Z place is seriously so nice. Laura did such a good job on my massage, I think she's the first person to go light enough to not cause pain in my sore spots but still actually work some tension out. And Ellie gave a GREAT facial. The towel warmer for my clothes was such a nice touch and I've never seen that before. And idk what the little nubby things she used on my face/scalp were but I'd literally pay for a 90 min session of just those. The rest of the facial was good too, but those things like elevated it to possibly my favorite facial ever. read more

I love the stylist that I go to at Z Place. She does a great job and is very personable. But I'm just about ready to find a new salon just because the front desk is atrociously managed. They answer the phone by placing the caller on hold without a word. *IF* you can get them to pick up after being on hold then they will answer one question such as "Does XXX have any openings for a trim in two weeks?", they will answer "No" and promptly hang-up so that you cannot ask about the following week or month. Often, the phone just rings and rings. This behavior has gotten worse over the past year. I'm not sure if it is an employee issue or a management issue. read more

Did you know Z Place is NOT an Aveda salon? Even though it's says Aveda every where inside and outside the salon, on their pamphlets and web site, the first to pop up when you Google Aveda??? Employees boast about being Aveda and use all Aveda products but nope NOT Aveda. When we made our appointments we gave them our Aveda gift certificate number and were told all was good but after having our services and ready to check out, also wanting to purchase the Aveda products they sell we were told quite rudely in a condescending Unprofessional way like we should have known attitude that they were NOT an actual Aveda salon and could not use our 200.00 Aveda gift certificate. Could you have told us that when we made our appointment?? What a horrible experience, horrible misrepresentation. My daughter in law was in tears. I was in town from seattle for work and my friend recommended this salon for a well over due hair cut. They got me in same day (I was shocked) and paired me with the most amazing stylist Justine. Coming from Seattle where a $39 dollar hair cut is unheard of I was impressed with the entire place. I would def wait for my next business trip out here to have Justine cut my hair again. I found out that Justine is also form seattle and worked at Gary Manuel Salon in DT Seattle where I bet her cuts were over $100. Worth every penny. read more

I have never given a bad review but this place deserves a zero too bad I can't give that. I was recommended this place by a friend of a friend. Anyway, first time they did my hair ok nothing great ok so I was thinking it's just going to get better from this point on but no it didn't. I had some issues with their products as well which made my scalp a bit itchy and I told her and her response was oh it has to be the lavender. Anyway, I went to the salon and the hair stylist told me that she didn't like my brown roots and maybe I should try a more even color. I told her I usually like different tones in my hair but I am trusting you as you are the professional. She came back and plastered Aveda bleach on my hair all the way to the scalp. I started to feel hot, tingling and pain feeling I told her and she said it was natural to feel a bit uncomfortable. She left me alone for 5-7 minutes and I thought I was going to die. I turned bright red all over my face and body and I started to get swollen and puffing up like a hot balloon. Finally she came back and I told her I am having an allergic reaction to the bleach. Let's see I am a dentist which means I have medical training and she was still questioning my reasoning. Anyway I ended up in the hospital bc of this what doc said? Allergic reaction and asked why wasn't strand test performed? I asked myself the same exact question. He gave me medication. Then I started to search for more information regarding these products. More reasons why strand test should be performed if something new is used. My hair looked dried, dead, bright yellow like a canary and I was sad. They fixed my hair the best they could due to the damage caused by the bleach. I called the manager at the Z and told her how I felt. No one there acted with care or concerned. I guess you have to take people to court so they care about the damage and pain that people can suffer due to their unprofessional treatment. I am a dentist I can't never imagine treating a person like they treated me. It was sad. My husband also a dentist had to leave work to take me to the hospital and he was shocked how the salon handled the entire situation. I don't recommend this place to nobody. It's dangerous and remember it only takes one time for a person to have an allergic reaction and die. Please please if you still go to this place be careful in particular to new products. It's always nervewracking to find someone new to do your hair. After a move to a new state, my hair got to the point where it needed a cut. I was apprehensive, but opted to make an appointment here due to the good yelp reviews and the fact that it was an Aveda salon. The good: They got me in quickly. They offer a beverage as soon as you get in. The prices are pretty reasonable considering it's a more upscale salon. My stylist was very nice and friendly. The bad: I explained to my stylist that I was growing out my pixie cut and wanted to maintain as much length as possible. I also very specifically said that I