Yo Yo Ice Cream is in the center of New Britain. Here you can get ice cream rolls, bubble tea, and a variety of other desserts. It's a bit weird on the inside, the windows are covered with acrylic anime characters. It honestly looks like a little kid took it upon him self to decorate the space. They also have some phone cases and keychains for sale. My friend and I got the Monkey Family Thai Ice Cream roll to share. This is made with banana and Nutella. We could pick up to three toppings. The way that some of the containers are closed, I couldn't see what they're offering. We got mango poppers, two raspberries (yes two whole raspberries?!) and crushed almonds. We sat inside. This was so delicious! The banana and Nutella are a dream match! Unfortunately I didn't enjoy the interior at all. It was very filthy. The light pink velour stools were super dirty, the floors were filthy. I also didn't care for the anime. The young kids after they served us went to play on their phones, but the place could use a good cleaning. I'm not sure if I'd come back here again. Thai rolled ice cream is delicious and so cool to watch while being made.They use a cream and mash up the ingredients on a cold stone pallet which freezes and then is rolled up and topped with 3 additional toppings. They offer so many other little treats too. Boba tea with fruit or milk, cakes, milkshakes, slushies, and smoothies. They have their own personal creations or you can make up your own. There was a cute little seating area for us to enjoy our ice cream too. They had other little trinkets sold here as well, from Keychains, phone cases and even t-shirts. When this place first opened, what really struck me was the question "what are they doing in downtown New Britain?!" You see, places just like this are all over Taiwan, a land I've been fortunate enough to visit several times, and other Far East locales, too. Indeed, bubble tea is an enduring fad that's now taken hold in major US cities, but I didn't think it would survive in New Britain. Well, the quality, novelty, and their intrepid staff are why they're doing so well. All winter long, the lone, smiling workers open and close the shop in order to serve what appears to be only a handful of customers daily. But in warmer weather, prepare for a line! I don't care for red bean ice cream, but a Japanese friend LOVES the flavor, here. The ice cream rolls are dear ($7) but well worth it - we split an order, and are fine with it. And nobody's looked askance at two grown men sharing a dessert here (we've endured homophobic stares when we've shared a banana split at a Friendly's). Bubble tea, and fruited ice bowls, are a very Asian thing. It's good we live in the area, because if it were miles away we'd drive there! read more

We stopped in yesterday for a fourth of July treat- what a FUN experience!! We both selected a different Thai rolled ice cream and watched as it was constructed right before our eyes! It was really satisfying to watch the liquid ice cream base freeze and before a delicious frozen treat! What we loved: ice cream was delicious and once it's all rolled up they will put unlimited toppings on it (like poky, sour gummy rainbows, pirouette cookies, oreos, etc), the space was clean and friendly with bubblegum pop music playing, the staff was over-the-top nice and friendly, and all the ingredients in the actual ice cream base are organic! The only downside we could see was that a pretty big line could form waiting for ice cream since it is basically made to order and there are only two ice cream freezing stations. Rolled ice creams come out at $7 a pop, which is a bit on the expensive side as far as ice cream goes, but the experience is really unique and, in our opinion, worth it. They also sell boaba teas, slushies, milk teas, and other specialty treats that we are looking forward to trying. So nice to have a unique place like YoYo in NBtown! read more
