Yummy Dumpling in Richmond lives up to its name! Tucked away and unassuming in Continental Center, this spot is a true hidden gem with a fantastic selection of dumplings.. whether you prefer them grilled or steamed, every bite delivers. The dumpling wrappers are just the right thickness and the fillings are flavourful and juicy. We ordered 2 different types and they were fried golden brown and pipin' hot. And for an extra dollar when you order dumplings, only a dollar for the soy milk (hot or cold). Perfect complement to the meal! Ordering can be difficult at times if you don't know the language and I was impressed with super easy with their tablet kiosk system. Everything was also clean and well organized. In case you can't finish (like us), the dumplings are already served in to-go containers. If you're in the area and craving dumplings, don't miss this spot. It's casual, quick, and delicious.

We were driving around Richmond at 8:30 PM aimlessly at Wednesday night, looking for a spot to grab a late-night snack without committing to a full meal. We parked in the Continental Mall (outdoor parking) and, after a short walk, stumbled upon Yummy Dumpling! This hidden gem truly focuses on its namesake, offering a simple yet delicious menu of pan-fried or boiled dumplings, along with comforting soups (like lamb and wonton), tofu pudding, and freshly brewed soy milk. They even have frozen dumplings to take home. The pricing is incredibly affordable, with 10 pieces of pan-fried or boiled dumplings for just $8.99 or $9.99. Plus, if you order a main, you can get a soy milk for only $1! Ordering was a fun experience too, thanks to their self-order kiosk. It was easy to navigate the visual menus and input our order, receiving a printout with our order number at the end. The restaurant has limited seating, but we were lucky enough to snag a table, as many guests opted for takeout. When our number was called, my husband picked up our order - presented in takeout containers, which was fine since we knew we couldn't finish 20 dumplings between us anyway! I definitely need to come back to try their salty tofu pudding next time!

I lovee this dumpling spot! They have really great juicy dumplings here. I always get the pork and chives ( which only comes in boiled). I've always been an pan fried only dumpling type of gal, but this place does their boiled dumpling correctly. They have a good bouncy dumpling skin texture with juicy filling ( they don't skimp out). I've also tried their pan fried dumpling for pork and green onion. It's really good and crispy but I prefer chives. I paid 8.99 for 10 pieces which fills me upp. I don't find the condiments area the most sanitary though. I used to get their unlimited soy milk but the sugar is just out in an open container with vinegar and chilli oil dropped in it. The owner seems pretty stoic. I'm still giving it 5 stars for the food though.

I didn't realize it was a chain with three locations in Metro Vancouver. We entered and the place was moderately busy. We were seated immediately. Rather typical looking restaurant but it was clean. Tables had QR codes for the menu and to place orders. We tried three things: - Deep Fried Durian Balls: Good. Becoming a fairly common dish now. Despite not liking fresh durian , I don't mind eating this. Outer layer is crisp and not too thick. - Rice Noodle with Tomato Broth: Good. Comes still boiling. Decent size, variety of toppings and a slightly thicker broth than most. Rice noodles are a bit soggy, but being all you can eat rice noodles is a nice feature for big eaters. - Yang's Chicken Rice Boneless: Good. Also comes boiling. Chicken is tender, and mushrooms have intense flavour. Service is minimal, but helpful. Overall, we were happy with our food as it was good, fast, and affordable. Not something I would crave, but a reliable option if I'm in the area again

