I stopped into Z Burger and decided to try the chicken sandwich and some fries. You can add whatever toppings you want to your sandwich. There are some additional toppings that you can add for an up charge. I did not see but perhaps overlooked a combo meal option with fries and a drink. I ordered a small fry but the portion seemed to be at medium. The sandwich was okay. I'm always a fan of a little salt and pepper but this chicken sandwich did not seem to have any. I think the burgers here are really good. I love that they have so many options for toppings. Reminds me of five guys. They also have an assortment of milkshakes to choose from. I ordered a cheeseburger and 1/2 fries & 1/2 onion rings. The food is made to order so it comes fresh. Service was fast. The employee that took our order was pleasant. The cheeseburger was good. I ate a lot of z burger while in college. I'm glad there are more locations. For me the onion rings, cheesesteak, and ordering extra sauce is the move. I actually prefer z burger over 7th street burger that recently opened up. I even recommended z burger to my coworker and he ended up ordering it the same night I did. Food came out pretty quickly which is always a challenge with onions rings because they've always fried them fresh when I'd order them in person. Big fan of z burger, some of the pricing seems expensive now and this time the onion rings were a bit oilier than I remember. I still highly recommend it. read more

I've been wanting to try Z Burger for a while now! I'm glad I got a chance yesterday as I was really craving onion rings and figured a burger along with it would be a great idea. So off to Z burger I went! When I got in, there was only one other customer in front of me. The guy taking my order was friendly and assured me that eating fried onions in my burger is a good idea since it would be my first time. I ordered a lettuce wrapped turkey burger and the onion rings. He asked me if I wanted cheese, and I said yes. When I got my receipt and sat down to wait, I was surprised by a couple of hidden costs. The first was the cheese which I was not told had an extra charge of two dollars. The second is that there was a packaging fee for one dollar. Since I wasn't asked if the order was to go or not, I'm assuming that they charge this to each customer? When I got home, I thoroughly enjoyed the burger and loved the balance of the pickles and mushrooms And cheese, but I surprisingly could not taste the fried onions!! I was disappointed with the onion rings. The quantity was astounding as they came in a pretty large paper snack bag, but that makes sense since they cost eight dollars. I felt like the onion rings were more Dough than actual onion. They were crispy and freshly made, but I felt disappointed and would've probably satisfied my craving with frozen onion rings that I could buy from the grocery store. I was really excited when I saw the dessert menu and was amazed that you could choose from shakes or concrete! We had visited the one in Tenleytown years ago, so we were interested in trying out the new one that had just opened off of Pickett. The menu offers hand-crafted burgers, chicken sandwiches, vegetarian options (grilled cheese sandwiches and veggie (black bean) burgers), hot dogs, cheesesteaks, fries, onion rings, and hand-spun shakes & malts. Standard toppings include mayo, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, fried onions, sauteed mushrooms, ketchup, and mustard; in terms of sauces, they have the Z-Sauce, BBQ, hot sauce, A1, honey mustard, mango mayo, and chipotle mayo. They also have the following free toppings available: raw onions, jalapeno peppers, green peppers, relish, banana peppers, crushed red peppers, sweet peppers, sauerkraut, honey mustard, pepper & salt, and Z-Seasoning. Goal: Wanted fries to go with leftovers. I had been to Z Burger before but not this location. I had been to this location when it was a Jerry's Subs and thus when finding out that was closed I found out about this location. When I stopped in there was one group eating and otherwise the restaurant was empty. Despite this the person behind the counter on their cellphone did not look up. I stood semi in front of him, no dice. I moved to checkout area, no dice. I pretended to look at menu, no dice. I clicked the "Welcome" screen they have next to the fastpay in case it was a self order, as far as I could tell it was not. I looked over at the guy who finally looked up and took my order. As mentioned by another review, there's a charge for serving and packaging. Mine was $.49 so I guess, comparing with that review, it scales with your order size. I was annoyed but I assumed that was carry out (not dissimilar from plastic bag charges at grocery store) but reading it also applies to dine in seems a shady way to avoid making prices higher. There is no warning I saw that this charge would be applied. For those two things 4*s. Other than that no real fuss, it was just fries. Goal achieved. Came with napkins, z-sauce (think sweet thousand island) and ketchup without prompting. The fries are (still) good, comparable to 5 Guys, a smidge less oily and firmer. The large is outragously sized for 1 person even bigger than 5 Guys (also more expensive). Unlike 5 Guys, they have 3 sizes making me wonder if the regular is sized like 5 Guys large. I also noticed they sell pizza there which the other ZBurger location I went to did not - I cannot say if this one is special or they're brancing. Also the seating seemed a bit tight but I didn't eat there so didn't affect my review. Maybe review update some day. This was maybe the best burger I have had in my life; and I am 47 and have had many burgers;)!! I got the double cheese burger today with grilled onions, lettuce, tomato, mayo and ketchup. The bun was fresh, and the patties were perfectly cooked and the grilled onions and cheese were just the perfect amount. I am SO glad I finally tried this place in my new hood. Way better than Five Guys, Shake Shack, Steak n' Shake, Freddie's...the list goes on. Seriously! Y'all need to go!!! Next time, I'll try the fries. I came here one day for a quick bite to eat when I was downtown for a conference. First my order was totally messed up. I seldom ask a place to redo it but it wasn't even close. I also found it interesting that this business charges a packaging fee on their order especially when I planned to dine in. I didn't need all the packaging they gave me. Although I don't eat out as much as I did pre-Covid I have never seen this fee added anywhere. I realize the cost of things have gone up but I feel this would go better pre-built into prices. Plus if it was my kid and gave them cash to pay they may not have have calculated enough based on this fee. In addition the tip screen pop up (15, 20, 25, other) when you ordered at the counter where the man at the counter stared at me and the screen. Tips are popping up allover the place and I am not sure what fast food tipping should be if any. My quick fast food meal that was not very good was $22. The place also felt pretty unclean. This was our go to burger spot for a while! Kinda reminds me of a five guys burger but not as greasy. I usually order a double bacon burger with their standard toppings (Mayo, lettuce, tomato, pickles, fried onion, sautéed mushrooms, ketchup, mustard) with z sauce on the side. I like that they give a fresh piece of tomato and lettuce. It helps balance the fatty parts of the burger. My husband had Z-Burger at the DC location a while back, and since I have not--with the BOGO offer that I got in the mail, we decided to give the place a try. It's located on the far end of the Pickett Shopping Center, right next to the Peruvian chicken place. Upon entering, I noticed that the place was a bit disorganized with highly, stacked chairs near the entrance and a circular table in the middle of the restaurant. I ended up getting two double cheeseburger (BOGO) and a small fries. You can get standard toppings (e.g. lettuce, tomato, fried onions, pickles, Mayo, etc.) as well as some other options that are all free (e.g. raw onions, green peppers, etc.). They also have premium toppings such as: bacon, fried eggs, etc. which you can get with your sandwich by paying the extra $1.75 (each). Even with the BOGO offer, I ended up paying about $20 for one double cheeseburger and a small fries (without the coupon, it would've been over $30 for two double cheeseburgers with a small fries). Not sure if the taste justifies the price as I think there are plenty of other options available for similar price range (or less) for much better quality food. As a person who had Z-Burger for the first time...the burger itself reminded me of wanna-be Five Guys' burger and the Z-Sauce was wanna-be In & Out sauce. There was nothing original nor special about the food, and definitely don't want to be paying the hefty price for them. Will I return..? I don't think so. Side Note: 1. There are limited seating inside the restaurant, so most likely you'll have to take the food to-go AND pay the packaging fee of $1.79. Apparently this can no longer can be waived as the price is already "embedded" in the system. And yes, I did ask to not charge me the fee and was denied. 2. If you do take the food to-go, they will pack the food nicely in a brown bag with a handle--and give you some of those nice Heinz ketchup packets you'll get at Chick Fil A (they have them stashed inside their counter so that ppl don't take them). If you are eating at the restaurant, you may be stuck with no-brand ketchup as these are readily available with the napkins and plastic utensils at the condiment station. 3. You can ask for all their speciality sauces and the seasoning (for the fries) on the side if you'd like. And can also ask the meat to be cooked "well done." 4. They seem to be now selling pizza and had some combo menus available, which I thought was weird given it's supposed to be a burger place. 5. There are ample amount of parking, but be careful as you enter & exit out of the shopping center as there are a lot of ongoing traffic of cars. Price: $$$ read more

