6/17/26 Yummy Bowl Hurstbourne. We went with friends tonight to eat at one of their favorite restaurants that we had never been to. We went to Yummy Bowl in the strip on Hurstbourne close to Taylorsville Rd. We had a choice of a table or a booth. We choose a booth and it was roomy enough for the four of us. Our server was Peter. He brought us drinks and explained how to take a card off our table, write your name on it and check what kind of rice you want, White, Brown or Fried Rice and lay it on your tray and to go on up to the counter to pick out our food. Our friends explained how the Mongolian Grill worked. You go through the line and pick out what you want in your Yummy Bowl. There's veggies, fruits and noodles, then you choose which of the uncooked proteins that you want in your bowl. There is Lamb, Pork, Dark Meat Chicken, White Meat Chicken, Salmon, Shrimp, Clams, Crab. Then you can pick out any seasonings if you want them. Last, you pick out 2 or more sauces that you want and put them into small ramekins, set them on your tray, and they cook your food on the grill. They bring the cooked bowl to your table! The food was so fresh and cooked perfectly. Anything that you can't finish, you are allowed to take it in a takeout box. Our dinner was absolutely delicious! The ingredients were high quality, the portions are generous, and there were so many delicious options to customize your bowl exactly how you want it. When you get there a server will get your drinks and any apps you want! Once you are ready to head up to the line , you grab a tray and bowl and start loading up! All items start raw and once you add your sauces and seasoning you give your tray to the chefs. They will cook everything up and bring it to you once it's cooked! It turns out being a delicious stir fry of the ingredients you chose! The staff is friendly and welcoming, and the restaurant itself is clean and inviting. You can tell they really care about both the food and the customer experience. We were out and I was craving Asian food, stumbled on this spot. I have fond memories of an old Mongolian grill that used to be in louisville so wanted to check it out. The service was fantastic. I've so missed having the option of food cooked over a Mongolian grill. Since its opening in Louisville, Yummy Bowl has been on my food list. The restaurant was lively for a weeknight, but this didn't cause a wait for seating. Our server handed us a menu and when we chose to build our own bowl, we were given a card to write our name, table number, and special requests. I originally felt confident going up to build my bowl. This changed to feeling overwhelmed when I step up for the ingredients. So I started with a little of this and a little of that, then added a bit more. The meat selection is plentiful. I knew I'd pile on chicken and added in a few circles of sausage. I also loved that I could include up to two eggs. If you're comfortable with seasoning your meat and vegetables, there's a huge selection. Several sauces are available too - at least 2 are recommended, but I'm going to increase it to 3 next round. Prepped bowls are left for the cooks to grab and once prepped, the server uses the card to deliver it to the right table. Final bowl -- delicious!!!! One bowl was enough and I walked away so full. What a great find! I have always loved a good Mongolian grill and I am enamored with Yummy Bowl. Our first visit was mid-afternoon on a Saturday, and our second was during the lunch hour on a weekday. Both times we were seated immediately and our service and food were excellent. Upon being seated, a card is provided to write your name, table number, and any special requests about your food preparation. There are two dining options, one in which you decide at the table which items you prefer in your bowl and it is prepared and brought to you. The other option is to go to the LARGE ingredient bar and add items to the bowl on your own and leave it with your card to be prepared and brought to your table (we chose this option and it was a knockout). The build-your-bowl bar is huge and has a large selection of meats, vegetables, eggs, and many different spices and sauces to add. There are even little cups to sample the sauces. The meat and veggies all appeared to be fresh, with no browning or off smells. I noticed that the bar was regularly restocked. What I liked most was that my food was cooked to perfection. My vegetables were not cooked to mush and the meat was not raw or overcooked. There are other items on the menu (wings, salads ramen, soup) but most folks seemed to be there for the Yummy Bar! This place is fantastic! Get a bowl, load it up and they put it on the grill. Super easy and customizable. The bowls you get are slightly smaller than the red bowls they bring your food out in. Which means don't feel bad about mounding the raw food up! It's almost as if it's an art. Service has always been great for us, constantly checking and refilling waters and bringing us any other cutlery we need. The decor is decent, clashing styles to some degree. Lots of warm colors and decor and then areas of cold colors and decor. It's not uninviting but can stand out if you are keen to seeing things like that. You hand your bowl over to a server and they bring the cooked food out to your table in about 5-10 minutes. This was my first time dining in a Mongolian grill. I usually order to go but in TN. This restaurant in in Louisville. My sister rants and raves about this place, wo she took me for my birthday. I was a little overwhelmed at the options initially but I went with what I felt would make a good bowl and made the right decision. It's like a buffet syle for ordering. You pick out everything you want in your bowl. From protein, veggies, sauces and seasonings. You put it all in your bowl and on your tray and they cook it. When my bowl came out, it was a little undercooked for my preference. I asked the waiter if it could be cooked a little longer and he said yes. My bowl was DELICIOUS!! When driving down Hurstbourne one day I noticed a new sign above this restaurant. It said "Yummy Bowl" and at first I was a bit dismissive. For about the last 8 years this location has been more or less a revolving door of restaurants that came on strong and didn't last. To be honest, I was a bit skeptical to write a review for the next place to occupy this space because of the lack of staying power....up until this point. Our first visit was AWE-SOME. Structurally, they