This buffet place has survived when multiple other businesses have not. They made it through covid. As for food it specializes in sheer number of food choices. Whether it is sushi or common Chinese dishes or even Mongolian barbeque, this place has it and all hotly cooked. You can definitely tell none of the food was frozen and reheated, but cooked in the back woks. The turnover in food helps to keep things fresher even if the quality isn't the best. I particularly like the hot Chinese dishes, the pork chops, teriyaki chicken, grilled chicken, stir fry veggies, broccoli beef, and some of them dim sum items like the siu mai and baos are pretty good even if not gourmet. The Mongolian BBQ is fresh and hot, my kids like to make their own creations and I usually get a plate there too. The sushi is pretty basic stuff, but they get creative, there was a mango topped one that's new today and it was pretty good. Their usual ones are good too. I like that there's a vast array of meat dishes here especially. Seating can easily accommodate a large party and multiple servers are always available to help. They are quite quick to take away used plates and silverware, and they wipe down tables fast too. They are friendly and will refill your drinks quickly too. Not fancy at all, very casual, but still they have kept this place up except for the dingy carpet. Prices are reasonable and there's senior discount of 10% and only kids 11 and over are considered adults. First time here. It's pretty much on par with other Chinese Buffets. Not much to really talk about. Only difference is, the set up is set so there's basically 3 lines: Entrees, Mongolian BBQ, Dessert So it can get easily piled. As for food options: The oysters had a light sauce on it, I didn't taste much. Could have work better with some sort of dipping sauce. Bring your own I guess? Cream cheese ragoons was good. the chicken on a stick was okay, a bit dry. the peking was okay. most of the food is exactly what you expect. Ice cream had a really confusing sign. It says "To go is not part of buffet package. Also Additional charge for ice cream." So is this additional charge for everyone? Mongolian was below standard. There is next to no sauce, so if you don't get the ginger and chili pepper. you have no flavor. he pours some oil on it, but that's about it. for choices there was; thin beef, pork, and steak. Took my family here to eat dinner on a Saturday night. They had so many options to choose from. Everyone was nice! Our server barely checked on us. He was running around do other things besides checking our table and seeing if we needed any refills. We went with 7 people and a newborn baby. They have a sign that says 8 people or more they charge a 12% gratuity to every bill. Surely they would not put this on our bill right? Wrong!! They slapped the 12% gratuity on the bill as if the baby was eating the buffet too! Mind you, new born who drinks milk. So I grabbed the bill and go see the cashier. The "waiter" sees me and proceeds to follow me. I talk to the cashier and tell her that they charge me the 8 people gratuity. She said correct, 3 children and 5 adults. I proceeded to tell her the baby did not eat. You cannot charge me a 12% gratuity on my bill for someone who cannot eat at the buffet. The waiter then tries his best, in his own language, to convince the girl that the 12% gratuity needs to be part of the bill. Then other staff get involved and they tried to tell me the baby counts as one person. I continued to argue with them and said no. I believe the manager came over and told the cashier something and they removed it. The whole time, the waiter who was "waiting" our table stood there looking mad asf. Took about 5 minutes of arguing my case. He made sure it was his mission to get that 12%. He didn't leave my side at the front until I was charged and signed the paper receipt. This place was so good. It is clean and the service was great! Now the food was fantastic. We choose what we wanted on our plates and the gentleman grilled it to perfection. There was plenty of meat and seafood selection. I'm so sorry for no pictures but we forgot to take them because we consumed our food and went for more () than we had our ice cream for dessert. Bathrooms were clean. We will definitely return and will take pictures. You can have a good conversation. Plenty of room no matter how large your group is. The place is very big. Plenty of parking. I'm pretty certain that the Oregon Trail ended at that place and the final challenge is to survive dysentery, cholera, tuberculosis, and a large quantity of farmed seafood soaked in oil, breading, and oddly sugar. And that's after the seafood was harvested from a large tank of recycled ammonia where these creatures were packed head to a$$ and the shrimp and fish sat eating each others $h!t for three square meals and two snacks a day. If you wear dentures I suggest you seismic retrofit those bad boys and epoxy them right to your gums in preparation for the cheese wontons and garlic toast. Also, consider putting tannerite in your bum hole, bending over and having someone stand back 300 yards to fire at it with SVD Dragunov. This will help you practice feverish prayers that you don't get your butt hole blown to smithereens in either situation. Usually, drinks are the unsung hero of a meal. I mean, really, how much can one do to a soda? Well, in this case one, specifically a waitress, can use sodas as a vehicle to carry gonaherpasyphaids to all the patrons. She coughed on the sodas like they were her detested rivals and she was participating in Olympic lung hurling. My son said the salmon tasted and smelled like feet. There was a dead fly laying next to it. I'm going to let you draw your own conclusions there, but