Technician Arsen handled the bedroom unit well. He found the drain hose was clogged and mounted too low, cleaned it out, adjusted the mounting height, and confirmed it drained properly over a 2-hour test. The living room unit is where I'm disappointed. A technician from my home warranty company had already confirmed the unit, less than a year old, was completely empty of freon. Arsen couldn't initially find the leak and charged me to vacuum and recharge the system, with no warranty since the source was unconfirmed. During that process, he found the actual leak in a copper line under the house. Once identified, he refused to go into the crawl space to fix it and said no one else at the company could either. That doesn't add up: just months ago, five workers from another company spent a full week under the house for a seismic retrofit, moving freely through the entire crawl space without issue, including the area where this leak is now located. I offered to pay extra for him or anyone else to complete the repair and was still turned down. Instead, he recommended replacing the entire unit for $5,000, which doesn't make sense for a nearly-new system with one identified leak point. I'm now out the cost of a recharge that didn't fix anything and came with no warranty, and I still have to find another company willing to go under the house and finish the repair Arsen already diagnosed. I appreciate the diagnostic work, but a company that installs mini splits should have someone who can access a crawl space to tighten a fitting. Choosing an upsell over a specific, identified fix is why I can't rate this higher. Update: The owner, Alex B., responded to this review quickly and personally came out to fix the leak. He accessed the crawl space without any issue, repaired the fitting in a few minutes, vacuumed and recharged the system, and tested it to confirm stable freon levels and cold air output. It's a straightforward fix, which makes it more frustrating it wasn't handled this way from the start, but I appreciate the owner stepping in directly to make it right. Between 2020 and 2025, all seemed "tolerable" with my old Payne/Carrier AC + furnace. But last fall, it was clear my system had given up the ghost... and unbeknownst to me, the fabulous older gentleman who'd been coming here off and on for years, retired and moved out of state. I needed some new AC geniuses! Let the research and bidding/quoting madness begin! * FAMILY-OWNED BUSINESSES ARE BEST! I know everyone says "go local," and avoid things (giant franchises, etc.) that rhyme with "Bosco," for such an install (as well as gear sharing the first name of a famous 1990s-era heavyweight boxer w/the last name of Lewis). I'll let you imagine how that "almost" experience went... The FAMILY-OWNED business that is GREEN PLANET not only saved me heaps, but educated me about what would truly be needed, to go the "heat pump" route (my initial intention). Given that I have ancient, single-pane windows, and am in a tricky financial spot (I can't really upgrade my insulation to seal up the home to make a heat pump be 100% effective, let alone, replace windows), I ended up going with a rock solid, super efficient, side discharge AC condenser (due to vertical clearance limitations) and a new furnace (more details below). I hired Lions and they did some work to try to mitigate, but said that it would be a problem down the line. Down the line arrived and I called Lions back when my AC was dripping excessive water. Turns out it was toast and needed replacement. I got a quote for replacement from them quickly. I shopped around and theirs was a little higher than others (5-10%ish) but I felt they had a very thorough quote that explained every step they would do, so I went with them. For the install, it was easy/quick to schedule. They told me it would take 3 days. Lions sent their subcontractors who did a really good job. It took the full 3 days to do the full install, and they were quiet, efficient, polite, and cleaned up after themselves. They did not damage my paint or walls at all. During the work, they determined there would be incremental work needed to make the system work more efficiently. They ran everything by me and asked permission before, and quoted me the incremental costs. In the end, I felt like it was the right thing to do. They spent time making new vents and ductwork for me for what seems like a very small incremental price for the amount of work. At the end, I asked them to walk me through all the work on video to explain the system which they obliged happily. One note is that my building HOA is very strict about going on the roof and doing installs to avoid damage to void the roof warranty. The roofers said they would charge me an egregious amount to supervise the HVAC guys to make sure it was done right. Instead, I got permission from my HOA not to bring the roofers as long as Lions did not damage or modify the roof. I explained this to them and they did a perfect job reusing the old mounts so no roof modifications were needed, saving me some liability. In the end, the new AC unit works very efficiently quietly and has new features to prevent the same problems my last one had. New AC will burn a hole in your pocket no matter what, but I'm glad I had it done well by Lions.
