A very mini grocery store. I try to spread my business throughout Chinatown, so I go from the mini places, buy what I can, before moving up in size to buy more. New Gan Shan is one of the mini stores I go to. I usually buy dry noodles, snacks, sauces, and some of the crack seed snacks that are sold by weight in the glass jars. For the most recent trip, I bought a package of non-fried wonton noodle soup with soup mix (Hong Kong style), a package of Hong Kong style shrimp dry noodles (I have been eating these my whole life), and some Taiwan-made soft flour cake called sachima. These are common in multiple Chinese regions - Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Malaysia, etc. Lastly, I bought some preserved olives that are crack seed snacks. So yummy but not that good for me. Hehehe. The proprietor and the cashier both speak English and are very kind people. Of course, they try to upsell everything. Look at this, look at that, you should try that, etc. I don't mind. The store is brightly lit and looks very clean. It's one of the reasons why I continue to return.

I swear every time I come in here, I lose all sense of direction and walk out with a bag full of things I absolutely had to have. Today's damage included rainbow and white peppercorns, harissa, za'atar, the holy grail saffron, oh, and some nice-smelling soaps! This place is magical. It smells INCREDIBLE, the selection is amazing, and it's basically impossible to leave empty-handed. If you like spices, herbs, teas, or anything that makes you feel like a cozy lil kitchen witch, this place is heaven! Love it here!

They have plenty of fruit and veggies out front and a smaller selection inside. The meat selection and frozen goods are present but not overly large. They've got a good amount of sauces and a lovely selection of coconut milk and coconut cream - my best half enjoys it so that's what I came for! Prices were very reasonable, as expected, and the gal at the counter was very helpful! They require a purchase of at least $10 to use cards so plan accordingly. Dong Hing is listed here on Yelp, but it is actually located at 1001 S Jackson St. which is about three blocks from Dong Sing. The weird thing about this, is that this store used to be called Dong Hing Market several years ago. Got that? I wonder why each store decided on such similar names because it is confusing to Yelpers. Dong Sing is actually not very big, but it is one market located in the heart of Chinatown/I-District. Produce is piled high on the street for your perusal. Inside the market you will find groceries like you would find at Dong Hing or Hau Hau or Hop Thanh, but they carry a smaller selection due to limited size. They do have a meat and fish counter in the back however. I have found the prices here to be slightly higher than a few of their I-District counterparts, but still better than at a traditional supermarket. Overall, Dong Sing Market is decent and the location makes it worth a visit.

From all over. From people who create these products with passion. I own 4-5 brands (Mama Teav's, Hotpot Queen, etc.) of the jarred goodness sold here and thought I'd scoured. Nope! The owner Takeshi (Tak) introduced me to even more amazing products in jars that had me so happy! Wu Yin Taiwanese Black Vinegar, 50Hertz Tingly Foods Green Sichuan Pepper Oil, Crispy Ho Chili Crunch, Kuze Fuku & Sons Tartar Sauce, Superlova! Dan Dan Sauce, the list can go on and on... Do you know why? Because I tried 10, that's right 10 delectable things in jars. What?! The quality was so high for each one. There was a Shiitake Mushroom Spread I wanted to try that wasn't in the fridge that he wouldn't open and also I couldn't believe all he shared. I've never experienced so many samples in a store, before! I'd be in this store all the time if I lived here. I could tell he really cares about his mission. Oh look, they're online! Yay. But today it is as awesome as ever and my go to for vitamins and herbs. There are some extremely knowledgeable folks behind the herb counter, and very kind people at that. It's a great place for natural shampoos, soaps, honeys, herb-based chocolates, household products in addition to all of the vitamins and tinctures as well. AND they have an amazing loyalty program that has saved me a fair chunk when I'm ready to spend big. But unfortunately, today's visit will be my last. I came into the store with a general idea of what I wanted to purchase. There were 3 employees working and only one other customer in store. I didn't receive a greeting, any acknowledgment, or even a smile - nothing. I felt like my presence was a nuisance. Their selection of products is vast and impressive (+1 star), but overwhelming if you don't know exactly what you're looking for. I would be more knowledgeable of what to buy if staff would be helpful and open to questions. I walked up to someone stocking a shelf with products in my hands, said "excuse me?" to ask for help, and the person just scooted away without looking at me. Yeah, no. After walking a lap around the store trying to get anyone's attention, I waited near the register with products hoping they would at least try to cash me out. Nothing again. I waited 3-5 minutes without anyone coming to help or even a "I'll be right with you" although there were workers on the floor. I just put my products away and left. I can't support an establishment that prides itself on high vibes and wellness but makes their customers feel like sh!t. Today's experience has been consistent with the past 2-3 other times I've been in and I won't be returning.
