This is THE Perfect 24-hour dim sum restaurant in Toronto... because it's the only one! Having been around since the 1980s this restaurant is almost legendary. Unfortunately it seems stuck in the old ages and has since built itself a reputation of being dingy and serving poorer quality food. With so many other better Chinese restaurants having opened since and Chinese people being notorious for flocking to where better food is, I wonder how much longer this establishment can survive. Nevertheless, it is handy to have this 24-hour option located in the middle of Scarborough and they do have a fairly large selection of dim sum and dinner options served throughout the day. Having been here for dinner and lunch, I would say that the dinner plates are better overall, such as the lobster being decent. Honestly the food is probably a 3-star but they get an extra star for being open 24 hrs and one of the og restaurants that serve dim sum and assorted Chinese food when you need somewhere to eat late at night. Came here just before midnight and the service was quick and to the point. We ordered some dim sum and a bowl of noodles, all food came out hot and quickly which is exactly what was needed. We used to be regulars at perfect for many years when our kids were tiny- I used to crave one dish in particular that one of the staff wrote it out for me so I wouldn't have to explain it as it often comes w pork and I prefer it as a vegetarian option- nothing against pork...;) anyhow, whatever fond nostalgia we had was dashed last night when my husband and I went w our now adult kids- we typically order a bit and then do more half way when somewhere new or that we hadn't been in awhile- we didn't order more this time.. one dish came out w wrong protein and was quickly remade- it was decent.. everything else was just okay. It goes boldly by the name of Perfect Chinese Restaurant, and it approaches that lofty goal to an extent. It's been offering Dim Sum and mostly Cantonese cuisine for decades, 24 hours a day. Based on previous Yelp reviews, the quality is inconsistent. Today, it ranged from outstanding to acceptable. I was one of a group of four, and we arrived around 5:15 p.m. for an early dim sum dinner. The decor was clean, comfortable and a bit dated. Two of my dining companions had been coming to Perfect since childhood, and the slightly worn decor was, for them, traditional and comforting as a pair of old slippers. As long-time visitors, they had some recommendations to make: we ordered Shiu Mai and Har Gow (as usual), steamed BBQ Pork Bun, Steamed Glutinous Rice, Pea's Green Shrimp Dumpling, Beef Ball, Deep Fried Squid and Cheung Fun (Rice Roll) with Shrimp and Leek. Here's my rating /5: 5/5: Har Gow; Cheung Fun; Pea's Green Shrimp Dumpling 4/5: Beef Ball; Deep Fried Squid; Shiu Mai, Steamed Glutinous Rice 3.5/5: Steamed BBQ Pork Bun The Har Gow, Cheung Fun and Shrimp Dumpling all featured a translucent, starchy dough. At worst, this dough can be too chewy or too thick but tonight, at Perfect Chinese, it was indeed perfect, and beautifully translucent, allowing the colors of the fillings to shine through. The Pea's Green Shrimp Dumplings were particularly beautiful. They tasted as good as they looked, with the fresh taste of the pea greens complimenting the shrimp. The Har Gow were plump, generous and the shrimp was nicely cooked, not at all rubbery or tough. The Cheung Fun was also excellent, beautifully complemented by the slightly warm, sweet soy sauce. The Beef Ball was beautifully aromatic and well seasoned, but I would have preferred them to be a bit more tender and less bouncy in texture, and otherwise would have been 5/5 for flavour. However, this could be how the texture is meant to be. The other 4.5 dishes were excellent, but not outstanding. The Steamed Pork Bun was very good, but I wish the BBQ pork filling had been more generous. Staff were friendly and welcoming, and our food arrived in a timely fashion. However it was, at times, difficult to get the attention of waitstaff. At 5:15, parking was plentiful, but the lot is rather small, and I could see the possibility that at popular times, such as weekend brunch, it could be tight. The Perfect Chinese Restaurant takes both cash and cards, and is conveniently located near Highway 401. In short, the Perfect Chinese Restaurant is ambitious, well-established, open all the time, possibly inconsistent, fairly priced, and offers a very good dim sum, among other options. Come here for the Dim Sum, for sure. You can satisfy your Dim Sum craving night and day!! Worth noting: they offer a whole Peking Duck for a very reasonable price, they offer a rather pricey Crab Claw Hors D'oeuvre that my dining companions raved about, and they have a good selection of fresh seafood. I saw a number of tables ordering the lobster. Next time, I will check out some of their seafood offerings and some of their other dim sum selections. The Perfect Chinese Restaurant... such an audacious name, but it did have some standout features. The business was located in a narrow strip mall of the Scarborough district of the Greater Toronto Area. On-site parking spaces were limited and even entering the plaza can be a nightmare at peak dining hours (e.g. weekend lunch). The dining room was divided into two sections with an adjacent suite next door dedicated for banquets and karaoke. The restaurant was open 24/7 which is unheard of for a Chinese eatery in the States, let alone one that specializes in dim sum. This was the last meal of our