We've eaten here twice. The fish is the best ever. Tonight we had oysters and fish. They serve alcohol and the beer is always tasty to wash down the cod. I always order the full meal. 1/2 meal is an option but I never feel full eating the full meal. My husband ordered fish and I order oyster then we split our meal. The only combination meal gives you all four choices for $17.00, includes fish, scallops, shrimp. So anyways we shared and made our own combination. This place is a must try at least once. read more

Wow, these guys still turn out a good platter of fish and chips (the clam strips are excellent too). While all the other fast food fish and chip pretenders have come and gone these guys still churn out piles of fresh fish. I've been eating here for over 20 years and it's still good. I have never been able to figure out the need for the pile of fried batter bits that gets tossed into every cardboard tray of fish and chips unless it sops up the oil to keep the fish batter crisp? I have had many a great plate of fish & chips at various Brit and Irish pubs around the country BUT this place is the closest you can get to an original British 'Fish & Chip Shop'. A little background, the chippy is the British version of fast food. They are always open for lunch and stay open late so you can eat after the pub. So about Yorkshire, when you walk in, the counter where the fish is displayed & drained fresh out of the deep fat fryer is just like back home. The menu is basic with Fish and Chips in half or full sizes, then theres Scallops or Clam Chowder which I did not try. Chippys are normally take away but this place has a seating area so I decided to dine in as I don't live close. I got the full size Fish & Chips which is two good size strips of cod battered (but not greasy) over some thick cut chips. $8.95 is not bad compared to pub prices. On the table they had salt, malt vinegar and ketchup. I was there at 4pm and while I ate there was a steady stream of customers ranging from young to old and about half was take away (carry out)! This place could only get better if they had other traditional items like gravy, sausage or pies etc. So if you like or wanna try authentic British Fish & Chips, give this place a try. read more

Maybe it was because I was super hungry but the three guys manning this place worked their MAGIC. The strips of fish were so perfectly fried, golden and crispy. Not greasy whatsoever. I'm a Brit that's been living in the States for well over a decade now. The hunt for the holy grail that is good fish and chips in America is a constant one - but it was one that other reviews regarding this restaurant suggested would be at an end. Sadly, not so. When I placed my order (full order of fish & chips) I asked if they also served curry sauce, a very common 'condiment' sold in fish and chip shops in Britain. I barely got the question out before the server said 'No'. It was clear he had heard the question on many previous occasions, which begs the question why hadn't they responded to customer interest? That was my first red flag. My order was up very quick, indicating that the fish was not cooked fresh, which it doesn't absolutely need to be, but fish is obviously better when it is cooked to order. None the less, the fish could still be good. It wasn't. Another red flag, the fish was a strange stick as opposed to a filet. The 'stick' was heavily over-battered and then, to compound the issue, over-cooked. The fish and the batter simply didn't taste particularly good - in fact, it didn't taste of much of anything but burnt grease. And so to the chips; they weren't chips, but french fries. How hard is it to hand-cut potato's, people?!! Fries are no more chips than an ice-cream cone is an ice-cream sundae. Chips are a distinct thing - and this wasn't them. Additionally, the 'chips' were inconsistently crunchy and soggy, another sign of over-cooking and re-heating, and their temperature somewhere between lukewarm and cold. As several other reviewers have pointed out, the tartar sauce is good. I don't know it it's home-made or store-bought, but it's a good blend of creamy and tart via the pieces of pickle liberally spread throughout. The tartar sauce actually made the fish edible - although I still left half my order of fish because I simply couldn't stomach another mouthful of crunchy grease. The whole meal was served in a very small paper dish that made it hard to eat because the 'tubes' of fish kept rolling off the dish whenever you dug to try and get a chip. Why not serve the meal on a proper plate? British sit-down fish and chip restaurants serve fish and chips on a plate. Paper dishes or wrapping paper are for take-out. So in conclusion, for a restaurant that proposes to be a traditional style Yorkshire/English/British fish and chip shop, it misses the mark on just about every level. I'm truly taking no satisfaction in providing this damning review; I'm $14 dollars poorer, having eaten a massively disappointing lunch and still no further ahead in finding that elusive, truly authentic British fish and chip shop. Take it from a real Englishman that this is far, far, far from authentic. Not many options for people wanting to experience 'British' food. I've never heard of a chippy offering green beans! No mushy pea's, no gravy, no curry, no pies, no bangers, no beans. Not very Yorkshire at all. The logs of fish are dry, and very unappealing, they taste like the fish you buy from a supermarket freezer section, the fries were OK, better than the fish. My husband and I had a taste for seafood so I decided to pick up dinner. My husband had the combo plate and I also added an extra piece of fish. I ordered the shrimp dinner. The food was fresh and hot. Our food was made fresh to order. The only downfall is there is not enough seasoning in their batter. I've been coming here for years. It seems like a real dive, but it's the best fish and chips I've found in CO. It's very cheap, and I only get a one piece which is far more than adequate to satisfy my craving for greasy goodness. Sometimes the quality is not always consistent, it can be a little too greasy, but for the most part you won't be diaponted. The deep fried mushrooms are out of this world and would be enough to bring me in even if it weren't for the great fish. It is beyond me why this place is such a favorite. The food is mediocre and the prices are way high. For $6.00, I got one medium-sized Fish and a bunch of bland fries. I ate here before about 10 years ago and it was disappointing then, too. Thinking, I should give it another try I ordered lunch there today. I think the fish at Long John Silver is hotter, crisper and flakier at about 1/2 the price. If it's not bad enough that the food is average and overpriced, when you order it to go, they do a very poor job packaging your food in a lunch sack so the fries and fish spill out all over the place. My fish was broken into about 4 pieces by the time I got it back to my office to eat it. Why do so many people like this place? The only thing I can come up with is power of suggestion. It really DOES look like one of those hole-in-the-wall, dive, authentic-local joints where the food is supposed to be really good. One positive note: the staff was very friendly and hard-working. I think for the prices they charge, they can do a little better in the quality and to-go- packaging. Either that, or reduce the price by about 40%. read more