would rather have it take 3x as long to grow my hair out and have it look good along the way. I suggested that I needed shaping and texturizing and that generally my stylists use thinning shears to remove some bulk, as I have very thick hair. Fast forward to the end of the haircut and my head looks nearly identical. She never once picked up thinning shears, there's hardly any hair on the floor, and when she asks me what product I use, she seems to completely unfamiliar with one of the products I mention, despite it being an Aveda product. Internally, I'm realizing that this is just a bad experience. I don't like confrontation, and I especially hate situations like this, where if I complain about paying for a haircut in which very few hairs were actually cut, it's likely that their attempts at fixing it will swing in the opposite direction and there will be too much hair cut. As I'm weighing my options, she finishes "styling" my hair, and apparently when I said I use a fiber putty for texture, she's misunderstood and thought that I said volume, not texture. My hair is poofed up and piled on top of my head and the entire situation is just ridiculous. I decide not to make a fuss, because it's tricky to say "I hate this, but I want someone else to fix it." Besides- since she cut off next to no hair, it's not like she did a whole lot of long term damage. I got in the car and redid the styling. I went home and poked at my head with thinning shears and had my boyfriend clean up the back of my neck with clippers. It's fine. I'm out some cash, but at least there's one less salon to consider when making my next appointment. read more

I had a foil and cut done by Katie. All I can say is WOW!!! I am overwhelmed with relief knowing that I have finally, after a year and a half and several disappointments, found a salon worth returning to. My whole experience was extremely relaxing. I left feeling more beautiful than I have in a very long time. I had to wait two weeks for an appointment, but it was well worth the wait. The nice receptionist clearly explained their new location when I called to schedule an appointment. It was NOT difficult to find. It's right next to Bob's Burgers and Brew, near Southridge HS, right next to Hapo CU. This new location is gorgeous, from the thoughtful decor to the lovely view of Kennewick. Katie was so nice! She made polite conversation and it felt like she genuinely cared about me. We discussed the concerns I had about my hair color and cut (I hated both, see my review on HairMaster's) and the extensive damage I had from my last coloring. I had bought clip in hair extensions to recover some of the length for my upcoming wedding, so I brought them in so she could match the color. She matched it perfectly. As my hair was processing, I received a free hand massage from Megan an Esthetician who is newer to the salon and is trying to build her clientele. She was very relaxing and nice. I'm considering returning for a facial with her. After Katie shampooed the chemicals out of my hair (and gave me the best scalp massage ever), we discussed how I wanted my hair to be cut. She was VERY careful to make sure everything was even and that my bangs were the desired length. Then, she styled my hair. We decided to try out the hairstyle I wanted for my wedding (including the clip-in extensions). She taught me how to curl and back-comb my hair properly to give my fine hair volume. I was amazed with how thick my hair looked. She patiently clipped in my hair extensions and figured out how to do my low, sideswept, ponytail with loose, luscious curls. If I were getting married in the Tri Cities, I would LOVE for her to do my hair for my wedding, but since I'm getting married in Spokane that wont happen. The full foil and hair cut I got was more reasonably priced than Salon Monroe and the experience and end-product were much nicer. I can't tell you enough how careful, knowledgeable, sweet, and talented this girl is! Did I mention she works on Sundays??? How nice for us working folks! Overall, this salon is beautiful! Being in here was the most relaxing thing ever! It made me want to have every service they offer. Their hair care products are the best I've ever used as well. The moisture remedy shampoo and conditioner are wonderful (very expensive though). They also have this blue malva stuff that is great for blondes who notice their color becoming a little brassy-- amazing. It takes away the brassiness so you have a "whiter" blonde. Can you tell how much I love this place!!!!? P.S. There IS seating right next to the receptionist's desk at the little bar area AND there is a bench near the makeup that kind of moves around as their displays vary. I had been a client here for several years and always got the same hair color application. Howver this last time Kelsea did my hair she left the color on 20 min longer than normal and my scalp was irritated so I went to find her. She said my scalp was fine and finished my hair. I went home and washed it out and handfuls of hair started coming out. I made an appointment with the dermatologist who told me my scalp was inflamed and blistered and gave me prescriptions to use. I notified the salon and the owner Vonda told me she would not give me a refund. I lost 70% of my hair, and I posted a pic of just some of it. I kept it in case I needed to get a wig made. I have a short high maintenance hair cut and color. I'm very picky with who cuts my hair, and coming from Seattle, I was nervous about finding a new stylist. Enter the Aveda salon, Z Place. Erin is my stylist. She does an amazing