We stopped by on a Sunday for a quick lunch before our broadway show. It wasn't busy at all when we got there as there were only 1 other party that sat at the back. It is a self service restaurant, so we ordered at the cashier and were given a buzzer for when our food is ready. Ordering was also very easy as they had their menu with photos behind the counter. We ordered their bao bao noodles, beef noodle soup and popcorn chicken rice. The noodles were al dente, the bao bao noodles was very flavorful, savory and not too spicy. I wish the beef is a little more tender but the soup base was very hearty and packed with flavor. The only complaint is the cabbage is huge and I found it very hard to eat especially when I'm trying not to splash the soup all over myself.The popcorn chicken rice was everyone's favorite. They used chicken thighs so there's no dry chicken. The meat was moist and tender, crispy on the outside and the breading was nicely seasoned. I found the portion size was decent and price is very reasonable. The staff were friendly as they even brought the food to our table for us and service was quick. Overall, this is a great option if you need to grab a quick bite. The noodle dishes definitely hit the spot when it's a cold day outside. I would definitely return when I'm in the area next time.
Bao Bao Cafe is located in quite a bustling touristy area in NYC but it is actually very good (unlike most places in the area truth be told). I had the vegetable ramen & the seaweed salad along with a chrysanthemum tea. Everything was delicious but I do wish that they had put more mushrooms in the ramen as I had only gotten one/two of them. Maybe I'm weird, but I do like mixing the seaweed with ramen, a nice mix of cold & hot haha. I liked that I didn't feel rushed while eating as again, it is quite a busy place. I would go back & try their other ramen on a cold day.
This is a great place in midtown for a quick and hearty meal! Its very affordable too and the staff are very friendly. I felt bad that I showed up near closing time (not intentionally, I wanted to show up earlier but the trains were super delayed- I swear the MTA needs to count their friggin days). But I was hungry and needed food before my dance class. The pork belly bowl was pretty good so I can see why that was popular
We stopped by after work one day and I was surprised by how busy it was. We found seats in the back but almost every table was occupied. I like that it's almost like a fast casual restaurant. No table service so you don't have to tip. I also like that the noodle soups and hot pot options are all customizable. I liked the beef noodle soup. It really hit the spot on a cold day and the spice was decent for medium spice. My friend didn't love the bao bao rice because there wasn't much flavor. The prices are pretty good though for the portion size so I'd go back for the soup dishes. The cashier/server was also very cute and energetic.
Great prices and surprisingly large portions. I ordered the Bam Bam noodles and there was lot of noodles and a lot of pork! I do wish there were a little more variety in this dish though, like maybe a few more vegetables. The flavor was good, but I definitely preferred the taste of the Bao Bao noodles that my partner ordered. I will most likely come back sometime and try some of the other items on their menu!
Bao bao cafe offers fast casual Chinese food, with huge portions at very reasonable prices (especially considering the location!). I'm glad I didn't get an appetizer because I was stuffed. The bao bao noodles I ordered was also pretty packed with meat, they really don't skimp here. The food came out quick too, so it's a good spot if you are looking to grab something quick or are on the go.

