Was a big supporter of Five Guys early on and used to eat at DuPont Circle Five Guys often. As In and Out and Shake Shack started getting all the buzz, I always chimed in for Five Guys. Lately I've enjoyed coming back with the kids for mini burgers. This King Street location has turned me off for good. Visited on July 4 for a hotdog. It wasn't even busy and I stood at the register across from the staff member who said nothing and completely ignored me. I checked the signage and looked for a self serve screen to make sure I wasn't missing something. No, she just couldn't be bothered to take my order. While I waited I heard the manager take a phone call and apologize to the caller and promise a refund. Should have been a red flag, but I just wanted a hotdog so I didn't sweat it. After eventually ordering I noticed that a couple of people attempted to use the bathrooms, which were apparently locked, but there was no signage. I saw a couple of hotdogs come off the grill and they looked great. When I received mine, the ingredients were slightly off. No worries, I went to the condiment area to get some ketchup, and when I opened it the hotdog was barely warm and still had that red/pink raw hotdog color, unlike the other dogs I'd seen come off the flat top. Definitely got the sense that there are endemic performance issues at the place. I wouldn't have trusted any food they prepared so I just left and didnt even ask them to fix it. If it's like that at a prominent location like King Street, I'm not confident that they're meeting standards at other locations. Definitely not trusting them to feed my kids. read more

On August 8th at this location, I experienced poor customer service. My order totaled $15.54, and I was 12 cents short. When I explained this to the employee, I was told, 'No. We don't do that here,' with no offer to waive the small amount or find an alternative solution. It's disappointing that such a minor discrepancy would lead to a negative customer interaction, especially for a well-known chain. A small gesture of understanding would have greatly improved the experience. I, like most people these days, don't carry physical money on me on a regular basis. Of course, the next time I came in I might have left a tip, but in the future I will be taking my business to another Five Guys location. I left the location humiliated and without food. read more

I love this Five Guys location, we came here aster the Scottish parade. The free peanuts are always a hit. My Jr cheeseburger came with everything and I added jalapeños and hot side. Can't forget the fries which are typically dumped overflowing into the bag to your delight. I find the burgers are a good portion and the Cajun fries taste amazing. read more

My first Five Guys experience was back in the early 2000's along the route one corridor in Alexandria Virginia, Since then I have mined to Las Vegas, been to a few locations in Nevada and one in California . In 2024 I finally made it here, to one of the original locations on King Street. Food is always satisfying, service is always fine. read more

So I go with my family to Five Guys (we are 4) and looked for a place to sit. There was plenty of room but there are only three four-seat booths. Two were taken and the third one was occupied by an employee on her lunch break taking the entire booth for herself where she could eat somewhere else. I brought it to the attention of the manager explaining that the best sitting places should go first to paying customers. The manager brushed me off saying that the employee was on her lunch break and that I (yes I) could sit somewhere else. I explained that PAYING customers should have priority and he repeated his answer in a dismissive manner, borderline aggressive. I am sorry but when I pay over 70 dollars for four small burgers and four small fries with a small drink and just one shake, the least I could ask for is to be seated where I feel comfortable and not fight for sitting with employees. If Five Guys disagree with me then there is an issue here. Not only Five Guys is way overpriced but if in addition customers have to put up with employees' attitude and behavior then it is time to take my money elsewhere. read more

This place is an absolute disaster. If you use the app to order, they are just keeping your money, and you will not get any food. I ordered and sat down to wait. The app said my order would be ready at 1:24 p.m. At 1:30 p.m. I asked about my order at the counter and the clerk just asked my name and walked away. At 1:45 p.m. I went to the cashier and asked for my money back. The cashier called over the manager, who refused to refund my order. She argued with me about when I'd placed the order even though it said the correct time on my email receipt, and then when she realized she was wrong, she said it would take 5 days and a computer to process a refund. So this Five Guys takes at least Five Times as long as they claim to deliver a burger, and Five Days to process a simple refund. read more

