I can't believe I haven't reviewed these guys yet! Yoshi Sushi is located off of E. Calaveras Blvd next to Nothing Bundt Cakes and right across Safeway. Yoshi's sushi lunch special has a pick 3 sushi rolls (from a specific list) option for $16 bucks. (p.s. I don't like avocados on my rolls) Personally, thats a great deal in my book because at some places, that shrimp tempura roll is 11-12 bucks alone. Wanna try something else? They've got these combo plates where you can choose chicken, beef, katsu pork or salmon that comes with 3 California rolls, rice salad, miso soup & potstickers starting as low as 15.99. I enjoy the food there, the pricing is reasonable, their great service and has a welcoming atmosphere. TLDR: Convenient location - next to Safeway. Decent Lunch Specials The lunch specials are all $15.50, which costs as much as a specialty roll. It comes with a protein, a pretty big mound of brown rice, miso soup, salad, 2 gyoza and 4 CA rolls. It's actually quite filling for only $15.50. I ordered the chicken katsu, and it was nicely fried, not over-done at all. The chicken was tender inside and not stringy. I like they provide a big bowl of tonkatsu sauce. Very necessary! The salad was also a big portion and had the right amount of miso salad dressing. I also liked the gyozas as well. The CA rolls were average, and not rolled very well, but still wasn't bad at all. The miso soup tasted funny. Not sure, but I didn't like it at all. Even my wife made a face when she drank hers, and she normally likes the soup. Maybe that day's batch was messed up, but I will stay away. My wife ordered the salmon teriyaki. I felt it a bit dry, but she thought it was decent. Not bad, but she's had better. Finally we also ordered a Lion King roll, no spicy mayo, since she needs to abstain from spiciness. It was warmly baked, and the salmon was nice and soft. It tasted pretty good! I'd definitely order it again. The roll was average sized, not too big, not too small either. Best part is the location... right next to Safeway. Got the shrimp tempera, California roll, and dynamite rolls and the first 2 were pretty solid. Very employable and tasty. However the dynamite rolls weren't that great. There was just way too much going on in a big roll would've been so much better if they got rid of half the sauces on it. Overall tho pretty solid id eat again. read more

My husband and I decided to finally do a sit down dinner here since we've sushi rolls delivered to our place in the past, which we had enjoyed. We got here around 7pm on a Tuesday night and luckily we were seated right away. We were pleased by the fact they had sake and beer since another local sushi spot doesn't have sake. The hot sake was actually good. We would order that again. We were asked a few times if we needed our cups to be refilled with water, which I greatly appreciated. Food overall was delicious. The mango crunch and warriors rolls were our favorite and tasted even better when it's fresh as opposed to it being delivered on doordash. For the nigiri we got, I loved that it was a small amount of rice with the long cut of fish. There was no wasabi in between the fish and rice, which is how I like my nigiri. The interior was very clean, modern and nice. Next time, we'll want to sit by the sushi bar. Loved the EDM music that was playing. Restrooms were clean and plenty of parking in the plaza. I saw that they have a lunch special M-F so we might have to come back one day for that. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our food and the service here. I think the food at Yoshi sushi is pretty good, albeit expensive. They used to have happy hour every night from 9pm to closing with a 20% discount on food. However, they recently reduced it to 10%. The 10% discount is still generous, but no longer worth it for us to make the trek out here when we have sushi locally at comparable prices (especially when factoring in that we would have to come late at night on a weekday to take advantage of the discount). My favorite rolls here are the salmon lover and the fried hotel California roll. The Hotel California may be the best deep fried roll I've ever had. It's flavorful, saucy, and has a kick. As for the oysters, they're fresh and I love the ponzu sauce, but wasn't a fan of the wasabi that they put on them. It made it difficult to eat and takes away from the natural oyster taste. Note that happy hour does not apply to oysters. Overall, it's a great place to get sushi if you're willing to spend a pretty penny and eat late at night. read more