recent road trip and was recommended by some family friends for lunch. I was in disbelief when I saw the menu prices. It's as if inflation never existed because the cost was 3.60 or 3.80 in Canadian dollars for all of the items except the XL choices which were still an affordable 5.50 to 5.95. Even better were the weekday prices before 11:00 am. If you paid in cash, then all of the non-XL items were discounted to 3.30 each. With the current exchange rate, that meant the price was less than $2.50 USD. I have not seen such inexpensive dim sum like this since before the turn of the century. There were close to 70 offerings on a menu sheet that was placed at each table. You marked off the desired items and then handed the paper to a server who processed it with the kitchen. No push carts were available here as a worker would bring out the food in bulk after it was fried/steamed. Since we dined on a Monday, the restaurant was less than half full, and our order came out very fast. Tea was even cheap at one Canadian doller per diner. In the lower right corner was a list of fried rice and noodle dishes and vegetable plates that each cost 9.95 which was about $7.50 USD. Our group selected the following... * Har Cow * Shiu Mai * Chicken Feet with Sauce * Steamed Sticky Rice Wrapped * Steamed Cheung Fun with Shrimp * Steamed Cheung Fun with Beef * Pan Fried Seafood Bean Curd Roll * Pan Fried Radish Cake The size of the first two dumplings was average and not the jumbo version that we tried at another business. That made sense given the low prices. The quality of the cheung fun was better here than the more high end spot we visited the day before. The least impressive item was the Pan Fried Seafood Bean Curd Roll. There wasn't much seafood filling inside the roll. If there were more people in our party, then I know we would have selected some less mainstream fare (e.g. beef tripe, curried squid). The final tally was less than $50 USD after HST and gratuity. Credit cards were accepted but not debit... hmm. Not only was I full, but I was very envious that such a dining bargain still existed. With the high cost of living and lack of competition in my hometown, the dim sum prices are easily double to triple that of what we experienced here. Regular dinner entrees could be ordered too, but why bother when the extraordinary value resided with the dim sum. Oh, and can I mention again the place never closes which means you can satisfy a late night dumpling craving any day of the week? The service was adequate while the dim sum quality at these prices was more than acceptable. For our lunch, I gave a 4.5 star rating which was probably skewed on the higher side because we didn't have to fight for parking, get in line for an empty table, or wait long for the food to be ready. read more

I bought 2 orders of suckling pig which cost $54.50. When I got home I realized they gave me regular pork which was hard and the skin was not crispy. Called them back, they said I can bring it back. I spent 27$ on an Uber, so I couldn't go back to get a refund, to be charged 27$ for another Uber. They lied and gave me regular pork, for suckling. So disappointing I jut threw 54.$ in the garbage. Below average dim sum at a below average cost. The BBQ pork buns, which is hard to screw up, were screwed up. The bun itself was fine but the filing was bland and was clearly old as in started turning bad already. The Siu Mai had too much filler so its taste and texture were borderline inedible. These first two items is the first time I discarded leftover food. The fried tentacles came out suspiciously fast and was cold and not crispy. The flavour was soso. You order off a checklist, and there's pictures at the front so you have an idea of what the dishes look like. That was very helpful. The food was good, and the prices were a steal. It's typical dim sum, and the chicken feet were better than others I have tried. Enjoyed the tea. Food came out pretty fast. From the outside, the restaurant doesn't look too appealing but the inside is much nicer. Unfortunately, I couldn't rate better because of hygiene there. I came here for mother's day and I really enjoyed it! The restaurant was much more spacious than I originally thought with 20min wait time. It's open 24 hours too! The beef cheung fun was really good along with the bean curd rolls on the dim sum menu. We also got the $70 combo with 5 dishes including lobster, fish, 2 vegetable dishes, and dessert. The price was so affordable and the seafood was very fresh! The only downsides was the cleanliness of the plates but you can always rinse with the tea. Their regular prices are not bad at all for dim sum these days. Most items are usually pretty good, but one day we went, I think there were some issues in the kitchen. My family and I decided to eat this when we landed in Toronto since they are open for 24 hours, which is a major plus. We ordered a family combo meal that was available for to go only which ended up being perfect for us so we could take it back to our hotel. The combo meal was $148 CAD and came with roasted duck, deep fried crab, deep fried fish, fried rice, fish maw soup, sticky spare ribs, sautéed snow pea leaves, & veggie chow mein. The major highlights were definitely the roasted duck, sticky spare ribs, the fish maw soup, and the flavor of the deep fried crab. Dishes that I can go without would be the fried rice and the veggie chow mein, which were kind of basic and lacked flavor. It definitely acted as a filler though and it was still a