I have been going to Shan since I first moved here in 2014 when she was at Kaleidoscope, and I've never been disappointed. She not only provides truly excellent cuts, she does so for a price I can afford on my teacher salary. Shan is great about giving me cuts based on photos I bring in. She asks questions and makes sure everything is the way you want it before finishing. This year, I dove into coloring my hair for the first time, dying it pink for the summer. After talking through the color I wanted, Shan convinced me to go much darker at first to make sure that I'd have a color that lasted the season. When I went back in mid-August, the color was still fantastic, and I liked all the shades in between. I decided to go platinum rather than trying to return to blonde, and I've been back twice to renew my color since. When I went this week and asked about some temporary color, Shan recommended (and sold me) a lavender shampoo to add some color for the holidays--again, enabling me to have some fun during my free time with the ability to look professional again in a couple of weeks. Sensations Salon itself is super low key and easy to find. I've never had cuts from anyone but Shan, but everyone else seems super friendly, and I rarely have to wait too long for an appointment. Parking can be intimidating, but I'm almost always able to find a space right out front on Bardstown. I feel so fortunate to have found a great stylist who is also just a lovely, interesting, down to earth human. She's helped make this city home for me. read more

Shan (Sanders) Kokas has been my hair stylist for nearly 9 years. A few months ago she moved from Kaleidoscope to Sensations. With her moving salons, it was a no brainier to follow! Things about Shan: -she's very professional. If you've made an appointment she will always be on time -she remembers things about you (hair color, length, style preferences). If you want special effects or want to change it up, no problem. She keeps a journal with notes so she can always recreate that cut that you loved! (But she's so good at knowing what I love, she doesn't even need to look back at those notes anymore). I sit in her chair and she does her thing! -she cares about you as a person -- she'll remember personal things about you and will ask if that thing at work or in life is getting better. Going to Shan is like affordable HairApy -- (a great cut and someone to listen) -she's flexible. Shan is willing to come in earlier than normal to fit you in if that works best for your life. Things about the Sensations Salon: -it's perfectly located in the Highlands 1 block from Bardstown and Eastern (across from Mark's Feed Store) -plenty of easy parking behind the salon -the interior and decor is clean, "highlands classy chic". It's upscale-ish, but not snoody -they offer tea, water, coffee for their clients -in addition to hair, they offer massage, tanning and mani/pedi's I was super impressed with the space and wouldn't trust anyone but Shan to do my hair! read more