job with cut & color! And she tells you honestly what will work with you face shape & structure. Erin has been doing my hair now for nearly 2 years, and I'm constantly getting compliments on the cut and color. There are a few crabby patties in there, but for the most part, very friendly. Excellent new building in S. Kennewick across the street from Bob's Burgers and adjacent to the new Hapo Credit Uniton. The staff are proffessional but I would not call it friendly or overly inviting. They are clear in their instructions and present a proffessional tone. You feel a little like they "have to" and that time goes into reminding them that customers are important instead of that attitude naturally presented. So, you feel a bit processed. Reasonably priced for services and Women seem to enjoy it. Not very helpful in finding the new building which is currently not any GPS or mapping services. They assume that you must know where they are. She used both strip wax and hard wax, and I'm pretty sure it took her far fewer strips than any other esthetician I've been to. I recieved a spa day package as a gift. My fiancee set up the time and day for me as well as provided card information and told whoever he spoke to he wanted to pay in advance. He confirmed the time I should arrive and was told that if I came early I could enjoy the spa. Since it was a surprise birthday gift I didn't plan to take the day off work and was just gonna be there at my appointment time. I was running 10 minutes late, I tried to call and let them know but no one answered. When I arrived I waited in the lobby (after informing the receptionist I was late and would COMPLETELY understand if I needed to reschedule) for over 10 minutes to have a harried woman come out and chastise me for being late, bark instructions at me, and give me a super quick run down on the package I was recieving as she hustled me into a locker room. I misunderstood the instructions she was giving me as it was super rushed and I was awkwardly waiting for her to come back for a solid 15 minutes before I went looking for her. She chastised me for not following directions, once again mentioned how my being late had completely ruined the whole schedule and all my services were going to be rushed. I had my rushed halfassed facial and then was booted off to a dim waiting room with a "someone will come get you" another 20 minutes roll by and a masseuse comes to get me. The massage was absolutely excellent, she did WONDERFUL and did not rush me at all. After the massage was over I was told I could get dressed again and someone would come get me for a pedicure. So I change and wait another 20 minutes or so, but the massage has me all zen and relaxed so whatever I'm cool chillin. A lady comes to retrieve me for the worst pedicure I have ever had in my life. I think she spent a total of 15 minutes actually doing anything with my calves and feet. I was in a loud cramped saloon that completely destroyed my relaxed state and made me mega disoriented. The next day I realized the polish only covered about 70% of my nails and was already chipped. I was delivered a 'spa snack' which consisted of some fruit dripping in syrup with cheap chocolate and wilted mint, a glob of soft cheese, two stale slices of bread, and a couple olives. When that awkward nightmare was over I go check out the store and find a couple mega over priced things sorta worth buying and then go to check out the lady informs me I owe $282.64. Soooo after that whole shitshow they didn't even have the "this is a surprise gift, I want to pay right now" thing figured out. I asked my fiancee and he said he 100% for sure specified that he was paying and remembers giving them his card info and TELLING her he wants to pay right then as it was a gift. He also specifically remembered asking if I needed to arrive early and they said only if I wanted to hang out in the spa. While I was there I witnessed others getting tours of the facility and given drinks as the whole process was explained to them. I don't know if my crap treatment was because I was late or if it was because this package was supposed to be purchased as a gift... I offered to reschedule. With all the time the left me waiting I really feel like they could have gotten the services completed 100% without throwing them off schedule. I have had my hair cut and colored, a massage and a wax done at this spa and through it all with the atmosphere I thought I was in an exotic location at a resort much better than the Four Seasons. Even better the price was completely reasonable. I would certainly recommend that my friends and even my best business contacts go to enjoy the experience and the service. I'm actually quite surprised at the couple of reviews with negative words... wondering if they were just personally having a bad day or if in fact nothing measures up. Heather cut my hair about a week ago and completely messed it up. Rushed too much. Did she just start cutting hair?? Oddly enough I was recommended by a friend while I was in town. I didn't want to say anything in person to her because she appeared to have other things going on. I could be wrong but her Customer service was not there and hardly any communication of what I was wanting. Not too sure what was going on but I will never be coming back to this place whenever I'm traveling and will never recommend any friends or family here. For Christmas, I purchased the Day Spa package for my significant other. Just before New Years, she called to attempt to schedule her Day. The young lady who attempted to assist her informed my