Came here for breakfast and after this experience I'll be back! It gets the 5 star rating (as good as it gets) for breakfast, in Bonsall. Yeah, I know, where else in Bonsall can you find breakfast? I don't think there is anywhere. I would still give it the 4 star rating (I'm a fan) for the food and service I (we) received, even if I had another place in Bonsall to compare it to; or in general comparison to the many other places I have eaten breakfast. This restaurant was quite nice and very clean. As a matter of fact an employee was in the process of mopping down the outside walkway leading into the place at the top parking lot at 8am. The interior looks like an inviting place to dine whether breakfast, lunch or dinner. The waitress we had was friendly enough, but not overbearing. She timed it perfectly when it came to ordering our drinks, delivering out drinks, taking our food orders and checking in on us to inquire if we wanted refills. Oh, yes, the food orders came out in a timely manner and the food was hot upon arrival. I ordered two eggs, sausage, hash browns and toast. All the items were cooked perfectly. I like pointing this out, because I was happy the eggs were not over / under cooked, the sausage patties were browned and not dry, the hash browns were browned and perfect on the inside. My compliments to the chef / cook! The value of the plate, based upon that and the quantity of food provided was spot on. I would not hesitate to have breakfast here again and may one day venture here to try a lunch or dinner. read more

This cafe used to be great when we moved here a little over two years ago. The customer service is not the same. Came in to have lunch a couple months ago and instead of the young woman at the desk seating us, she was on what sounded like a personal call and didn't acknowledge us. So, we seated ourselves. Three times in a row within the last three months, I ordered online. Immediately after each order, I would receive a text (see attachment). However, once I called to check on my order and I was told they didn't complete it (1-hr later). The next two orders, I would call in because I never would receive a text of order being completed or not. The quality of food isn't the same. We have ordered the Hawaiian salads and it's not great. The salad isn't mixed well. All the pine nuts, avocado, mango, tomatoes are all on the bottom and the lettuce placed on the top. If we order online, we pay with our debit card. However, I visited there to pickup an order and the girl at the front insisted for me to pay. Not to mention, she was rude. We usually bring our visitors to Z's for lunch or dinner. We've spent allot of money there and looks like we're gonna find a new place to go to. read more

My wife and I went on memorial day weekend and we really enjoyed it. As it was a holiday weekend there was a bit of a wait and as it turned out it was worthwhile. Their menu is extensive and they deliver on their quality. There is always a wait and it's totally worth it. The service, the food, the ambiance... try it out, you won't be sorry. We ate here as an impromptu celebration of my Dad's 70th birthday. I called to see if I could make a reservation, but was told they don't do that. While I understand if you have a first come first serve policy I feel like certain occasions warrant an exception like a 70th birthday. We chose Z Cafe because it had a wide variety of options that would please everyone from burgers all the way to sushi. We got sushi, chicken and waffles, kalua pork, and a prime rib dip and everything was deeeelish. The only food negative was that the bread on the prime rib dip was very soggy and promptly disintegrated. The interior was nice and lively (kind of loud) and the staff was very kind and attentive. There were a few things that threw me off a bit. The entrance is on an upper level and the view to the right is their dumpster/trash area. It was very gross and unkept. I would either relocate this or keep it much tidier as it is not a great first impression before you eat somewhere. Inside it was a bit too warm and there were lots of flies. Also, a bit of a turn off when you are eating. Overall, good eats, good variety, and kind folks. read more

I have lived in the area for 4 plus years,we usually ordered burgers or fish n chips for pick up dinning. My daughter and I went for breakfast and I ordered the corn beef hash , eggs, hashbrowns and toast. She had a omelet, hashbrowns and side of pancakes which she shared with my grandson. Everything was fresh, well cooked, hot and delicious! Service was great and the staff was friendly. Very nice inside, clean and welcoming. I moved out of state and was visiting family and my daughter recommended eating here. This would have been my go to place for good eats if I had known sooner! I highly recommend. read more

Shows up as a coffee shop on google & apple maps however, Z Café is not a coffee shop which i was totally okay with since they had a bar with an espresso machine. The gentleman who was in the downstairs lobby was super nice and directed me towards the bar. The coffee was unfortunately subpar:( I got a hot white mocha for $4.79 (+tip) and it was not worth it... the coffee tasted like drip with milk and sugar/syrup, not at all like a latte. The only reason this review is 2 stars and not just 1 is because the gentleman that greeted me and directed me to the bar was very genuine and put a smile on my face. read more

This is a favorite spot for locals to Fallbrook and Bonsall. Here's why I love it: 1. The prices are reasonable 2. The portions are generous (kids can split meals easily) 3. The food quality is excellent 4. The variety of Asian/Hawaiian/American is right up my alley 5. The breakfasts are all delicious 6. The staff is friendly and remembers regular guests 7. The music is great It's a family favorite destination. If you notice, many of the low reviews have to do with wait times. Usually that's not an issue, but if you can boast the list I've made above, it's impossible to also not be popular. Had dinner here for my sister's birthday. "Cafe" doesn't really do it justice; it's a decent restaurant, which is nice in this rural area. It was crowded when we arrived, but it only took about 20 minutes for a seat. The menu is fairly simple, but they do have a bunch of different fancy burgers, some sushi, sandwiches, and some entrees. I had the prime rib dip with onion rings; my sister the tuna salad, my wife the sushi. It took a while to arrive, but everything was good. Prices are very reasonable, and they have local beers on tap as well as in bottles. Next time we'll sit out on the patio! read more

I'll start with the positive, great food at great prices. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu here. Now for the bad, I've been coming here as a regular for several years, the services has truly gone downhill. Unfortunately I won't be coming back. Between extreme wait times whether for dine in or take out, or food orders being incomplete, you get nothing but an apology and the same service over and over. Z's is the go-to for so many locals in Bonsall/Fallbrook. This establishment has been here for a while and they now offer another selection of choice dishes at their new location downstairs in the same shopping center. Z's Cafe is good for any and all occasions. Their breakfast menu is not fair to any other restaurants because how can they compete ? I chose to go here with my family for my birthday for the past 2 years. Make sure to try something new to you because chances are you will love it even if you have never heard of or tried the dish. Overall the food is good! There is some inconsistency in some of the appetizers- sometimes the fried pickles are little sticks, sometime they're huge chunks. I often get the sriracha teriyaki edemame and sometimes it's tossed in the sauce, sometimes it's just dropped on top. Cute indoor and outdoor areas. read more

Always great food and wonderful service. Dishes are good portions at very reasonable prices. Happy hour prices from 3-6 as well as sushi bar from 3-close. Hawaiian plates are awesome. Hand Rolls during happy hour are great and 2 for $5. Street tacos are delicious and 4 for $5. Recently had a blackened salmon salad with beets and goat cheese. Absolutely amazing! My wife and I stopped here on our way San Luis Rey hospital to pick up our horse. When the waitress took our order , my wife asked for the Carne Asada plate and even pointed at it on the menu. The young waitress did not write our order down , she relied on her memory. So , ofcourse , she got one of the orders wrong because she didn't WRITE IT DOWN ! I sat there and ate while my wife sat there for 10 more minutes with no food because of the waitresses incompetence. Lame , just write the damn orders down , it's that simple. The waitress did not even apologize ! She actually had a bit of an attitude about it. My Huevos Rancheros was ok , the sauce they put on it was a little slimy and not very good. When my wife finally got her meal , it was just ok as well. At least the hostess was sweet. I don't think we'll be back. read more
