Best haircut of my life!!! I initially walked into this salon because I had received a coupon from them. The Salon was very clean and the people who worked there were very nice. As soon as I entered the receptionist asked if I would like something to drink. They set me up with Keri for a haircut. At first I was super nervous because I have yet to walk away from a haircut with a good feeling. I am very happy to say that Keri gave me the best hair cut ever! She made sure that I was 100% happy with the end result - and I was. She listened to what I wanted - and executed it perfectly. One thing that really stood out to me is that normally when I tell a stylist that I feel like my hair is flat on top they usually just recommend product for adding volume. She actually cut my hair in a way that I had never seen before to add instant volume. Although I no longer live in San Diego I will definitely make the trip just to go get my hair cut by her. I used to go see Patrick here and he always did a fantastic job. He would also do my girlfriends hair too, and her hair always looked amazing when he was done. I stopped going here to cut costs, and after going to a barber in the area for a few months I popped in to get a haircut because my barber was closed. YES go here !!!!! I am ALWAYS offered tea and/or water when I arrive and when my "regular" stylist isn't there; Kalvin, I have made appointments with others and was also very satisfied. The front desk staff rock -- they are always so helpful when buying any of the yummy products and always accomodating when I have to book an appt. I've also gotten my eyebrows waxed there and they always come out great. I cant say enough about DULCE!!! She gave me back BEAUTIFUL HAIR-I had damaged my blonde hair with overpaying for stylists who over processed my hair one to many times-I walked into the salon a bit hopeless. Love Love Love. Stylist Nick fixed the awful cut I got a Dearenger. He listened & did an amazing job! I really mean, I feel like I have found "my" stylist. When people ask, I can say "oh, my hairdresser is Nick, he does an AMAZING job!" If you want to know the back story, read my 1 Star (bc 0 stars arn't allowed" review of the cut I got from Dearenger. Let me tell you, Nick at Young Attitudes did not have much to work with, yet somehow he worked some magic. Below, is the thank-you note I wrote to him, and the salon: Nick, you may remember me as the red head who came in with an awful cut from Dearenger. I was miserable as my hair had been on the losing end of a brutal battle against a pair of scissors. I was forced to hide my shame in ponytails & with hats. Dearenger had taken a good three inches off, and had not left you much to work with. But somehow, you did it, you worked some Rapunzel style magic, and managed to give me an amazing cut. It's been about two weeks now & I still LOVE my cut! The layers are flawless, I can let me hair air dry right out of the shower, & the layers look great with my funky, kinky, waves; or I can blow it out all smooth, and the layers look so polished. My side bangs fall perfectly, and can blend with the rest of my cut, or look great by themselves when I put my hair up. I really really love my cut. Made and appointment on Wednesday for Friday. I asked specifically for Lacey as she's been cutting my boyfriends hair for years. First, I love the smell of Aveda! Everyone is very nice and asked if I wanted something to drink while I was waiting. I had not had my hair cut in about a year and needed a freshen up pretty bad. Lacey was great, put some long layers in it and of course, the scalp massage is great. I walked out feeling like a new woman! Tarah was amazing!!! I moved to San Diego 4 years ago and would drive up to Orange County to get my hair done by the person who had been doing my hair for the last 7 years, so when it came time to go to someone new in SD, I was really nervous. The first stylists I tried in Golden Hill did an okay job but had really inconvenient hours. The second stylist I tried in North Park gave me the WORST haircut I have ever had. Then it came time to get my hair done again (by the third stylist in less than 6 months) and I was even more nervous, beginning to think that I was just out of luck. Then I found Young Attitudes on Yelp. They have great reviews and I love Aveda products so I decided to give them a call. I called at 3pm and then got me in at 6pm on the same day, with Tarah. When I asked how experienced she was, I was told that all of their stylists had to have at least 2 years experience to even be considered for a position there and Tarah had been working there for a couple of years already... this was sounding promising. When I arrived, the front desk staff was super friendly, and Tarah greeted me very warmly. She took me to her chair and immediately began the consultation. I have been fighting stylists putting red in my hair for the last year, each time telling them I wanted to get away from the red and they would never listen. One of Tarah's first questions was "do you want to stay with the red?" I of course told her no along with the rest of the story and she instantly had a plan to counteract the red. Needless to say, I was super excited to see my color. Then it came time to talk about the cut... which was currently HORRIBLE! She told me what the last stylists failed to do with my super thick, wavy hair and then explained what she wanted to do... again, super excited to see how it would turn out. A couple of hours later, voila! The cut and color were gorgeous!! I went home and my hubby was smitten too! I told him I felt like me again! It's amazing what a great hair cut can do!! I searched google and yelp for different salons nearby UCSD, and Aveda seemed the best choice for me. The customer service was great from the beginning to end and I was able to get a same day appointment (5/15/12) with no hassle. The only downside that it was a bit pricey for me, but you definitely get what you pay for. My stylist was Tiffany and she was wonderful! She transformed my super long hair to a cute short shoulder cut. I made sure to talk to her about what I wanted with picture examples, any concerns I had, and asked for her feedback on which styles would fit me the best. She gave me something better than I could expect. Tiffany talked to me through the whole process making sure I was satisfied with each progression. She also styled/curled (for a small fee) my hair to the picture I shown her and gave me tips on how to do it at home. Tiffany also offers complimentary bang trims! I would definitely go back to Tiffany and Aveda for my future hair cuts. With any stylist, just make sure you communicate or show a picture of what you are looking for. read more

