First, I love a place where you can feel relaxed while enjoying a hearty meal. This restaurant was absolutely amazing and I have to shoutout the staff and owner for showing us hospitality and warmth. Now, I did remove 1 star because when our original waitress ended her shift, she informed us that someone else would be available to support. That support was hard to locate and we waited a little longer than we expected for basic services to help close out our meal. I would say that while the staff was friendly, maybe a little more attentiveness would help with the flow of service. And while that removes 1 star, this place is still 4 stars amazing! First, the rich spices and herbs made every bite of my dish, memorable. I ordered the creamiest shrimp and grits, topped with diced mushrooms, peppers, and a few sauces. Disclaimer: provided the size of the dish, the shrimps were a little small and few in quantity, but the flavor made every bite worth the journey. I mean, the grits were the BEST I've had in a long time and the shrimps were seasoned to perfection. We enjoyed some mimosas, a little too sugary, but nothing to complain about. Overall, I had such an enjoyable time and look forward to visiting again!

This the kind of place that resets your standards. Y'all treated me very well with this one. After eating here, I found myself judging every spot that followed like, "Mm... no. That's not how they did it at Zaca." The ambiance is a perfect reflection of Bed-Stuy-African/Afro-inspired art, warm colors, real character. It feels like your Auntie's dining room in the best way: intimate, cozy, and full of soul. Seating is snug (I can see it getting tight during peak hours), but when I went it was relaxed and inviting. There's even a little outdoor space if you want to eat with the city humming around you. Now let's talk about the hospitality because who says you can't get it in NY? Miss V-my waitress- was everything. Attentive and effortlessly on point. The food is made to order, which matters, because this is a conversation place. A linger a little, laugh a little, feel at home kind of spot for us. Welcoming, local, and full of personality. But that food??? Honey... hush. HOT!!!!! Fresh, flavorful, and cooked with intention. The kind of meal that has you quiet at the table for a second because you need to focus. Every bite made sense. They know what they're doing up in there!!! This place is a gem. Comfortable, soulful, and confidently good. I left full, happy, and slightly offended there isn't one of these in Texas. I'll absolutely be back. Wait for me Zaca!!

The service was excellent! I loved The Server's personality; she was very sweet and patient with me. The food was definitely worth the wait. As a kale lover, I really enjoyed my salad. Mac & cheese was also enjoyable. I highly recommend this place for a quick bite to eat.

Always a great time at Zaca. I love the French toast and shrimp + grits. Service is quick and personable (Vanessa is so sweet). They also have wifi if you need to get work done. I'm always looking for spiritual spots, too -- the ancestral decor and traditional masks make the space feel so homey. Also, Zaca's prices really can't be beat -- $12-$14 for great food. Shrimp + grits were $22.

Love supporting authentically black-owned restaurants. There was no doubt of the African ancestry because there were tapestries, sculptures & paintings on the ceilings and walls. You feel transported, but in a laid-back, not trying, homey type of way. The menu is pretty much all of your American favorites (French toast, sandwiches, salads & a few large plates). I was expecting some more African dishes as they had Burkina Faso flags throughout. The waitress was new and a bit shy, but we didn't mind as the manager walked her through everything & was still kind/gracious towards us. The place was pretty empty on a Wednesday (2 people came in late) & we almost passed by because it looks like a grab and go. Panini & salad run of the mill good & linguini with sweet sauce was a nice surprise. I'd return for a lowkey, no frills Subday brunch.

Zaca is a nice chill local spot. I stopped by to try the salmon burger. I had the turkey burger yesterday so I wanted to try something different today. I've yet to dine in, and usually get takeout... I was sad to see that they got a C rating, but looking from the takeout window into the kitchen, I could see why. The Zaca bakery next door is much more presentable.

Was in the area and stopped for a bite to eat. The location was bustling for a Sunday afternoon. I got the salmon bugger with fries and a side of mac and cheese. All items were delicious. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Service was pretty quick after ordering and the waitress was helpful. The inside had a chill vibe.

Loved the meal one of the best grit dishes I've had in Brooklyn. The seating is limited so seating may depend but if you can...go! A fantastic meal and always consistent!

When it was all said and done, I can say the food is okay, but the service and ambiance is what makes for a fun visit. I ordered a fried chicken with a waffle and it was fair. The chicken was moist and had a good fry, but the waffle was very sweet and possibly undercooked. The fruit it was served with was not fresh either. Sitting on a pillow and the bubbly yet pretty bartender was a nice touch. I also liked the eclectic music. Unfortunately none of it stayed down, so as a result I am knocking the rating a little. The French-American cuisine is apparent here, but feels so out of character for the neighborhood. While fun, I likely will not return.

Ate here for dinner on a semi-whim, and I really enjoyed it! They had a wide variety of dishes / paninis / mains / sides all fairly reasonably priced It was a peaceful, warm environment. I got the Atlantic salmon with beets and mash potatoes as the sides, and it tasted very fresh, nicely seasoned etc. also shared a Cobb salad, which ended up being a very generous portion with the perfect amount of dressing and produce crispness. I hate a soggy salad. And dressing can be very repulsive to me. But this was very flavorful, inoffensive salad, which I am always on the look for. The service was great, very attentive, very kind. Want to come back!

Nice place. Decent food, really kind people. I'd love to come back and try the French toast because it looks amazing.

