Rudy is meticulous in his approach to plants--this is exactly what we were looking for when we noticed our heirloom camellias and newly planted olives needed trimming. Watching him address every branch one at a time, snipping with small tools (rather than hacking away at the whole thing with a hedge trimmer) was like watching a master at work. This is the level of detail our trees deserved, and Rudy's expertise and labor was thus fairly compensated. Be very cautious when dealing with Rudy. He says one thing, then has people move things around based on that, only for it to turn out completely different. His communication is unreliable, and you can't trust what he says at face value. This review is long overdue (and I was a bit intimidated to write it since this guy gives me the creeps). First yes, Rudy and his team did a good job on our tiny yard. But 1) they definitely overcharged me for a very tiny yard with no grass. They just needed to do a light cleanup and water the plants. 2) Rudy has no system of payment he would insist on cash and come by at random times and days unannounced trying to collect cash. He wouldn't be there with his team every week so he'd just come randomly. I'm happy to pay with a card or transfer (like every other gardening service does) but he kept saying something about needing to keep his income looking low to be able to apply for something. This was really shady. Also since he didn't have a set date of when to pay he was all over the place. I finally put my foot down and insisted on an invoice. That day he followed me in his truck slowly down the road (I was really creeped out since I couldn't even see who it was) and finally pulls up next to me with a napkin with an amount written on it for the 2 months due. 3) When coming for his cash payment Rudy would every time try to talk to me about his love life and keep pushing and asking me and if I had any available friends. Not just jokingly. Every time. Ummmm no. Just no. He also just gave a very weird vibe and would really make me feel uncomfortable. 4). He tried to start conversations with my boyfriend about his (Rudy's) sex life. They aren't buds. What the hell? Even my boyfriend was uncomfortable. I don't know what is wrong with this guy but ladies (and gents) I recommend you find a different gardener. Unless you aren't bothered by the above. read more

Z greens was absolutely awful. I cannot recommend them and Rudy, the proprietor was very strange and often non-sensical. He also had a bad attitude and worse, didn't do a good job. I cannot say one good thing about my experience with him or Z greens. read more

I had let my front and back yards go without trimming for about one year and they were in major need of gardening help. Based on other Yelp reviews, I contacted Z Greens. I spoke with Rudy and I could tell from our first conversation that he was very knowledgeable. He came out to see the project and we went over each and every plant/bush. It was apparent that Rudy loves plants and has a good connection with them. He came back later in the week and did an excellent job of trimming both the front and back yards. He also planted a few new shrubs and even a cactus full of spines! Some gardeners won't plant cactus but Rudy had no problem with it. Bark beetles had killed two big old pines in our yard. We were worried that removal would ruin all the lovely succulents and cactus growing beneath these trees. Rudy's team came in and took down the trees and not one of our other plants was even touched. They were respectful of our property, totally efficient and were gone by 2:30. Rudy is the best! My trees love him. He's trimmed several trees on our property. He is knowledgeable about tree health and their growth. The trees he has trimmed are growing beautifully, he's skilled at sculpting a tree. Previous guys trimmed my fruit trees badly and they were all bushy and wild. After his visit they all look like trees. He created a nice canopy with my Sycamore. Also, he's honest and loves what he does. Having him work on our garden has been a pleasure. I called Rudy last week after our tenants let us know our big oak tree in the front was hit by a garbage truck and a branch was dangerously hanging, ready to fall on someone or something. Rudy was so friendly, he went out there within a few hours to check on the tree, and the rest of the yard/trees. He called me back right away, went out there 3 days later and took care of everything! Rudy is the best! He came highly recommended and lived up to the recommendation. I put off trimming our trees because I was afraid of a butcher job, but Rudy came in and did a beautiful and skillful job. He didn't do anymore than was necessary and was super knowledgeable about when to cut back all the different trees, shrugs, vines, etc. He even turned down work because he said it wasn't the right time of year. He was just finishing a job for that day and stopped by at 6:00. He got his chainsaw out and cleaned up the branch mess in the neighbor's yard. Rudy's services are unique. His knowledge of all things green (and pretty) are expectational. He has designed and maintained our landscape like a beautiful serine park and he is always one step ahead of the greens. Knowing when they need extra support, whether it be fertilizer or more or less water. We actually have not run into some in this area with the wealth and "know how" he has. He also loves his work so you can be sure he'll give it his all. Our only down side is that we can't accommodate all his great ideas all at once, which he has many! So we take it one step at a time.
