The décor is unique, beautiful, and really adds to the experience. While I was waiting for my order, I asked a few customers if they had been there before. This is such a fun concept, well executed. Build your own hibachi! My friend was on the hunt for an eatery that provides meat for her (omnivore) but also a satisfying plant-based meal for me (vegan). She found the perfect place. How it works: Guests are seated, given a card to denote table number, name, rice preferences and special instructions, if any. Order drinks at the table. The server gives each person a bowl which you then go and fill with raw ingredients, buffet style. Your bowl, card and sauces are left on a tray. Once grilled by the hibachi chefs, the food is put on a bed of rice and returned to you steaming hot and delicious. Pricing: Regular dinner bowls are $15. For $5 more, you can convert your order to "all you can eat" and repeat the process, as my friend did. Fountain drinks are automatically bottomless. This was a really fun way to enjoy dinner with my friend. I would love to come back with her again sometime. My only criticism is, despite the appearance of the raw food being bright and fresh, the texture and taste gave the impression that much of the produce I had in my bowl was from frozen. To start off with, we come here a lot, literally a lot like at least once a week. But today will be our last time. My husband and I usual order are 2 bowls, 1 or 2 sushi rolls and then we will ask for a small empty bowl to make a portion for my 2-year-old. However, today I ordered 1 bowl for me so I can share it with my 2 y.o, as usual. My husband didn't feel like eating so he had a soft shell crab appetizer, and 1 volcano roll. I made a portion for my son in an empty bowl so my husband can feed him so I can eat. And that's how the harassment started. We got harassed TWICE, BACK TO BACK from 2 different servers. The first server straight approached us with the menu, pointed at the policy part and say "we have this policy no sharing yada yada". I stared back at him and said, "We are not sharing, my son is 2 y.o, what do you mean I cannot share my food with my son." "Oh I thought your husband is eating from that bowl." My husband said " I do not eat it, this is for my son, and I am feeding him." "Oh okay I just want to make sure that you know the policy." Then he walked away. No sorry or whatsoever from him. Five minutes later a second server approached and said the exact same thing. I stared at her and again said my son is 2 what do you mean?! She said oh sorry I thought that was your husband was eating. So my son just eat and breathe air? My husband couldn't stand anymore and told them how harassed they are to us right now. We ended the meal and packed everything home. At least this time the second server apologized and said that's her 2nd day working here. Nevertheless, there are multiple ways to handle the situation. I used to be a server for 5+ years and I really don't like the way they approach and make assumptions about us sharing food like that, at all. They didn't even bother asking if my husband was eating from that small bowl or not to start with. I later told my husband, "if I was the one fed our son from the small bowl, they probably wouldn't said that to us." My husband said "Feeding the kid is both mom and dad's duty. Who says only the mother can feed the kid?" The menu says 3 and under are exclusive from the no sharing policy. It doesn't say anything about if one person eat the bowl, the entire party has to order bowl or If one person eat sushi roll, the entire party has to do the same. Negative!!!! I went in for lunch and it was a bit chilly so we opted to sit net the hibachi grill for a little warmth. There want too many people at fort but they started to fill in. There were a lot of different options on the menu. I opted for the yummy bowl where you get in line and pick your own ingredients, seasonings and sauces and the hibachi cooks make it and it is delivered to your table hot n fresh. It was so good! One thing to note is they do have signage that says if your bowl ends up needing a second bowl you will be charged the all you can eat price. Yummy Bowl is a newer Mongolian grill type of restaurant. It's popular during lunch and a fave of the military community. It's a nice space that can accommodate groups and find a spot to sit fairly quickly, which makes it decent for the lunch crowd. The pricing is pretty good for the ability to load up your bowl, and depending on hunger level, possibly have leftovers too. I always order the build your own bowl, and that's my best recommendation here, for affordability and quantity of food. Just know how to build it right and pile it on without it spilling over, haha! My friend tried the sushi on one of our visits and wasn't a fan. I would stick to what they are known for and focused on, which are the bowls. Compared to some other places across RVA, my only gripe is the flavors could be more pronounced here in the bowls. It seems that however you season it is all you get, whereas sometimes at other places they add a little razzle dazzle seasoning to ensure it's perfect. Also, be sure to add your yum yum and other sauces at the end of the build your bowl station, or there won't be any and that also will limit flavor without having it. One oddity is they have Pepsi products on fountain, but coke in bottles- not diet or zero sugar. So just a good to know for those who are team one or the other. I've been really wanting to check out this place for awhile and I'm glad I did. The food was delicious and the prices are amazing. My husband got the shrimp yummy bowl and really liked it and I got the 3 rolls lunch special and the sushi was fresh. I also got the pan fried gyoza which was good. The only reason I subtracted a star was because I wasn't a fan of the large shared tables they had, I couldn't imagine eating there when it's busy, and because as a first timer I was a bit confused how the DIY yummy bowl would work and some explanation would've been great. read more

