I ate here a bunch of times when it was Rubio's.  Now Joyee Noodle House has come to the neighborhood. Won ton soup was interesting.  I rarely see seaweed in this dish.  I liked the flavor.  Reminds me of soup my mom made.  The ingredient I have never seen in won ton soup is tomatoes.  I liked the fresh flavor.  Won tons were all pork and seasoned just right.  The only thing I didn't like is the bok choy wasn't totally cooked and I didn't like the raw flavor. Fried chicken wings had a crispy batter and the chicken was tender and juicy.  Salty flavor was very good. Staff was very nice.  I came by at 2:59pm and they let me in even though they take a break from 3-4:30pm. 2nd visit. I love fresh sui mei fresh out of the steamer full of juices and bursting with flavor.  Sadly while the sui mei is made of mushrooms, pork, and shrimp it was not juicy or bursting with flavors.  It was actually kinda dry and the flavors dull like it had been sitting around awhile and microwaved to the proper temperature. Lo mein with shrimp featured wheat based noodles which had a mix of soy sauce and smoky wok flavor.  Didn't taste much shrimp flavor from the shrimp but the soy sauce and wok flavor was good.  Pretty good dish. Joyee Noodle House has tasty fried chicken wings but Shanghai Cafe is my favorite place for Chinese food in the area.

This is such a welcomed addition to the town center strip mall. The food is absolutely delicious and the prices are affordable. I dare say that their beef Chow Fun is some of the best I've had in San Diego- not soggy, perfect amount of dryness and bite. Their minced pork noodles were also mouthwatering good. The restaurant itself isn't huge, but there is more than enough seating when we came on a Sunday afternoon. The server gave us prompt service and was very efficient in getting us our food and drinks. I can see this becoming one of my regular favorites!

Came here to try the breakfast, and it was good. Everything came out fresh and fast. We had: Pineapple Bun w. Butter, Chinese Donut, Pork Congee & the Radish Cake. When they brought out our food to the table everything was piping hot. The service was good. The inside was nice and clean. Thank you Joyee Noodle House for your hospitality and tasty food. Will come back and try more on the menu.

This is still a solid four I tried some new dishes, like the bamboo and pork which was delicious and again the braised beef noodle soup was amazing. The best overall dish again goes to the pork belly and tofu. The service is attentive and quick, but you are going to be given limited napkins, and if you're needing more smaller bowls, ask for the whole table if you're in a larger party. The turnip cake also was a star because it was strangely different than other dim sum places where you have the crunchy outside and really soft inside. Flavors are pretty on point again. This is better than driving all the way to convoy. If you live in the university city area I would say this is worth a visit and it is just a a few minutes from UTC mall Ratings Beef noodle soup 5/5 Pork and tofu 5/5 sticky rice 3/5 Popcorn chicken 3/5 Turnip cake 5/5 Green beans 4/5

My friend and I were super excited to try out this place for Taiwanese breakfast. We had the egg crepe with dry pork and taro, fried shrimp rolls, rice shrimp rolls and pork and chive dumplings. Nothing was great and the combo of taro and dry pork was bad. Soggy and tasted almost like it had iceberg lettuce and mayo in it. The pictures showed it was toasted. Our was not. We seated ourselves in a corner and we had to go ask for service a couple of times. The decor was a standard strip mall look. I won't drive all the way there for. Their food.

Back again but this time to try their new breakfast menu which is only available from Fridays-Sundays. We ordered quite a lot of food and these are some of the highlights: Taro and Dry Pork Sandwich: the sweet, creamy taro paired very nicely with the savory pork floss. Sticky Pork Rice: interesting take on sticky rice, they nailed the flavor while stuffing it into a steamed dumpling wrapper. Radish Cake: bite-size, deep-fried perfection! Pineapple Bun w/ Pork: the bun is light and has a delicious sweet crust. The pork is tender and the savory contrast to the sweet bread is really good. We also tried these but I thought they were just okay and wouldn't order again: Egg Crepe: I didn't like how the crepe part was still a bit doughy, like it was undercooked. Pork Sausage: Taiwanese sausage, slightly sweet but the overall flavors tasted dull. Steam Shrimp Roll: very expensive for what you get and I thought the rice paper was too thick. Chinese Donut: way too thick, in my opinion. I was expecting something light and crispy. I believe their menu has changed since we last visited and the Taro and Dry Pork Sandwich is no longer available. There are also some new items so I'll have to come back and try them!