A magnificent cheeseburger! Fresh and juicy. The list of toppings at no extra charge seems to be endless; lettuce, pickles, sautéed mushrooms, grilled onions, ketchup, mayonnaise, mustard. A "small" order of French fries is too much for one person. Even when closing time is just a few minutes away, the staff at this location is friendly, helpful, and cheerful. When you have that taste for a burger and fries, what better place to visit than Five Guys Burgers? Well that's exactly what we decided to do after a pleasant ride they Alexandria in a scooter. Once we got off the Park Trail, we headed to Old Town Alexandria for that big burger. It was such a pleasure to spend time with both our daughter and son. I enjoyed that double patty cheeseburger with grilled onions and mushrooms and of course that fresh cut tomato. Yes, I was able to eat it all, along with a refreshing strawberry milkshake. There's no way one person can eat the large order of French Fries, so 4 of us barely got thru it, leaving on the crumbs. My daughter along with son and wife each had a "Little Burger" which isn't so little as it's a full 1/4 lb burger. They each had their own creamy milkshake and all felt very content after their meals. One of the best things about Five Guys Burgers is the box of salted peanuts you can fill in a paper tray container. And of course I had to go for some of that, only after I filled my belly with the real good stuff. I barely had room in my belly but there's no way I'm leaving there without eating a basket full. The best part of the entire experience was our order taker. We were met with a very friendly smile and great personality. He didn't miss a beat in the order and put up with us making minor changes along the way. Well done! If you are anywhere in the area, it's so worth it. My kids and I stumbled across Five Guys after visiting the Farmer's Market on King Street in Alexandria, Virginia. Great location - just blocks from the Potomac River. Walking with a friend, we decided on lunch. 2 little cheeseburgers with ketchup at $6.81 each; 1 little cheeseburger - "all the way" minus the grilled mushrooms at $6.81; 1 hot dog with mustard, grilled onions, grilled green peppers, and grilled mushrooms at $5.55; and 1 little cheeseburger - "all the way" - at $6.81. Water as our beverage - total, including tax - $36.40. And plenty of peanuts for all... Our server - Ruby J. - was friendly and polite. Food was cooked exactly to order and timely prepared. I don't eat at Five Guys often, but it was delicious! I've always felt that Five Guys is much better than a lot of the other burger chain establishments. I like that they have the option of unlimited toppings. The menu is simple, which is a plus. No fancy nonsense where they will uncharge you. I had the regular hamburger with mushrooms, grilled onions, lettuce, and tomato, along with french fries. The hamburger was delicious and cooked just right. The fries are a greasy and delightful. I ordered the large fries, which was great two share with two friends. Although I just had water for a beverage, I do like the fact that they have one of those nice soda machines where you could mix up your soda drink with all different types of exotic flavors. There are several regular size tables as well as the high-top tables. I am not a fan of the high top table with the high chairs. Never felt as comfortable to me. Wish they had more of the standard lower tables. Probably will not come here too much in the future because I am not looking to go on any fast track for heart disease. But it's a nice treat when you have one of those treat yo self type of days. read more

Wow this is a beautiful new location. I came on their opening day and was greeted by the managers. The employees were friendly and got my order started right away. It's clear five guys cares about their quality as I saw quite a few trainers behind the counter and the managers were routinely checking in on everything. The new space is bright and airy. There are several different types of seating which is a welcome change from their previous cramped old town space. I am a five guys lover and am excited to have this be our new go to spot! read more