Coming off the NY Penn subway from Madison square garden, only 2 blocks away is this gem of a restaurant. They have house made teas (I ordered the iced lemon tea), and great comfort Asian food. This is not as authentic as Chinatown food, but hey when you're starving off the subway, this does the job. I was welcomed by a super sweet Asian lady who also told us what the most popular meals were. The ambiance of the place is pretty spacious & there is a pretty clean bathroom for customers only. I ordered the beef noodle soup, the meat was super tender & I was happily shocked it wasn't dry! The soup itself is pretty decent (again with the location it's pretty good). Pricing is super solid throughout too. Also ordered the Taiwanese popcorn chicken, serving size is truly good for one person. It is spicier than you think, so go down on spice when in doubt.
Stop by for their lunch special pork belly over rice. It was a good deal and the severing size was enough to fill you up. I like the flavor of the pork belly. However the meat on the pork belly was very dry and tough to eat. But the fat and the skin were very good. I like the addition of the lettuce as it helps cut down the fattiness of the pork. Although their menu is not very large they have a lot of good lunch options.
Ordered Bao Bao cafe the popcorn chicken lunch box and it was terrible. The pieces of "chicken" was only fried dough. I could not taste any chicken pieces in there. I opened one up and it was literally breading! The daikon, egg and steamed broccoli were the highlight of this dish. Would not ordered again.
I went here with my besties on a Tuesday. It was pretty busy, however the food comes out promptly. The ambiance as well as its mostly groups of friends eating and chatting over yummy noodles. My friends got the Bam Bam noodles and hot pot noodles which they enjoyed and would order again. I would not get the beef noodles again because the meat was a little tough for my teeth, I would try the bam bam noodles! The fried squid was oily, but tolerable. The popcorn chicken (not pictured) and spring rolls were also a good choice for an appetizer. Thank you guys for the food and dining experience. Keep up the great work!
Good portions and flavor! It's in time square kind of tucked away. Very fast service too! I was craving popcorn chicken and this hit the spot

The tables and décor of high quality, ornate in an oriental theme. I thought it was very welcoming and open. Service (5/5): Order at the front, provided a buzzer, and pick up at the front. The lady in the front was extremely friendly and treated her guests with politeness and a smile! Bao Bao noodles (Medium spice) (5/5): The meal is super affordable and large portions! It was a generous helping of ground meat and then large cuts of Chinese cabbage. The soup was warm, salty, and spicy! Yum** High ratings might be inflated due to an offer of free popcorn chicken if you leave a review (FYI - I did not do this, but plan to show this review so I can redeem next time haha)
Decent, cheap and fast but nothing special. Food: we ordered the popcorn chicken, boas and the boa boa noodles. The chicken was too salty. The noodles were fine but compared to other places in the city not worth it. The boa was good, it was pork! One thing that always is off to me, is when restaurants don't offer tap water. Quick, convenient, and cheap!! It's a take out style place with some sitting and good food. I recommend the beef noodle soup. It was very spice forward rather than beef like the more traditional Taiwanese beef noodle soup but nonetheless very good. The beef is super tender and it comes with a lot. The vegetables add a certain sweetness to it. One of the best Taiwanese beef noodle soups I've had in America. I also saw a lot of people getting the fried chicken bento which comes with some sides. read more

The place was huge . Neat and clean . I ordered my noodles and grabbed a seat . The noodles were perfectly cooked, the ratio of minced meat was great. But the food lacked flavor . It was okay but not great . The service was great. read more
Okay, this place is a little pricey but a really good healthier lunch spot for FiDi. Service is also really quick with a good amount of indoor seating and takeaway options. It's really clean and fresh inside. I made my own beef bolgogj bowl and they have literally anything you could ever want in your bowl. I appreciated that they let you pick so many things to put in your bowl for no additional cost (besides proteins or specialty add-ins). For example I loaded up my bowl base with so many veggies and sauces --it was delicious and very filling! They give you a good amount of meat on top! read more
Loved our visit to Bao Bao Cafe near our hotel at our last NYC visit. The Bao Bao noodles with spicy ground pork and baby bok choy was so good - you can choose your own spice level and even though I chose medium, they gave me mild but it still had a good kick. Super quick, no frills spot serving local Chinese favorites! My fiancé and I stumbled upon this place after a gym workout. They were closing in 30 minutes but were still happy to serve us, reassuring us that food comes out quickly within 5 minutes. And it sure did come out quickly! We ordered the popcorn chicken over rice and pork belly over rice. Both were extremely flavorful and filling portions. And super affordable prices as well. I got the bao bao noodles and added shaved lamb (can never tell the difference between lamb and beef but it was awesome) Two for one special on Uber eats. I work a couple blocks away so it was a no brained to order myself some lunch and have an entire meal extra for some point this week (probably the same night because soups like this tend to go quick unless I freeze it.... I'll let you know... no I won't) This was so filling, so delicious, and so fresh! I really enjoyed this! The only thing I might change is maybe just easing back in the salt, jussssssst a touch less, it wasn't overbearing really I just wouldn't mind a half a touch less salt. read more

