A little context: Originally Sears was out (yes, they still exist). Having repaired a few refrigerators, garage doors and operator control boards myself over the years, I knew things weren't right with these Sears guys (yes, plural -- well, one in training, poor sod). They weren't dishonest, really, just excessive. Especially with cost (...pretty obviously constrained by dinosaur policy -- what felt geared towards getting a fleeced customer to buy a new appliance from Sears). The Sears guys estimated a four-figure two-man project, including for two off-the-shelf generic machine screws, $37 each, parts only. (Still had to pay them for coming out.) Bless their little hearts. I can see how people get bamboozed by this blue-shirted Sears "professionalism". Hearing good things, I contacted Daniil. And in a little more than a day, paid an eighth of the price for way more, better, no-nonsense, good natured, in-and-out service. With warranty. I received a call back Monday at 8 a.m. Rick came out Wednesday on time at 8 a.m. I had received a text the night before confirming the appointment, and a text that morning that the tech was on his way. I like that! Rick diagnosed the problem, he ordered the parts, and I paid the service fee by check. Following the same procedure, he and Mike arrived at 8 a.m. the next Monday and installed the parts. Then they checked the circuit board. Nothing. Rick gave me a price for the board, including the parts he had just installed. I decided for that cost I could buy a new washer. The techs were very kind, agreeing, and charged me only for the service, which I'd already paid. They did remove the new parts to return. Note to self: If the washer is so off balanced that it "walks" several inches, get it checked out now. That rattling/walking can loosen other parts.

If he felt an appliance wasn't worth repairing, he would tell you honestly and often wouldn't even charge for the visit. That level of integrity is why I trusted the company. Unfortunately, my recent experience under the new ownership was the exact opposite. I called Ace to repair a GE dryer. During the initial visit, I was told the dryer likely needed a motor and bearings. Because the motor was potentially covered under GE's warranty, I had GE inspect the machine before authorizing further work. GE's technician advised that the dryer was likely not worth repairing due to the extent of the issues. After discussing this with Ace, I was assured the dryer could likely be repaired for approximately $335. I authorized the work. The repair was completed on a Friday. Within hours of the technician leaving, the dryer began making extremely loud banging noises during operation. Upon inspection, it appeared the drum had not been properly secured during reassembly. Multiple screws were either loose or missing, and the dryer was no longer usable. I immediately contacted the company, provided photographs and video of the problem, and asked if someone could return promptly to correct the issue. My request was declined, and I was told the company would address it during normal business hours. At that point, the dryer had gone from needing a repair to being completely unusable. Because my wife works in healthcare and relies on daily uniforms, waiting indefinitely was not a practical option. What disappointed me most was not that a repair problem occurred--mistakes happen in every business. It was the lack of urgency, accountability, and communication after the repair failed. I also reached out to management and never received a response. I've owned multiple homes over the years and have dealt with many contractors, service companies, and appliance technicians. This was one of the most frustrating service experiences I've encountered. Based on my experience, I would strongly encourage consumers to do their research and obtain multiple opinions before authorizing appliance repairs

It wasn't getting cold, and I thought I'd probably have to fork out God knows how much to fix the compressor (which is what I thought it was), or a couple thousand for a new refrigerator, even though this one is only a couple years old! The tech came out, checked and tested all the suspect components, but then realized there was an ice blockage between the freezer and the refrigerator. Not only did he fix the problem, but showed me what to look for if it ever happened again, and gave me a bit of an education. Literally a small fraction of the cost, and education to boot!
