I had a really bad haircut from the guy named phil or bill I cannot remember. The worst cut I've ever gotten, involving really bad segmented bangs. At the register I complained and another stylist name Lacy helped correct it a bit, but its hard to cover two segmented shelves. Lacy seemed to really know what she was doing and gave me tips for wearing it another way, so that was nice. I had a conditioning treatment and a cut, and they comp-ed the cut after she tried to fix it, which was nice, but I'll never go back. read more

I have followed my esthetician, IRIS MATA over to Young Attitudes! The place is super inviting and in a great location! You can easily go get your hair/Facial/Waxing and then get a coffee next door! First of all, Iris is an incredibly sweet Lady! From the minute you arrive she makes you feel incredibly comfortable! You can tell that she truly loves her job. It's her passion. I have been to people who seem to rush through the service and so I can say that Iris really does take her time to make sure you are perfectly happy. She gives an incredible Facial (both relaxing and for treatments) I also get my brows done by her and not only do they look great, but they seem to last a long time! I just got my hair cut here today and it looks fabulous! My stylist, Tiffany, is a hair genius! I have super thick hair so it can end up looking totally disastrous in the wrong hands, but she worked her magic and thinned out my monstrous mane to total perfection. I came in with long hair wanting something shorter, but I told her that I hadn't been able to find any pics of what I wanted. She asked me if I had seen Jennifer Aniston's new haircut which she just debuted today, and it was perfect! I was trying to grow out a pixie cut, and it finally got to the mullet stage. So I looked at the salons close that were close to UCSD and I'm so glad I chose Young Attitudes. It's right in the CVS plaza, so for students you can just take the 201 from campus or even walk to the salon from Gilman. I called them at noon and they were able to pencil me in at 2:30 the same day. Since it was a mullet, the bottom of my neck was touching my shoulder while the top half of my hair barely reached my ears. Phoung was able to help me cut and style my mullet into a great bob. Hopefully, I'll be able to continue growing out my hair, but will definitely come back for trims and haircuts in the future. Definitely recommend for everyone to give it a try! I called to ask how much they charge for someone who has short hair and they said they charge based on your gender. Wtf! I wear my super short and it takes only 15mins to get my hair cleaned up. I do a number 2 with hair clippers. So the lady proceeds to tell me women's hair takes longer. Ummmm how do the hair clippers know the difference between a mans hair and a woman's hair? And what if I'm gender queer and don't want to be forced to pick a gender? So you are blatantly violating my rights as someone who is gender queer and choosing my gender for me based on a hair cut? Wow way to be inclusive. Absolutely outright gender discrimination by charging me more for a hair cut just because of my gender. So if I look like a female but told you I'm a male would you all then give me the men's price for a haircut? You should be charging based on length of the hair NOT on gender! Catch up with decade please! I'll just stick to going to North Park to get my hair cut because at least they are inclusive and only charge based on length. read more

I'm always trying to find reasonably priced spa treatments and at this location facials are at a decent price. HOWEVER, it's painful! Granted the esthetician let me know she does more aggressive extracting, but GEEZ! In the end my face felt clean but it was RED! So ok, I figured the redness would go away after a couple of hours and thank goodness I wasn't going anywhere after that. Unfortunately it didn't and the next day at work, my co worker asked me how it was and all I had to do was point out the scabs and red spots on my face where the extractions were done. It was like I went and did it myself! Yes the foot massage before the facial was great and the price was decent, but in the end just wasted money. read more

I moved here last year and chose this place because I'd had good experiences with Aveda salons in the past. The salon is located in a large plaza (CVS, Whole Foods, banks, etc.), so there is ample parking and you can run other errands while you're there. The shop itself is laid out well, with large product displays (cosmestics, hair care) in the front and the salon area in back. Like any review for a salon, this review is related more to a specific stylist than to the business as a whole. I go to Carly and she's great. She does an awesome job with my highlights... I've been to her 4 times so far and have left totally satisfied each time. She's low-key, sweet, and pleasant to chat with. I also appreciate that she doesn't do the upsell or pressure you to buy products. If you want products, of course she is very knowledgeable and will guide towards what you need, but she doesn't do that awkward forced-feeling sales pitch that some stylists do. read more

