When we travel we look for mom and pop places to eat. Well this is one of the best we have found. We had their chicken fried steak with garlic mashed potatoes, grilled brussel sprouts and cheddar biscuts. For dessert had bread pudding. All homemade. Awesome is the best word. Literally the best food in town. The pies in the jars are the best desserts I've ever had. Try the blueberry cheesecake in a jar, you'll never want a regular dice of cheesecake again! My only gripe about this business is the same as every business in our town. Too short of business hours. On a weekend a place like this should stay open til at least 10:30-11:00. Especially once football season and all of that picks back up. I think people would appreciate a late night dinner after a game or traveling than convenience store food. So happy we took a chance and tried out Your Mom's Restaurant on a trip from Houston to San Marcos! The staff, the food and the ambiance are top notch Texas! My husband and I had the Willie Nelson burger that was cooked perfectly and oozed with sumptuous melted cheddar cheese that was stuffed inside. The fries were homemade and crispy. I gave this 3 stars only because of our first experience here. When we visited in mid-December, we were able to order quickly and receive our food in good time. It was very tasty and we all enjoyed the experience. Last night, we arrived at 6pm and stood in line for 10 minutes to order. Our food arrived 50 minutes later. My catfish tasted fishy and old; my husband's Philly cheesesteak was not what he was expecting. (chunks of meat on toast) The brussel sprouts and grits were very good, like the first time. I would have sent the catfish back, but who knows how long it would have taken to get it back. Probably not going here again. read more

Wow, just WOW!! My friend and I were on our way back from a girls' trip and all we wanted was something quick and good so we randomly yelped it and Your Mom's came up at the top of the list. We were just going to order to-go, but looking at everyone's plates, we knew it'd get messy in the car with the large portions so we decided to stay. It's a good thing we did. My friend got the grilled chicken sandwich and fries and both were delicious!! The honey mustard and ranch sauces were homemade too. Yep, we asked for seconds!! I got the chicken fried steak and man, oh man, was it massive. It was like the size of my face AND neck and it was soooo delicious with the gravy!! I got the mashed potatoes and brussells sprouts as sides and they did not disappoint. I mean, this dish could rival some pretty awesome places here in Houston too. Today's offerings were broccoli, brussell sprouts, fries, mashed potatoes, corn on cob. Soup of the day was a shrimp gumbo. The pot roast was flavorful and fall apart tender. The glazed and crisped brussell sprouts had a slightly sweet flavor and were fantastic. Catfish with lovely thin crispy coating and house made tarter sauce. Fresh cut french fries and the cheese grits were great. Hot from the oven cheese biscut served with meal. Loved the dense texture, similar to a scone. We didn't order a salad but the table next to us did and it looked wonderful. Ditto for the burgers. I was hesitant to order a burger as they are so huge that I was pretty sure I would not be able to open my mouth wide enough to take a bite. Really. They are giant. I would have had to eat it with a fork and knife. Looked absolutely delicious. Like a photo in a gourmet foodie magazine. Decor is causal & fun. Lovely old historic building with beautiful tall wooden doors on the interior. Lots of windows and natural light. So happy that we no longer have to drive to Austin for an exceptional meal. Stopped here on a road trip because of the reviews. Let me make it clear, this is not a 5 star restaurant. No meatloaf, no catfish, we could choose from buffet or burgers, buffet was only fried chicken, there were 4 pieces until 20 minutes later and it was overcooked. If you want somebody's dinner to get cold, then serve it on tin plates. The salad bar was scantily that, lettuce, tomatoes, not much more. The green beans were mushy, canned beans. The corn on the cob was overcooked old and leathery. Tea refills, there were none. The atmosphere was bad, my clothes smelled like a fryer when I got in my car. The Wllie Nelson burger with grilled jalepenos was delicious and they have the best fries. The fried catfish was not as seasoned as it could be, but was good. Been coming here for some time as I live 10 minutes away, and my most recent visit has been the best so far because of two words: FRIED CHICKEN! It started when I read an article this woman posted about the homemade taste of their new fried chicken, so I went and tried it for myself and I'm so glad I did. Yes the wait is long, but it was honestly worth every minute. The chicken was moist, hot, fresh, juicy and super flavorful with the perfect crisp and crunch to it. And to accompany this amazing fried chicken I had mashed potatoes which had perfect flavor and texture and the Brussels sprouts which I absolutely love and have a ton of flavor and cooked to perfection. That cheddar drop biscuit is the perfect little addition to that whole meal, phenomenal food really. The reasons why I didn't give the 5 stars that the food deserves, is due to several reasons. It's very hot inside.. I understand there's not much they can do about that but yeah.... I can't stand the soda selection it's like Maine root soda or something. The wait stinks but like I said it's worth waiting for the food. The menu is too small with jumbled up lettering and is hard to read. And I wish there was some apps on the menu too.. at least hold you over on that wait. I will say though the lady who took our order was very nice and friendly and even came to check on us and ask us if everything was ok. But omg you will not regret going for that fried chicken! We're super excited that Your Mom's has opened in Smithville. We had our first meal here tonight and it was as delicious as we had hoped. We had a Norma Jean burger and pulled pork sandwich. Both were deliciously prepared. When I asked if I could possibly get my burger in a bowl and not on a bun, Gina said that they would even make it wrapped in lettuce - double awesomeness. The fries were hand-cut and dipped in yummy batter - very tasty and delicately crispy. For desert we had a hand-crafted chocolate shake which was just completely wonderful. We'll be back for more! There are salads available as a break from the fried-everything-and-more-meat in this area and I plan to try the wedge salad next time. Try Your Mom's and keep it local! read more

