed it everytime. I did not go very often as it's on my no-no list of foods (all fried), but when I splurged it was great. I get the same thing, half order of fish and chips and fried mushrooms. A full order of fish and chips is a lot of food. The tartar sauce is good and you have to have it with vinegar. The fries aren't the best, but the fish is the star of the dish anyway. Clam chowder is good on a cold day too. I highly recommend you go here. I have attempted to get other items as fried shrimp or fried oysters, but a bit pricey, so I opt out, I am sure they are great as well. read more