A modern and inviting atmosphere, with a couple TVs for watching sports (we caught the end of the niners game this past weekend). The place was really chill, even if seemingly busy. The sashimi plate was served on ice with simple but nice presentation, fresh mackerel no complaints, and the dragon roll was pretty decent too with crunchy tempura shrimp and tasty crab meat inside. The mango crush roll was great with a taste of fresh seafood and the perfect crunch from fried mango. Service was great. You have to order your food through a mobile menu and ordering service. It can be a little frustrating because you can't add changes to your food or make requests. Finally tried Yoshi Sushi with a friend on a Thursday night, and I was surprised to walk into a full house! Chill ambiance with the sushi chefs in the middle of the restaurant, with plenty of bar and table seating. You get seated, order by scanning a QR code on the table, and your food is brought out. Easy process! We ordered the chicken karage for appetizer. I'd say it was a 3/5 since there was more batter than I would've liked. All the rolls were pretty solid! I really liked the rainbow roll. Generous pieces of sashimi and avocado, and I liked the variety of fish. The mango crunch was good, but I didn't really taste the mango as much as I had hoped. I brought my family here after my graduation and I think everyone enjoyed the food! I was telling them the sports-named rolls are really good and also the Hotel California. For 14.99 each roll, I think it's pretty good for the price, and not to mention 20% off between 9-11 pm. One thing to note is for 4+ parties, gratuity will be added to the bill. I felt bad because big groups are really rowdy and it's always difficult to decide on what to eat and stuff but they were really patient with us and offered really good service. We called in and they were very nice to reserve seating for 11!! The last two times I came the Warriors roll was so much better than what I remembered it. I think my current go-to right now is the Warriors roll (avoid if you don't like fried onions!) and Hotel California. I wish the sriracha aioli had more sriracha though! My uncle asked for it on the side and it was more on the sweet side. He also wished the spicy miso ramen was more spicy. I thought it was an enjoyable level but if you are a spice lover maybe ask for more. I tried their sashimi for the first time and it was really good! It was served on a Himalayan salt block. The syrup art was lovingly made by the wait staff who noticed I was having a date night and made the experience quite memorable. Fast forward to now. Depending on your phone carrier, you may have a hard time ordering here. There are no paper menus. If you're not of the smartphone wielding type, not to worry, you will be handed a tablet from the wait staff that they use to place orders. Water cups are never refilled, the experience consisted of staring at your phone screen to fumble through several pages of menus. I stare at screens for a living. When it comes to a night out, this is not what I wanted to do, I wanted to disconnect. Before these changes, you could see a line out the door and many people wanting to enjoy the best of what Yoshi Sushi has to offer. I should have known something was off when we came on a weekend evening and the restaurant was empty. This might be good for to-go orders, but the message is clear: you take away the personable experience of having proper ordering and force digital experiences for everyone, you lose your dine in patrons. It is okay to have digital ordering options. It is not okay to make it the only option. Thanks for the good times offered when it was a welcoming dining experience. We tried to enjoy that new digital experience of ordering. But Because of these changes, My partner in crime and I have now made a pact to walk out of any sit down restaurant that chooses to engage in a digital only experience. If the ownership reads this: please reconsider these changes. Or at the very least, give your customers wifi access so that they may order in a quick and efficient manner. read more

The mango crunch roll was ok but the rice was still hard. Don't expect the karaage to be karaage. It's more of a taiwanese style popcorn chicken. Although the chicken is a bit dry, the flavor is not bad. The yellowtail jalapeño is not really what we expected as well. It was not that good. As soon as we saw it, we asked to return it and the waiter pushed it back on us. The hamachi kama was burnt. Pretty hard to mess us hamachi kama. There's so many better japanese restaurants in the area. Save your time and don't come here. The sashimi had weird texture. Not sure if it's fresh No pics bc they were all disappointing. I have to apologize, upon coming in earlier this evening my friend and I were a little irritated but it wasn't any of the staffs fault. I had a difficult day. Actually upon sitting down I was very impressed, I asked the gentlemen who seated us if he can bring me water for my meds and hot tea write away and within 15 seconds some lady brought it out . That was very mindful. The ambiance of this place was very comforting and neat. The vibe definitely had a temporary look and feel, which is substantially noteworthy. The menu was a little difficult for my friend and I to navigate so we had to ask for help. A younger gentleman came over and assisted us throughout our whole meal, he went over and beyond with services. The first gentleman who seated us was just as accommodating! They were very helpful and fondly exceptional in knowledge guiding us around the menu. We started with the Chef's special, Dream Box which was as assortment of scallops, clams, raw oysters, fried fish head, raw fish tail, fatty tuna (melts in your mouth, I'll tell you right now it's not like regular tuna!), yellow tail, sea urchin, monkfish, and squid. I'll add pictures to this post- my description does not do justice!! However my friend does eat a lot of sushi and has been to many Japanese and sushi restaurants and says hands down one of his favorites places now. We also ordered the Smoking Salmon (or smoked Salmon which literally served on a crystal stone plate and as you lift the glass lid, smoke arises from inside! So delicious, definitely not your regular salmon sashimi! My friend had the fried oysters which he gulped down (I'm not huge on fried food) so I had ordered I side salad. Both items were to our liking. Desert was absolutely delicious- and I mean mouth watering and exquisite looking, their set up was very unique. We had the green tea cheesecake and strawberry mochi.
