Our unexpected visit for lunch was a good one. New Garden is set up as both a takeout restaurant and for dining in. We opted to dine in and sat at one of a row of booths. The menu listed both lunch and dinner prices for a long list of familiar dishes. I like Chinese food and it had been long since I had some. My favorites anymore tend to be nuggets of chicken with various sauces so today I had their Orange Chicken. I liked it, the chicken was tender, the sauce not too sweet. It came with a side of rice, I selected their pork fried rice, and a spring roll. Didn't care for the spring roll very much, it had a mushy texture inside. New Garden is not a fancy place but it was clean and the food was good. Service was fine and got the job done. The warm food was ready in under 10 minutes. read more

The other night I ordered what I ordered from my favorite Chinese restaurant the "Chopstix", which were closed for vacation and decided to use New Garden. Let me tell you it was the worst I've ever had. The gravy was like water the egg foo young with shrimp in it had two shrimp, and it was terrible. The service was terrible. I'm visiting IMG Academy for the week, this place was close by and I took a chance, even though the other reviews are mixed. I am absolutely thankful that I did! I've been here twice this week and both times were equally good! The family run business is clean and welcoming. Service was quick and easy. The food was everything I was hoping for and I was extremely happy to see Tom Kha Gai soup on the menu (at home I would have to go to a Thai restaurant to get it) I also had the Beef Teriyaki on Skewer, Chicken Teriyaki on Skewer, Fried Chicken Wings and the Beef with broccoli dinner combo with pork fried rice. What can I say . . . New Garden is solidly decent. Not outstanding, Not bad either. I have picked up food to go many times over the last 5 or 6 years and I will continue to. I like the chicken and broccoli, the pork fried rice and the pan fried dumplings. The General Tso's chicken is pretty good also. This has been the best Chinese food that we've found in Bradenton so far. Located on Cortez, next to the Publix on the corner of 43rd, it's conveniently situated and easy to find. They have had our food ready quickly each time we've visited (it was so good, we keep coming back). Don't be fooled by older, mediocre reviews. Their General Tso's chicken is to die for, and the pork fried rice side is tasty and not dry like some rices I've had elsewhere. Their vegetable lo mein is flavourful and FULL of veggies! Your normal everyday Chinese take-out place menu. Except the interior is not-so-bad and there is plenty of seating. Located in a Publix plaza with an Aldi in the parking lot, the convenience is unavoidable during those busy nights when you don't feel like cooking dinner. The most interesting fact about New Hong Kong is the tiny little portion of the menu titled, "New York Chinese." Which contains various Salt and Pepper Dishes, Gai Lan, and Steamed Fish Filets. As soon as you receive the Salt and Pepper dish, open the container and let it vent--- otherwise the deep fried goodness will steam and become soggy. A nice little dive for lunch. Not classy at all but it is clean and the food is good. The atmosphere and location is nice as it is located in the Publix plaza in a quiet setting. The decor is very basic and the prices are affordable. They don't offer delivery, however, they do offer take-out. We ordered the pork chop lunch with fried rice and the Happy Family which consisted of four different meats and Chinese vegtables. The pork chop was fried well and the rice was tasty. The Happy Family had a great sauce on the entree. The portions were enough for sharing. The service was great and I will definitely visit this restaurant again. read more

I ordered takeout. The food was prepared quickly (15 min). Portions were a generous size. The Crab Rangoon was good, sweet sauce was good, egg drop soup was good, and the broccoli and shrimp was good (broccoli was cooked well, not overdone). The shrimp were large. However there were only 4 shrimp and there was too much brown sauce on the broccoli and shrimp. Also the pork fried rice was too salty; particularly the pork pieces were very salty. The rice had an odd flavor that did not appeal to me. After a few bites I decided not to eat any more of the pork fried rice. read more