Wonderful fresh food made on site. Truly hand made food. I had the catfish and my friend had a burger, both were wonderful. Very tasty. I loved fried catfish. The meat was thick, tender, and most important fresh. The tarter sauce was spicy. They carry the Maine Root soda line which I love. All they need to do is add the Ginger Beer. Relax in the dining room as your food is cooked in an open kitchen. Up until a few months ago this building was for the most part abandoned and in need of a total upgrade. I had been self absorbed with the duct dangling from the ceiling three feet above my face - like the leg of a giant, silver spider ready to strike me - savoring the chilled air falling from it. "Try the other one," he said again. I looked to the man behind the counter, his gloved hand indicating another air vent on the opposite side of the table I was standing next to. His friendly demeanor and immediate understanding of my antics assured me that I was in good hands. I walked around the table to stand beneath another duct. Just as the man had advised, this duct offered a stronger flow of air and cooler temperatures in its path. I pulled out a chair and sat there, beneath this vent from heaven, not giving a second thought as to how I may have appeared to the half dozen patrons scattered throughout the large dining space. My sweet Rhonda had gathered the paper napkins and silverware to join our glasses of ice water on the table. We sat side by side, flipping through a magazine from two years prior, graced with the face of Jeff Bridges, which was left on the counter where we had placed our orders just a few minutes ago. We were delirious from flirting with dehydration and heat exhaustion on a long, hot, early September's day. We had been greeted by a welcoming lady behind the register upon our passing through the doors found within shouting distance of 2nd and Main. When asked for recommendations on the menu, we were pointed to their two most popular dishes. We waited and admired the interior - brick peaking out from behind missing fragments of plaster, exposed rafters, long, wooden dining tables with black, metal chairs, and our friend the central air conditioning - as the man assembled our fare, a Norma Jean burger with a fried egg on top, and a chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts. Or order was called up and I thanked the man for his A/C advice as I picked up our trays from the counter. Our enameled steel trays hit the table and we barely spoke as we moved from dish to dish, sampling the burger, the fries, the chicken fried steak, the mashed potatoes, and the brussel sprouts. The burger was huge - cheese oozing out from within the confines of the half pound patty, mixing with the yolk from the fried egg, and garnished with crunchy lettuce, sweet tomatoes, and crisp refreshing pickles (definitely home-made). The fries were pleasantly balanced with a satisfyingly soft center wrapped in a crispy crunchy shell. The chicken fried steak was enormous - wrapped in a crust that the restaurant has perfected, and adorned with rich, creamy, homemade white gravy, the same gravy that was draped over a pile of mashed potatoes that had been masterfully seasoned. The brussel sprouts were tossed with a sweet balsamic glaze that paired wonderfully with the crispy, savory, roasted sprouts - just how I would make them at home. We could clearly see why the 53, 5-star reviews on Yelp had led us here. This was simple, elegantly prepared home cooking that everyone can, and should enjoy. We will be back. read more

What a treat to find this slice of heaven! I always search for the best burger place and this gem is one of those listed in Smithville! The atmosphere is great: rennovated old building with reclaimed beadboard makes it warm & friendly, plus Mom & Pop run it with customer service at forefront...not to mention fantastic stuffed burgers! Go with at least 2 people so you can split your burger and share! We will do it again on our next trip here! And those fries!!! Excellent food, fun atmosphere. My wife and I had an opportunity to try the newly opened Your Mom's in Smithville. Both my wife and I were very impressed. My wife had the pot roast platter. She described the pot roast as savory and cooked to perfection. I had one of the signature burgers, which was also excellent. Very high quality ingrediants and the combination of ingrediants made sense versus some burger places that over do it. The kitchen is small and the owners have smartly focused on a more select menu that they excell at (2 salad entrees, 3 specialty burgers, 2 pork dishes, and 2 beef dishes). The restaurant is still in the "soft open" mode but the place was packed and had a fun energy level. read more

We found Your Mom's here on Yelp on our way from Austin, and I'm so glad we stopped over! The hosts were super friendly and the food was yummy. I had the "pulled pork" jackfruit tacos. I'm usually a bit hesitant with jackfruit as a meat substitute because it sometimes comes out too sweet. Our host convinced me to try it, and she was right! Not sweet at all and very delicious. I also had a chance to try their cheese-stuffed veggie burger. It tastes like a nice fatty patty, and it's been a while since I've eaten meat but I would've been fooled. We finished up the meal with some coffee and banana bread pudding, which rounded up one of the most satisfying meals I've had in weeks. Thanks guys! read more