We got there a few mins after they open stood outside maybe 5 mins or so to give them time to set up but when we went in they already had a few people in there so didn't feel bad. The place is small but no issues with that I like cozy ambiance styles. Food was really good on my end and my brother got the avocado toast with pork sausage on side look really tasty I got the French toast that had a different take on them with the bread I loved!! For a simple 3 items(Caramelized apples, bananas and blueberries)with no fluff or wild amounts of sugar it was a 10/10.My side order of eggs (overease) was really good as well did perfectly tasted. Also loved my organic breakfast blend tea, love that they carry Atlantic salmon not farm raised, love that they have real Honey and Maple syrup can't major foodie points for that. so

French Toast and The Works Bagel

Great food, cool and fun ambiance, lowkey and small dining spot. Great for brunch. Service was amazing, each time I've come there's been only one server but she's incredible. Seems to get crowded on the weekend. Would definitely recommend checking out

TL;DR version- Some high highs and some very low lows. Hot Figs was a fun app. By a mile, the soups…read morewere the favorites, so I would recommend the Pepián or Caldo Tlalpeño Rojo. Nice happy hour and a large chocolate drink selection I was at this unique Guatemalan (ish) restaurant a while back with one of my groups. I said "ish" because the menu has dishes from all over, ranging from sandwiches to BBQ ribs to Guatemalan and Mexican soups. It's out there, and even though not everything works that well, it's fun, and if you can't find something you want to order here, you probably shouldn't go out to restaurants. There was also live jazz music that night, which was loud but nice to listen to. Since it was happy hour, a bunch of us got drinks. I went with a maracuya margarita, which was decent; someone else had a jalapeño margarita, someone had a beer, and someone had a mojito. There were a few nice hot sauces on the table, with the red one reminding me of salsa macha as it had a smoky kick and a spicier green sauce reminiscent of ají verde. They gave us some complimentary blue corn chips and a very mild black bean dip, which was tasty enough and hard to complain about, as it was free. From the appetizers, we got the Hot Figs for $15.95, consisting of honey goat cheese, corn tortilla chips, and plum + pumpkin seeds. This was a unique and fun blend and reminded me more of something you would find in a wine bar. The mix of sweet and salty, with a bit of crunch from the seeds, was nice. This was good, and I would recommend it for a table rather than for a solo diner. There was also The Zingy Salad for $21.95, featuring zucchini spirals, yuzu, tomato, onion, cilantro, pumpkin seeds, and a jalapeño infusion. $18.95. The salad was fine with a bit of crunch and a mild spiciness. It was fine, though a bit wet, for lack of a better word. The best dishes of the night were the soups, which each had its own distinct flavor profile. My sight presence went to the Pepián for $21.95, consisting of chicken, pumpkin/sesame seeds, green tomatillo, cinnamon, cumin, black pepper, carrots, chili coban/pasta/guaque, and potato + rice. There was plenty of tender chicken inside, with the soup having a nice roasted flavor with some spice and a bit of sourness. The potatoes and rice on the bottom added more sustenance to this dish. Almost equally delicious was the Caldo Tlalpeño Rojo for a dollar more with shredded chicken, tomato, black pepper, garlic, onions, peas, chickpeas, corn, achiote, chipotle, Monterey jack cheese, and crunchy blue corn tortilla chips. By comparison, this was a bit heartier, with the melted cheese and shredded tortilla chips inside, similar to soups found in Mexican cuisine. While I also liked the mix of veggies a bit more in this one, as it added a bit more texture, I still slightly preferred the flavor of the other soup, as I usually prefer a bit more spice. The rest of the food was fine. The TPC sandwich for $19.95 with chicken, peanut butter, coconut cream, ginger, cilantro, pickled carrots, and lime was fine. For the number of ingredients, I found it a bit sweet, likely from the cream and the peanut butter mix. The bread was nice, but it also fell apart. It came with a nice side salad with a good vinaigrette. The most expensive at $24.95 were the Slow Cooked BBQ Ribs, consisting of baby back ribs with rice and beans. The ribs were almost a bit too tender as they lacked any bite, which was nice, but the sauce was a bit too generic tasting, reminding me of Sweet Baby Ray's or something similar. The rice and beans were standard. This was also OK. Next came some dessert. There was first the $12.95 Rosemary Churros served with dulce de leche & chocolate dips. While I'm not sure if it worked, the rosemary did add a unique smell and a bit of flavor, and at least it wasn't generic. The churros themselves were hot, and the sauces were standard, with my preference being the dulce de leche. I also ordered a Champurrado for $7.95, which was fine. It wasn't as thick as I expected, though perhaps the style is a bit different than the champurrados I rarely buy from Mexican street carts. The chocolate flavor was very nice, though, and I like that it wasn't too sweet. Another person got a $4 Alfajor, which I got a bite of, which was standard. This place is a bit hard to rate. The two soups were wonderful, I liked the appetizers, and I found a couple of the other dishes just OK. Overall, it was a good meal, but I'm not craving to go back. This would be the perfect 3.5, but I'll round up as that doesn't exist.

The sandwich was very well made with a nice crisp panko crusting that didnt feel heavy on the oil, and yet still managed to have a light airy egg inside. The eggs rothko was buttery and flavorful but still managed to not feel too heavy. The broiled tomatos on the side were a nice touch to contrast the egg and toast from the main dish.
