I've been here two times in the last year, the most recent being a few weeks ago. I was not impressed by my experience. Service was okay. The rolls where pricy and I didn't care for what I ordered. The rolls contained a large amount of rice and not much fish. And if you l,ike sauces, they were dry. But I know some people like them that way. Overal an okay experience, the food was okay, just not worth the bill when I know I can get better sushi for 1/2 the price 3 miles down the road. read more

My daughter and I had our favorite sushi roll, spicy crunchy scallop roll, it was fabulous! My mom had tempura shrimp and immediately said she would be back. Same with my youngest daughter and her boyfriend. The service was impeccable. I will definitely be back! read more

The restauraunt itself is fairly small, able to accommodate only about 6-7 tables. The atmosphere, however, is modern and elegant. The folded cloth napkins are a nice touch. My experience with the food was inconsistent. The tempura was excellent, maybe the best ever. The asparagus/cucumber sushi was just as good--probably the best of its type in Lodi--and the salad with house dressing was good too. On the other hand, the chicken teriyaki was lackluster. I wouldn't get it again the next time I'm there. Family I was with had a similar reaction to their meals. I don't recall the prices but they seemed reasonable. As far as Japanese restaurants in Lodi go, I would still take Haru Sushi or Shi Ra Soni 2 first (they're different styles of Japanese food) because of the top-notch quality of their food, then Yume, and finally Matsyuama as a distant third. read more

The calamari was good over the vinegar. The sushi was dry needed more sauce. Price was too much for what they were serving.

If you appreciate simplicity and preparation that highlights the fish instead of the SAUCE this is the place. They do not have a menu that takes 10 minutes to read like most Japanese restaurant in the area and I think it is a good thing because what they do offer is done right. If you are thinking of venturing away from your tried and true sushi spot I highly suggest giving YUME a shot. read more

We discovered they make Inari sushi so we decided to try them out last night. They were fantastic, so were the California and Dragon rolls and Unagi Nigiri. The staff were also very friendly. We will definitely be back! read more

This place is great with service and are friendly to every customer they greet from entering the premises to leaving with a full stomach. The appetizers were delicious, especially the egg plant appetizer they served, as well as the main course menu items as the spicy ramen is definitely a treat I will never forget. Yume's may be the best Japanese restaurant in California. Massa is truly an artist and prepares outstanding sushi and traditional dishes. We first went there shortly after it opened, four or five years ago. We were "sushi bar hopping" and ended up going back there for seconds. The chicken teriyaki I was served did not seem grilled. It looked like diced scrap chicken pieces with too much sugar or sweetener and some vaguely oriental non-teriyaki flavoring. It was more like a thick soup or stew and I would not have been able to guess this was teriyaki if I had not known that is what was ordered. If I tilted the plate the blob would have just oozed off- in decades of eating this in Japan and the U.S. this was more than a disappointment. It was quite literally the worst dish I've ever been served in Japanese restaurant. Teriyaki should not float! That much sugar or sweetener should not be poured on to "Americanise" a dish and it was extremely insulting to serve this. The sushi and tempura was good and this is a real shame as Lodi could use another good Asian restaurant.. The sushi was what you would receive when you order this in Japan. Seafood requires a high level of skill and I have no doubt that the chef has that skill. The question is one of either supervision or judgment and I am not willing to risk a repeat of the teriyaki experience with something like raw fish. They boast freshness but that can be a double edged sword. In the future I would not be comfortable going there again or recommending them. read more

Me and my friends ordered squid vinegar, udon noodle soup, chicken teriyaki, crunchy rainbow roll and Mochi ice-cream. Squid vinegar was so good and it was deep fried squid with ponzu sauce. Chicken teriyaki was good. I liked how they grilled the chicken and sauce was perfect. Sushi was duper good. The owner, sushi chief is from japan. He knows how to make real sushi!!! This is like Koyoto in Japan very very clean straight forward simple and beautiful food that has fantastic taste. This is the real deal!

Before I went to the restaurant I had a high expectation because of the yelp review. So I looked at the menu on online and ordered salmon tataki roll. First thing I noticed was it was VERY VERY small. The taste was okay but I had better ones before. Wasabi was also not as strong as komachi or oz. If you are into fresh Sashimi and actual enjoy eating it without any special sauce, this place is for you. I was "batchin" it since my better half just had a tooth pulled. I felt like sushi and one of my Facebook friends had just posted that this place was "outstanding" Since they do not seem to have an internet presence (no webpage, no menus posted) I had to drive there to see what this place was. I walked in and identified that I wanted to place a "to go" order. I picked up a small menu from a counter near the front door and began looking. The waitress said that she would bring me the "big" menu. Here it came (it was a bigger copy of the paper one at the front door). Since I am a Vegetarian, I began to look for what they offered for those of us that do not eat animal flesh. To my dismay, they had only one roll ( an avocado/cucumber roll for $8.00) that had no meat at all. I asked the waitress what else they had for weird customers like me. She said there was nothing. I asked if they would make FutoMaki ( a staple on most sushi restaurant menus). She said no. I asked if they would make a roll out of Tempura Vegetables. She said no. I asked if they had any other non-flesh offerings. She again shook her head. No. I left shaking my head. At least 10% of the population has made the choice to not eat animal flesh. I guess this restaurant wants to only serve the other 90%. read more

