Fuji is an Elk Grove staple and one of my favorite restaurants to visit! I come here at least once a month and it does not disappoint! When you first step in, you are greeted by friendly staff and they ask you if you'd like a seat by the boats or a table. Their menu isn't the biggest but it has exactly what I look for. Ordering food there isn't like your usual restaurant, you have walk up to the middle and talk to the chef for sashimi, rolls and hand rolls. For appetizers like soft shell crab and grilled yellowtail collar, you can order them at the table with server. I'm a raw fish person, so I typically order salmon and yellowtail sashimi, and since I order it so much I don't even have to tell the chef sometimes! I always ask for the "large" sashimi plates, as they don't do a specific number of pieces per order, and it usually has over 10 decently sized pieces. Orders come out pretty quick, I would say between 5-10 minutes. Sometimes the chef will ask you to stand to the side for a minute and they'll have it ready. If I were to recommend some things to order, it'd be the You're the Man hand roll and the spicy seared salmon! They're so delicious and no other place has something like it! The restaurant gives off a "home-y" vibe and I really enjoy being there when it's busy. The boats going around in the water while carrying food adds to the aesthetic and it's fun looking around trying to find the things you want. I always go for the salmon and unagi nigiri! Best AYCE place in Elk Grove!! My friends and I decided to come here last minute and hour before they closed and they were so welcoming and patient. Our food came out immediately after ordering and they ensured that we would be able to order all the food we would like. Salmon was super fresh and not fishy AT ALL. I originally went to their buffet in Davis and was thrilled when they opened up in Elk Grove They have many options for rolls along with the many dishes served in the boats floating around the bar. I have no complaints!!! None!!! The best ever along with the excellent customer service. I use the low sodium soy sauce and one of the servers remembered. Now that is what I call 'epic' customer service!!! All people attending are considered family. I've seen new dishes and tried them after speaking to my neighbors sitting at the bar with me. We tried the magic carpet (salmon Pokemon on a fried piece of cracker), fried soft shell crab, fried oysters, 6 miso soups, salmon belly, sashimi (tuna, hamachi, and salmon), rainbow roll, half an order of fish roll, salt and pepper chicken wings, cooked scallop sashimi, Tsing Tao beer, shrimp tempura, fried banana, sliced oranges, piece of chocolate mousse cake, edamame, chicken teriyaki. The sushi boat bar is located right in the center of the restaurant and all the seating area is pretty much set up around it or in front of it. Again, we are starting to gear more towards this type of style for eating sushi as you can have smaller portions instead of getting a whole complete role And possibly having a chance of not liking the whole role and it gives the opportunity to try out different types of roles. There were also side dishes, like edamame and seaweed salad with a couple of plates that sent it around being desserts and or fruits like oranges. Sushi rolls were also good but they do pack on rice. I liked the marinated beansprouts like those Korean restaurants have for side dishes. Some of the negative reviews talk about 10 years ago with fancy sushi choices, low prices, and a fabulous Chinese Buffet. Then came the pandemic which closed the buffet for a long time. So now for my review. I came here for lunch and sat at the sushi boat bar. It was so much fun watching the boats go by with all you can eat items. Nice sushi such as california, shrimp and salmon rolls. There were other items also. There is a menu that you can also order various dishes, such as vegetable tempura, rice and other items, all included unless you wish to purchase an upgraded item. Drinks are not included. I really enjoyed my experience, as there are very few sushi boats left. The restaurant was very clean and the price was higher than 10 years ago, but well worth what I paid. Wow, this place has gone down so much. Back maybe 12-15 years ago, Fuji Sushi was THE place for sushi. Our friends and college buddies would make the trek to Davis to fill up on AYCE sushi. When they opened this location in Elk Grove, everyone was happy because EG was a lot closer than Davis. There were a ton of great rolls and you had a huge section of hot foods too, like chow fun, chicken teriyaki, soups, etc. It was great. My brother and his friends used to brag about polishing off 15-20 plates of sushi. We decided to check it out this past Monday. It's located in the Wal-Mart shopping center on Elk Grove Blvd. We reminisced about the days when people would be standing in line around the building waiting to get in. During Monday lunch, there were plenty of tables. Menu was short. Appetizers included miso soup, fried bananas, gyoza and a few other items that I can't remember. You could pick plates off the floating boats or order some off the menu. My brother and mom complained that all the rolls seemed very similar---full of imitation crab. There was no variety like there used to be. They used to have inari, tamago, and all sorts of fun varieties. Not anymore. The miso soup was awful and tasted like maybe someone was trying to save money and purchased subpar miso soup packets. My brother ordered hot tea so I followed suit (honestly to save my mom from lecturing me about how bad it is to drink ice water). Didn't realize they'd be charging us about $3 each for hot tea. My dad is usually a really positive person but he also said that it was the worst sushi and meal. It's one thing if it's bad sushi but inexpensive. We felt like $25 a person for what we got was too spendy. My brother felt like the owners must just be in it for the money now, and no longer care about food quality. We theorized that maybe Covid caused the business to change. Or maybe there's been an ownership change since we last went. On 7/20/25 we had lunch for 3 with tip it cost $100. Not bad for all you can eat but the types of fish was limited and the tuna was tough and stringy. Sushi tune must be buttery smooth this was chewy with a slight after taste that was just off. Maybe it was an off day but the place was nearly empty.