Honestly it should be 3.5. The place, as my friends called it, pan-Asian. There's no theme. You can eat anything. Breakfast, snack, noodle, standard chinese entree dishes, etc. It was hard for me to figure out what to eat. Most dishes were OK. Among the dishes we ordered, I liked the stir fried noodle with chicken the most. The duck was ok but a bit salty. Kunpao chicken was a bit too sweet and too much sauce. The noodle soup didn't have much taste, my least favorite dish. I wanted to like the pork with onion bun but the pork was too tough I thought it was beef! They were so nice to give us the crispy puff to try, on the house. The inside was black sesame paste. Again, it's OK, not great.

My wife suggested for our Lunch to come to this restaurant to try it and it was a good choice. The food was all delicious. My wife tried each in the plate first and with every bite all I hear from her was "yummm " It is the first time we had an EGG WITH TOMATO NOODLE, we kept seeing it at the other restaurants but never order it. So we decided to give it a try, and wow, such a simple dish but so pleasant to eat, very simple but good, i will keep ordering this from now on if i see it on the Menu list. The SMOKE & SALT DUCK were amazing, very tender, and had such a balance of seasoning on it. The meat was not dry; it's so Juicy and very Tasty. PORK BELLY with TOFU is very Tasty too . The Dumplings were juicy, I dont eat much of the Dumplings but in this restaurant, I will. This is a small restaurant but I definitely wanted to dine here again . Also they just opened up last week . The Staff are nice, Allen our waiter was very friendly. They do have outdoor seating too and a good amount of spaces for parking.

Grabbed a fairly late lunch over the weekend at Joyee just as they were transitioning from their dim sum to their regular lunch menu. We were eyeing some of the dim sum items, but totally on us for arriving late. We were seated promptly and put in our orders. The dishes came out as they were ready. Overall, this is a quick way to temporarily fulfill a dire need for dishes like dan dan noodles or pig ear. However, if you're willing to make the effort to head down to Convoy, you'll find many more options that I feel are a better balance of quality and value.

Saw there's a new place that opened up and had Chinese style breakfast. Not sure if Joyee Dumpling House is their sister restaurant, but the menu is different and the price is much more reasonable too! We came early for their breakfast on Sunday. From 9AM-11:30AM they serve only the breakfast and then they open up for lunch. If you're interested in their noodle soups, you'll have to wait for the lunch time. For breakfast we ordered a few items: Sticky Pork Rice Sui Mai 5/5 - Steamed to perfection, the filling is so flavorful and tasted like the ones you would have in China. Radish Cake 2/5 - Not our favorite. In the photo it looks like the lightly pan fried, but it's actually super fried. I highly recommend for you to make a steam version instead as it was too greasy. There's also not enough radish. Soy Milk (Cold + Sweet) 4/5 - Wish they offer a hot version and the waiter did offer to microwave it, but cold version will do as well. Chinese Donut 4/5 - Thank goodness it's fried fresh. Perfect to dip into the soy milk. Egg Crepe 3/5 - I really like the ones you would get at Four Seas in Irvine and it just not enough fluffy egg. Crispy Puff 4/5 - It's super dry flaky style pastry with sweet sesame paste inside. Good size and tasted great! Pork Buns (Hangzhou Style) 3.5/5 - The bread is fluffy and soft. Inside there's flavorful pork filling. I wish it was just a tad bit juicer. There are so many more items to try just on the breakfast and lunch menus. Will be back to try more. They do have a few outdoor seats if you have a dog that you want to bring along.

Newly opened Joyee Noodle House in the UTC area! The restaurant is newly remodeled and has a modern vibe to it. It is the sister restaurant to Joyee dumpling house that has multiple locations across San Diego. This location has a different menu for breakfast and dinner compared to the dumpling houses. The menu is smaller and simpler catering for the population at this location. The dinner and noodles were great! I really enjoyed their noodles! Either the beef noodle soup or the dry beef noodles. However, I don't like their breakfast as much. It's pricey and not really the style and flavors that I like. I am excited to see them here and offer good dinner options.

If you're looking for Chinese breakfast, you are in luck! They have everything you are looking for! Soy milk, rice rolls, steamed buns, pan fried buns, radish cake, pork and thousand year egg porridge. You can also have lunch and dinner here, they have noodles and other yummy items. I haven't tried it yet, but I will be back to try it! There's lots of seating inside, they have ten tables, mostly for groups of 2 or 4. They also have 2-3 tables outside on their patio, I saw someone out there eating with their pup beside them. Glad we have more Asian breakfast options in San Diego now!

