Yummy House took over the suite where an Asian gastropub used to be located in the Convoy District. It's part of a small cul de sac of five businesses which means the shared parking lot has extremely limited capacity. The inside wasn't changed much from its predecessor, but the menu was completely revamped. The Roast Duck was the signature item on the menu. The duck needs to be ordered in advance so planning is required if you are going to dine here and want to eat that product. The rest of the offerings was Chinese fare ranging from cold dishes, vegetables, meats, seafood, noodles, rice and soup. For my meal, I selected the Green Chives Turnover and Black Pepper Steak. The first choice was four fried dumplings that were each cut in half. They were the largest dumplings I had seen in awhile with lots of flavorful minced filling. It was a good value for the price. The second choice was a dish consisting of stir fried cube steak that was served with a bed of white onions. The marinade on the meat was a bit salty, otherwise there was not much to remark about. For the food quality, price and service, I gave my dining experience at Yummy House a three star rating.

It was pretty dead inside considering it's on Convoy Street. There is additional parking at the back. There was a good amount of take out orders. Servers did their job. It was clean inside. It looked like it used to be a bar before. The scallion pancakes were good but the Seafood noodles were too salty for us! Location is good if you like going to Happy Lemon lol we went there afterwards for dessert!

It's been ages since I last visited this restaurant! A friend raved about their Sweet and Sour Pork Ribs (Guobaorou), so I came back with some friends. The portion of Guobaorou is generous, and it's truly delicious--crispy and flavorful. We also ordered Jellyfish with Vinegar Dressing. The jellyfish here is quite thick and chunky, not the smooth, silky kind I'm used to, so I wouldn't recommend it. Then there's the Braised Local Chicken in Iron Pot. The picture looked super tempting, so I specifically asked if it came with the steamed rolls (huajuan) shown in the photo. The waiter told me they only have steamed buns (mantou) instead. When it arrived, turns out they're machine-made frozen buns bought from the supermarket. This dish is a letdown, so I don't suggest it either. On the bright side, the Sizzling Pork Kidneys were pretty good! We also wanted to order Peking Duck, but it requires advance reservation--make sure to call ahead if you want to try it.

When we came in for lunch it was pretty empty. We came for the Peking duck, but was tempted to try other things. The Peking duck: 2 course meal. Comes with the duck sliced for you and soup made with the bones & some of the duck meat. The family liked it, although I thought it could've used a little more salt. But the Peking duck itself was amazing, one of the best I've had. The skin crispy, & the meat moist. The best part is they separate & remove most of the fat off. So you're left with just yummy meat & crispy skin. I enjoyed the very thin crepe-like/thin tortilla-like wrap. The Peking duck alone deserves a perfect 5 stars. Beef onion: the fam really enjoyed this one. The beef was very tender & the sauce was good. Sweet & sour pork: very unique texture. Like one of the reviewers said, the coating is like mochi like. Kind of sticks to your gums & teeth when hot. I liked the texture, but we didn't like the sauce. It was over caramelized and was sort of solid. It was like over cooked caramel and stuck to our teeth. Even solidified onto the plate. Yang zhou fried rice: bland and was missing the sausage. It was basically shrimp bland fried rice. Baked pumpkin with salted egg yolk: it was ok. It was very sweet, really heavy, & greasy. It's probably an acquired taste. Service was meh, they basically just dropped off the food then went on the phone on speaker to call for their medical stuff. No one came by to refill our waters or take away empty plates till the very end when we asked for more water & the check. Would I come back here again? Yes for sure for the Peking duck, I will definitely come back for that. But call ahead (an hour minimum), since they say you have to make reservations for them to prepare that.

We came here for the Peking Duck. They suggest you order in advance so we made a reservation and placed the order. The duck was delicious - served with the duck soup, pancakes, scallions, cucumber and sauce. My friends really, really enjoyed the meal. The skin was crispy, just the way they like it. I enjoyed the vegetable dishes. The noodles, pumpkin and eggplant were good. Some of the flavors were new to me because this place serves northern Chinese food. Note: They do have dishes we are more familiar with like honey walnut shrimp, sweet and our, etc. The restaurant is dark could use freshening up. The server took our order but didn't really check in with us to see how we were doing.

Duck is good really soft and crispy but other dishes like the pork ribs is gamey chewy and the pork intestines are good but could use a lil bit time to be tender. Love the boneless chicken feet.

