My sister, mom, and fiancé came home with some of their food one day and they all loved it. The haddock and sandwiches were all tasty according to all of them. HOT DAMNNNN! Good and cheap eats. For whatever reason my recent trip to Downeast* Maine has featured a bevy of delightful cheap food. Y U (No?) Takeout was a sweet red cherry on the top of this food filled trip. As of this trip (08/15) they are running a 2 for $10 crab roll and chip special. You get 2 loaded up toasted crab rolls, a handful of kettle chips and a scoop of 'slaw. I only ate the rolls, can't comment on the 'slaw, who has room for slaw when crab rolls are 2 for $10? Not me. The crabby filling was crab and just the right amount of may and no filler- no onion no celery to pollute the taste of crab. The finishing touch was a dusting of the traditional paprika. I did get some dumplings to bring home to my wife, because I had to get something from the Korean side of the menu. 12 for around $6? Sold. Perfectly deep fried to crispy perfection. Lots of veggies all tasting fresh. Be aware they are meat free. They were good. Yeah, it's a shack on the side of the road. Clearly you have never done Maine seafood right if you are down on the seafood shack. It's supposed to be dumpy. Money goes into the food, not the building, that's how you know it is good. I'll be back to test out more of the Korean side of the menu. *No matter what, anything south of Ellsworth is NOT DownEast Maine. In true Mainer fashion I believe that only Washington County is DownEast and everything else is just Northern Massachusetts. read more

Great crab rolls! I'm confused by the reviews saying that there isn't much meat in the rolls because we have ordered the double crab roll special twice in the past two days and both times been very impressed with the flavor and quantity. Can't wait to try the lobster rolls too! read more

Stopped at this adorable little shack while driving from Schoodic Point because we read about the possibility of kimchi lobster roll. The girl at the window said that they don't serve it but that she could put a small side of kimchi in the box. Lobster roll was tiny (but only $10) and pretty dressed up with mayo, but add the kimchi and OMG out of this world! The owners should take a hint and make this a thing because it is downright incredible. I thought the kimchi would overpower the lobster, but it somehow made a perfectly sweet salty crunchy complement. read more

Terrible! This based on the clam chowder only, however after that I wouldn't try anything else. We paid $7 for a cup of clam chowder, which would have been fine except for the fact that it was pretty much cream broth, a few potatoes, and at most half a dozen small clam pieces. It wasn't all that tasty anyway, so I'm not sure how much all that would have helped. Our cabin was far enough away that I didn't bother going back to ask for a refund. The building itself is a weary mishmash of old time ice cream stand and tired antique stand. Still, it has a kitschy look that could play well...................if the food were good. The service by a teenaged girl was OK at best. She just doesn't know the finer points of being a welcoming host, informative ambassador, and gun ghost waitress. She writes down the order, collects cash and sends you on your way with barely a smile and nothing in the way of helpful advice. Still, she wasn't mean. My wife and 2 kids joined me and we ordered a lobster roll, clam chowder, Szechuan chicken (seeing as it's an Asian owned stand - I figured they could get that right), a hot dog, and chicken tenders. The lobster roll was a very small bun filled with standard ingredients. Way overpriced at $13 for such a skimpy portion. Overall, my wife said it was OK. In Maine, you can throw 10 shoes in the air and hit 8 places that can rock a good lobster roll with aplomb. Not here. The Szechuan chicken was just bad. It was frozen chicken the cheap Chinese joints buy by the 20# bag. The sauce was regular old sweet n sour sauce with a healthy amount of siracha added. It was just horrible. The chicken tenders - same thing..........frozen factory breaded chicken that was barely seasoned if at all. The fries with it were, I'm sure, bought from the same restaurant food vendors that they got the other frozen garbage from. The hot dog was just that. A hot dog on a bun with fries - nothing inspired. Finally, the clam chowder was the only thing that rescued this visit from one of the worst food experiences I've ever had. It had real clams in it (it's comical that I even have to point that out), the potatoes were not a mushy mess, and the broth was a good clam and cream broth that wasn't thickened up by some additive. It was actually good. Not great.....but good. That was one and only visit and while I may have not ordered from their culinary sweet spot, that food I spent $44 on was enough to keep me away. I'm not a reviewer at all because I've got better things to do. But this visit today was enough motivation for me to try and warn other visitors to the area to visit somewhere else. read more

Was extremely surprised that Korean food was available in this remote area in Maine.The onion rings were not cooked all the way. The rice for the Korean bbq was not cooked with any spice. Ordered spicy hot wings and got plain wings with sesame seeds thrown on top. The food was just blah. We spent $57. Plus a tip on food that was not worth it. Plus we had to wait for cold uncooked food. Word of mouth to mouth don't eat there until they get their act together. read more

Great food! Our first time there although we've been driving by for years and they always seem to be busy. Fried scallops were delicious and the vegetarian wontons were awesome. They were out of onion rings but it was the end of the day at the end of the weekend so not a big deal for us. This was a very surprising find. Coming from NY, it is not the best Korean food...no banchan or anything like that. It's very straightforward and tasty. We had the bulgogi, spicy pork, lobster roll, crab roll, and kimchi. All were very good and the lobster roll is quite decent. The food was very affordable...lobster roll was $11, which is the cheapest I found. I was disappointed that they don't serve bibimbap anymore, but if you want something a little different, the Korean food is pretty solid. Excellent service, awesome food and overall great place to eat. Food can be pricey but it's expected with sea food saying they freshly battered and fried the clams I ordered. Food came out fast and orderly and had a great taste. They were out of some items but it showed me that they were a popular place and there was plenty other items to choose from. great lil take out place for sure, authentic asian food, i believe the cook is korean. you will not find cheaper crabmeat anywhere else, crab rolls, crab cakes, and crab dip are all delisious. the owners buy crabs direct from local fisherman and process the meat themselves passing value and freshness on to the customer. they also do shrimp, scallops, lobster rolls and mussels. also a good location jus out of ellsworth and bar harbor so usually not a large crowd!! read more

I'm conflicted on this one. While the crab burger and fried shrimp I've had there have been good (let's say 4 stars) the place needs some sprucing up and a smiling pleasant face behind the window. I've eaten at many a clam shack but the picnic tables here need a paint job and new tablecloths (1 star) - pretty yucky, I would eat in my car. The grounds could use some decluttering. Lots of potential for this place (fond memories when it was a hot dog shack with Datil Dogs) but once Jordan's opens back up in August (hopefully) that's where we'll be returning to if things don't improve. And the counter person really needs to be personable (1 star). But, as I said, the food was fine. They do have Gifford's ice cream which is a plus - Maine Black Bear which is only available at restaurants/drive-ins. read more