She was lively, funny, Latina (like myself), curly (like myself), and very professional. It's been years since I've had short hair, and she made me feel very updated. I have been going here for 6 years and have bounced around to different stylists. Generally positive experiences, but- I recently found Carly, and she is perhaps the best thing that has ever happened to my hair!! I am so impressed with her expertise and sincere thought she puts into the color and style. I often find that stylists either don't have the experience or the guts to be honest and give a good recommendation. Not with her! I have been coloring my hair since I was sixteen, I have never trusted someone more to give me honest advice about the color and cut. She is so knowledgeable about all different hair types and the best products for them. Since going to her, I have never received more compliments on my hair. The salon in general also get a big thumbs up from me. The staff is friendly and accommodating, the salon is always clean, and the aesthetic is nicely minimalist. Although I have started booking well in advance, I love that if you need something last minute, they have enough people on staff to squeeze you in. read more

I LOVE this salon! The stylists are talented, and very genuine. I didn't have to wait long for a stylist, (I was a walk-in) and I definitely showed up with a project, lol. I hadn't been to the salon in months, so I had split ends, and grown out highlights, but on top of that, I had old box dye in my hair with a little bit of new growth coming in too. So that's basically 3 different roots that Tiffany had to blend and weave together! She did an AMAZING job, and foiled with the natural fall of my curly hair, like no other stylist has done before. Everybody was so nice, and you definitely felt like you could be hanging out with your friends. Nick joined in on my cut, and Erica did my make-up. I recently moved from New York to San Diego and I needed to find a new hair stylist. In New York I had been going to the same hair stylist for 8 years (since I have been getting color in my hair). Needless to say I am extremely picky of who does my hair! When I was looking for a new salon to go to, a friend recommended I try Young Attitudes in La Jolla. I called to make an appointment and a girl, Megan, had an opening so I took it. I went into the appointment with high nerves, and I can say with confidence I sure was wrong! Right from the start Megan greeted me with a warm smile and made me feel so comfortable. She listened to what I have been getting done, and was understanding of my concerns! After the processing and a wash, the cut was perfect. Walking out of the salon I felt like a million bucks! If you ever need a new stylist who is easy to talk, knows color, and makes your hair look great...Megan's your girl! The salon is very cute and the location is convenient. Parking is never a problem. I've been struggling for years to find a hair dresser I've been really happy with, but Patrick was absolutely amazing!!! I've finally found someone I fully trust! I never felt rushed, he took a good 10 minutes discussing what I should do, was so easy to talk to, had great restaurant recommendations (I tried one right after getting my hair done), and most importantly my hair looks amaaazzzingg! I had a mani/pedi appointment that I was really looking forward to and when the day of the appointment came it turned out that my appointment had never made it into the system leaving me without appointment at all. No effort was made to accommodate me and my situation. The manicurist at this salon is terrific (Rosa), but surviving the incompetence of the reception desk certainly does over shadow Rosa's wonderful services. read more

the worst salon i have ever been too. Katie was my stylist. She's new to the store. I told her i wanted neutral highlight colors that would look natural on my hair and give me a refreshing highlight. The highlight she gives me are streaks of obnexious extreme color. I told her I didn't like anything that has red pigment on it. I wanted a ashy chestnut color. She gave me an orangegy blond streaks. She keeps on saying "its soo prettty" so it kind of convinced me to leave that place not that grumpy. When i got home, I was just miserable with my result. My family , friends, and boyfriend say that it does not look good one me at all. The total cost me out to be 170 dollars but the result is just horrendous. Now I have to go elsewhere to have my hair recolor again due to the poor result . read more