So far, So good. The food seems much fresher than my former favorite 'paradise' of sushi. The service staff is learning, but eager to get it right. I wish I could get my tea in a pot instead of waiting, I think I'll mention that, they seem open to suggestion. The rolls are beautiful with not to much fancy junk, ( just the right amount of sauce & flavored oils) very artistic. Even the Unagi Nigiri was pretty. My stand-by at any new sushi place is Agedashi Tofu, it was very good, with a different texture on the coating and large soft tofu. The wakame salad was not to salty or hot, and not dried out, wonderful. I look forward to seeing this business grow, lovely to have somewhere close to home and work. There is no sake or beer yet, but it is to come in the next month or so. We have made three visits, not bad food yet!! read more

I was visiting Lodi with family and this dinner pick was based on the yelp reviews (4.5) and the fact that it was Japanese run. I do not post, as most of the time the yelp reviews are fairly accurate and I am just not that motivated to post. I find the yelp posts to far off the mark to stay on mute in this case. I have to respectfully disagree with 5 stars and would have to stretch pretty hard to agree with 4 stars based on my own sushi restaurant experiences. I am from the Bay Area (Hayward, Pleasanton side) and do not frequent sushi bars in the Central Valley -- maybe worth 4 stars just because there are no other decent choices in the Central Valley area?? ?? The restaurant is located in a strip mall with ample parking and easy access. It is a smaller place that appears clean on the consumer side. Open strip mall type eating setup with limited uniqueness in Japanese style decorating (standard Formica tables, no wood booths, etc). Friendly staff, adequate staffing and pretty good service. Prices are decent, but not cheap. Menu is limited with many classic Japanese dishes not on the menu. No food or beverage "extras" were served with our visit. We had a very large party so to be realistic one would not expect a small place to plate every one at the same time, but when there are three kids sitting at the table and you are looking for repeat business you either bring them their food first, not last as in our case, or you throw fifty cents of edamame on the table. Food portions for the cooked plates are on the small side and are pretty plain Jane when presented at the table, not what I am used to for 4.5 star sushi bars. As an example, the teriyaki beef came with a wide swath of plain white rice and a smaller portion of beef and onion combo and a small plain mixed green salad, nothing else on the plate. The plate presentation is pretty much what I throw together on occasion for my family after a long day on the job. If this dinner plate presentation were my job it would be fairly rated as just OK. Cooked food tasted fine although I would guess the beef was only select grade as not a lot of flavor other than the onions and a little firm even though it was cut thin. Sushi roll was good sized and tasted good. The amount of fish used in the preparation was about as light as you could get and still call it a sushi roll instead of a rice roll. I polled six in our group and came up with a 2.8 for rating. (The rating is competing against Bay Area and LA bars). No disrespect to the bar, but I just felt the yelp descriptions needed a reality check on the 4.5 rating as it is unfair to bars which are exceptional and do deserve a higher rating than this bar. Probably a decent place to eat at if you are local to Lodi, but not a 4.5 star "drive to" destination for out of area sushi dinners. read more

Excellent food and presentation. Masa is a traditional chef and his skill shows in his food. The atmosphere intimate and friendly.

This place was cozy, clean and beyond delicious! Our waitress was very personable, answered all of our questions, gave some great sake recommendations, but wasn't overly chatty. Everything was perfect. The chef had the freshest melt-in-your-mouth nigiri and the presentation for all the food matched the flavor. We had a spicy tuna roll and a spicy salmon roll. I would highly recommend and definitely plan on going back. One note: it's a cozy place, so large groups should plan ahead. read more

we were pleasantly surprised. the service was great, and food was incredible. we had the seaweed salad, which is always a favorite. the sashimi appetizer was so fresh - each piece of fish almost melted in your mouth. then i had the salmon cilantro roll, filled with delicious baby tomatoes (i'm super picky when it comes to eating tomatoes outside of coming fresh from the garden. call me a #tomatosnob), avocado, cilantro and of course, salmon. so delicious! oh! and to mention, they didn't use a seaweed wrap - not sure what it was, but it was maroon and tasted amazing. i'm a soy paper kind of sushi eater, so this was right up my alley. my boyfriend had the asparagus roll. i won't lie i was hesitant about this one since it's not asparagus season (starting to sound like a total ag asshole, but seriously) but the snow crab paired with the avocado and asparagus was perfect. we'll definitely be back. read more

Love this place. My partner and I went wine tasting for a few days and were looking forward to some sushi since we are from a very little town that does not offer it. We wanted to try this place and the other local sushi establishment but once we ate here, it was a done deal. We decided to come back and eat what we didn't have the first time. Plenty of seating, the waitresses are very attentive, gives honest answers on the food available and not shy about saying what is their favorite. There is not one thing I did not like there, I HIGHLY recommend this place and I am very sorry we are five hours away or I would eat here at least three times a week. The owner/chef wants you to be happy. I loved everything we ordered, came so fast too and have to try the Yume prawn appetizer. I can't say enough about this place! read more

I thoroughly enjoy the intimate restaurant. The food is excellent, and the service is warm and friendly. We ordered mixed tempura, spicy chicken teriyaki, california roll, and miso soup. Everything was tasty! My son said even tofu in the miso soup was great! The spicy chicken was lightly spicy and balanced with sweet. I also appreciated the flavorful dark meat that was quality.
