It looks like an interesting restaurant with the cooks out front of the restaurant cooking the lobsters and the boils by the side of the road. This establishment was right across from our campground. As soon as we parked and walked towards the entrance we can smell the food cooking in the large pots outside (I forgot to take a picture). They had some good specials. We ordered a 4 pound lobster to take back with us to eat outside at our campsite with a view of the water. They packed it so nicely in newspaper and in a box to stay warm. It was absolutely steamed to perfection. It was lightly cracked to make it easier to extract the big chunks of lobster. The claws were humongous. We had the corn on the cob and coleslaw on the side. This will always be a memorable dinner experience. read more

My family of two adults and two teens went to Gateway Lunt's for dinner. We ordered a lobster meal, two haddock meals, and a clam chowder. The food & service was mediocre (fries tastes frozen and undercooked, coleslaw was dry and foul tasting etc) at best and exceptionally over priced. The waitstaff spilled water on two of us and brought us an empty silverware bag. For comparison, we ate at the renowned Jordan Pond House in Acadia National Park and ordered four full meals, four popovers, and one drink and paid LESS than we did here for less food and no drinks! We've been here twice now, it's a good spot to hit on your way into Bar Harbor. The restaurant is always clean and so are the bathrooms. The staff are lovely people who make sure you're taken care of. We got three dishes and took home zero leftovers! The seafood is buttery and oh so tasty! The soup was a little thin for my liking but I still finished the bowl- no complaints! It is seafood so you do pay the price but there's no way around it in Maine! read more

The clam chowdah is the worst I have evah tasted in my life. It is criminal what is passed off as clam chowdah. It was oily, runny and tasted like pizza sauce. Disgusting! We stopped at Gateway Lunt's Lobster Pound to try the special on the board for lunch - a soft shell lobster. The location is right off the side of the road and easy to see with plenty of parking. I learned a "soft shell lobster" has more water weight because the lobster has just shed its shell and is still growing, and has room to grow, so there's not as much meat inside as the shell is big. It was good and still filling though, worth the try. The lobster was sweet and cooked perfectly. It's also "pre-cracked" so it was easy to get into. The special comes with a side and I chose the potato salad, but I think the fries tasted better. I think for the price it was a good deal! My partner had the fried shrimp and fries and he said it was good. I was too busy with my lobster to notice, lol. The blueberry lemonade seltzer was so good and a perfect compliment! read more

My wife enjoyed the haddock burger she got and I was happy to try a lobster roll for the first time. Unfortunately I think we mostly settled on coming here as we were very hungry and many of the other restaurants in the area were still closed for the season. A screaming toddler in the backseat was the final straw and we pulled into the parking lot. $27 dollars for a lobster roll and $15 .50 dollars for the haddock burger with lettuce and tomato seem like eye-wateringly high prices to me and we resolved to try and eat further away from Acadia where hopefully prices and clientele are more local and reasonable. read more

Lunt's is a great option on the way in or out of Bar Harbor. It's about 30 - 45 minutes out of downtown Bar Harbor. We each got a lobster roll and split an onion rings and it was plenty and it was really delicious! The onion rings were recommended to us by the lady who took our order at the counter and we were so appreciative because they were a treat. Not quite shoestring but not thick and there were plenty of them in the order. The boiling pots out front of the restaurant are a nice touch and great photo opp. I removed 1 star just because this lobster pound was a little less "happening" than the others we went to. It was pretty quiet and sleepy when we visited at about 6pm so if that's your speed this is perfect. There was plenty of space to sit outside, we sat in a little covered area that was really cute. After checking in the Open Hearty Inn, we decided to have dinner here. It is just few steps away from our inn and the first lobster shack we saw entering the town. I heard that that there are other two shacks few yards away. We were welcomed with a smile. We asked more about their special twin lobster package and suggested that it comes as soft shell. A good 101 lobster lesson was given by our waitress that helped us picked the right order. We were not disappointed with our fresh steamed one pounder plus hard shell lobster order. My big craving was satisfied. It is a very homey lobster pound/shack , its decorations entertained me while waiting for our orders. They have so many items for sale . The menu pricing is very reasonable for the amount of lobster meat that was served to us. The sides complimented well our entree. If not for the cool temperature, we may had picked dining outside. Before coming in, we saw outside number of big pots stocked on the cooking chambers where they boil the shellfishes. It was entertaining to watch while they cooking customers orders. We didn't realized that they were closing early on the night of our visit until we noticed that about 30 minutes after we were served, it was just me and my husband who were still in the place. Doors were locked and staff was starting clearing some tables. It was so nice of our waitress telling us that we should not worry and to take our time anyway they still have some cleaning to do. Lobster? Need I say more? We ordered dinner to go and got the lobster, lobster stew and the chicken burger. The lobster was to die for. So why 4 stars you might ask? Well, they forgot to provide us with butter! Now, thankfully we had picked up butter with our grocery run, but if we wouldn't have, it would have been some major disappointment. The old blonde man put his hands on me when i attempted to send the clam chowder back. Each employee listened to me when i said it was inedible. Several patrons and an employee smelled it and said something is wrong with it. When i asked for my money back the old blonde guy came out raging at me yelling "Whats wrong with that clam chowdah!" He began berating me and told me people love it. I said i didn't. I said it's not personal and i wasn't trying to insult anyone, but he obviously had an unnatural attachment to that nasty, oily, and heavily Italian spiced soup with canned potatoes. I've never been grabbed at like that. I've never had a man scream at me to get the &$?@& out and never come back. It was humiliating. He demanded the receipt i was holding and tried to snatch it from me. This lunge at me startled me and I stepped back. Then he grabbed my hand and the receipt all while yelling at me. I was shook. My husband saw it all take place. He got out of our vehicle and was ready to stop the man who laid hands on me and cursed me out. I was crying. My husband took me in his arms and lead me away. So, in closing, i would warn any women to consider your safety if you stop here. Especially if you are alone or without a male friend. He would have never done that to a man.