This place, as far as salons go, is fantastic. Yesterday was my first visit and I saw April. She does the facials, peels, waxing, etc. I had an eye treatment done and I never felt better when I left. I can't wait to go back and get a massage (which I'll be scheduling this week). The atmosphere was at a normal tone and fun. Everyone smiling and happy to be there. Several hair cuts were going on at the same time. I was escorted to a room with mood music playing, it was dark and calming. This salon does hair, massages, facials, peels, waxing, etc. You owe it to yourself to give them a try. You won't be disappointed. I've been looking for a change and found Shan at Sensations through Yelp. I had my eyes on a bright bold red and based on the reviews and pictures I thought that she would be just the stylist to do it. Turns out I was right. She really listened to my concerns and answered my questions and took care to be sure that I was getting something that I would be happy with. The whole process (Double process because we had to bleach my hair before doing the red) was actually very quick, only about two hours which I thought was great and Shan was very friendly and nice to chat with. She also recommended that I let Helen wax and shape my eyebrows (instead of doing them herself, since Helen had time) and she was fantastic as well. She spent lots of time making sure they were even and well shaped and that I was pleased with them. I was very happy overall with the whole salon and with both of these ladies. Samantha is amazing!!! My last hair stylist stopped doing hair, and I had let my hair grow till I found someone new who understood thick hair and how to cut it. Samantha had done my hair and makeup for a photo shoot previously, and I liked what she had done. She and I had talked about how thick my hair was and how that meant a different cut, and she made me feel totally at ease, so I took a risk and made an appointment for her to cut it. I'm growing out a pixie (for over a year) and every haircut is tricky - keep the length but add shape and health. Julie listened carefully and gave me a cut that managed to balance all three. I was traveling through Louisville solo and I decided last minute to try and get a massage. I called shortly after the business opened, had to leave a message, and within minutes they called me back to say they could get me in for an appointment at my desired time! Once I arrived at Sensations I was greeted by Missy (my massage therapist and the owner of the business). Everyone in the salon was kind and welcoming as we walked through to the back of the salon to get to the massage room. The room was surprisingly quiet considering there is a full service salon on the other side of the door! I never heard anything that distracted from my massage. Missy does her massage through intuition, she asked all the right questions but said she will "feel" the spots to work on. I want to be clear, it was a WONDERFUL massage, but there are a few caveats... Her style of massage is VERY relaxing but not very deep. One of my biggest pet peeves while getting a massage is when the therapist leaves me for a long time to get settled on the table... It only takes seconds for me to get ready to get on the table, I hate it when they leave you for many minutes before coming in to start the massage. Also on the point of time, my massage was scheduled to start at 12:15 and end at 1:45 being a 90 minute massage. When she left the room after the massage she said I should just relax awhile. I did for a few minutes, but out of respect as there might have been another client coming in, I got up. I checked my phone and it was 1:35! So I did feel a little ripped off in that regard. I still want to encourage anyone who is interested in a fabulous RELAXING Swedish massage to go see Missy. I also should mention the linens were clean and soft AND the oil or lotion she used was so nice as it wasn't greasy at all. After my massage I asked if anyone could trim my hair, and Missy said she could. She just livened it up a bit, trimming the split ends only and then offered to French braid my hair as I had come into Sensations with a braid off to the side. When she braided it she pulled it off to the side also so it fit my style. I really appreciated that! After my impromptu haircut I got my eyelashes tinted and eyebrows waxed by Helen. Helen is a wonderful esthetician, so friendly and attentive to detail. I've had my eyelashes tinted many times and often they put too much product in and my eyes burn, this was not the case here! No burning eyes, just beautiful results! I recommend this business to anyone in the Louisville area looking for quality and friendly service. The massage is so relaxing and the salon services are done with attention to detail and kindness in a welcoming environment. This hair salon was much better than I expected.. I actually didn't know what to expect because I went in to get my hair styled for a wedding. Samantha did a beautiful braid that came out just perfect I absolutely loved it. My mom also got her hair styled and it looked amazing. They worked pretty fast and had very fair prices. Great spot for a haircut, styling, and amazing conversation. I dare you to leave without laughing at least once. Shan is a super talented stylist as well as hair cutter, and her range is really wide. I had been to Sensations Salon & Spa years ago at its old location for a massage, and it was wonderful. After moving back to the area, I returned last week for a spray tan with Helen. She made me feel super comfortable, during what could be a very awkward process. The tan looked and felt great, and is still holding up a week later. After a long hard day of work I went to visit Helen for my first ever facial. She made me feel comfortable and relaxed in this cute soothing room with spa music and dim lighting. She was extremely knowledgable with the micro abrasion, vitamins and products she used on my face. It was nice to be pampered. I feel she went above and beyond with a hand and arm massage while the products were working magic on my face, she also tented my eyebrows. If I could this place gets NO STARS!! My manager and I have been wanting to get eyelash extensions for a while. We decided to go to Sensations. KRIS is the woman that does the eyelash services at the salon. We walk in, she seems excited and ready to go. I go first.. So while she's putting them on, she's telling me to be sure to not get them wet and don't rub my eyes, and so on. Makes sense. It takes her about 20 min. I didn't like them. I told her that and she said, just give them about 48 hours to dry then you'll be able to move them around with an eyebrow comb. She did my friend next, and she didn't like them. Told her the same thing. Then she said if they fall off anytime, call her and she'll fill them in for free. 50 bucks each. We leave, a bit unsure of how they look because we showed her pics and they looked nothing like them. After 2 days of no water near my eye & no touching, multiple lashes have fallen off! My friend's did the same thing! Was it old glue?? Who knows. I called KRIS that 2nd day and told her, she told me to call her back. She never picked up the phone again nor returned my texts/calls. She is UNPROFESSIONAL!!!! Needs more experience with eyelash extensions. I wouldn't recommend her at all. read more

I have to admit I don't always take the best care of my skin, but you would never know it after a visit. My face glows. Helen always takes the time to explain the products she's using on your face and why. She listens to your concerns and helps you learn the best way to manage them.