I love good fish and chips and rarely find it. This place, although kind of grim, has excellent fish and so-so chips. I had a half order of fish and chips and was very impressed with the fish. Cooked to perfection, and not a bit over cooked. Most places completely overcook the fish. The chips or fries were un-inspired. I also had a half order of scallops and those were also only ok. The prices are kind of high, and the wait is a little long, but they don't start cooking until you order, and that's the way it should be. I'll be back once in awhile when I get that fish and chip craving that I can't get scratched anywhere else. read more

I was willing to ignore the unkempt look of the place, the abundant dirty tables even though the place was empty, the very long wait for our food, the ridiculous prices and the Fox Cable News channel blaring all in the name of finding some good fish and chips a bit closer to home than going all the way to GBs in Denver. I found the fish to be void of seasoning and flavor and in weird log shapes to boot. The other reviewers are correct - the tartar sauce and slaw are decent but that doesn't make for good fish. Enjoyed the fish but have to agree with other reviews that the fries are no big deal. Place is pricey but the fish is high quality. Also tried the clam chowder. It is excellent. Decor is very basic. Counter ordering, order taker very nice. Free refills on drinks. They could clean there tables more often. You can order different sides to replace the fries. I would recommend doing that. read more

So this is going to be a sad review. Is Yorkshire fish and chips "good". It is decent. The batter is not flakey, it is not pull apart melt in your mouth, make me want to stand up and come back again good. In other words I was pissed at myself for not going to GB fish and chips. I used to like this place, the prices keep rising and the quality has gone down and so has the service. I asked if they would not make the food too crispy and when I got the food, they practically burned the fish, it was already bagged and didn't see it before I left. I asked for some extra tarter sauce and the guy said that he already put one in, I told him that I would like another one, he said that he would have to charge me .40 cents and I said that was fine to go ahead and charge me, he got upset and started slamming things, practically threw my change into my hand. Finally found great seafood in Denver at Yorkshire! I had a half order of oysters that were each the size of my fist. Took home clam strips and fish for dinner that were equally delectable. Not a French fry fan so subbed green beans and cole slaw. Ample petite well seasoned green beans. Inside looks like a LJS but that's the ONLY similarity. If you're looking for fancy go somewhere else. If you are looking for great fresh fried seafood this is the place. read more

This place definately isn't anything fancy, but they have awesome fish n chips!! The place looks a little run down from the outside (basically a hole in the wall type place). It is a local family owned restaurant and have a pretty decent size menu. I just wish they would serve beer or some form of alcohol. But their fish n chips is incredible. At the very bottom of your container are lots of yummy like fried pieces to enjoy when the fish is all gone! They have pretty speedy service too for how busy the place gets. read more