Great food! Authentic Taiwanese cuisine. Fantastic portion! I had to take the food home, and got 2 meals out of it.

Shan Xi Magic Kitchen has been on my Yelp Want To Go list ever since my brother and SIL told me…read morethat they really enjoyed a Chinese restaurant in Las Vegas and were told that a similar restaurant existed in San Diego. After their experience in Vegas, they tried Shan Xi themselves and glowingly talked about the delish food there. Today, 3/4s of my fam ate here and we definitely concurred with my brother and SIL's favorable assessment. 4.5 stars because their grub was amazing, but it could be more customer friendly where one of the staff checks to see if we need help ordering instead of ordering from the QR code menu. Shan Xi Magic Kitchen is located in the ultra competitive Convoy Asian District specifically on Convoy Street within the Convoy Village shopping center. The restaurant is next to our fave Asian drink place called Yun Tea, it's next to Olleh KBBQ, next door to Szechuan Chef, and a short walk to BB.Q Chicken. This is a popular strip mall, so it could be challenging for you to find parking. Parking is free for 90 minutes, but you'll have to pay after that time ends. Shan Xi is nice inside with gray brick on their walls, decorative lighting surrounded by rattan, Chinese dolls on a shelf, Chinese inspired figurine art on another wall, and a beautiful curio/screen containing Chinese knick knacks. Seating consists of tables/chairs and a long leather bench. Our servers were friendly, but to me having to order from a QR code is impersonal. I'd rather talk to a person, so that I can ask what they recommend. Plus, if diners aren't familiar with this type of cuisine, I'm sure they would have a bunch of questions. From Shan Xi Magic Kitchen's website, "Bringing the bold flavors of Northwest China to San Diego, Shan'xi Magic Kitchen serves authentic regional specialties. Our restaurants specialize in hand-pulled noodles, savory bread-based dishes, and traditional Chinese comfort food prepared with time-honored techniques." After being told that Shan Xi was similar to their positive dining experience at a different Chinese restaurant in Vegas, my brother and SIL tried Shan Xi and they were impressed by what they ate here and told us that we needed to eat here ourselves. Since my wife and I were off midweek, we invited our son to join us for lunch. We ordered the following dishes and feel free to mimick what we ordered: spicy cumin lamb burger, hand pulled noodle with cumin beef, beef magic fried rice, dry fried green beans, and a side of white rice. My brother and SIL love the lamb burger as a appetizer and we really thought it was tasty too. If you're not a spicy fan, this might not be for you, but the lamb was tender. The pita bread needed to be softer. Their hand pulled noodle with cumin beef was stellar, chewy, and delectable. Loved their beef magic fried rice and it ate really well by itself. The fried green beans were addicting, garlicky, and just yummy. I'm a fan Shan Ci and can't wait to try their other entrees. My brother and SIL were spot on with their positive reviews about Shan Xi Magic Kitchen. It was a blessing to have a spontaneous meet up with 3/4s of my fam and grub on some memorable Chinese food.

At first, she said the order only could be done on 1 bill. And then later she compromised with 2 bills, 5 people per table. That was nice of her! I just had 2 coffees before entering so I decided to skip ordering Thai tea. But they had a large drink menu, of fruit teas and more. My friend had the lychee tea which was very large and looked super refreshing! They also came by often to top off our waters which was nice. To eat, I ordered the $16.99~, Cashew Chicken Stir Fry with White Rice. It came with onion, green onion, carrots, zucchini, bell pepper, and cashews. The carrots were beautifully cut, but a little too crunchy for me to properly enjoy in the stir fry. Everything else was delicious! I think this could definitely be shared between 2-3 people. It was a lot for me, even after a large hike. The sauce was flavorful and not overly salty. I didn't ask for any spice level, but I think I'd choose mild or medium next time. It reminded me a little of chicken satay~ it smelled and looked incredible. I think I might order it next time, when I want something light and fulfilling after a hike. - $11.99, Cream Cheese Avocado Wontons (6PC): These came out piping hot and when you took a bite they were oozing. The restaurant used thin rice noodles, but it didn't clump excessively compared to other restaurants. The prices are what you'd typically see at a Pan-Asian restaurant, a few dollars more than what you'd want to spend. But these kinds of restaurants, in my opinion, are for enjoying with others. So, if you're sharing food and all that-- the price is worth it (esp with the quantity that is given). Next time, I would probably order one of their noodle dishes rather than rice.