Reliable, authentic, flavorful, fast-accommodating service, and affordable -- in Midtown is how I would describe this restaurant. I've been here a few times to pick up lunch during the work day and each time it's been quite fast -- 5-10 minutes (10 when it's quite busy). When you arrive, you can place your order with the cashier and check in on Yelp for a 15% discount (they do honor it actually). There's usually plenty of seating earlier in the week (I assume people WFH) and then sometimes there's no seating at all. The place is relatively clean and spacious (so not everyone is crowded on top of each other). The menu is filled with plenty of authentic options that I will try at some point. I've only ordered one product on the menu, which is their popcorn chicken lunch box (which includes rice, a tea egg (yay! reminds me of my grandma/aunt), and daikon (pickled radish). It's reliable, plentiful, crispy, and nicely coated with spices. It comes out hot and ready to eat. The price for this meal is definitely on the cheaper end for the area. After a whole touring day of walking and subwaying in the city I wanted a no-fuss place for dinner that was close to the hotel. Found this spot and overall pretty decent food! --------------- Popcorn chicken: enjoyed the five spice flavor but wished that it was more crispy Bam bam noodles: no skimping on the ground pork though the whole dish could've had a little more flavor Char siu bao: fluffy bun! Slightly sweeter than other char siu baos that I've had. Not a bad thing though especially as it reminded me a lot of Filipino siopao haha Eel with rice: good portion of tender eel. Pretty balanced meal with all of the fixings (egg, radish, broccoli, seaweed)! --------------- Small, chill, order-at-the-counter spot with a few tables for dining. I arrived 30 minutes before closing and at that time food could be ordered only for takeout. read more
I stopped by here with my friend for some aunthetic southern Chinese noodles with varieties of topping. This place also serves dishes like rice. Atmosphere feels cozy. I heard that popular menu items are Bao Bao Noodles, Little Hot Pot, and Pork Belly with Rice. Everything tastes fresh and delicious and reasonable prices. I had great experience dining here with great service and good quality food. read more

This cafe caught my eye as it's near my workplace. Got takeout with colleagues ~2PM on a Tuesday. It was packed with people eating and lining to order. The restaurant was also very busy preparing orders, so it was a 10 minute wait. They also ended up forgetting my colleague's order, so the total wait time was longer. I got the popcorn chicken, mild. For the portion size, it seemed worth it! Unfortunately the vegetables and the chicken itself were really salty. The popcorn chicken was also a bit too spicy for me, so it was not fun. I think if they decreased the salt (and clarified the spice levels), this would be my go-to place while in the area. They have a fridge of drinks. I thought it was amusing that the soy milk uses Canadian soybeans (I'm from Canada). Lots of seating inside, whether you come alone or with 4-person groups. Overall, would recommend trying this place out. read more

I stopped in for lunch and ordered a couple of noodle soups to go and I think this is a new fav that's going to be in my lunch rotation. I ordered a little hot pot and added fish balls and they let you choose the spice level. I chose mild just to try and next time I'll choose medium. The cashier taking the order was really sweet, I didn't know about the spice level option and had to call my friend to ask what level she wanted while the cashier kindly waited lol. When I stopped in close to noon it was nice and empty, I beat the lunch rush because while I was waiting for my food a few more patrons started trickling in. Once I was able to unpack my soup it was neatly in 2 separate containers, one for the noodles/toppings and another for the hot broth--LOVE that. The soup was delicious of course, I inhaled the entire thing and I will happily be back to try the other menu items. read more

A huge fan of bao bao cafe. You can count on me to come here at least once when I come to New York for work. I came here with my colleagues and they have nothing but great thing to say about their food. I've tried their popcorn chicken, their beef noodle soup, roast pork bun. And I haven't had a dish that's not short of delicious. The staff are always friendly and helpful too. This place is a solid lunch spot, or a casual dinner spot. The food was fast to be ready as well; Its safe to say I will come back for many times in the future. read more
