I have been using Jan's pet sitting services since 2009 when I went back to work and needed some help with potty breaks and safety checks for my 3 dogs while away at work all day. I was very apprehensive when I learned I'd have to be away from home each day as to date no one besides myself had ever cared for my babies. Pet sitting service provided from 10-4-2013 through 10-09-2013: 45 Days from the day of departure I asked for the same service I received on my 1st trip,but for 6-7 days/nights. Coordination and confirmation of the trip took a long time and multiple follow-up e-mails. It took almost a month to get the schedule, which was very frustrating. Service provided while I was gone was pretty much the same as my 1st trip. My 13 year old girl displayed anxiety on 2 occasions.Separation anxiety is hard for any dog, but harder on an older dog I think, which is part of the special needs, and why I ask and pay for day and night care. Mileage costs increased significantly over the 1st time and were calculated differently. Some care instructions were not followed. I prepared and sent Jan new instructions for both dogs in e-mail. I went into detail regarding medication and food amounts. I asked if she had any questions. She asked if I was going to give the dogs their pre breakfast meds before I leave but my instructions hadn't listed any pre breakfast meds. Jan wanted to use the alarm app for her phone. We were able to get that to work the day prior to my departure. The printed invoice was on the table listing the over night stays 10-4 through 10-08, 6 pm-6 am, and the day charge for 10-4 through 10-09, plus the daily RT mileage. The fee for staying until I arrived home was added and the total re calculated. No daily logs were prepared but the day after my return I received the recap. There were discrepancies between my instructions and what was actually done. My dogs were to be supervised in the yard, but her recap said the sliding door was left open to allow the dogs free access to the yard the whole time she was there. The alarm sensors confirm and show it was open most the day and closed as late 11 pm. I had previously explained my old girl has environment allergies and should not be outside that much and that my old boy eats the landscape wood chips, which he isn't allowed and that there is a gnarly possum that visits the back yard and I don't want them to meet! One night the alarm wasn't armed at all. The house alarm entries confirm, on 5 October, during a charged over night stay,(12 hours consecutive according to my contract and invoice), Jan left for an hour. It was never mentioned to me at all. On 10 October, I sent an email asking if she left that evening. She responded on 11 October that yes, in fact she did leave for an hour to go provide service to a client in Tracy for their dog. That means two clients were charged for the same amount of time. Due to anxiety my 13 year old girl had displayed, I asked for Jan to stay until I got home, about 1 1/2 hours. The additional hour charge was added to my invoice. On 11 October. I sent an email indicating payment was made. I expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that she didn't communicate to me that she left during the overnight time I was charged for. In the same e-mail I told her I was mostly happy about the care she provided my dogs and was hoping to make another small trip. Knowing she is a professional, I thought she would respond to my email, discuss the issues, offer to make it right, or at least provide some sort of customer service. There was no response to my e-mail at all. A letter was sent to my house, dated 12 October, indicating that due to "logistics" she was unable to provide any further pet sitting service. I do agree, logistics makes it impossible to be in 2 places at once.I didn't receive the letter until 16 October, at which time I had to call her to get my keys and garage door remote returned. She brought them right over. I don't like to give less than satisfactory reviews and a couple of weeks ago would never have believed I would be now. This time service did not provide peace of mind. What was discovered after my return raised trust issues that no one should have when hiring a pet sitter for care of their beloved pets, in their own home.
