Came here after a friend had a delayed flight at Dulles and was looking for some good asian noodles in the area. I knew about Yu Noodles from their branch in McLean, and so figured they would be a good option at 8PM on a random Thursday. My friend ordered the pork and shrimp Xiao long bao, Noodles in scallion oil with chicken, and mango sago. The pork and shrimp Xiao long bao was delicious, although a bit flat by the time it got to the table (still very delicious and filled with decadent soup). The Noodles in scallion oil with chicken was a very simple dish, which is hard to go wrong with. I was personally slightly disappointed with the mango sago as it was a bit on the blander side, but also recognize that adding too much sugar is often the downside of mango sago. The sauce wasn't my favorite, but I think it went well to combine with all the components: noodles, veggies, minced pork. Came into town and heard from my family that I had to try Yu Noodles! This place is new and recently opened in Herndon as one of the few authentic Chinese restaurants. I came in with my boyfriend around 6pm on a Saturday for dinner and we were seated immediately. The space was open and had plenty of tables and take reservations as well. The ambience is simple/clean, and our waitress was quick and nice by brining us menus and cucumber water as we sat down. I heard that the Soup Dumplings are delicious and they were! We tried the Shrimp & Pork (green) and Peppercorn Spicy Soup Dumplings (pink). Both soup dumplings had the perfect amount of soup, meat, and dumpling skin ratio. The dumpling skin was not too thick, and they evenly placed each dumpling to avoid crowding together in each steam basket. 6 dumplings come in one order and our waitress brought out a side of ginger for us to make sauces. We also ordered the Spicy Oil Wontons and they were good! Not too spicy and has extra sauce in the bowl to add more chili oil on your plate. The Sichuan Beef Noodle Soup was flavorful! I didn't realize that this was going to be spicy, however it didn't overwhelm the other flavors in the soup. The beef was sliced thin and noodles were chewy with the broth. The bok choy was tender to easily eat a spoonful with the rest of the soup. The cucumber melon water was refreshing with all the flavors, especially with the spicy oily dishes. We are so excited to see this spot in Herndon now. We did takeout two days in a row. Our little girl loves their soup dumplings. And their soup dumplings do real well as takeout. They are descent tasting. I prefer a thinner skin. But the thicker skin help keep all that savory soup tucked inside those cute and round shaped dumplings. We also tried their pork chop and rice, spicy wontons, Yibin spicy dry noodles, and sesame paste with minced pork noodles, and everything is fantastic. My favorite is the spicy wontons. The skin is silky, the filling is yummy, the peanuts add crunch, and the spicy sauce is so good! I feel so spoiled now that we don't have to drive further to Fairfax for such deliciousness. I think we will continue doing takeout in the future. The place was packed both days when we picked up food. I love the Fairfax location, but I live in Herndon. So I was ecstatic when I heard this location would be opening. Now that it's open, I'm even happier than I could've imagined. The menu is mostly the same as the Fairfax location. All of my favorite go-to dishes are here: soup dumplings, noodle soups, and dry noodles. Besides the food, the restaurant itself is clean and has a similar vibe to the Fairfax location. It is larger though, which is a plus as I found that the restaurant was bustling with business today during the lunch hour. The soup dumplings at Yu Noodles won't top Bob's Shanghai in Rockville, but as far as Northern VA goes, they are "A" tier. If you're a fan of video games or anime, I'd say Yu Noodles' soup dumplings are "A" tier whereas Bob's Shanghai would be "S" tier (the top tier). But that doesn't take away from the fact that they are high quality and you will be satisfied getting them here. As you would imagine, all the noodle dishes at Yu are fantastic, but my favorites are the Yibin Spicy Dry Noodle, the Beef Noodle Soup, and the Chongqing noodles. The restaurant has only been open a short time at this new location and I've already visited it twice this week. So that should tell you everything you need to know. It is quickly in my rotation of go-to restaurants in the Herndon/Reston area now and is easily at the top of my list for Chinese restaurants in the area. You must try their noodles and definitely try their soup dumplings. For the noodles if you like spicy noodles try their Chongqing noodle or Yibin spicy dry noodles. Both spicy, so if you can't handle spicy I suggest sesame paste with minced pork. If you want something with soup, their sichuan beef noodle soup (I personally like Chongqing noodles better). Dumplings are delicious here as well. This time we only got the soup dumplings shrimp & pork. Which was really good. We also got spicy marinade beef & tripe and spicy oil wonton. And I really enjoyed the spicy oil wonton! It was spicy and very flavorful. But the highlight was my dessert!! Mango pomelo sago!! Delicious!! And perfect way to end a heavy meal. We were seated immediately at 6:45 to a very clean restaurant. We were given paper menus but I'm pretty well versed on Chinese food so we knew what we wanted. We ordered the pork soup dumplings (XLB/xiao long bao), steamed pork bun/bao, and scallion pancake, as well as the house made sweet soymilk and a coke can (soy milk was based on Yelp reviews). The scallion pancake came out first and it was very crisp--I think it was deep fried. Yummy street food snack for a lil appetizer. The steamed roast pork bun was good, but honestly, I was hoping for char siu. It appeared to be minced pork with a soy sauce based sauce. The dough was perfect, nice and plump, but the pork had a tiny bit of gristle in it in some bites. It was missing a little more sauce, too. I know this is unheard of, but if you dipped the bun in soy sauce, it was money. Lastly, the XLB came out. These were literal perfection. The dumpling skin was a bit thick, but it held the delectable soup inside perfectly. I really loved the nice touch of the long spoons that held them like a little pocket. It works if you bite the top off, then eat the rest of the dumpling, then slurp the broth. I wanted 20 more. We were stuffed, but I want to try dessert next time, but honestly, the soy milk was kinda like a dessert. Service was impeccable. Dishes were cleared effectively and timely. Check came without asking. Only "snafu" was that they preferred the tip in cash. I had a $20 bill and the cashier up front kindly broke it for me. I ordered online from their website, but when I went to get my food, they said they didn't have my order in "their system." I checked my credit card, and it showed I had been charged (aka paid about $90), but they still said they couldn't help me and told me to order again. I placed a second smaller order for the sake of time, but it took a very long time to make my food. They also said they would give me back my money when they saw the original payment, but they never did. They kept insisting I must have ordered to a different location, even though my credit card and receipt showed Herndon. They talked in endless circles and refused to refund me despite saying they would and having proof of the two charges. You can't go wrong with their Sichuan Beef Noodle Soup or Chonqing Noodles. Their cold noodles are refreshing in the summer and have a great sesame taste.
