Let's start with the customer service the guy who was working there was nice, he helped me pick out my meal since it was my first time there. I got a French toast platter & shrimp n grits. My total came up to around 25. The best thing on the plate was the french toast everything else was 8/10 but that french toast 10/10. The shrimp and grits were okay the grits itself lacked flavor but the shrimp was good.

Mannn. This is the definition of a HOLE IN THE WALL spot, you would never think it would have torch eats like this just passing by it but man... greatness right here, this was my first time and I came for brunch with my brother, we both got some safe options and they did not disappoint. We broke both eats down, and the bacon and chicken were fried and crunch to perfection, soft waffles and French toast was immaculate

I haven't been here in a whileeee but whenever I'm in the area it's my go-to place!!! ... I was craving salmon and grits so that's what I got!! It was the right portions left you feeling hefty and full !!! I added hot sauce and ketchup of course made some toast when I got home . The guy is always pleasant and make sure your order is correct if not he'll fix it pronto so I appre the customer service and the fact it's chairs to sit to wait for your order if you like so definitely skip ihop/McDonald's and come here for real quality food and if your pockets aren't pricey on the day you need it to be

We were looking for a quick breakfast spot that had waffles. Scrapple sandwich was made perfectly. The bacon and hash browns were good. Ordered corned beef hash well done, and it was sooooooooo yummy (but a bit pricey for a side $5.25). Guy running the register was nice and patient (and was knocking the orders out back to back). Great local spot to get breakfast and lunch

OMG! The shrimp n grits AMAZING! The waffles soft and buttery. My first time here definitely won't be the last.

I come here almost every other week. Same 1-2 orders. Anything I want , they can accommodate. Customer service is more than excellent. Food is always done in under 15 minutes. I can't complain about this place if I tried. Breakfast is ALL DAY. You know how hard it is to find that ?!! Let alone a Carryout spot in MD that everything is just great ? I will forever be coming here.

This spot is almost a hole in the wall but the food and service has never disappointed me. It reminds me of a downtown city deli but "the one" where everyone knows the food is more tasty. Each time I've gotten breakfast from here, it always tastes and feels homemade, like from Grandma's house. I've only patronized here about 3 or 4 times and "Yum" is all I can say. I'm glad they're open on Saturday mornings for a good home-cooked breakfast (with great options, btw)... maybe when you just don't feel like cooking.

Carry out & plate I ordered

Found this carry out spot on google trying to find breakfast on my errands in a new area where I don't usually shop . ( I was at Burlington ) They said "we have best grits" and I can say the grits are the bomb !!! I got the salmon & grits yummmm! I will be back

My wife and I were hungry and wanted to go somewhere in the neighborhood. We heard about His & Hers…read moreand decided to stop by. We walked in on a Saturday afternoon and it was completely empty. The cook was sitting at one of the tables and the waitress was behind the bar (they don't serve alcohol) hoping someone would come in. There is an upstairs and a downstairs. We did not go downstairs but I'm assuming there are plenty of seats like upstairs. We ordered the hangry breakfast, which came with French toast, eggs and potatoes, the salmon burger and the chicken & waffles. It's a good thing we ordered so much becaus the chicken and waffles only comes with 4 wingettes. We ordered water but were told they were out of ice. Instead my wife ordered a $4 CANNED SODA because that is the only thing they had cold. $4 for a can is insane by the way. Since we were the only ones in the establishment we expected the food to come quickly but that seemed to take 20-25 minutes as well. Our food eventually arrived. The French toast was good. Flavorful but small. Sandwhich bag slices of bread. The potatoes were clearly from the Walmart frozen foot section. The eggs were ok. My wife's waffle was cool however the chicken was BLAND and SEASONLESS. We didn't even finish them. For $18 I expected more. The salmon burger was by far the best thing there. A thick cut of salmon that was flavorful. We should have gotten two of those. The waitress was nice. The food is overpriced. I should have known when we walked in and the place was empty. Not sure how they stay open having brunch without alcohol but to each is own. One and done for me as a neighborhood guy. The food isn't great and the prices are high. No reason to return.

