I love supporting small business and super excited that a bahn mi location has opened in Modesto! I want to say that their portion sizes matches equally with their prices. I'd say it's a good bang for your buck I was reading that some people's sandwiches were small but I think that issue has been resolved. I enjoyed my grilled chicken bahn mi. The bread was warm, and toasty. The chicken was charred, the veggies were packed nicely and equal ratio of everything. I also ordered their shrimp spring rolls and they were also good. Saw a TikTok video that announced y'all were finally open (soft opening) and my husband and I have been anxiously awaiting to try you guys out. Was happily greeted and informed about the sandwiches and available coffees. The place was clean, plenty of tables available, and the cooler had some sodas and water stocked. Needs some decor but the guts of it is ready to go. We chose the grilled pork and the char siu pork sandwiches as well as two condensed milk coffees. The sandwiches were good! The veggies had a nice flavor and were crisp and fresh. Bread was soft yet crunchy. The grilled pork sandwich was a bit more meatier than the char siu one. Would have liked a bit more meat but not the end of the world here. Coffee was strong and tasty like it should be! It didn't fill the cup all the way, and maybe I'm just spoiled from other places that do that but not a big deal because it's so strong as it is. However I would hope they upgrade their straws as it was difficult to stab into the cup. Just need a little stronger straws. We ended up using our straws at home. I was really excited for this place because it's much closer to home but I think I'll drive a little further for my next Vietnamese sandwich. The price for one sandwich was a little high but because there aren't very many banh mi places around the area, I thought I would give them a pass... However, what they sell does not justify their price at all. As I was walking to the car with two sandwiches in the bag, I knew I was going to be disappointed just from the weight, it felt like air. The size of the bread is very small. It's a little longer than half of a normal sized bread for Vietnamese sandwiches. There was very little meat in the sandwich, and a few strands of veggies. ** I added a picture. When you look at the picture, it looks like it is only half of the sandwich. But in reality I only took ONE bite from the whole sandwich. I was so disappointed and embarrassed! I definitely would not spend $8.75 for this sandwich, especially when I can spend less for double the size somewhere else in town like Le Saigon. I'm very curious to know how the owners would react if this is what they get when they pay almost $9 for a Vietnamese sandwich. As a business, it's great because you're making money. But as a patron, you're definitely getting robbed here. The price doesn't match the product. Anyway, if you're wondering about the quality of the food here... My husband and I both ordered the grilled pork banh mi and Vietnamese iced coffee. 1. Vietnamese iced coffee: Unfortunately, it was much too sweet for our taste. The condensed milk-to-coffee ratio felt a little heavy, and there was also a lot of ice. I personally prefer the Vietnamese coffee at Teaspoon Modesto, which has a better balance for my taste. 2. Grilled pork banh mi: The bread itself was really good--nice and crunchy! However, the sandwich was quite small and had little vegetables. The grilled pork also lacked flavor, so we ended up adding soy sauce. Perhaps a little sugar or additional seasoning to help caramelize the pork would make a big difference. I still prefer it to Pho Island's banh mi, their grilled pork was way too salty. 3. Service: The staff was friendly and the service was good overall. 4. Napkins: There were no napkins in our bag or available on the counter. We had to ask, and it still took a while for someone to bring them. Overall, we left feeling a little underwhelmed and felt that the portions weren't quite enough to satisfy our appetite. That said, we know this is a new business, and we're rooting for them! Finally a good banh mi in the valley. The flavor was really good, we got the chicken banh mi and the pork with a fried egg. The lemongrass flavor on the chicken was great, just enough. We met the owner and he's very nice, he makes everything in house, the bread, sauces and even the cold cuts ! We wanted to order the plate, but they said they weren't able to make it because they were busy. We ended up getting the cold cut and char siu sandwiches along with a condensed milk coffee. Our order was unfortunately skipped, so we ended up waiting almost an hour. Once we brought it to their attention, though, they were very kind about it, apologized, and made our order right away. Initially, the employee claimed that she already called our order and suggested that someone else probably picked it up. We listened to every order that was called and the only time they called our number was for our drink. Despite the long wait, the bánh mì were good and filling. There was a little inconsistency with the fillings where one sandwich had noticeably more veggies than the other. The coffee was also good, although I think it could've been a little stronger. They do have tables and chairs if you want to sit and eat, which is nice although all of the seating was taken up by people waiting (including us) for their orders while we were there. One suggestion I'd have is to have more than one bánh mì station to make the preparation process more efficient. There were two employees working at the station, and it seemed like they were getting in each other's way, especially when they had to wait for the other person to grab an ingredient. It might also help to move the meat slicing and prep to the back, which could free up space for another bánh mì station. Alternatively, the sandwiches could be assembled in the back as well. Either option could help streamline the process, reduce wait times, and improve the overall customer experience. read more

Tried out this place for the first time today. I was super excited for a legit banh mi spot, however, the lack of flavor and bread needs to be worked on. Customer service was phenomenal, but I prefer bomb food. The bread was crunchy on the outside, inside was soft, yet almost doughy and light, to where it needs to be baked a bit longer. The combination/cold cut sandwich lacked a lot of flavor, which is truly hard to mess up. Chicken sandwich was better, and the grilled pork had the most flavor. The beef dish I got looked good, but flavor was just not for me. Overall this place needs improvement for the lack of flavor. I was disappointed, and I hope they improve in their flavor and bread in order to stay in business for the long run. Yes I cannot compare them to Duc Huong in SJ or Sac, or Nom Pang in Vegas. But definitely need lots of work, because Saigon still got them beat. Give it a try, but please please bring something different to Modesto, because this is not it. read more