honestly, I suspect it died in shock and shame. When two Yelp/foodie friends posted video review about Yum Buffet, I knew I had to try it. This South Sacramento Asian buffet really does have something for everyone. Mongolian BBQ station, Asian favorites like General Chicken, Honey Walnut Chicken, beef and broccoli, shu mai and more. Teriyaki chicken skewers were delicious. BBQ ribs were yummy. Lots of different kinds of shrimp- fried, cocktail, spot prawns and more. Lots of seafood like dungenous crab, mussels. Clams, oysters and even white fish. At $22.95 for an adult dinner, it's easy to get your money's worth. Lots of desserts, veggies, fresh fruit and more. Next time I'll bring a steak knife and crab tools. Our go-to option here is the Mongolian BBQ. I love the thick noodles with beef, onions, jalapeños, and mushrooms. I'd prefer to choose my own sauce mix, but they add their own sauce while cooking your meat, noodles, and veggies. I'd add a bit more garlic, ginger, and a drizzle of sesame oil. But their sauce mix was tasty too. It would be great to have bowls available, since things pile up fast when the food is uncooked (at the Mongolian BBQ section). The last time we had lunch here, I got full on their fresh sushi. I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was and went back a few times. The steam tray items were way too greasy (puddles of oil on my plate) and the hibachi grill took a long time. By the time my husband got hibachi and sat down to start eating I was already full from 2 plates. The hibachi was also quite bland. They have whole baby crab but it's also deep fried. We've come to this place before I had a pretty decent food experience. However, this last time that we went, the food was actually pretty concerning. I understand that seafood buffets can always be risky. Luckily nobody got sick, but I didn't notice the texture was different with The tuna sashimi. There was a huge selection of Chinese food that was tasty. I liked the imitation crab cheese bake as it was very flavorful. There is a lot of different seafood such as salmon, steamed fish (some type of white fish), clams, shrimp, calamari, and imitation crab. The make your own Mongolian BBQ was an awesome surprise! On May 17, 2025, around 1:00 p.m., my 17-year-old daughter and I came to Yum Buffet & Grill on Florin Road in Sacramento for lunch. What started as a normal outing turned into a very disturbing experience. While we were eating, my daughter went to use the women's restroom. When she came back, she was shaken. She told me that a male employee entered the restroom while she was inside a stall. Without announcing himself or checking if it was occupied, he started pushing open stall doors and sweeping with a broom and dustpan. She wasn't sure if another woman was in the restroom too, but she was terrified and rushed out. I immediately tried to report it to a staff member. A waitress said she didn't know who it was and got a manager. When I spoke to the female manager (white linen shirt), she initially didn't understand the seriousness until I explained, "Imagine if it were you in that restroom." She went to the back, then returned and said the worker was "new." That made me even more upset--new or not, basic respect and privacy matter. Why wouldn't they knock, announce themselves, or send a female employee? I paid the bill (even after they offered a discount) because I wanted proof we had been there. After leaving, I called 911 and later spoke to a Sacramento County Sheriff. He took our statements and said they'd speak with the manager. I understand they may be limited in action, but I believe it's now on record. I'm posting this so others are aware. If anything like this has happened to you or someone you know at this restaurant, please come forward. We need to hold places accountable for keeping safe, respectful environments, especially for young women. Photos of the restaurant and the 911 call record are available. I liked the fried bananas and Chinese doughnuts for dessert, but there's also bananas in Strawberry glaze for those who are health conscious. I took my parents here for my dad's birthday at his request, and I can see why he wanted it. For a buffet, this place offers a lot more than you'd expect, especially given the price point. Chinese food and sushi are the main draws here. The sushi itself was a miss for me, but the sashimi was pretty good. The place is big and by 12:00pm was full and I went around just to see the foods selection again and it was always full and well stocks I was very impressed. My fav is the Mongolian stir fry bar, it was so fun to add the things you want to the noodle and there is an option to get tacos as well. There were many foods section mostly Asian foods but there is pizza and chicken wings as well. They also have great selection of sushi. It was only $14.99/ person. TLDR: The food has gotten better! I will upload pictures in a sec, but comparing the pictures I took in 2018 to last week, the food has definitely improved in quality and variety (at least quality). The Mongolian wok though, needed cleaning, my kids' Mongolian grill noodles had specks of black char on them (they didn't care, but the mom in me did), I didn't try that item. Detailed Review: Haven't been here since pre-CVD so about five (actually 6!) years ago! Prices have gone up but not significantly which was surprising. I think it was $12.99 or so when I last ate here. Now it's $14.99 Mon to Sat for lunch which is pretty good considering that at any other sit down restaurant, 1 dish would set you back $15 or more. There were 8 of us total with 4 being (very obviously over 65 y.o.) seniors and 2 adults and 1 kid over 12 and 1 under 12 and they missed 2 of the seniors. When my in laws