This is more a review for Margaret although I salute Five Guys' wise hire. If you're here about the food: The burger was bomb. Five Guys is deliciously consistent and their fries were their traditionally generous portion. The perfect feel-good meal for the occasion at a reasonable price. COVID friendly. Their line is socially distanced and patrons were respectful during my visit. -- I was having an awful time three weeks ago. It was one of those days where every stoplight is red. I usually cook. Not tonight. This burger would be my first and last meal of the day with bed soon after. Not an uncommon overworked COVID day for many. I stopped into Five Guys conceded to the worst expectations by now. It was a hold-a-folded-paper-towel-to-your-mouth-because-your-masks-mysteriously-disappeared day after all. Margaret flipped those expectations the moment we arrived at the register. Within seconds we had two masks held out to us and a sincere welcome. She made sure to clarify our order when we made a common ordering mistake. She confirmed, really, we didn't want a water cup for our wait. It was a short exchange but I was overcome by her timely kindness. I visit Five Guys almost every week since April of last year and order hot dogs with tons of toppings, hamburgers and the occasional milkshake. This is what I wrote about the Five Guys at McPherson Square about 12 weeks ago: --------------------------------------------- Five Guys is an excellent hamburger chain. It does not taste as good as Shake Shack, but it is much cheaper (about 30%-50% less money). It used to dominate the Washington market in burgers, while Shake Shack was very big in New York (where I come from originally). Eventually Five Guys moved into NYC, and Shake Shack became plentiful in DC. Both are very good places to eat, but, if you want the best burgers irrespective of price, you should go to Shake Shack, and however, if you want damn good burgers, and to save money on that meal, you should go to Five Guys. Also, Five Guys is the one with endless free peanuts, which you can have as a free side instead of french fries. That saves still more money. This is a nice, helpful Five Guys; a good place to go. --------------------------------------------- I just went to *this* Five Guys, here in Alexandria, and it was just as good. "Same great food, new high prices?" I have always loved Five Guys, and their food hasn't changed. But their prices have. Today I got a burger, large fries, and a soft drink and walked out having spent over $20! Maybe I just haven't been in for a while, maybe there's a "location premium" what with this location being in Old Town, but $20+ for a burger, fries, and a Coke seems excessive on it's face, even giving due credit for the quality of the burger. I used to go to Five Guys all the time, and thought of it as a place for a good ~$5 burger, where you could plop down a few more bucks if you wanted fries and/or a drink. But at over $20 for a complete meal, the value proposition falls completely flat for me. For the same spend I could get a big juicy half pound burger at many sit-down restaurants, with fries included, and a happy hour cocktail on top of that, and still have enough left over for a tip... WOW. This place is a MESS operationally. Third time in recent weeks they got my Door Dash order wrong -- sent a cheeseburger bowl and not a wrap, forgot the fries (although I was charged for them). I love five guys so much it's my favorite! I just wish they would have some more diet friendly options like dairy free milkshakes or gluten free buns. I ordered food through the app last Friday. Two burgers, an order of fries, and a shake to carry out. I understand that the fries are not prepared until you arrive at the restaurant so that they are crispy. The problem was that when I got back to eat them we realized they were uncooked. It's incredibly frustrating to wait 15 minutes for uncooked oil drenched fries. Oh and in the mean time the burger gets soggier and soggier. We tried to bake them in the oven to salvage them and it was nowhere near as good. I may come back but definitely will not be ordering fries. The shake was pretty good though. read more

In the meantime, two adults, each with a stroller, walked in behind me and stood there waiting. As he was finishing up the order for the phantom customer, the store gets a phone call. Speaking very softly, he started inputting a new order that wasn't for anyone standing there. Ignored, standing no more than a foot away from the dude, and him taking a phone order in front of customers who've been standing in front of him for five minutes? I've been going to one of the original Five Guys in Alexandria, VA for at least 15 years. I order a distinctive burger, and have always received excellent service and a great burger (and fries). I'd like to relate my first visit to this new Five Guy location on King Street. I walked into their King Street location about a week after they opened. Immediately upon entering, one of their employees who was on break and eating his own meal jumped up from his table, approached me, and welcomed me. He escorted me to the ordering place and introduced me as a long-time customer. I felt special -- thank you. If you visit this, or another, Five Guys, I can't predict the quality of service or the food you'll receive. However, in my 15+ years of experience with this Five Guys (and its former location on Fayette St), I can confidently say they appreciate their customers and will do everything they can to serve you a high-quality meal. read more

Terrible experience at store pick up. When I received my meal ( 3 burgers and a shake) of almost $40 I was expecting my money's worth. The burger was wet and the milkshake was watery. I called and waited on the line for 5 minutes to speak with a manager and a team member told me the manager is unavailable. They do not want to prepare a new one for me.