I go to this salon for pedicures and live by Sea World. Very clean and sanitary would describe Rosa's work space. I have tried many different salons and this is the best. Great selection of color and my feet/toes look great all the time. Rosa is very meticulous and loves what she does. WOW. The reviews were not exaggerating! First off, I came in for a cut and asked for a color and Olivia checked her schedule and made it happen. My hair was a mess, hacked by yours truly (I was too embarrassed to tell her that tho, lol) and then box colored with about 1/4" growth - I've had SO many terrible cuts that I started cutting my own a while back - I'm not the worst at it, and it really wasn't that bad for having a short blunt cut on my own head, but I digress... she took her time, made sure she knew what I wanted and worked some real live MAGIC. I swear she is a hair magician! She barely took any length and transformed my sloppy mop into a sleek style, I literally could not be happier, even the next morning I'm still glowing and snapping selfies. I figured since my very first review was about the Paul Mitchell School and how awful an experience it was, it would only be fair to review another salon that had a happy ending. I first want to say that everone is very friendly and the hairstylist I had really listened to what I wanted. After having my hair butchered back in December, I had anxiety about this appointment hours leading up to it. She did an amazing job on my hair and with the dry cutting method, it was the cleanest and most satisfying trim I have had since I am growing my hair out. I would recommend this salon to anyone and with it being open seven days a week, you never have any issues getting an appointment. I have been seeing CARLY Louden at this hip hair salon for several years now and I still look forward to seeing her every month! She really knows how to cut, color, and style my hair like no other! I feel like a million bucks when I leave, truly I do! Carly took the time to get to know me, my lifestyle, and what I could deal with in terms of hair maintenance. I like that she's fast, efficient, and extremely talented. I would recommend Carly for sure. The location of the salon is perfect, near freeways, UCSD, and the parking is not a problem. They sell make-up and products that I really like, especially the tinted lip balm that is easy to wear even when you go to the beach. The staff is all-around really nice and welcoming. Brenda, the one star was for your kind, empathetic response, and I hate to trash millennials, but this is so typical, I can imagine you hardly see anything wrong with your behavior. I know, you were brought up with the, "high self-esteem," method of parenting, which fortunately, I didn't think much of. I admit that I didn't study your website or menu, I just went to Yelp looking for places near my hotel and called, and yours was the first. I wasn't aware that new clients are expected to read and comprehend whatever is written on your website, and I was never asked to examine said website or sign an agreement regarding the details of your policies. I already have an excellent stylist, for more than ten years, and I also would trust any of the people who work with her if she is not available, as when she went on maternity leave. She has become like a friend, and it was touching to me to see how concerned she was about my health and the flood in my house. It seems that your representation of, "Young Attitudes," reflects the worst of young attitudes, especially a lack of any desire to improve your business performance based upon customer feedback. Sure, everything you did was right, and the customer is always wrong, and it is a favor to make any sort of adjustment, and you are so skilled at justifying yourself and lack any ability to understand the perception and experience of others. Resistant gray calls for no extra work, as I understand, just knowledge of what to do, which I received from my stylist, not from Fawn. I wasn't aware that two months of root growth required significantly more work and product (like the 1/2 a month hair tends to grow.) Millennials tend to be very talented at making excuses, but don't do so well in actually remedying their deficiencies, and sorry if this vocabulary is too difficult for those who can't focus for more than a minute or two. As with most sites on Yelp, many have a number of fake reviews, and some a preponderance of such, so I tend to look at negative reviews, which are far more informative. You also shouldn't highlight your excellent, luxurious massage, which doesn't exist. Generally, a hairdresser appointment is supposed to be a pleasant event, a time to relax, get away and leave in an improved state. I went somewhere else following my visit, and was shocked to look in the mirror and see how horrible my hair looked as it was flying all over the place in a mess, and my hair always looks good after I leave my home hairdresser, as she puts proper products and an adequate amount in my hair. As your salon claims to be so high-end and high-quality, I expected more than a place that is just high-end in price and snotty attitude. As your stylists claim such ability, maybe the end result should match? I did note Yelp negative reviews regarding cuts, and can't imagine I would trust a stranger with a cut, but you can't damage a touch-up too badly, and I washed my hair and put on the proper products and enough of them, and all is fine unless you look closely and see the hair pieces Fawn missed that she wanted $90 for. Sure, I am also aware that a new client without a request is given whoever is available, generally the newer, and perhaps less experienced or less sought after stylist. read more

