I usually make it a habit to go to Pepe's Panaderia on Madison, but I was too early since it opens at seven so I went to Yvette's bakery instead. I had been there two times before, but couldn't remember why I stopped going well now I remember!I got two puercos and a tamale which was decent but nothing spectacular the ones at Cardenas taste better. I have attached a video of said Mexican bread that literally felt and tasted like it was made Thursday, it was SOOOOOOOOOO DRY it crumbled when I tore a piece off! This place is not cheap by any means so I expect FRESH items and that was not the case. Next time I will wait the additional hour and Go to Pepe's they open later but AT LEAST everything is fresh! read more

I always come here for the Pan and it never disappoints. Today after church we decided to stop and get fresh sweet bread and try the Tamales. Well I wish I could say they were great but I was disappointed because they were all Masa and very little jalapeño and cheese. I get it it's a lot of work to make tamales but I don't think I would be happy trying to order them again especially at 3.10 a piece. read more

I've had this place bookmarked for quite some time, and I've been looking for a place that serves great tamales. This is a small bakery that opens early, and was busy with a steady stream of customers, which I took as a sign that this place was good. Most were getting pastries and bread (which you help yourself to and place on a tray & pay at register), but some were also ordering tamales. They also serve smoothies! Ordered two and a half dozen tamales (18 cheese and a dozen pork) but when we got home realized that all the tamales looked alike; as none were marked or separated; and we were given chicken instead of pork. Once reheated, the tamales tasted amazing. We also got a dozen mini conchas at 70c each. Pretty affordable and tasty. The tamales were $35/dozen. Will be back again! read more

This place gets the business because it's the only one in this general area. Tamales are made with canned meat not fresh. Bread is mid at best. I once found a hair in one of my sweet breads. Came to try the tamales and glad I did! The pork tamales are very close to the way my mom makes them, very delicious! The masa tends to break apart, but other than that they're yummy! The parking lot is small, so go before lunch time to avoid it being full. I haven't tried the Mexican bread yet, but I'll have to try it next time. read more

Used to come here multiple times for tamales and sweet bread. Unfortunately the tamales today were not fully done. They sold me 2 dozen tamales that had just come out of the pot and were extremely mushy. Aren't tamales supposed to be solid? HORRIBLE customer service and tamales. I had bought from this place multiple times in the past few years and never any complaints until today. I went in and bought 1 dozen chicken tamales (our usual order) we got home and were ready to dig in as we noticed they were all fully undercooked still. I'm talking masa sticking to ur fingers undercooked. The bag was still warm so we figured we'd let them sit for a bit to see if theyd finish cooking on their own. 1 hr later we checked back and basically no difference. Still fully raw masa in the middle of them so we held out hope and threw them in the air fryer but that didn't help. Now we have 5 tamales with a raw middle and burnt outer layer. We drove back to request an exchange and they told us with some hesitation they can only give us an exchange for the 7 we brought to them in a baggie. My husband and I looked as each other with a half ass grin and accepted it. Then we got home and wouldn't u guess it these were even more raw than the first match :) Once again we drove back this time with the intention of just getting our money back. Keep in mind these tamales are $3.50 each. $3.50 x 12 =$42.00 . The lady saw us and immediately went to the back and started talking to her co coworkers, prob telling them we returned lol . We tell her everything that just happened and say we'd like a refund and she tells us she can't do that but she can give us pork tamales, no ty for obvious reasons. I push for the full refund and she starts explaining to me like I'm a 4 yr old kid that their tamales are indeed cooked so I tell her she can open one from the bag infront of me to check and see that the masa sticks to ur fingers so she does and with a fully raw tamale right infront of her she sticks to her story that it is a cooked tamale. She then proceeds to prove my point by saying that they cook their tamales in big batches for 1 hr and a half and that u then have to let them sit for hours so they fully cook through and that these had just finished coming out of a fresh batch so they need time to finish cooking. I'm sorry what ? R u telling me exactly wat im telling u ? That u just sold me 2 batches of undercooked in other words RAW tamales ? After 10 mins of a slightly heated back and forth she gets her coworker who tells me the same thing. Above all in the end they said all they can do is give me a refund for the ones I had in the baggie 7/12. After telling her the other 5 r in the trash at home she tells me she can't only give me a re fund for wat I brought back. Thats $20 down the drain and 2 round trips of gas to the bakery. Love the conchas but the other day I ordered a torta. Asked the girl working the register what options they had she said ham, pork and chicken. I ordered the pork torta. Let me tell you the torta was just a pork tamales in a Bolio! When I got home I was so upset. When you think of a torta you think lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise, maybe some kind of cheese and sometimes beans spread on the bread and then whatever protein. The fact that she gave me a tamale and bread with nothing else was a shocker. I even asked her what kind of meat comes in the torta and she said a none spicy pork. Clearly not a good explanation. I only order red pork tamales so that's what I did, I am hooked! This will be my go to for delicious and authentic tamales just like my grandmother made. My husband and I were out in Riverside yesterday morning and I wanted a little snack. I looked on yelp for tamales. I read some reviews and decided to check this place out. I was a bit concerned about the parking, but the parking lot was pretty empty when we arrived. There were only two people in line in front of me, which was great. I asked for a cheese and jalapeno tamale (my favorite type!), but the cashier told me that they wouldn't be ready for about 10 minutes. I ordered a pork tamale, and I ate it in the car. The pork tamale was very good, so we went back and I ordered cheese and jalapeno, pork, and chicken tamales. Unfortunately, the cheese and jalapeno tamale was my least favorite. There was way too much masa. The chicken was good, but half of it had a bunch of green sauce and the other half was dry. The pork was definitely my favorite. It had just the right amount of spiciness. My quest for a to-die-for cheese and jalapeno tamale continues. read more

I have had such a craving for a polvorone- the pink sugar cookie crusted with sugar. So I did a search and found Yvette's bakery near my work. Came this morning and went off my diet because everything looked so yummy and fresh! Seems like a good place to go in the morning, as they have champurado and tortas as well. Good parking although I can see it gets busy in the peak hours. I was happy to try their pork tamales with red sauce, (delicious)! Nice size and meat to masa ratio. Not too spicy and super tasty. The masa was moist and flavorful. I also bought chicken tamales (verde sauce), a mini concha and a mini elephant ear cookie. Dug into all of them right away- that will be my lunch I guess! All were equally delicious and better than I expected. And the polvorone? Well that was awesome. A little chewy, but crumbly and just the right amount of sweetness. Photos are with fork so you can see the size. Can't wait to come back for my Christmas tamales! There was only one person ringing, so you need to grab a tray and pick your own pastries and line up. Parking is atrocious, but it's worth it. Craving a sweet bread and some bolios for our breakfast we found them off google maps. When you enter the trays and tongs are to your left. You help yourself with the pasties and fill up the tray as much as you want. Once you're done you proceed to the cash register to pay for the goods.