significant other that she would have break up the package ala-carte and come in on different days for each of the parts. Finally, the appointment was made for a day a month later. The date and time were established. Fast forward to a couple of days before the appointment. Someone texted my significant other to confirm the appointment, only the starting time in the computer was now 30 minutes later. My significant other called and pointed out the discrepancy only to be told "No, the appointment is at the time that we texted you". During the phone call, my significant other specifically requested a female massage therapist. When she arrived, she was greeted by a male therapist. The manager did some shuffling and eventually a female therapist was found. This review has become more about management than my stylist at this point. My stylist was attentive and courteous minus the haircut provided. I was in search of a walk in appt. I called and booked and showed up within a half hour. I won't name the stylist who cut my hair, no one deserves to be put on the spot. I wanted my hair cut in a v and when it was completely blunted across i called to complain after a week thinking the grow out might change a little after a healthy cut. There is no shape to the hair cut. I asked for a moisturizing treatment and that cost me 26 for a total of 63. My layers are 1/4 apart and look like she took her scissors vertically and cut upwards into the hair line to make it choppy. I appreciated the stylists demeanor and her attentiveness and conversation. I understand there can be confusion between explanations and wish there were diagrams of how to explain what you want. When you ask for a v it shouldnt be a straight line across. She asked how dramatic i wanted my V .... a v cut is dramatic so i told her i can always go more dramatic later. A straight line isn't dramatic. I called to complain explaining I want to remain anonymous until it came time to fix everything. The receptionist immediately leaned over to their coworker to help with the complaint and it ended up being my stylist. Now there is no anonymity and the receptionist told me the stylist would like to the opportunity to fix my hair cut. I was absolutely livid. Not only does the stylist feel put on the spot but i didn't get the anonymity i requested when i wanted to speak to a manager. I told the receptionist "I don't want to sit with the same stylist and receive the same oppprtunity to receive a shitty haircut" When the manager called back she said well didnt they explain your stylist was a "NEW TALENT" i said no and if they did what the heck does that mean to me ? I don't follow your salons lingo because I'm a walk in appt. I came to an aveda salon because i trust the brand. I got a beauty school rookie. The manager LAURIE told me that that's what they do. They use an apprentice program via aveda. She explained everyone has to start somewhere and she would talk to the owner however they don't give refunds. I was so turned off at this point I said fuck it I don't need you to fix my hair nor do i need a refund ...... HERES YOUR BAD REVIEW. I won't ever come back and won't encourage anyone to either. I have my facials done by Brooke. It's the best facial ever. She starts out by asking if you have any concerns with your skin and how you are feeling. She mixes custom oil's for your face. I Have been a frequent Z place client for almost 7 years and would always highly recommend people for my stylist Kayla. However recently I feel that she has either been overbooked or gotten lazy because the quality of her color has significantly declined. Her highlights used to be well blended but have become more chunky and tacky as time goes on. I was so disappointed in my last color job and her bad attitude that I plan to have it fixed by another salon in a few weeks. Best of luck to the rest of her clients! I had a great experience here and was blown away by the final price of my haircut. I thought the price was fairly low compared to the Seattle area for an Aveda salon so it was definitely a good surprise. Even still, Justine was lovely and I felt like a new person when I left. I couldn't stop touching my hair. I haven't really had a history of being loyal to one salon but I am definitely making sure i come back to Justine in the future. The layout and design of the salon is very pretty and modern. The reception staff were great too, even calling me back to make sure both my consult and wedding hair appointment was on the books. Justine did my hair for the first time and she did a great job except she did not add a toner and my hair looks like it has a yellow tint. I spent 145.00 for a yellow tint. Normally SaraJon did my hair and always added a toner but she left ZPlace and the staff said she didn't leave the toner in her notes, ( I paid 125.00 and got a toner added with SaraJon). I called the next day, complained about the yellow tint in my hair and the front desk employee told me she would leave a note for the manager to call me Monday for a complimentary toner, seeing that I had already paid for it and just hadn't received the service. Around 1 pm I called on Monday and talked to the manager. She said she hadnt received the note and the decision for my toner was not hers it was another persons. After waiting on the phone with the manager, she seemed confused, I just hung up. I can't see doing business with a company that appears to have fallen by the way side. She has my name and number on file. You should not lose a customer's business because you cannot provide good customer service. read more