Manager argued that their menu says it is an extra cost. Refused to make any concession and insisted she was right. Very rude. The restaurant has several menus online. Each menu shows the egg roll is included in the price. I recommend someone explain their English menu to them. They will not listen to their customers. By the way, the General Tso dinner had no heat and chicken was clumped and stuck together. Will not return to this location. New Garden was recommended to me by a friend and the food did not disappoint! We ordered over the phone for pick up, the inside of the restaurant is closed. We got there to pick up our order and one of the items was wrong so we waited a few minutes. The food was delicious! We ordered shrimp fried rice, miso soup, and general tso's tofu. Outrageous delivery fee of $4.28 while other Chinese restaurants in the area are $2. Minimum order for delivery is $20. It took over 2 hours to get our food. We ordered online and after 1 1/2 hours of no food I called (ordered at 1:30pm, called at 3pm). The guy that answered the phone said, "Blah blah stupid excuse blah. Do you still want it?" No, we will just gnaw on our arms. Of course we did! We were thinking it would get here quickly. NOT! Another 45 minutes later (3:45pm) we received our disappointing food. We paid for Yum Yum sauce, it was missing. We ordered Honey Chicken and they forgot to put the honey on it. So it was basically hard, overcooked chicken nuggets. The Pork Fried Rice was very bland and tasteless. The Wonton Soup broth had no flavor but the wontons in the water, I mean soup, were good. The quart of Wonton Soup is $4.99. Lunch specials are overpriced at $6.99 which includes Pork Fried Rice and an Egg Roll. The portions are no where near as much as other lunch specials at Chinese restaurants. I will tell you what was good: the Egg Foo Young and brown gravy. I ordered Shrimp Egg Foo Young but there were only 2 pieces of small shrimp in each of the cakes (2 cakes). Besides that, the flavor was excellent. I added Pork Fried Rice but the system defaulted to Brown Rice which tastes like cardboard. Yes, I tasted cardboard before (just kidding). The Egg Rolls were really good and cooked perfectly but way overpriced ($1.60). In summary, finally, I would not recommend New Garden Chinese & Tai Restaurant on Cortez Rd in Bradenton. For a lot less money you can get more for your money, and taste buds, elsewhere. My recommendation: The absolute best Chinese food ever is at New Hong Kong Restaurant on Cortez in Bradenton. The lunch specials are only $5.75 which includes Pork (or other) Fried Rice and an Egg Roll and for an extra 75 cents you can get one of their awesome soups. The portions are huge! And Egg Rolls are only $1.10 each. Delivery is $2 with a $12 minimum. Unfortunately they are closed on Mondays which is why we ordered at New Garden. Live & learn! read more

Best I can do is the Egg Drop soup wasn't terrible, but kinda hard to blow that. I ordered Kung Pao Shrimp moderately spicy. Didn't want to get into a hot pepper war at a Chinese restaurant. Kung Pao is a spicy dish. It's supposed to have red peppers, it's supposed to be hot. First off they made chicken. My spouse ordered online, maybe we screwed that part up. Anyway the person on the phone said that's what we ordered. Told him no spice or peppers, that I didn't think it was Kung Pao. He asked if it had peanuts(yes)"That's Kung Pao". But their idea of moderately spicy is apparently waving a red pepper over the wok and hoping the scent adds some heat and flavor to the dish. Maybe you'll like it. Excellent family run restaurant with a full selection of Chinese dishes. As important as the food is that the place is spotlessly clean. You could literally eat off of the porcelain tile floors. I recommend the hot and sour soup and the sesame shrimp but there are many other great items to eat. The owners even happily stayed open late for our family to finish our meal. I was beyond pleasantly surprised at how good this place is! I ordered steamed shrimp and vegetables from the diet menu, and my husband ordered the pork lo mein lunch special. I was bowled over at both the quality of the food, but also the portion sizes. My vegetables (broccoli, bok choy, mushrooms, bamboo shoots, and carrots) were all cooked perfectly, so they were crisp and had great texture. They gave me around nine shrimp, and they were of a good size, too. I got garlic sauce on the side, and it was super delicious - but I could measure out exactly how much I wanted. My husband's lo mein is tasty and chock full of pork, served with a heaping portion of fried rice. He also got an eggroll, which is tasty fried goodness. Recently moved to the area and decided to try to find a Chinese restaurant to call our own. We placed a carry out order over the phone. The gentleman was quick on the phone and took my order, said it would be ready in 15 minutes. When we arrived, our bag of food was already waiting to be picked up, and we paid and left. When we arrived home, we were disappointed to find that we were missing rice. My friend had ordered general tso chicken and sweet & sour chicken, both (according to their website), come with white rice. We had no white rice anywhere in our meal. We also ordered crab rangoon - 4 piece. These were cold, and tasted like it was just cream cheese and nothing else. I tasted no crab, no garlic, just a mouthful of cream cheese. We have gotten food from New Garden before, but tonight the food was pretty much inedible. We ordered General Tso's all white meat chicken and brown rice. I literally could not get my fork into the pieces of chicken to pick up a piece - hard as a bullet - and the brown rice was similarly dry and hard. I don't know whether the meal was over cooked or undercooked, but the broccoli with it was the best part of the meal and it was definitely al dente. Stay away from the General Tso's all white meat chicken option. read more