We got in just before the dinner rush so were seated right away at the last open table. This place is a legend in itself, since their original location. Shanghainese place. We ordered: hot + sour soup - solid 4/5. Could use more heat but I like the level of acidity and they were generous with the veg/shrimp in it. Add some chili oil and you're good. XLB - theirs are big, and thin skin but still holds up well. Theres an aunty standing behind the counter making them nonstop. We got the regular pork ones and they were great. Absolutely loaded with soup (seriously, most soup in xlb ive seen in a long time) and the pork filling was nice and juicy. 5/5. shen jian bao - a lot less dense than most versions. Still quite light, and the bottom was nice and crispy. Filling was the same as the xlb. Also loaded with soup. This might be my fav version of this dish. 5/5. sauerkraut fish soup with noodles - I think this was made to cater to a more canto crowd, and I like it. Its lighter, much less greasy, and much less salty. Fish slices were cooked to perfection, still with some bite and not mushy. The purists may not like it but you can eat a lot of this and not feel sick. Could use more of the pickled greens though. 4/5. Total bill was $65 + tax and tip for 2 ppl, and we took home enough food for 1 meal. The restaurant itself is utilitarian. clean, somewhat modern and comfortable enough. There are some big screens showing stuff on TV. You can order with the waitress or use the QR code and order from your phone. Cash or debit only. Come here for no frills, high-value shanghainese food that is surprisingly light. Definitely recommend. Theyve been around for a long time for good reason.

Keep in mind they won't seat you unless your entire party has arrived. The total came to less than $30 per person, which is great value for money in Vancouver. While the xiao long bao and sheng jian bao were definitely the highlights of our lunch, I enjoyed all of the dishes. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for Shanghai cuisine in Vancouver. Xiao Long Bao ($9.25) Even with my questionable chopstick skills, the wrapper didn't break at all, which shows how well they're made. The broth was flavorful, with plenty of meat inside. I just wish the dipping sauce had a stronger ginger profile. Pan-Fried Pork Dumplings / Sheng Jian Bao ($8.50) Crispy on the bottom with a fluffy top. Interestingly, they have the same soup filling as the xiao long bao. Meat & Vegetable Wonton in Peanut Sauce ($12.95)This was the only dish I've never had in Shanghai (my friend told me it's commonly served in the summer, when soup dumplings would be too hot). Wine Chicken ($15.95)It was cute how they served this dish in a tall pot. It looks small, but there's actually a decent amount of tender chicken inside. Fragrant without being overwhelming. Crispy Rice with Salted Egg Sauce ($21.95)The flavor profile reminded me of Singaporean-style salted egg fried chicken (which sadly doesn't seem to exist in Vancouver). The crunchiness adds a nice balance to all the dumpling dishes we had.

The spices weren't as strong and fragrant as the one we had in Sapporo which is what made it so memorable for me the first time. It was also a bit salty for my liking. But the fried chicken piece was about double the size than the one in Sapporo! Perfectly juicy and the crispiness is a nice contrast to the soup and soft vegetables. Beef brisket was soft and tender but would pick the fried chicken over the brisket. The rice was a bit lackluster compared to the more fragrant one in Sapporo. It's hard to compete with soup curry from the motherland, but this is still worth trying if you're looking for something different from the usual ramen or sushi.

I also liked all of the other veggies - broccoli tomatoes corn etc. the soup is on the peppery side but has a great soft flavour to it. I also added eggplant which had great texture. The rice is also very unique. It is more like whole grained rice and feels healthy. Its texture contrasts with the soup and goes well with it I think. However, I was a bit disappointed but not too much as prices were decent depending on what you get. We got the chicken laksa, Nasi goreng, Mongolian chicken, and kuih lapis. Chicken laksa is the ideal order as the soup is decent and the pricing is fair. It is not the best as the soup didn't carry much flavor and the noodles were a bit on the softer side. It was filling however. Nasi goreng is solid. The vegetables felt frozen reheated and wilted, but at least the cucumbers were fresh. The amount of shrimp, squid, and fish cakes was dismal. Flavor profile is good. The Mongolian chicken is okay. It's not fried as the batter is quite soft. It is saucy which my friends were craving. I enjoyed the flavor profile of this one though. The dessert is good. Kuih Lapis is a colorful dessert so it appealed to me in both taste and presentation. One red flag I noticed is that I heard beep after beep of microwave sounds. It's as if all the dishes they prepared well in advance and just reheat for us, plus they walled off the kitchen and the back completely, giving the impression that they want to hide something. Most renowned places won't hide the back like that, as you can at least take a peek of what's cooking behind the scenes in most places.