When I moved to San Diego more than a couple of years ago, I was looking for an Aveda salon since my experience with the franchise was very satisfactory anywhere I went. With Young attitudes I was very pleased for the cordial reception, front desk took the time to know me by name after the second visit, and the stylists were cordial and professional. I am not very organized to make appointments and was usually requesting on the same day whomever may be available and never really dissatisfied with anyone. As I kept visiting I was assigned this young though very professional lady, named Megan who was very attentive, listened to my requests and making sure my experience was satisfactory. It has been more than 18 months ago since then now I am certain to make my by-weekly haircut appointments only with Megan. To me has been a pleasant experience to become a regular customer at Young Attitudes. I travel frequently and prefer to wait to have my hair done for someone that knows what I want and treats you friendly and respectfully and at a very reasonable price. read more

Absolutely loved my haircut and stylist. I have never been to the salon before. I went from long hair to medium length with Cynthia, and she absolutely transformed my heavy, thick hair to lightweight perfect beach hair. She is extremely knowledgeable (she teaches a class on hair and hair treatments). Furthermore, i showed her a picture that was my "dream hairstyle," even saying that I knew it wasn't possible because of the thick hair mess I had, and she MADE it possible. Aveda Salon in La Jolla, is by far the nicest nail salon I have been to in a very long time. They use natural products that don't have that horrible chemical smell indicative of most nail salons. My manicure and pedicure lasted for 3 weeks! I will definitely be a repeat customer. read more

I like Aveda product and made an appointment to do a deep conditioning treatment around 4:30 on Friday. Due to traffic and parking I got in around 4:40. They told me they gave the appointment to someone else without calling me to reschedule or notify. They could have told me about their policy when I made the appointment. I would have avoided crazy traffic hours. This is my first time trying and last time ever visit this place. There are other salons with better customer service. read more

I've been going to this place since 2009 so this review is long overdue. Personally I think this place is phenomenal. In four years going there I haven't ever had a bad experience and everyone (both receptionists and stylists) are very kind, accommodating, and personable. Last time I left extra change in the store and they made sure to call me to let me know so I could pick it up (and gave me a reminder call the next evening after I had clearly forgotten to pick it up). Some reviews talk about rude service but from personal experience and generally what I've seen while waiting for my haircut I can't see how it's possible. If anything it's likely the reviewers who have the issue themselves and not the staff. I've seen some of the clients that go in there and they act like the room should be kissing their feet simply because they're breathing the same air. Now I'm a guy so I don't know how much clout my review about haircuts has but I don't think you can go wrong with any stylist working on your hair. I used to go to Tommy when I first started there but after he moved to Texas ~2.5 years ago I've bounced around from stylist to stylist. Every single one of them did a great job and had me walking out the door incredibly pleased with the results (not an easy task since I just sit down and tell them to do whatever looks good since I'm clueless about these things). Though everyone has been phenomenal, I have to recommend Cara above everyone for several reasons. First and foremost she's excellent at cutting hair. She clearly knows her stuff, go through the process flawlessly, and really takes her time to make sure that everything is done correctly (she cuts small bits at a time to make sure she doesn't go too far which is obviously irreversible and she takes brief pauses to step back and look at the overall progress). In addition to being good at her job she's also one of the nicest, funniest, and coolest stylists I've ever had cut my hair. Every conversation I have with her is a joy and her personality makes the entire visit enjoyable. I find the hair wash an incredibly awkward part of the haircut but she finds a way to take my mind off of it. But most importantly you can just tell she cares. She cares that her work is perfect and she cares about who you are and how you're doing as a person. Everyone in the salon is like that but Cara always seems to remember the small things. Let me put it this way- I don't even live in San Diego anymore but I still only go to Cara for my haircuts. read more