This place was a major disappointment. The quality of the food was no better than Wendy's which is much less expensive. I got a turkey burger ($8.99), some onion rings ($6.99), and a root beer float ($7.29). The 11% Alexandria meal tax was $2.56. The 11% tax is riduculous and is causing Alexandria restaurants to lose orders. I can literally go less than a mile away to Fairfax County and avoid it altogether. I can avoid it more easily when I order on Grubhub or some other app. The root beer float was not a proper float with ice cream floating on top of soda--it was a milkshake watered down with 50% water. The onion rings were good, but the serving size was way too large; I don't need a half-pound of onion rings. The onions were fresh, and the batter was of good quality, similar to what you would get on fried fish. The turkey burger was OK, but the bun should have been better. There was a "service and packaging" fee of $1.40, which was extremely tacky. It was not even disclosed on the menu. Just raise the prices of your food a little bit. These fees prevent you from comparison shopping and from knowing what you are going to pay when walking into a transaction. The total is a "surpise" at the end. I specifically told them I wanted to eat on site, but when the meal was ready, they brought it out in a bag instead of on a tray. I felt like I wasn't even welcome and that they were trying to hurry me out the door. I have been noticing this more and more with restaurants lately. Even if you tell them you want to eat in, they bring the meal out to you in a to-go bag. If you politely explain to them that you want to eat there, they seem to be confused. Service at Alexandria restaurants has been getting really strange since the pandemic started. The total was $27.23. If I had come here with a family of four instead of by myself, I would have paid $100 for a mediocre meal, totally unjustifiable. It would be better just to go to McDonald's. For those that don't know Jerry's Subs and Pizza used to occupy this space and the level of cleanliness then was terrible. I was greeted by clean floors, tables, and clean bathrooms. No evidence of mice or roaches! For food I had the Bacon Cheeseburger which was on par with Five Guys, so amazing. I ordered the small fries and wow so big for the size of the fries and it looks like they have pizza too. I'll have to come back and try the pizza. read more

Also, they charge an additional "packaging fee" on orders that won't show as a line item on the screen, but it will show up in the subtotal (on the screen) and it will show up on the receipt.