pointed that out, they said if you don't ask, they don't apply the senior discount, so that's why they only included my in laws bc we asked them if they still do the senior discount while we were waiting for my parents to arrive. So they only counted my in-laws. Anyways, the lady ended up giving $3 cash back to my Mil for the 10% discounts for my parents, it's really not much just $1.49 a senior. The food was pretty good and plentiful, lots of variety. I had a lot of sushi rolls and nigiri. My kids liked the Mongolian grill the best, but they also enjoyed the sushi and dessert sections. The hot Chinese food section was pretty decent. You can see my fil was in buffet heaven as he's usually very restricted in his diet, he loaded up his plate like there's no tomorrow. We all did pretty good and enjoyed the food. I thought the variety was really quite extensive. The flan was better than home made ones I've had so that was notable, also the kiwi and pineapples were both good and I don't often have those fruits so I had some for the VitC . Dinner is more, but we'd not come after dark here anyways as it's not the safest area and it's best not to eat that much in the evening. This is one of many Chinese buffets that I have been to, that have opened up in a space that used to house a hometown buffet. The people were very friendly, and the place was very clean. They had a very large selection. They have a salad bar, a large sushi section, a Mongolian barbecue station that includes shrimp and krab among the proteins. (They have several dishes that they say has crab in it, but it's actually the imitation crab meat. It still tastes very good. That's why I am spelling it with a K.) They had steamed and fried rice, four different kinds of soups, (I had the krab egg drop soup, and it was delicious! ). They have a good selection of seafood, both hot and cold, and many different Chinese dishes, including things you would find on a standard Chinese buffet, and also things like Ma po tofu, they had saury and capelin, which are fish popular in the Asian diet, they even had, sautéed pigs feet. I'm an adventurous eater, but even for me, that one was a hard "no." They had a krab and cheese casserole that tasted good, but it was a bit oily for my personal taste. Probably from all the cheese. They have American favorites like garlic bread, pizza, fried chicken, onion rings as well . There are definitely enough selections to make everybody happy. to me, the overall food was very good. A couple of the items were warm instead of hot, but hey, it's a buffet. Overall, the high majority of the food was perfect temperature. They also have a good dessert bar as well. The two negatives were pretty minor, and not worth taking away a star over. This huge selection was only the lunchtime menu. I can hardly imagine what's on the dinnertime menu. Lunch is opening until 3:30 PM Monday through Saturday, and then dinner is after 3:30 PM and all day Sunday. A fantastic meal, drink, tax, and tip, and I was out the door only about 20 bucks. Came here since I was in the area for a business trip. Not the worst, not the best. Price wise and selection wise, it's pretty good. It's about $15/person for lunch on even weekends which is rare. Selection wise, they have a Mongolian grill, sushi bar, and your standard Chinese buffet fare. Some dim sum, clams, chicken wings, and various seafood salads. The reason I'm knocking it down is mainly the quality. Some of the food is a bit cold (not referring to sushi). Like for something like yakitori or chicken wings, they should be hot. But this is more lukewarm, almost border cold which is a bit disappointing. Same goes with some of the seafood. That said, dessert wise, it's pretty decent. Buns, sesame balls, cream puffs and some others were all available. Same goes with ice cream. The ice cream is in pre-packaged containers in which while it's free while you eat in restaurant, it's $1 extra for to go. So I'd suggest eating it at the restaurant. Service wise is pretty good. Quite a few workers around to help clear plates quickly and they're attentive too. Bonus if you speak Mandarin since most of the workers speak Mandarin. As for the restaurant itself, I will say it's kept pretty well. The restaurant is cleaner than some other restaurants I've been to which was a pleasant surprise as far as buffets go. So would I come back? Maybe if I was in the mood for a Chinese buffet in Sacramento and was in the area for a reason. I've been going to Yum Buffet for years and this place has always been consistent. They have a wide variety from sushi, cold selection (Salad and seafood), hot entrees, Mongolian Bbq, and dessert. Some of my favorite items are the sushi, fried chicken wing, pigs feet, Mongolian bbq, coffee cake and the ice cream. The customer service is on point too. They are always clearing off plates and I've never had a bad experience here. It's nothing fancy but just simple good Chinese buffet food. My only complain would be the food isn't hot, some of the food is cold, and they should fix the warmers. But besides that, I would highly recommend this place! Our first time at Yum buffet and it was a thumbs up from our family. The restaurant is clean, plenty of tables for big parties, the floor was kept up and didn't smell like a wet mop. Only thing I wish the plates wasn't placed where it was but I have been seeing other restaurants do this too. They have plenty of foods to choose from! A great selection starting from ice cream/dessert bar, sushi bar, salad bar. Jump over to hot foods. Everything was tasty! The noodle bar area is great too! But only downside is it lacked flavor in the seasoning area for your noodles. Overall we enjoyed it and would highly recommend and we will return! read more