NEVER GET YOUR HAIR CUT BY LINDSAY. I came in for my three month trim-- I'm trying to grow my hair out as long as I can-- and Lindsay had filled in for my usual hairdresser. I explained to her that I only wanted .25 inches off to keep it clean... Seems simple, right? Here I am now with a baseball cap on with my hair stuffed underneath because I now have LAYERS. Not like cute subtle layers, really substantial and bulky layers. My hair at its longest point is about to the middle of my back but at the shortest is now just below my ears. I am horrified. By now if I haven't convinced you enough of my horrifying experience, after Lindsay had seemly finished cutting and blow dried my hair, she said "Oh, I'm just going to clean it up a little bit." Hm. Okay, fine. She begins brushing my top layer of hair upwards so that it is above my head and in one second, I watched her cut 4 inches of my hair off. No time to stop it. I will not grow this hair back for likely years. For anyone that is looking for their hair to be cut in a specific way, do not see Lindsay. Okay, my hair is my ultimate signature. For some reason, I've been blessed with great hair; and having an amazing stylist makes my hair the best visible part of me. I am not trying to brag or anything, but the highlights that Carly Loudon gives me just makes my hair look like WOW! She always says it's 70% my genes... but hey, if she didn't do an amazing 30%, it would not look as head-turning as it does now. Of course, with the quarantine, it's looking like I'll be missing my appointment next month and I will have to handle my own root touch-up... but once the quarantine is lifted, Carly here I come! Okay, I also have to say that she has the best personality ever. If I have to spend 3 hours sitting on a chair, I am so lucky that I spend it with Carly. This place has gone downhill. My hair was ruined TWICE because the receptionists in the front did not book enough time for the treatment I was scheduled for. The first time, my stylist refused to lift the hair more and told me to come in more often, which I did twice, my hair still wasn't blond enough after the first time and appeared brassy. I came back again yesterday, to LIGHTEN MY HAIR and the same issue occurred--I was scheduled for 3 hours instead of 4. My hair is now DARKER instead of LIGHTER, and it's a dull, dark, greenish-copper-blond amalgam of incompetency. And just in time for summer! Yay! I will not be returning. read more

I gave this salon 1 star because of its customer service - in particular admin customer service. I had a great stylist, she did an awesome job and I'm super happy with my haircut. It was my first time at this salon. When I called to make a reservation I explicitly asked if I was supposed to print out the 1st time customer discount coupon or I could just show on my phone. I was told that showing it on the phone was fine. So when I was checking out I showed it to the admin. She said she needed a printed version. I told her about the conversation I had earlier. And I also added - "You don't really think I'd lie about this, right?". The admin's reaction was more like "Meh, I don't know". I don't appreciate being called - indirectly though - a liar. To be quite frank this not at all a kind of service I'd expect. I am a first time customer and there are many salons out there, so you'd probably want to do something to make me come back. I love taking care of my hair so I visit salons frequently, thus my long-term value as a customer is really high. It's sad that many organizations don't understand the importance of the first experience the customer gets. Personnel training is crucial since they are who customers face. Bottom line: I loved my hairdresser (Chardonnay), but - I'm not coming back, not after the admin girl assumed I'd lie for a discount. read more

I am not one to write reviews in regards to services provided to me, but this was a very traumatizing experience. I came to Young Attitudes Salon in November of 2021 to go from brown to platinum blonde, a service I knew would take time and money to achieve. As a finically independent college student, I saved up every bit of leftover money from work to pay for such a service and was very happy with the result after the first session. After 8 hours in the chair, my hair was blonde and had no breakage. I went back a second time 7 weeks later to get my roots touched up, and all went well then. Unfortunately, after my third bleach, I came home to try and brush my hair and found that a two-inch by two-inch section of my hair in the back of my head had broken off, leaving only 3 inches of hair left. My hair felt gummy and lacked any kind of natural feeling at all. I was heartbroken. After spending tons of money in the salon to achieve the color and money on products at home to keep my hair healthy, I was now left with utterly destroyed hair. As the weeks passed after my third bleach, my hair continued to break off and fall out, resulting in almost a third of my hair falling out. I attempted to strengthen my hair as much as possible in order to go in for a fourth bleach session, but the damage was far too severe. The stylist I am working with now is shocked at the state in which my hair was left, recommending I get a mullet on my hair that is not below my shoulders in order to hide the damage done. She also stated I should not put any type of chemicals on my hair for the next 5 YEARS due to the damage caused. I loved my hair blonde and would have kept it that way if it wasn't for the lack of due diligence your employee gave me. Now I am left spending even more money fixing the problem your stylist caused. So as a warning to others, do your research before choosing a stylist or salon. read more