Their duck is always the best I can find in San Diego! And they're the only place that will also prepare a duck soup! Make sure to call an hour in advance if you are planning to get duck! Every other dish I've had is really good too! ^__^

Ran into this place by accident. Was trying to get to another restaurant across the street but couldn't find parking. I knew it was a good sign when there were Chinese patrons inside speaking and eating at Chinese restaurant. Loved the pics of popular dishes on wall and made it easy to order. Restaurant was busy but food came out pretty fast and was delicious! I will definitely be bringing back family and friends to this spot!

All the dishes we ordered were pretty authentic and tasty, but rather more oily than we'd prefer. We came on a quiet Sunday afternoon around 3pm and one server was working. Service was decent. Restaurant is clean with soothing Chinese music playing in the background. Overall a decent restaurant to enjoy authentic Chinese food.

Fellow Northeasterners/Manchurians, this is a place for you! I grew up in Harbin and they have extremely authentic food from my area! Besides, they also have items not currently on the menu e.g. "Oil" green beans and smoked pork knuckles (similar to Schweinshaxe) and trotters, which are my soul and comfort food. It's my to-go place even before I moved to SD. The manager Andy is very nice as well :)

Excellent experience! We came for lunch on a Friday and ordered the orange chicken, beef noodle and the mixed veggie plate. The portions were large and the food was tasty. We will be back for sure.

It was okay. Got the beef chow mein and broccoli beef. It was fine. Not too good not too bad.

Solid Chinese restaurant with Peking duck and requires advanced notice. Sweet and sour pork was crispy and has slight mochi-like breading. Different but delicious. Always a reliable choice for Chinese food.

Do I need to order Peking duck in advance?

I would. I think the restaurant said 2h prep time but they are a one man shop right now so more advance notice will probably be much appreciated and save you some frustration

    Is this restaurant still open?

Yes, it's open. Was in the area so went to check. It's open as of 7/2/2022.

Is it the best roast duck in SD?

For me, yes! No other place I have seen in San Diego uses the thin wraps for Peking Duck. The only place comparable would be restaurants all the way up in LA.

We also ordered the garlic green beans, but they came out so late that we were already completely full from the noodles, so we took them to go. I also noticed other tables getting plates and bowls which we had to ask for. Overall, I felt the servers weren't too friendly either and seemed to rush through our table despite them standing around not seeming too busy. The food was excellent though! The soup had a great spice to it and super flavorful. The beef and onion was so juicy and addictive, the green beans were good too and had a slight kick to them.

TL;DR It's really good. Go here…read more -------------- I came here after a friend recommended it when I told them I was coming down to San Diego for a day trip during my spring break from school in Orange County. I was born and raised in LA, so I've had a lot of Chinese food growing up, and I wasn't expecting to be this surprised--but I really was. I ordered the black bean eggplant and the salt and pepper chicken wings. The wings are what they're known for, but I have to start with the eggplant because it completely caught me off guard. It wasn't mushy at all--crispy on the outside, perfectly cooked on the inside, and coated in sauce without losing its texture. Every bite had depth and balance, not just saltiness. I actually meant to start with the wings, but the eggplant was so good I ended up eating half of it before even getting to them. By that point I was already getting full, but I still made sure to finish the wings--and I'm honestly excited to take the rest of the eggplant home as leftovers. By the time I got to the wings, I understood why they're popular--crispy, flavorful, and super satisfying--but what stood out to me was how both dishes complemented each other. One rich and layered, the other crisp and bright. I never got tired of eating, which honestly says a lot. I even told the staff how much I enjoyed the food and they thought I was joking, but I meant every word in saying I thought it was comparable, if not better then the food I've had in Chinatown in LA. Really glad I came here and the next time I have a chance to come back down to SD I definitely will come back here and that's not negotiable for me

They were drowned in salt! The Crispy Beef was nothing but thick dough with no beef inside. To add insult to injury it was BURNED so badly that all you could smell was burnt dough and taste burned dough. Hardly any sauce on it as well. The Shrimp Fried Rice should have just been plain white rice for how bland it was. The Vegetable Chow Mein literally was just a container of salt. Slim noodles and salt, disgusting! We spent so much money and all of this is going right into the garbage. Stay away from this hole! It should be shut down for trying to poison people. Afterwards, we thought it was AYCE on the menu of your choice + the side buffet where there are limited selections of sides and refrigerated drinks. We ordered orange chicken, Chinese style fish and something else. Again, this was on the thought that we could order more than one item on our selected menu. So imagine our surprise when the bill was nearly $100 for two people? It was a misunderstanding.