completely re-did the inside. The bar that was a feature of the last 4 or 5 residents is gone to make room for seating. The kitchen is completely visible (one of the signature attributes of a Mongolian Barbecue), and there is plenty of seating without feeling crowded. The concept of the Mongolian Barbecue is a simple one: Choose your starch, get your bowl, and head on down the line. What you put in your collection bowl goes in your big red dinner bowl. Along the way there a fiscal ton of fresh vegetables, more starches (if you're in to that kind of thing) and the meats. Salmon, Beef, Chicken, Pork, and a few others. Customize it, 100%, to your liking. Love onions? Fill it up and hope for breath mints. Make your own seafood bowl with salmon and squid (eww) and a few other seafood options. The options are limited only to your imagination. There are a few seasonings to accent your meal, then choose your sauce(s). Lastly, sauce it to your delight. Hand it over and let the chefs do the cooking for you. About ten minutes later your food arrives, hot and delicious. You're provided a fork when you sit down. Chopsticks are available from your server on request. If you're not feeling adventurous or don't want to think too much much about what to pile into a bowl, there is a large selection of entrees on the menu, as well as a fresh sushi (and it looks SOOO good). There is not a single staff member not actively engaged in taking care of customers, cooking, or cleaning. These people are constantly on the go making sure everything is great. Ok, so everything above is from our first visit. We liked it so much we went back the following week. That being said copy/paste everything above and you've go our second visit (but I don't do that because if you made it this far, I'm a) impressed and 2) thankful. we went there last night. the only reason they're not getting five stars is because I had to take away for the lack of service. they only had two servers for 45 tables. way understaffed. it was hard to get a water refill unless you tackled someone. the sushi was well liked. the crab ragoons were ok. the actual food was good. the bowls they give you are quite small. the secret is to stack the food 14 inches tall to get your money's worth. they have an option to pay $4 more for unlimited bowls. they really loved the fried cheesecake. I will elevate the stars if I go back and i can actually get water. the table next to me were not happy because they couldn't get alcohol due to no liquor license. I don't know why? I opted for the bowl Togo. Along with all of the vegetables and proteins, there were some spices and several sauces to choose from. You also get to choose your base. Deal B is where you decide at the table which protein and sauce you want. I went with Deal A, and as a big eater, I liked this option. My friend ordered Deal B, and he chose the Scallop. His food was delicious, but I was a little disappointed that I could not get the Scallop in Deal A. Service: Another friend ordered Korean Fried Chicken, which is usually eaten with your hands. Cute concept, tasty food, but a tight squeeze! Tried out Yummy Bowl tonight and overall, it was a solid experience with a few caveats. The concept is fun--you build your own bowl with your choice of vegetables, starches, and meats, and everything is grilled fresh right in front of you. Lots of variety and flavor, and the price was very reasonable--three adults ate for just $55! That said, the space felt a bit cramped. As a larger guy, I had a tough time navigating the narrow aisles and tightly packed tables. It was also pretty warm inside, likely due to the open-concept grill area, which adds to the ambiance but also the heat. The food was definitely the highlight--delicious, fresh, and filling. My favorite dinner date and I got really excited to see that we have a new Mongolian Grill in Louisville, and couldn't wait to give it a try. Let me say that Yummy Bowl is...well...yummy! And I liked the ordering process quite a bit. When you are seated, each person is given a card on which to write your name and table number, check the type of rice you want, and list any special requests. After creating your bowl, you give the card to the cooks with your bowl and someone brings your food to you, thus avoiding a huge crowd at the ingredient bar/cooking area. The only *slight* complaint that I had was that the choices for creating your bowl is small in comparison to other places I've been. However, all of the ingredients were fresh and high quality with nary a wilted piece of broccoli in sight. And I will take being able to chose each piece of veg, each piece of meat, and exactly what sauce I want over someone else choosing what I eat any day! Yummy Bowl has some Ramen dishes and sushi as well as the Mongolian Grill. We ordered a non-rice sushi roll (lower carbs, ya know!), and it was on the table in the time it took us to order, create our bowls, and return to the table. It was good. But it's really hard to judge Yummy Bowl's sushi based on a cucumber wrapped roll. We will sample the traditional sushi next time and see how it stacks up to some of our favorite restaurants. I really hope Louisville steps up and gives Yummy Bowl the business it needs to thrive. Driving 2 hours to get to the closest Mongolian Grill is the pits!! read more

Deal A is a build-your-own bowl (literally - think buffet). Deal B is where you decide at the table which protein and sauce you want, and they do it for you. If you pick Deal A then you fill out the card they give you with your carb option (rice or noodles), name, table#, and any special instructions. Next, you walk up to the area that resembles a buffet and start loading up your bowl! You pick your veggies, meats/seafood, seasonings, and then sauce(s). I loaded my bowl with green beans, edamame, carrots, onion, chicken, egg, salmon, smoked sausage, and steak. Then I seasoned the meats with garlic powder, onion powder, steak seasoning, and black pepper. I chose Mongolian and Brown sauce for my two sauces. A few minutes later your server brings it to your table nice and hot! We really enjoyed our meal - even our two year old loved it! Wow. Where has this been my whole life?!?! I did the create your own stir fry bowl. Going into the experience I was confused and scared. I was handed a bowl and told to go to the back. After making my bowl, I didn't know where to stand and wait, but boy was the awkwardness worth it. I think I had an out of body experience.