I came here for a shampoo + blowdry the other day and did not read the Yelp reviews that advise asking for an experienced stylist - serves me right!! Correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like when people go in for a blowdry, they want soft, luscious hair with great body. I informed my stylist (I feel like her name was Theresa or something of the like) that I wanted a bit more volume up top - pretty standard request, I'm assuming. So it started off well - your average shampoo + blowdry...how hard can it be? But when she was finished, she immediately started to back comb the crown of my head. I looked in horror at what she was doing, but she assured me that it would be great. I trusted her (sigh), and when she was done, I had a tangled, course lump of hair at the top of my head. None of that flowing hair that you'd want from a blowdry. I was mortified and had to brush my hair immediately as I was walking to my car. It was truly the worst blowdry I've ever had and I seriously regret paying that much for it. read more

Jennifer is by far the best hair stylist I've ever been to! She is a master at high lights, toning, and haircuts, and I have very difficult long thick dark hair. I always wanted to get highlights but it never looked right given how dark brown my hair naturally is. But then I went to a Jennifer and she's done full blonde highlights mixed with light brown toner for the in between pieces and I've never gotten so many compliments in my life! I am extremely happy with the result and have been going to her for almost a year now, so if you experience the same issue as me or just want a great highlight and haircut definitely see Jennifer. read more

Zero stars for the hair salon. But the facial I got was great so five for the spa. The hair stylist is NOT AN AVEDA TRAINED STYLIST (I won't mention her name). I came out with my hair looking dull, dry and flat as a pancake. I have never had that in any Aveda salon around the country. My husband asked me "didn't you have a hair appointment today?" She took 45 minutes blow drying my hair, so lazy that she rested the hair dryer directly on the brush. She was obviously bored and not interested, looking around the salon. After my hair was dry, she parted my hair, angled the scissors down and cut my face framing layers in 30 seconds. And they just hang there, no bounce at all. Never before have I had anyone at an Aveda salon cut my layers on dry hair. read more

I've been going to this salon for a few years and have seen both Mae and Patrick. Both are very personable and very good at what they do. I feel like Mae is better at unstructured "do what is good for my hair and my low level maintenance" and Patrick is better at achieving a specific style. You can't go wrong with either of them. What I walk out with from the salon vs what I can achieve at home are two very different things, and this salon is FANTASTIC at scheduling touch ups if I'm not 100% happy with the at home results. My daughter, husband, and I all go to Aveda Young Attitudes for the service, professionalism, and convenience. Brenda, Lacy, Allan, and Allison are amazing. I pay a little bit more for Allan, but my daughter and husband go to Lacy or whoever is available. None of us over the past 10 years we have gone there have had bad service nor a bad cut/style. When I went in with a friend to have him film the cutting of 10 inches for a friend who had cancer they were so accommodating. Brenda and her front staff crew always offer us this amazing tea that Aveda sells and though I use their products, I never feel like I am being sold anything. They understandably go through estheticians regularly, but they always seem to find nice people who utilize the well kept place. The look and feel of the salon is always top notch and I even have the staff on my Christmas list cause they are like family to us now. The parking lot can sometimes be a mess because they share it with Whole Foods, but there is always a spot in back with no problem. Oh, and if you are going to be late, just call. Love my new look. Not crazy about the fact that it cost me $250 just to get highlights done :-( The stylists I worked with are GREAT. BUT, every time I get my highlights done, they apply a toner without asking me first. This results in a $50 surcharge, every singLE time. You'd think I'd remember to ask them to give me a warning! Overall, I would give this place 4+ stars if I wasn't stuck with such a high bill every time. I do think it's unreasonable to charge $220 for highlights (and this is before tips) and not warn the customer about the charge ahead of time. I also think they use the toner just to rack up fees because none of the other stylists who highlighted my hair before used it. read more

Niviana is superb! The best stylist I have found (and I've searched!) since moving from UK 13 years ago. I get compliments frequently on my hair, it is easy to manage and stays in shape between cuts.
