However, this time the udon noodles themselves were very salty as if they had been sitting in a soy base. The broth was salty as well. I got the vegetable udon and it came with a few pieces of green beans and carrot slices and that was it. Shrimp tempura was was still extremely heavily battered with a thick outershell. My family loooooves Yoyogi, so we got takeout after a long day out. I love the way the rolls are presented in the to go boxes, first of all. The fish tasted fresh and I love how thick the nigiri pieces were. The eel was DELICIOUS, and definitely was my favorite. After the eel was the salmon, then tuna, then yellowtail. The salmon and avocado pieces are huge and the lobster roll is actually a crawfish roll. Those 2 rolls were my favorite out of the 3. I wish the tuna was mashed or cut up into smaller pieces. I think it would take the spicy mayo better that way too. Service was quick and simple. I don't know if they get tipped often because the staff at the register seemed very surprised and happy the customer in front of me and I tipped on our orders. I definitely recommend Yoyogi Sushi. Pretty affordable sushi to satisfy the craving I was experiencing! Most of their items start at $3-$4 and the restaurant offers some unique options such as fried chicken roll (which I would not try again, it was very dry, despite being doused with soy sauce). I felt the sushi was definitely fresh, but it wasn't the best I've ever had. I was happy for the quality and the amount of sushi I received at the price I paid. I did experience some frustration: It was annoying to have the shell still on the tail of the shrimp tempura rolls and some of the shell on the crab rolls because I didn't want to have to touch my sushi (especially given the pandemic). Also, all of the sushi ordered was placed into containers together. It was hard to differentiate which roll was which at times. It would have been difficult to do so, especially if my order was larger or for others, to figure out who ordered what. I ordered online and went straight to their pickup window at the allotted time, signed my credit card receipt, and was handed the sushi! No need to even enter the restaurant (which I greatly appreciated during the pandemic). The restaurant has a few tables outside, but there is even more public seating (benches, a large patch of grass for picnics) where anyone can easily socially distance. As a warning though, there's a $10 fee if you place same day orders so would recommend placing a day or two ahead of time. I got #16 and #22. The rolls are basic, and they don't really have over sauced maki rolls that other places have so if you're someone who prefers sushi this way, this is the place for you! The fish was super fresh and had great texture. Surprisingly their California rolls are one of the best I've ever had and would recommend it for those who can't eat raw. The restaurant appears to still be carry out only. They have a little freezer by the front door with mochi ice cream and a mini fridge with a variety of Asian drinks (both sweetened and unsweetened teas and Japanese sodas). The shrimp tempura skin was a bit hard but that could be attributed to our orders being takeout. California roll was pretty good too and that's not usually something I order but it's yummy for people that don't like raw fish. They didn't overload on rice as "filler" which was great, but the vinegar to sugar ratio in the sushi rice could be improved. Overall, great casual place to grab cheap fresh sushi. Still an amazing value though only because you don't have waitstaff to tip. I love this place because their sushi is fantastic - they make fantastic sushi rice and they PACK their rolls with so much fish (see pictures). I'm in love with their California rolls and Alaska rolls especially. I am always satisfied with their rolls. The seafood udon broth had a clean flavor and was also tasty in case you don't want sushi for some reason. Suggestion: Please provide free hot tea next to the provided cold water. To be more sustainable, I d really appreciate a switch from disposable plastic cups and chopsticks to reusable. I came here about 6 years ago and when they were located in a different location across the street, and was excited to be in the area to stop by one of my favorite and affordable sushi restaurants. However, it was not the same restaurant that I remembered and I was very disappointed... They have 4 new kiosks on the walls which are just tablet dell monitors that is a big computer screen. It's very confusing, and you can't pay at the kiosk. You also have to put in a confirmation number that's sent to your phone via text message (which I never received and the employee had to enter her own number). The employee had to constantly come and help everyone at the kiosks... I don't understand why they'd invest in an ordering method that slows down the business. I also don't like that this restaurant is small as it is, and it was uncomfortable to have others backsides in my face while I'm trying to enjoy my meal because they're trying to place their orders on the kiosk. The sushi is just all-right. The homemade iced tea used taste super good, but this time, it's watered down and doesn't have that deep tea flavor. The sushi prices are reasonable and they do offer more bang for their buck in terms of quantity of fish in their rolls.
