There aren't any Yoshinoyas in so many miles and it definitely does help alleviate the Yoshinoya cravings but it's gonna be the funkiest Yoshinoya you have ever eaten. I don't know where to start... the "food" is just awful on all accounts. First, their steamed vegetables emphasize exactly why people dislike vegetables... they are dull, textureless, and just unpleasant to consume (which, by the way, I did not willingly order, but was defaulted to after I ordered everything else because they ran out of coleslaw). Next, their orange chicken is breaded improperly. Any piece of chicken I bit into had a raw layer of breading, which you can scrape off like a dentist scraping off plaque on a tooth. Finally, you can pay an additional $2 to be further disappointed with overcooked udon, hooray! The only saving grace Yoshinoya has is that the lady at the cashier is very kind. However, that does not deter us from the fact that you should just take your business to Panda Express, or even the dining commons, where it will make your wallet and your tummy more happy :)! read more

This place is not on the Yoshinoya app and also not Yoshinoya standard in price, quality, quantity, menu selection! I have tasted Yoshinoya across California and Japan and this one is unfortunately one of the worst. Because it isn't on the app you cannot get deals, and the menu prices are higher also. They give larger portions of gyudon that are also thicker and meatier but less flavorful than regular Yoshinoya. I haven't tried myself but apparently the salmon and chicken are very bad. However I still go sometimes because it's the only one around for 60-100 miles. The old lady usually at the counter is very nice. However the line is usually pretty long. If those issues were fixed and especially if it was in the app I would go almost everyday. read more

Yoshinoya reminds me of growing up. My mom would get it weekly when I was in Jr. High and High School. It was always a go-to late night meal coming home from gigs in Hollywood since they were open really late. There is some definite nostalgia for me surrounding their combo bowl. One thing I didn't realize is there were no Yoshinoya spots in Oahu. That surprised me since there are so many Japanese chains set up there. So I couldn't get my fix when I was living there. When I moved to Santa Barbara it also surprised me that there was only one in the area. Lucky for me, it is located on campus so that means it is close to work! The hours suck (wish it was opened later) but the flavors of my youth are there. Time to go get a combo bowl. read more

This place...exists? It's in a building alongside Courtyard Café, underneath a UCSB parking lot past the Engineering building, oceanside. It's quite hard to find if you don't come regularly. Anyways when I ordered my beef a la carte (I'm on low carb), the cashier lady who didn't understand English very well tried to get my name for the order and it was a struggle. I had to spell out G-E-O-R-G-E three times before she just gave up and just spelt it as "Georte," which was quite amusing in my opinion. At least after I waited for my name to be called, she stopped the cook from swindling me by switching the kiddie sized petri dish and hooking me up with a big takeout-sized platter of beef. Props for making up for the spelling mistake with lots of food. Back to the actual review. Most people don't know that this place even exists on campus, but all the engineering students like me, do. Even then, expect long lines of engineering peeps and the seats being mostly taken. However, the order was finished fairly quickly. Most of their items cost more than the Panda Express in the Hub, while portions are smaller. For example, the takeout plates that I saw were about half the size of what you'd get for a 2 entree 1 side Panda express, where you'd pay $7 to $9 for most entrees, or $5 for the a la carte that I got. Beef was pretty standard like other Yoshinoyas, it's kind of oily without the rice and noodles, but I like it greasy and tender as a Keto person. Comes with grilled onions. Decent place. Filled me enough, and the service was good in that one instance. I didn't like how the backroom chefs could be so stingy though. read more

I used to get the combo bowl which comes with rice and steamed vegetables, along with angus beef and steak but now I get the combo bowl with bbq ribs and the grilled tilapia. Yoshinoya needs to come to the central coast! Every time I go to LA to visit my family I get Yoshinoya. Yummy

Not too many people know there's a Yoshinoya on campus. It's underneath Lot 10, next to the Courtyard Cafe. I really like eating in this area because it's not as crowded. I like the lady who works there, she's very nice. It's kind of weird ordering here, you go to the Yoshinoya register first to tell her your order, then she prints out a receipt, and then you have to wait in another line to another cashier to actually pay. They don't accept the money I have in my student ID like other restaurants on campus, so I have to pay with my debit card. Then that cashier gives you your recipe back with a Paid stamp, and then you go back to claim your order. The teriyaki chicken and beef are acceptable to eat. It tastes like any other location. There's too much rice leftover, and not a lot of meat. I paid $5.61 for the beef and $6.90 for the chicken, which is quite expensive. I claimed a birthday reward recently (free teriyaki bowl with purchase of drink) and paid $2 for my meal, which was nice. I'll probably think twice about eating here again. read more