good addition to the combo. Portions were pretty fair as well. Service wasn't too bad, food was available once I drove over to the location. Omg, at the end when people where settling up the bill, a sizzle plate or something came out and fried chilli must have dressed with hot oil just exploded throughout the dining area and ran half of the diners outside for fresh air. One of our party said, "I never been run out of a restaurant like that before!" It will be awhile before returning back. I will commend them that the food was served promptly, but we were short soup bowls, they didn't give us soy sauce, chilli sauce, didn't ask us for drink orders. Some at the table would've ordered liquor but they never asked. We had to chase down pop orders, chase down napkins and water was served almost at the end of meal, again after a chase. I guess our order wasn't big enough or it was something else. It's like we have to beg. My some relatives like this place, but it is a terrible place. This was a little disappointing because this is the 24hr dim sum place. Supposed to have decent service food and some average decor. I would say the food is a 7/10. But the service was well sub par. We got in on Friday night at 11pm or so but half the place was closed off due to a wedding. Which is cool as they were singing karaoke so free live music. But the wait staff were basically rushing us to leave the entire time. While I see other tables that were here before us and didn't even leave when we were done. Upon arrival we said hello...we are still waiting for him to say hi back. We had questions about the menu and he appeared very annoyed to answer us. He had a mask on and refused to speak a little louder so we could here him. After asking him the same question about 8 times, he decided to talk louder. We were not familiar with some of the menu items and asked for details to which he said he did not know. We wanted an order of vegetables and he wanted to charge us $25CAD...yes, more than the entrees! He got an extreme attitude we said we did not want the order of vegetables. When we returned to pick up the food, he spent ten minutes on the phone before acknowledging we returned. He finished the call and then answered another call before tending to us. We found that incredibly rude as we were customers right in front of him. He angrily handed us our food. We needed utensils but were so turned off that we didn't bother to ask. REVIEW OF DIM SUM ITEMS: Har Gow - The Har Gow order came in 3, and the shrimps inside were deliciously plump. Boy, was I surprised at how good it was! If you like ginger and soft, tender squid, you'll like this one. It came in quite a soupy-like, flavourful broth with lots of ginger. This was one of my favourite dim sum items at the restaurant! REVIEW OF THE MAIN DISHES: Fried Garoupa with Chinese Greens - This was pretty good. I could taste the ginger mixed in with the fish. The Chinese greens, which were Chinese broccoli and carrots, were nice and crispy. I liked that they put in a lot of vegetables in the dish! Sauteed Mixed Chinese Vegetables in Buddha Style - Every restaurant tends to do their "Buddha-style Vegetables" differently, and this was no exception. It included: a good amount of mixed mushrooms, broccoli, snap peas, carrots, baby corn, bamboo shoots, water chestnuts, and bean sprouts. I liked that they put in a mix of different mushrooms, and the broccoli and snap peas were nice and crispy (not overcooked). But I found it a bit too saucy. Not sure why this place has a such low rating. I started going to The Perfect Chinese recently and every time I visit, they never disappointed me. I was taken here by my significant other as this place is his family's staple dim sum spot. He has been going here since he was a little and wanted to share a great experience with me so I have it a try. This place is big, there is a plenty of space. You can sit here all day long and enjoy your meal as I often see elders enjoying their meals and their teas with friends and families. Even though it can get packed, service is extremely fast. Our order comes out less than 10 minutes and we are able to enjoy our meal without any disruption. Our goto orders are chicken and black fungus rice, shrimp har gow, shrimp cheng fen, squid tentacles, shrimp rolls and chicken wings. Two for one wings seemed like and ideal choice when order for a group of people , that was the case the wings were over cook & the Shanghai noodles were bland Wouldn't recommend this product. Last but least terrible costumer service read more

The food was flavourful, piping hot right from the kitchen, portions were generous and a great value. We got an order of spring rolls, 4 to a small plate w sweet and sour sauce, steamed beef balls - 3 good sized balls per order; sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaf, 2 small packets per order (or you can order a single large one) - very good!; steamed rice rolls (cheung fun) with beef and Asian parsley (cilantro) - this was our favourite dish. It was a generous order size. We have had "sliders" as us white folk might say from over 10 different restaurants and these were by far the best!!!! The last dish was our least favourite - it was the fried dumplings (beef inside) - I suggest dipping in sweet and sour sauce. Now that we know, we will order 2 dishes of cheung fun beef. The service was prompt and efficient. The ambiance is light and airy, people talking, laughing, For two of us, the bill was $35 a cheap date! Highly recommend. read more
