Update: The bottom review was from my past experiences for years of dining here and ordering take out, which was always been pleasant. I haven't been back here till today and I was very disappointed. From what I remember the Chungking style roasted whole fish has always been a whole tilapia fish every time I will order it and I've always loved it. However, today I was very surprised and disappointed to see only half of the fish with mostly bones. What happened to the other half? Even on the menu it says, "Whole Fish", and not half. I feel like I was cheated and lied to. It's $30 for the dish, and to only get half? That's kind of a rip off. I ordered my food for pick up/to go but we ended up eating it at the restaurant at a table outside. They saw us eating there and offered to bring us tea, which was nice but I was confused with the whole fish, what happened to the rest of it? Most of their dish has Szechuan peppers so it's an acquired taste. This is the very first restaurant that I had my first taste of Szechuan cuisine. At first I did not liked it, i only had few bites of my food and I can still remember the weirdness numb feeling after-taste in my tongue, its tingly. It was a very strange taste so I gave it away to a colleague but then seeing her enjoying it so much.... I tried it again, and again, and eventually starts loving it. This restaurant is a hidden gem if you're looking for a delicious Chinese food. One of my favorites are the Chungking style roasted whole fish, it comes with cauliflower and other different veggies with lots of spices. The steamed whole fish with tofu and lots of spices was delicious too. The stir-fry thinly sliced pork with Chinese green onions, was very tasty. They also have a delicious beef noodle soup, the beef was so tender, the broth was rich and I love the bokchoy in it. I love the stir-fry eggplant as well, it's kinda sweet and salty, that was so delicious. I also Love the cumin lamb stir fry... that's fun to eat, I enjoyed that a lot. I really love the steamed pork with preserved mustard too, the pork was very tender and fatty--- I enjoyed that a lot with rice. They have a lot of really tasty and delicious dish here. They serve a lot of good food it'll take my review too long if I'll name it all. They also have cold dish, for $13 you get to choose three different entree where they serve chicken feet, different veggies, lotus root, some cut of pork and beef and etc. I love this restaurant, it's authentic and they are very nice too. Spicy House not only serves similar dishes but also has over 200 items to choose from. They made my favorite Salt & Pepper Popcorn Chicken just as good or slightly better. My other favorite is the fresh Pea Leaves stir-fry with garlic. The service was a little slow but every item ordered came out kitchen hot, tasty, and with a generous portion. I've eaten here a few times. Their Kung Pao Chicken, Mongolian Beef, Onion Pancakes - all classics, and they have (you guessed it) spicier dishes that serve. I have found that sometimes the food is amazing and other times it's on the greasy side. It all depends on when I order? Their eggplant is absolutely fantastic, and I'll order it just about every time. You can ask for dishes to be served on the spicier side, and they will gladly oblige, which makes me very happy, as I adore anything with chili peppers and flavor balance. Had another amazing lunch here with my BFF we shared everything and we also had the eggplant with minced pork that was absolutely delicious. This time we started with the cold hot and sour jelly noodles (made with Konjak- low carb) they were delicious but slippery then we got the steamed pork and cabbage dumplings which were cooked to perfection then came the spicy eggplant with minced pork, but the star of the show is the cubed spicy chicken! The ratio of chicken to chili peppers is amazing! That chicken is so addictive- it has a wonderful numbing sensation due to the Szechuan peppercorns but it doesn't burn so bad it makes you uncomfortable. The service was exceptional my BFF speaks Chinese so she orders for us and always makes polite conversation with the waitress. The servers came by regularly to refill our waters or makes sure that we had everything we needed. The restaurant is decorated nicely and very welcoming. I noticed Spicy House serves Da Pan Ji (Big Plate Chicken) for just over $20, so I decided to try it along with Dongpo Pork, salted egg yolk tofu, and scallion pancakes--dishes my dad loves. Beware, this place is not for the faint of the heart if you can't take spicy food! They specialize in family style Sichuan cuisine where Chinese peppercorn and various chilis/spices are used. My table ordered a total of 7 dishes, and all of them were so aromatic and full of flavors with various Chinese spices. You know it came straight from the wok as they were popping hot. The lazy Susan allowed our big group to try and share every dish, which I must say is the essence of a proper Chinese cuisine experience. I highly recommend their Mapo Tofu, Fried Chicken Cubes with Hot Pepper and Szechuan Style Spicy Fish. These dishes were so well seasoned that they will make you eat at least two bowls of rice. Just make sure to have mercy on yourself and get a few non-spicy dishes to balance out the heat - I really enjoyed their eggplants and stir fried string beans, though they are both on the greasier side. The total price per person came up very reasonable with all the dishes we got to try. Smashed cucumber, spicy beef and pig ears were all expertly crafted and enjoyed. Food wise well, their menu is massive and while we were there for dumplings we ordered so much more. The menu is broken down into proteins, ingredients and preparation. Honestly there seems to be some of the same dishes listed under each, though this might be a lost in translation situation. In any case every dish we had was great. My favorites were the "Boiled" #124, Boiled 2 Kinds w/Hot Sauce. I chose beef and fish. They call this place Spicy House for a reason. My mouth tingled for an hour after eating this dish. So much Sichuan pepper, perfect boiled dish! Another dish, "Featured Specials" #16, Stir Fried Chicken Cubes w/Hot Pepper was a hit. Though be warned, a cube of chicken is really just the skin with very little meat. Surprisingly dumplings are actually located under "Noodles" where we ordered #201, Chunking Style Wonton and #193, Steamed Bun (Xiao Long Bao). Both were well prepared and I love that their wrappers were on the thicker side which made them feel sturdy with a satisfying chew. We have had hot and sour soup that was extremely sour as if the chef pour a bottle of the vinegar in the soup, and sometimes it was on the sweet side.