Fill your bowl with what you want and they cook it. Eating there vs to go seemed pricy. It's one set price there but they weigh it if you get it to go (from what I understand). But it was very fresh, it was a lot of items to choose from on the bowl. We tried so many different things. Chicken, shrimp, steak, sausage, and tons of veggies. Pretty delicious. It was really easy to get our food right when they open, and it gets super crowded around 11:30. They bring you a paper when they take your drink orders and you write your name and which table you are on and then select if you want brown rice, steamed rice, or fried rice. I actually just wanted noodles with mine so I did not mark any rice and they did not give me any rice. That would come in really helpful when you are doing the all you can eat option. They do not substitute noodles, even if you ask for it, though, you still have to include those in your bowl as you're stacking veggies and proteins. The food itself tasted pretty good. They have little bowls for you to put the sauce in so it doesn't burn on the grill, and they appear to have little spoons for tasting. All of the sauces we tried in our bowls were tasty. The meat was cooked pretty well, the veggies were perfectly done, it was a little more oily than I generally like, but it soaks into the rice in the bottom of the bowl if you go the rice option. I would definitely come again for how tasty the food was. They have tons of different options for vegetables and meats. I really like that they appear to pre-blanch some of the veggies like broccoli that take longer to cook, so it cooks the broccoli and carrots and other hard vegetables about the same time that the meat is cooked and they don't have to overcook your meat options. I always like when they take the time to put that attention on little details like not wanting undercooked veggies or overcooked meat. Since we arrived at a good time, we actually got our food really quickly. Once it gets crowded, though, the entire space was filled with people's plates waiting to get cooked, so I definitely would not come by when it's super crowded. Or when I'm super hungry. Avoid the lunch rush. They did have different prices listed on the wall than in the menu. I know restaurants frequently do that when they have to raise prices, but for a restaurant that only opened about two weeks ago, I kind of expected their prices and other info to all be up-to-date. The restaurant is kind of a cool mix of industrial wide open, dark aesthetic, with little hints of Asian or oriental decor thrown in. It's nice to be big and open like that because I did think some of the tables were a little too close together. I did like that our server brought over the paper when I forgot it, and she specifically showed us how to put our bowl, grab a tray, leave our name tag face up on the tray so they could read it, and she essentially walked us through the steps on how to build the bowls. It was really nifty if you've never gone to a Mongolian barbecue place for her to be so helpful. I will definitely be back. read more

This restaurant did it for me! I waited a while to try them out and I'm glad I did. I went in April 18th for my daughter's 18th birthday dinner. It was myself, my son and my daughter. We were greeted nicely and quickly our waiter came over and explained how everything works. He was patient and answered our questions. We ordered 2 yummy bowls, 3 sushi rolls, and crab Rangoon. The bowls you create yourself and I stacked mine and seasoned it well! I love you can add on an all you can eat option. The crab Rangoon was "ok". I am so happy to have a new restaurant that is worth stopping at in colonial heights. This place reminds me of Ghengis in Shortpump, however, the bowl size is HUGEEEE. Upon entry of the line for the stir fry bowl, you start by piling loads of veggies into your selection bowl (fruits if that's your style). It is imperative that you stack the veggies with precision. If you add slices of zucchini or the green onions around the side you can build it even bigger! Next you add your choices of meats (there are several options I won't be trying but if you like squid or whatever else there is then this is for you). Pile the meat on top as heavy as you can without spilling. Next it's time for spices. Choose a few cups of dressings next and hand off your bowl to join your bases on the hot table. A few minutes later you have a bangin story fry. I had to try a sushi the first time in, spider roll was awesome. The seats are a little close together to the next table for my preference but if that bothers you, ask for a booth. Nice place really, I will be back. read more

As a new restaurant in the area( all the rave), I have visited a few times. Each time food has been amazing. However upon a visit with a friend noted they charged us dinner price at lunch. We SAT to eat at 230pm and cashed out at 320pm. After we paid brought it to the attention of the manager to verify they do in fact charge at time of seating. Days later another friend who visited during dinner time, stated after leaving a $5 tip, had a server bring it back and DEMAND she paid the 20 percent as stated on receipt. This is a SUGGESTED tip amount. Just curious if the servers aren't aware, or trying to get over dollar at a time? Price point is good, and hope they maintain prices . I'm from out of town and I came in for to go order. Had my food all ready and at the front counter and there is one cashier who is taking a phone order for over 15 minutes. Another gentleman in front of me was also waiting to get his food. It's kind of ridiculous taking somebody's order over the phone when you have customers right in front of you who have their food ready.