They don't have typical bacon or sausage because "the owners don't eat pork" which really sounds like something more appropriate for their house, and not their restaurant business on Rhode island ave. The "chicken sausage" was a shriveled up piece of chicken paste that they cooked in the microwave. I ordered scrambled eggs, and when they came out, they had that crust that scrambled eggs get when they sit out after being cooked. The grits were lumpy and outside of the cheese sauce they put on the top - had no flavor. The French toast tasted like milk eggs and burnt grill. And the pancakes, were very obviously pre made and microwaved. Additionally - the meal I ordered is listed to come with a bread, eggs, a side and a meat. I asked for bacon, and was told the owners don't eat pork. I asked for the chicken sausage.. 5 minutes later the server asked me if I wanted the sausage spicy or not. Then when she brought the bill, there was a $4 up charge for spicy sausage that she neither told me, nor was it on the menu. And to make matters worse - the sausages were not spicy and were actually just flat out nasty. This is a SAD excuse for a restaurant. I'm sad that I spent calories walking there and dollars eating there.

While I would return,…read morethe experience highlighted some service fundamentals that I hope management will consider addressing through additional training. We waited approximately 20 minutes to be seated, which was understandable during a busy lunch period. However, once seated, we waited another 15 minutes or so without being greeted or offered water. Having worked in food service myself, I believe one of the simplest ways to acknowledge guests is to touch the table quickly, even if the server is busy. A greeting and water communicate, "We see you, and we'll be with you shortly." This is especially important during the summer when guests may have already been waiting outside or in a crowded lobby. When we eventually asked for water, the response was essentially, "Oh, you wanted water?" That surprised me. Water should not feel like a special request at a full-service restaurant. Because of the delay, we placed most of our order at once. Unfortunately, nearly everything then arrived at once too: water, appetizers, cocktails, non-alcoholic beverages, and other items. I had intentionally ordered two different drinks expecting to enjoy them at different points during the meal, but instead found myself with three beverages and food all competing for attention at the same time. Nothing about the server was rude. In fact, she was very sweet and pleasant, which is important to acknowledge. My concern is more about training, pacing, and attentiveness. A restaurant meal should feel like an experience, not simply an order being delivered to the table all at once. I was also surprised to see the suggested gratuity begin at 20%. I have no issue tipping well for good service, but when a restaurant prominently suggests that level of gratuity, I believe the service standards should consistently reflect it. Guests should feel cared for rather than feeling that a tip is expected regardless of the experience provided. Ultimately, I packed much of my meal and left sooner than anticipated. The food and overall concept are enough that I would absolutely give this location another opportunity, but the hospitality needs refinement. This review isn't intended to criticize one individual server. I hope management sees it as constructive feedback and an opportunity to reinforce some of the fundamentals: acknowledge the table, offer water promptly, communicate when there is a delay, and properly pace food and beverages. Sometimes the smallest hospitality touches make the biggest difference. I'd love to see this location get those details right.

I ordered the Mexican Caesar salad with salmon, and it was absolutely delicious. For appetizers, we shared the wings and truffle fries, and neither disappointed. Everything we ordered was flavorful, well-prepared, and beautifully presented. We had red velvet cake for dessert, served with strawberry ice cream. Those flavors paired well together and were a surprisingly delicious combination. It was the perfect way to end the meal. Service was good as well. There was no outdoor seating available, which looked like a great option for enjoying the scenery. We sat inside but stepped out onto the balcony to take pictures and take in the incredible views of Washington, D.C., and the Capitol. There's no smoke and mirrors here--the city views are stunning from here. The view alone makes this place worth a visit. While it is on the pricier side, the combination of great food, excellent atmosphere, and breathtaking scenery makes it well worth the cost. I would definitely recommend Smoke & Mirrors for a special night out and look forward to returning.

It's the kind of place that should be a reliable go-to for a group looking to catch sunset drinks before dinner. We made a reservation for eight, which turned out to be completely unnecessary given how empty it was when we arrived. After getting seated, 15 minutes passed without a single server coming by. Not a water drop, not an acknowledgment, nothing. A few of us eventually walked up to the host stand and asked if we could just order drinks at the bar while we caught the last of the sunset on the patio. Even that took far longer than it should have. This isn't a packed Friday night situation where you chalk it up to volume. The place was largely empty. The bar was slow regardless. We made it back to the table. Another 15 minutes before anyone came by to offer water or take drink orders. At that point, we looked at the limited snack menu, decided dinner was happening elsewhere, and let the host know we were leaving. The one server who did eventually stop by apologized and volunteered that the bar was just slow to get drinks out. At least someone said it out loud. The number of empty tables confirmed that plenty of other people had already figured this out on their own. The setting here is genuinely good. The views are real, the space is well-designed, and there's no reason this shouldn't work. But the service infrastructure clearly can't support even a moderately sized group on a slow night, which is a significant problem for a place marketing itself as an events and reservations venue. You can't charge Navy Yard prices and run a bar that moves at this pace. Wouldn't go back unless something has visibly changed.
