I ordered the salmon teriyaki bowl and it was really good. The rice was perfect . I think it is Japanese rice. The salmon tasted fresh and spiced just right. The missing star goes for the improvement needed on their vegetable cuts. The cabbage was cut very big and could use probably a minute more in the pan. Overall, it was very good. Consistently good Hawaiian Bbq. This is our go-to in the area. The portions are huge and food is always fresh, hot and flavorful. We usually get the family meal with bbq chicken and katsu chicken. The katsu is so crunchy! Orders are usually done quickly. There is a few tables to eat inside but not for a large group, tables seat 4. They have a self order kiosk or you can order at the counter. I opted for a Loco Moco and my friend ordered a Lau Lau. After placing our orders at the counter, we parked ourselves at a table and within 10 minutes our orders in a takeout container was brought to us. The Loco Moco consisted of two thin hamburger patties topped with two over medium eggs and brown gravy over white rice. The order came with a side of macaroni salad. I've had loco mocos in Hawaii and here locally and I have my favorites. Overall, this was good value at $11.99. Instead of two thin patties, wished it was a single larger patty and that the eggs were over easy. Friend said her Lau Lau was very good. Both are fantastic and along with some nice sticky rice and a generous scoop of some of the best Mac salad you will find here along with a few nice veggies, this combination is a winner every time. I was chatting with my family the other day and my mom brought up the food she had when she last visited Hawaii. What she remembered the most about that trip was the teriyaki chicken she had (she couldn't recall the name of the restaurant). The way she described the dish made me want to fly to Hawaii immediately to search for this restaurant. Well, that's pretty much impossible these days because of the pandemic. To satisfy my hankering for good teriyaki chicken, I found Yummy Hawaiian BBQ on the Yelp app and decided to get some takeout on 07/25/2020. I called in my order at around 2:30 pm. It consisted of their Family Meal (choice of 3 meats, vegetables, rice, and macaroni salad) and a separate order of chicken katsu plate. The total was just a bit south of $50. I was told my food would be ready in 20 minutes. I arrived at around 2:45 pm. The first thing I observed was the notice on the door about the countywide facial covering order. As soon as I was inside, I saw this maskless, well built man with a number of prison tattoos trying to order. He ordered for himself and attempted to order for his buddy who was not present. Because the staff members were behind a plexiglass window and had their masks on, he had a hard time understanding them and started to get annoyed and agitated. Instead of trying to resolve his issues on the spot or ordering him to leave (which they should have done in the first place), the staff allowed him to stew and pace for a few minutes before he walked out. Other patrons and I were a bit horrified because we had to move around just to avoid being too close to him. I felt like the staff's inaction put us in a bad spot. Back to the food. Everything was neatly packaged and the portions were very generous. The quality of the food was excellent. The chicken katsu, breaded with panko breadcrumbs, was deep fried nicely. The exterior was crunchy while the meat was juicy and tasty. For the family meal, I chose kalua pork, teriyaki chicken, and BBQ beef. They were all delicious. None of the meats was overcooked and they all had wonderful flavors. The macaroni salad was okay. I have had better elsewhere. Overall, this place lives up to its name. The food is definitely yummy and of good value. I'm docking a star for the aforementioned safety incident. But despite that, I will return. BONUS MATERIAL: - Major credit cards accepted. read more

The chicken katsu doesn't feel like cardboard whatsoever, like it pretty much does everywhere else, rather it's juicy and surprisingly thick. The fried fish filets and shrimps (which are cut and fried just like onion rings) taste like they just came out the fryer and have an amazing crunch to them. There are veggies, which lack their own flavor, underneath the meat/seafood and absorb the oil and flavor of the meat above. The veggies are a good respite against the abundant rice and meat.