Go see Olivia!!! I recently had my hair cut and colored here by Olivia and she did an amazing job! I went in to have my hair dyed back to my natural color. I had dyed my hair blonder early in the summer and my dirty blonde roots were coming out. I know matching hair color is not an exact science but she did an amazing job transitioning my hair back to its natural color! It has already started to grow out and you cannot tell the difference between my dyed hair and my roots! Because my hair is dirty blonde this is normally a struggle for the stylist to make it look natural again because it has different shades throughout, but she nailed it! My cut is pretty basic but a lot of times the stylist doesn't get it exactly how I want or cuts off too much. She is super friendly and actually listens and cares about making your hair exactly how you want it! Both my cut and color came out exactly how I envisioned them! I highly recommend her if you are looking for someone to cut or color your hair! read more

My first visit to Young Attitudes was about 3 weeks ago, and I'm still getting compliments on my hair! Fawn was highly recommended by a friend who is loyal to her "dry cutting" method. I wasn't sure if this method would work for my thick, naturally wavy hair, but decided to give it a shot. Fawn took the time to listen to what I didn't like about my current haircut. She asked many questions from how much time I usually spend on my hair to what I didn't like about my current haircut. I can now wash my hair, let it dry naturally after putting a little coconut oil on the ends (recommended by Fawn) and it looks great!!! Thank you Fawn for the great new look! read more

I had high hopes for this place given that it had such great reviews. The people were nice, the salon was clean, it was easy to make an appointment but the hair cut was horrible! I have curly hair and when I booked the appointment, I asked for someone who had experience cutting this type of hair--I didn't mind paying extra at all. Not only did the person not know how to cut my hair, she butchered it! It's been a month now that I've gotten a haircut there and people are still asking me what happened to my curls! The stylist didn't even talk to me about how to take care of my hair (like an Aveda trained person should). She didn't even use the Aveda products meant for curly hair on me. At the end of the haircut, she asked if I needed any products in my hair and when I told her that most people with curly hair do (and that yes, I would like some), she told me to apply it myself! Not once did I give her any attitude so I was surprised by her reaction ... it just seemed like she was in a hurry to get me out of there. I was so shocked by my experience. If you have curly hair, this is probably not the place for you to go to! My husband also went there for a hair cut--his hair cut is pretty straight forward to cut (short and straight)--and it was a pretty bad cut too. His sideburns were uneven and it seemed like a section of his hair had not been cut! Although we were both upset by our experience at Young Attiudes, we can now laugh at each other's bad hair cuts ... unfortunately, my hair will take longer to grow out than his. I found a nice collection of hats to wear until that happens! read more

short haired girls beware! it was my first time at Young Attitudes. I had called to make an appointment and asked if anyone specialized in cutting short hair. I ended up with Mae, who had fun, curly hair herself, but she unfortunately did a quick, messy job. it started with an amazing complimentary shoulder/neck massage. I should have stopped her when she began hacking away with a razor (which I know I hate!), and it seemed like she was using it just to avoid the work that's required with shears. it was a quick cut (1/2 hour tops) and I left with an awful almost-bald spot near my neck (my hair is sort of natalie portman style short). luckily I didn't have her cut much of the front, so I'll just be wearing a head scarf for the next couple weeks. hair grows back, so I'll survive, but certainly wouldn't recommend Mae. I plan to have one of the senior stylists try to fix it next week when it grows in a bit. if my next experience isn't good, I guess I'll have to fly home to Boston for my next haircut! read more

I've been going to the same stylist for the past 10 years up in O.C. When I moved down to S.D. I tried out a few different salons and was never really happy with the stylists. This is my 2nd time with Codie and I think she is amazing! Codie doesn't talk a lot, which is fine by me. I prefer my stylist to focus on my hair rather than make small talk! I leave the salon with a fantastic cut and style. And they don't push their product on you, like at other salons. I've found my new hairstylist and couldn't be any happier. BTW, haircuts at Young Attitudes is so reasonable in comparison to other Aveda salons. read more
