Yur is fabulous. We were visiting Portland during the Kentucky Derby and Yur was two blocks from our Airbnb. We showed up in the female bartender, could not have been nicer to us. By the time the race started all the TVs were on the race, and the only sound was from the TVs. The fact that it was a fabulous race also helped the winning horror went from last to first as did Yur in our estimation. read more

The staff is welcoming across the board, but Jubilee and Cherie take the cake as their efficiency and grace behind the bar keeps everything moving at a rhythmic pace. I've been going to Yur's for many years now and have always found the bartenders--particularly Jubilee, Cherie and Scotty--to be the gold standard of professionalism and friendliness. As a service industry worker myself I've always admired their ability to quickly get drinks out while still being individually engaging and making each customer feel welcome. The food is consistently of good quality with a solid late night menu and great weekly specials--shout out to Gibson and Ross! Overall, there's a reason this bar has such a loyal customer base. I've been going here for a few years now and at first the food was really good I was actually surprised at the quality for a dive bar but over the past year it's gotten worse and worse. The quality of the meat has declined for the prime rib sandwich and I was in there the other night and ordered from the late night menu chicken strips and tater tots but just asked that no extra salt be added to the tater tots because I have a heart condition. When they brought the basket out to me the guy threw it on the table and said well I can't do anything if there's salt in the batter on the chicken and I said oh that's fine I just didn't want any extra on the tots but then when I started eating the food I realized that the entire thing was floating in about an inch of oil. The tots were completely uncooked and basically just raw and sitting in a ton of oil. I put a napkin down in the bottom of the basket and it soaked up some of the oil and then I put some in a box to try to take it home when I got home the bottom of the box was full of oil and then when I warmed it up in the toaster oven it had several tablespoons of oil come out of it. I think maybe the cook was upset that I didn't want salt on my tater tots? I'm not really sure what happened but I wouldn't recommend eating the food here. The female bartenders here are great though and really sweethearts so I highly recommend going to them for drinks I just skip the food. read more

My friend and I visited Yur's Bar & Grill for Portland Burger Week, as they featured a Yur a Wizard Burger with that fake Cheez Whiz sauce for only six bucks, but what we found was more than just a good, cheesy burger at Yur's. Located in the Alphabet District, Yur's Bar & Grill is the epitome of a dive bar, which I am not complaining about! I'm a dive bar fan and this one is one I would frequent if I lived in the area. Dark lighting, unappealing exterior but a lively, fun atmosphere once you walk inside and craft beers on tap. My friend and I ordered the burger special with fries and local beers. On a Friday night the place was packed. Many people were playing pool or just hanging around at their tables or bar. For food, an employee comes by to drop off you order for you at the table. The Yur a Wizard Burger was delicious. There's not much to this casual burger and that's the beauty of it. Simply put, the burger was comprised of a soft bun, patty from the griddle, topped with that fake Cheez Whiz sauce that everyone loves and chopped onion. Crinkle fries on the side with housemade ranch to complete this divey meal. I'm a fan. read more

I was there on Sunday for the first time since moving to Portland, I was very disgusted by the food and service. they had made my boyfriend wait in line for a decent amount of time before taking his order, then we proceeded to order food which was horrible tasting. after we finished our food my boyfriend went to close our tab and he was very unsatisfied with the serivce. so it's a choice you make to tip on the experience you receive, so he didn't tip the bartender procceded to come up to our table to ask why she didn't receive a tip and then yelled across the bar how it was a $73 tab with no tip. I was very disgusted by her behavior and it was super embarrassing on her part to walk up to our table to ask why. never in the 24 years of my life have a had a experience like that and the she proceeded to charge my boyfriend card not just the $73 for Sunday but and additional $65 fucking dollars On Monday. when we only went on SUNDAY!!! she is a white curly headed lady poor service and I won't be recommending anyone to go to this trash place. read more

The red headed bartender in there on Saturday and Sunday is absolutely terrible. We just came from there, and I must say it was possibly the worst service I've EVER had. My wife and I are frequent patrons at Yurs, but whenever we encounter this particular bartender, she just makes known that she doesn't like us being there. I think she may be racist. She caused a nice little scene tonight for no reason. Unacceptable.We love this local gem of a bar from the drinks, to the food, and the laid back vibe... but she is rude, and is holding a grudge against us for not tipping her horrible service and attitude. I like the place, or well...I used to. I'm black and white and I was having a civil discussion. I was being respectful, dropped no trigger words and gave everyone time to speak their truth. I did not conflict and I caused no problems. All of it an be observed on CCTV on the date of 07/20/2024 I was talking about a hot topic, but I was respectful. A black man talking about their issues and having a white woman tell me my words aren't welcome doesn't exude safety. Normally I don't care but I'm trying to find a regular place to exist. I used expletives, no racial slurs, no controversial verbiage. I was kicked out because I am perceived as being a great for no reason. I left to see a better place to be welcomed. read more
