My friends and I were passing through Smithsville when she found Your Mom's on the map, and decided to give it a shot because we were starving and southern comfort/cajun food sounded unbelievable. We read the reviews and started leveling up our expectations, and to be honest they were pretty high. When i tell you i have never been so blown out of the water, blindsided by amazement, knocked on my ass in the BEST possible way.....When I TELL YOU I can't find the words to appropriately describe the absolute glory that is this food, this place, and these people. I wish i was more kidding when i say if i dropped my entire plate on the floor, i would still eat the entire thing.... OFF of the floor. Fried chicken, gouda gritz, and the glazed brussels sprouts. Stopped by after the tough mudder. The willie burger comes in Texas toast and is stuffed with cheese and goodness. Fresh bacon, a little bit of bbq sauce and a fried onion ring to top it off. The burger pattie itself is good sized and has excellent flavor in addition to being stuffed. They don't charge extra for sweet potato fries and they are excellent as well. Chicken fried steak is insane. Big enough to probably feed 3 people and comes with the best garlic mashed potatoes I've ever had. Don't forget the cheddar garlic roll to go with it which will blow your mind. I would go out of my way to come back to this place. Was super disappointed with our experience here. First, you walk in & order your food at the front & pay. My boyfriend ordered the gumbo & I ordered a salad & added grilled shrimp (asked for the dressing on the side). We go sit down & wait an hour for our food. Now if they were busy I could understand but the restaurant wasn't even half full. Either way, it shouldn't take this long to get a bowl of gumbo and a salad!!! Finally, we get our food! Now we are not picky people at all, but the gumbo was awful & the lettuce in my salad was warm & it was covered in dressing. This place is a small family owned and operated restaurant. There's only one guy making food and he puts his soul into it. The chicken fried chicken is the best I've ever had and I wish I could figure out what he does to his mashed potatoes to make them so flavorful. We actually headed to Smithville to go to another restaurant, but when we discovered they were closed I went to Yelp to find another place to eat. I am so glad it worked out that way. I'm the only one who will eat Brussel sprouts, so the others didn't try them, but that was good because it meant I didn't have to share. Fate must exist. Truly. I haven't been here since 2009 when they were off Airport in Austin! When I decided to move to Austin I was so sad to hear this place moved. I had no idea where. My boyfriend and I were coming from Houston and made a wrong turn. Starving as we righted our path, I looked on Yelp for whatever there is to eat and found to my astonishment Your Mom's. I'm so excited to say that this place still holds up in quality. We had the Norma Jean with their fries and I had brussel sprouts (veggie of the day). The burgers are cooked with the cheese inside the meat which is juicy and mouth watering. Pickles are made from scratch (everything is made from scratch here, real home cooking!), and the fries are light and full of taste! The folks were so nice and it took a bit of time to get our food but worth the wait! (There was a huge party earlier and it slowed up the flow of everyone else getting their food that day). One of the waitresses gave me a blueberry lemon parfait to go and it is delicious!! I never knew this little town of Smithville existed, and I'm so glad we got lost going back to Austin. A friend and I were in Smithville for the day and happened upon this jewel. Let me start off by saying that we were greeted by quite possibly one of the nicest ladies ever! She did everything she could to make sure we enjoyed ourselves and it was quite clear her kindness came from the heart. No fake fluff whatsoever. We came in at peak business time and waited a bit longer than expected but I. Don't. Care. I'd wait a thousand years for this food. Hands down, the Norma Jean is the best burger I've had in years. A fried egg on top only makes it better. The fries are also fantastic. I didn't get to try the sweet potato fries (they ran out) but the lady at the register assured me they'd have them next weekend, so I'll definitely be back for those. Also, can we talk about the creme brûlée for a minute? Oh my god. I've had creme brûlée in expensive French restaurants that didn't taste half as good. The tiny jars it comes in are too small. My wife and I stopped here after a trip to the hill country. The outside doesn't look very inviting, but don't let that stop you from going in. Inside has the old rustic style cafe look. We were greeted by a young lady as soon as we walked in. You place your order at the counter. Looking over the menu, my wife and I both decided to try the Norma Jean burger which came with homemade fries. I'm a homemade fry nut. Our name was called and I went to retrieve our food. The guy doing the cooking explained he would bring out extra fries because they usually pile them on. I looked at the amount of fries and told him not to bother since it was enough.....I thought. Well, I sat down and tried the fries. I immediately went back to the guy and requested the extra fries he had promised. These are some of the best fries I've ever had. They weren't the soft limp homemade fries. These were crisp and had that great potato taste from hand cut potatoes. The extra fries came out and we finished them. Now, for the burger. The meat patty was stuffed with cheddar. I pulled off a bit of the non-cheesed beef and really enjoyed the beef taste. The buns were toasted and the veggies were fresh. The burger was a bit juicy which made for somewhat of a messy meal, but we both really enjoyed our lunch. Oh, they give you clean dish towels instead of napkins which was good for us. Loved Your Mom's! Went today with my husband while not intending to have lunch in Smithville. When we saw this place, we were intrigued enough to stop in. I ordered the fried catfish, broccoli and cheese grits and my husband ordered the meatloaf, mashed potatoes and fried brussel sprouts. He has never had brussel sprouts so I had planned on eating his for him b/c he does not love green vegetables. Both meals were amazing and my husband ate every bite of the sprouts. I almost died of shock. The sprouts had a sweet sauce on them and mixed with the crunchiness of the fried leaves made every bite worthwhile. We will be going back.
