I was born and raised in Kansas City. I have 50+ years eating the best bbq in the world. Buford's BBQ is without a doubt the best in the Bay Area of those I've tried, which are many. No one in CA, in my opinion, has mastered both meat smoking AND sauce except Buford. In fact no one has mastered sauce at all, except Buford. As he had sold out of brisket by the time we arrived, which was almost at closing, he graciously subbed delicious catfish in our 3 meat meal. I thought the portion offering by price was exceptional compared to other restaurants in our area. We split our 3 meat combo, and we're known to put away a lot of bbq. Buford's is an easy 20 min drive from central Concord. We made a few stops on the way home and our food was still piping hot when we arrived. My family and I went into Buford's for lunch and couldn't have been happier with the quality of the meats! The service was great, we went around 2pm, so there were only a couple other diners and folks getting take away, but the food came out quick and hot. The restaurant was clean and well maintained. We had the brisket, ribs, hot links (not pictured), catfish, and shrimp for mains. For sides we had the slaw, mac & cheese, fried okra, green beans, and hush puppies (also left those out). We grabbed some desserts to go, but they were delicious as well. Green beans still had a snap to them, so they did a quick simmer and weren't completely sogged out. I would have preferred a touch more salt, but they were great when you snagged a bit of bacon in the bite! Okra was good, a bit over cooked, but I would order again tomorrow. Cole slaw was great! It had bits of apple that added a touch of sweetness in a well balanced, creamy sauce. Mac and cheese was perfect! Tried my kid's hushpuppies and they were amazing dipped in the bbq garnish on the plate! Brisket was hands down the best brisket I've ever had, falling apart and absolutely mouth watering. The ribs were tender while still having bite to them. Again, well balanced and sauce was lite enough that it complimented the meat. Shrimp and catfish breading was the perfect blend of crispy and crumbly, while being perfectly spiced! We can't wait to go back and visit again, felt like we made friends and definitely found a new BBQ mainstay! My hubby and I decided to try this bbq restaurant for the first time, because I wanted to celebrate Black History Month with some soul food. We weren't aware that this little restaurant has been in business for over a year! We found this cozy little restaurant in downtown Antioch. It wasn't fancy but had a mom & pop vibe going on. We wanted to sample the barbecue so we ordered a combination of pork ribs, beef brisket, hot links, and chicken. For sides, we ordered green beans, baked beans, potato salad, and macaroni and cheese, Some Hawaiian rolls came with our meals. For dessert, I ordered a warm peach cobbler with a little vanilla ice cream on top. (YUMMY!!!!) My husband and I were both pleased with our meals! Everything tasted delicious! I loved the smoked flavor of the meats and the delicious bbq sauce! All of the meats were tender also. Nothing was dry like other reviews mentioned. All of the sides were delicious also! The service was excellent! The wait wasn't long! The restaurant was clean. And the 70's classic soul music was on point! It was a nice soulful bbq experience enjoyed by several diverse patrons. And I loved that the restaurant wasn't freezing cold inside! I HATE eating hot food inside of a freezing restaurant! That's not a comfortable experience. My first time going here I found it on yelp the establishment had 4.5 stars the customer service was great I believe it was the owner who helped me and older gentleman. I got the one meat plate with one side I got ribs Mac n cheese and it came with an Hawaiian roll the ribs were so tender and falling off the bone they were seasoned very well not too salty. Do not sleep on Buford's BBQ!! This place is amazing ran by a sweet couple just the two of them. Our BBQ was amazing just like I would in the south. Love it so much and the peach cobbler is to die for. Reminds me of the rural Georgia recipe I lost years ago. The brisket is on point and the ribs fall off the bone in the good way. We came in Sunday afternoon and they were swamped people coming and going our order got missed in the chaos. The owner came over and apologized and gave us the cobbler for free. I ordered pork ribs, brisket, beef sausage, macaroni and cheese , fried okra, The baked beans are simple, flavorful and a nice size serving. The sausage link was mild with tiny bits of spice. Brisket was juicy, smoky and tender. Okra was absolutely perfect. It didnt have too much breading like other places. Pork ribs are worth it to come here by themselves. Bring some wet wipes. It's going to get messy. Unfortunately the Mac & Cheese needs some help. There was no roux, no cheese crust on top and I was disappointed. It didnt seem fresh. Service was really good. They had 2 people cleaning tables, 1 person taking orders and 1 person in the kitchen (from what I saw). They have about 6 tables for customers and 2 benches for a waiting area. This place is top notch! Husband and I picked up food for the whole family and we were surprised to see that this restaurant is right next to Rick's on Second which is a super popular sandwich shop, so if you order Buford's BBQ via DoorDash or some other delivery service, then I think there's synergy there that will get the food to you pretty quickly! That's a huge win since location is everything when it comes to ordering delivery. But you can't go wrong with deciding to get the takeout yourself since there's the beautiful delta waterway just one street up. Eating in the restaurant is a great option too since the decor is super cute, clean, open, modern and it's a really relaxing, comfortable vibe. We love the vines and the various little touches. Even the hallway and the bathroom are nicely done! We ordered a ton of stuff - brisket, brisket burger, ribs, mac and cheese, green beans, pasta salad, pecan pie, banana pudding, and apple pie. Everyone loves the food and we all had a different favorite. My stepdad was a bigger fan of the brisket, my brother loved the ribs, and I was blown away by the mac and cheese. I'm used to mac and cheese having kind of a Velveeta cheese sauce, but this has real pieces of cheddar and it's probably the best mac and cheese I've ever had! Every bite had cheese, macaroni, crunch, so the flavor and textural variety were both completely spot on. I also planned to share the mini pecan pie but it was so good that I ended up eating it all by myself lol oh well too bad for my family, guess they'll have to go back and get their own! The service was also great, super quick and friendly. Definitely the family ambiance you're looking for when you go out for BBQ, and you definitely can't get that wholesome welcoming attitude when you go to some chain - e.g. Dicky's (since you'll pretty much only encounter teenagers who hate their jobs at a chain). Went to Buford's before the ForeJour show at El Campanile and we're glad we gave ourselves time to enjoy! I ordered the 2 way plate with brisket at ribs, my husband ordered the catfish with shrimp. We both had plate envy and ended up sharing our food. I'll start with the catfish since it's been a topic at home ever since. the fish is crispy, light and very flavorful. The corn meal breading is just perfect! Crunchy, well seasoned and forms the perfect crust on the fish. The shrimp coated in the same breading was delicious and cooled just right! No sauces needed! The brisket was so tender and perfectly sauced. Lots of good pieces so there was a mix of the soft meat and some burnt ends (my personal favorite). The pork ribs were perfection! The bones were just for show . The meat was so tender but smoked so well it stayed together for nice big bites. We both gotten the Mac and cheese (check out the cheese pull video ) as well as the baked beans, just a hint of sweetness with great seasoning and the beans held up very well. Serving sizes for all dishes was generous and the service was prompt, Welcoming and made us want to hang out a bit longer. The meal topper was the peach cobbler! Tastes just like home and we were lucky enough to receive the rest of the cobbler (to go) since we ordered the last planned serving. The cinnamon and nutmeg were so fresh and tasty with the juice peaches that still had a good bit to them. Above average barbecue, I would stick with the chicken in the ribs. Brisket is something less to be desired. Best to catch their barbecue on Thursday as that is the first day they're open and the barbecue is more fresh because often the barbecue is left over from a day or two since they open on Thursdays that's the best day Friday's gets a little worse and then from there it goes downhill went there the first two times and the catfish and chicken was excellent.
