Amazing experience in a hidden gem of Deanwood! The cook was authentic and you watched him grill you order - our waitress is just the friendly face you want to talk to behind the corner and I think it was Mary! get out of homogeneous arlington and support your community and small business owners!

Perfectly cooked eggs over medium with corned beef hash. And those grits!! Yum!

Believe the positive reviews and ignore the dubious exterior. This place is legit. Been there for 50 years (!) and serving a solid diner style breakfast. They do not accept credit cards - so that's something to note as there's nary an ATM closeby. It's so much better than any options in the area and they are super nice and friendly as well! I'll definitely be back - I'd love to try their smothered pork chop special!

A group of friends and I went to the Deanwood area for a fun day of exploration, complete without doing any research or Yelping before we arrived. After departing the Deanwood Metro we walked across the street to the Community Center where we were given the recommendation of Mary's Place, and there we went! Location - This place is missable if you don't know where you are going. If you are near the highway, you're almost there since this restaurant runs parallel. Food - Breakfast diner food. Get a country fried steak with potatoes for ~$7, or french toast with eggs and sausage ~$9. Other items include pancakes, cheeseburgers and other sandwiches, corn bread, and beans & rice. CA$H ONLY!!! Space - Sit up at the counter or there are two small tables that may fit four people squished. Not too big but it does the job. You can tell it's a local place, which only adds to its charm! If that doesn't do it, you'll get a joy reading the words of wisdom on the walls or looking at the photos inside. Staff - Susie and the team are great, friendly, and quick with the food! The grill is right in front of the counter and you can see them whipping up the food like ninjas. Overall, awesome local Deanwood experience for all to witness and enjoy. As Susie says, "woo hoooo!"

Here from the West Coast for a wedding. Stumbled upon this place. Was first a little apprehensive. Will there was no reason for it. The breakfast was odd the chart delish. Felt right at home with the regulars. Will be back before we leave.

The Tikka dish with fried egg was tasty, but wish paneer or larger protein option was built-in (not an upcharge)! The creamy red Tikka curry sauce, caramelized onions, crispy brussel sprouts, and fried ere tasty and paired well, the dish felt incomplete and something was missing, maybe some paneer or naan? I paid $5 for a side of zesty naan topped with different spices and really wish it came with the dish just came with it. While I was tempted to order the falafel, I couldn't justify shelling out another $5 for another upcharge and spend $10 on them for a total of $26 for just an entree - when these 2 upcharges should have been included in the entree by default. Wish there were more fun vegetarian dishes on the menu. Might come back for drinks and to explore the menu!

Gone are the blue walls and no more of the carry out feel. I remember this place had some of best bacon but you can tell the quality of food has gone out the window. I walked in and was greeted by a guy taking orders. His customer service skills were good. That was the only reason for the 2 stars. I ordered the wings and waffle, Belgian waffle and breakfast platter along with 2 drinks for $42 bucks. Not too bad. We sat at a table and the food came. Once again, the guy at the counter was great. He made sure to bring over our waffles while they were hot. That was the only part of the food that was good/decent, hence the second star. The rest is poor quality and belongs in the trash. The eggs were not real and god awful. The 8 wingettes came straight out of a freezer bag/ air fryer. TRASH. The bacon was fresh out of the microwave. I'll never ever come back. The food is that bad. If there was anyone standing outside needing food I would have happily given it to them. This place has fallen off a cliff hence the empty parking lot. It is a hard no for me.

I go inside and I decide to get some sort of big breakfast platter... it came with pancakes, eggs I got scrambled with cheese, scrapple, sausage and a side of cheese grits. This is more like a mom and pop type shop, nothing really appealing. I guess they more so let their food do the promoting which is cool, some places don't need a grass wall. The service was basic carryout in the hood type of service. A loud Asian lady with a couple of cooks in the back. And the ambience was just carryout in the hood status. Nothing really special. Now the prices were pretty decent no complaints there, but the food was not great to me, but the grits were really creamy. Even after they had sat for a little while they didn't thicken up. They remained creamy the entire time so I guess that was a plus but I didn't eat them because they didn't taste that good and I would have to do too much seasoning to get them to have any flavor. So that's to say I would not return.

From the outside, it has that classic, full-fledged American diner look and once you walk in, it absolutely delivers on that vibe. The place is clean, welcoming, and has a really nice atmosphere. As soon as we entered, the greeter was friendly and quickly got us seated in a booth. The staff overall was very welcoming and attentive throughout our visit, which made the experience even better. The menu has a ton of options, so there's something for everyone. For our meal, we ordered the French toast and the shrimp and grits, and for an appetizer, we tried the spinach rolls which were honestly fantastic and a standout item. Everything we had was flavorful and satisfying. There was a small mix-up with my drink, I ordered orange juice but received apple juice instead but it wasn't a big deal, and everything else came out great. The diner also offers a variety of beverages, including alcoholic options, coffee, hot chocolate, and more, though we stuck with breakfast drinks this time. Pricing can be a bit on the higher side depending on what you order. For two people, our breakfast came out to around $68, but considering the quality of the food, service, and overall experience, it felt worth it. Overall, we had a great time and really enjoyed our breakfast here. Between the atmosphere, the food, and the friendly staff, I'd definitely come back again. 4 out of 5 stars!

I visited Silver Diner in Glenarden for lunch this past Sunday with a friend. While I would return,…read morethe experience highlighted some service fundamentals that I hope management will consider addressing through additional training. We waited approximately 20 minutes to be seated, which was understandable during a busy lunch period. However, once seated, we waited another 15 minutes or so without being greeted or offered water. Having worked in food service myself, I believe one of the simplest ways to acknowledge guests is to touch the table quickly, even if the server is busy. A greeting and water communicate, "We see you, and we'll be with you shortly." This is especially important during the summer when guests may have already been waiting outside or in a crowded lobby. When we eventually asked for water, the response was essentially, "Oh, you wanted water?" That surprised me. Water should not feel like a special request at a full-service restaurant. Because of the delay, we placed most of our order at once. Unfortunately, nearly everything then arrived at once too: water, appetizers, cocktails, non-alcoholic beverages, and other items. I had intentionally ordered two different drinks expecting to enjoy them at different points during the meal, but instead found myself with three beverages and food all competing for attention at the same time. Nothing about the server was rude. In fact, she was very sweet and pleasant, which is important to acknowledge. My concern is more about training, pacing, and attentiveness. A restaurant meal should feel like an experience, not simply an order being delivered to the table all at once. I was also surprised to see the suggested gratuity begin at 20%. I have no issue tipping well for good service, but when a restaurant prominently suggests that level of gratuity, I believe the service standards should consistently reflect it. Guests should feel cared for rather than feeling that a tip is expected regardless of the experience provided. Ultimately, I packed much of my meal and left sooner than anticipated. The food and overall concept are enough that I would absolutely give this location another opportunity, but the hospitality needs refinement. This review isn't intended to criticize one individual server. I hope management sees it as constructive feedback and an opportunity to reinforce some of the fundamentals: acknowledge the table, offer water promptly, communicate when there is a delay, and properly pace food and beverages. Sometimes the smallest hospitality touches make the biggest difference. I'd love to see this location get those details right.
